Very high power wifi cards

I was wondering if some of you played with that...

I often move around and need my doses of internet browsing. Thing is, in hotels the internet access is incredibly expensive for crappy speeds and limits.

I can use some "undetected" thetering with my iPhone, but the illimited dataplan is a bit too limited for my needs :D

We also have an awesome ADSL provider that distributed millions of boxes with totally open wi-fi draft N connexion, thing is the range is a tad limited... hence the question about high power wifi cards.

I know that these cards are often used with BackTrack for example, in order to crack wifi connections, but I do not need to do that, I'm even too lazy to start, experiment and educate myself. It's even easier, thanks to that provider mentionned earlier, I only need range.

So to sum it up, I'd like to know more about those cards.
My first searches got me around one from alfa networks and its 2000mW power, that is 20 times the authorized French limit (but who cares? :D )
