Awesome show. 2-3 is definitely my favorite character this season. I have always had an affinity for Denpa characters, and she is like the epitome of that. If you add in the perfect voice casting and long haired character design, there really is no contest.

Araragi-kun's voice seems to fit such hyper male characters really well. Recruit really reminds me of Nozomu.

This show is crazy, stylistic, and funny. The characters are interesting and enjoyable. I'm in lovee!

I shouldn't have watched that just before leaving for work.

I'll pass on that one, fast paced crazy zetsubo-like show put way too much strain on my brain :D

Nice first episode. But it could get boring fast. Will watch some more episodes.

Quite a twisted and unlikely setting but it could work if they manage to keep the jokes fresh. Still, I'm a little worried this will be like Seitokai no Ichizon and we will never see anything but the bridge plus the underside and a very finite collection of characters.

At least it wasn't hopelessly shafted after the zooms at the very beginning.

I really liked the first episode. It does resemble Seitokai in many ways.

Was a very interesting first episode. Are all the episodes going to be 9 mini episodes? Seems like an original way to present a series.

Okay, well... I haven't seen another series cut into mini episodes. I've seen some cut into two half episodes, but nothing more than that.

Though with this, it isn't necessarily different episodes, more like different chapters of an episode, I guess.

Sorry, that came out sort of mean...

Shaft, the animation studio, always pulls off stunts like this in their shows.

I wiki'd Shaft and saw they did Bakemonogatari, Maria+Holic, and both Ef series, so I see what you mean now about them pulling original stuff off in their series.

Kappa Kick!!

This episode had me laughing just as much as the first one. Gotta love the "Sister". And everyone's glares of death when Ric announced he was Nino's lover.

I was confused about one thing though. When Nino was washing his hair, and he started talking about the smell and how he was crying and stuff, was he meaning it the way he was saying it? Or was he confused because he enjoyed it, and had never felt that feeling before (except for one time where he had to "pay back") and he didn't know how to express it?

shinta|hikari
Mon, 04-12-2010, 10:38 PM
Of course he didn't mean what he was saying about his scalp dying. I think it is mostly the second one you mentioned.

The "sister" gag was a bit cliche. The church idea itself was quite funny. I just don't find the character contrast joke too amusing anymore, especially with the over the top gun shooting.

I loved the bath scene conversations, as well as Ric's internal monologue about 2-3's common sense.

It was just hard for me to tell since he was so openly criticizing everything else about living there and what she and the other "civilians" would do.

Also, my mind is drawing a blank... how is the "sister" gag cliche? I can't think of another anime at the moment that used it, so I thought it was pretty funny. I will admit the gun shooting was a bit over the top though.

The "sister" itself was not the cliche, but the character contrast gag of having a really macho character wear a female outfit to achieve cheap laughs.

Off the top of my head, it was done in School Rumble, Kamen no Maid Guy, and Seto no Hanayome.

I too liked those scenes, particularly Ric's monologue about yesterday's warmth washing away when he repaid his father. It's a touch sad.

Okay, that makes sense then. Of course, I didn't really find it amusing/not amusing that he was in a female outfit... I just thought it was funny he was this huge muscular man shooting guns at people and "preaching" to them.

I thought about that too, but avatars don't always have to match if they are able to stand on their own

Wed, 04-14-2010, 08:21 PM
True enough. I will make it a contrasting pair then, with pink for the avatar and the light blue in the sig. I plan to make another set though, then maybe alternate between the two every few days.

Personally, the only thing I don't like about that OP image is her eyes. But I agree that it would make a nice ava. As far as making a new set and alternating... can't you just do what Zell does (and what Archie did) with that alternating sig thingy? I guess that won't really work for avas though...

By the way, was it just me, or did she not show her Ahoge in episode 2?

No discussion about episode 3 yet?
Though, I guess nothing was that surprising this episode. Star-guy being envious/paranoid about Ric and Nino's relationship was typical, as was the way he handled it. Same thing for the way Ric went about trying to take Nino out on a date. He's been living there for how long now? And he still can't seem to grasp that no one down there cares for his rich and luxurious ways, most especially Nino. So his exaggerated dress, arrival, and date idea wasn't nearly as funny, it was mostly annoying. However, the saving grace, was seeing Nino in a dress. That was something I wasn't expecting at all... I was actually on the same page as Ric about maybe she didn't know how to put it on right or something. But she was beautiful.

Nino in a swimsuit was win, even if it was a school swimsuit.

There isn't really much to discuss about this series anymore... doesn't seem like there will be any deep meaning, so all we can hope for is some character development. Whether or not Ric is able to accept his living situation, etc.

More Nino scenes are a must as well.

.

Nino in a swimsuit was win because it was a school swimsuit.

It's way too hot here for thermal underwear. They must either be making a joke, or Japan's a lot cooler than it looks.

I liked the Doraemon reference.

@Buff - Dammit, I was about to say the same thing about the swimsuit.

Japan is a lot cooler than it looks, unless it is summer. I was freezing during fall, winter and spring when I lived there, but that may be because it is freaking hot in my country.

This summer, it hit 37 degrees Celsius where I live, and 39.3 in the hottest areas. The record is 42.2 degrees, and that is not a desert, but a city.

That sound like Houston. Record heat last year was like 110 F (which is 43 C) due to a combination of heat and humidity.

I don't know how i feel about this show. It's funny so far, but i was expecting it to be more serious and less random.

"What is common sense?"

- here marks the point of no return.

Perhaps, but initially only in the sense of accepting these under the bridge people's life style. We haven't yet even had any indication Ric would have hated his own life, no matter how tormented he was by his weakness. I'd say he has been even more tormented under the bridge, anyway. So, questioning the superiority of his own common sense doesn't yet break him. In fact, it might allow him to be more succesful in international trade, because even many everyday things vary from country to country.
