Remember the days when you first joined the forums? When the internet was sparkling and new? Remember when avatars were limited to a tiny 60x60 and sigs could only be a meager 80 pixels tall? Remember your first struggles with MSPaint/Photoshop? Remember that old picture you cropped just so you could have something to display after your post in the forum?

I am happy to announce the beginning of... Retro Sig Week! Resurrect those old sigs and avatars for a week! You can wear the same ones all week, or choose a different one each day. Post here and tell us the stories of your retro sigs and avatars. Maybe you're still using your first sig, or perhaps your first sig was so horrible that you deleted it and threw out the harddrive.


I will begin by presenting to you, my first ever real sig, made for me by fellow forum-goer thundrakkon, who took a look at the MSPaint monstrosities I was using and said, "Let me make you a nice sig." And nice it was, and still is! (Horrible MSPaint Monstrosities to come later next week).

This was my own, after the VBulletin upgrade. My original one was the same phone, but closed, and before that it was one of the old forum engine's stock avatars. Also a telephone.

Spengbob was my first and only sig. Before that I had lots of retarded text and anime quotes because I was an obnoxious weeaboo.

I thought about adding a 3rd character to the sig a couple of months back, but I couldn't find any good photos of him, so I dropped the idea.

Oh, it was that one. Avatar, that is, not sig. The one I posted was my first sig, I'm 100% sure of that. But I used the raven pic as an avatar for a short while, yes. It was actually a partial scan of a postcard I randomly bought because it had such a nice and unique atmosphere. But since it had nothing to do with anime, I changed it to something that did have.

Good memory you have there, Xan, despite having that abominably ugly sig.

I think what helped me out best, was I was pretty much a signature factory; I would keep spamming the same pile of crap until it looked semi decent, over and over again and getting them critiqued.

ROFL... the Drakeron Lucifus.... I remember those.... Though I'm pretty sure you had some more that were earlier than those. I know for awhile you were on a kick of doing like... diagonal cut offs to make the corners transparent (like Kit's sig is right now). Not exactly sure what you call that. My first sig is lost because of a broken HDD way back but it was a FF7 sig based on this image (http://www.ff-fan.com/ac/walls/5.jpg).

My two others KitKat made me. First one she made me in MS Paint. It was right before she started to learn PS. It might not be the flashiest but it's made with love and affection and is awesome in its own right ;)

Reason i don't have any sig or avatar anymore is because i got these way back before we got vBulletin. When we had Fuse Talk. Or it might actually have been when we had phpBB (think the FF one was on phpBB and Kitkat's was on Fuse). Then when we switched boards it got reseted. And i was just to lazy to get a new one.

Always been too lazy to work on a sig image. Hell, until very recently, I never even had text in my sig. So, just popping my head up to request Board of Command's original, highly obnoxious signature. Fine art at its worst, gotta love it.

Part of the fun of Retro Sig Week is wearing your old wardrobe, in a sense 'becoming' again who people recognized you as in your early days on the forum (like the forum version of going to a 70's themed dress-up party), but you certainly don't have to if you don't want to.

Apparently I made it in MS Paint. I don't remember how long I used it before I either got rid of it, or replaced it with my current Retro sig. Can't believe I overlooked it though when I posted my current claiming it was the first sig I used. /facepalm
