This was so ridiculously fun. Im definitely watching it. So far I like the 3 girls that have appeared.
I'll reserver judgement on the 4th girl, but so far I don't like her design.

I was getting bad vibes in the beginning when the dude looked somewhat gray and weak but that notion was quickly turned false. Although it's still strange how he seemed like such a magic noob if he's already that old and it's difficult to transfer to that academy. If it's difficult, shouldn't he know his own powers very well already? Seems like a plot hole.
In any case I liked the ep more and more towards the end. Lots of accidental humour and I didn't mind the Ikkitousen inspired battle end results either... I'll keep watching.

It kind of reminds me of Kampfer with the clothing destruction of Ikkitousen. Ecchiness mixed with magic and sword use in a school setting. There doesn't seem to be a gun user, though. Not yet, at least.
Out of the four new shows that I've watched so far (Ikkitousen XX, B Gata, & Maid-Sama! being the other 3), this one is my favorite.

When I saw the image of Sai on the picture in the opening post, I was thinking that Daisuke Ono would've been perfect (Hosaka from Minami-ke, Kakeru in 11eyes, Kazuma from Kaze no Stigma, etc.)
1st episode has so much random shit going on. It wasn't bad, but I'll reserve my judgment for the next episode I guess.

A tad messy, but there's room for entertainment and ecchi.
So the guy was born 25th of december 3010 and is 15. So we're in 3025 and the previous Demon King war started 1 thousand years ago.
I hope episode 2 will get us somewhere interesting, I could watch this if it does

I found this a bit too generic for my tastes. I'll give it another episode or two, but it did not really impress me. The censorship in the Ryuumaru releases was very distracting too. Not the hilarious stamp, the huge cuts of black and even the very poorly done shade/blur/crop when the blue-haired girl was in her room.
The blue-haired girl was a bit too screechy as well. If she stays like that, she will get on my nerves quickly.
The gags were pretty good though.

What I have decided to do is that we’ll do MX’s version when it’s out, IF there is any censorship in it, I will label it as v0 and release an AT-X version later when it’s out. Otherwise, we’ll stick with MX’s version if there isn’t any censorship. That way, I won’t have a load of work on me.
The reason that the Tokyo MX version wasn't released this time is because...
Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou is delayed since I have no fucking clue where did aznskman put the translated script. So until he get back there’s no daimaou.
and then
Had to encode it 4 times since I did WRONG crf every time.
I hope that answers it for you.

This is starting to be one of my favorites this season. I like the humour, the characters are interesting and the fanservice is nice. Especially the characters. There's something wrong with all of them, and that's and exquisite feature for a show. Even the android is wicked. One of the better parts is how everybody already treats Akuto like the future demon king and how the end results of his behavior unwittingly turn out to fit the profile.

I was glad things turned out the way they did near the end of the episode (with the students turning on Hattori), because the whole "You are the Demon King" ignorance she was spouting was getting annoying. It was comforting to see her experience the effect that ignorance has, even if it was only for a second. I hope that the series can now move past this and focus on more interesting events, like the practitioners or Black Magic. I don't expect the school to accept Sai, but I hope that Hattori will abandon her ignorance at least, and contribute more to his harem.
Sai really does exhibit the aura of a Demon King when he gets pissed off as much as he did. Emotionlessly torturing the students that jumped him... and then (as far as I could tell) planning on killing their leader. And it seemed he was gaining pinpoint control over mana. He could be a terribly fearsome entity to engage with if he's pushed over the limit much more than that. I wonder if he could have taken the entire mob.
Finally... implied masturbation... more striped and teddy-bear pantsu... and culminating in super rape... This episode was definitely a great one.

Echoing Alhuin I also loved that Hattori got pitched face first onto the other side of other peoples unreasonable assumptions felt like. The shadow of badass that overtook Sai was a welcome surprise but I don't quite understand if that was his real personality which he consciously holds back or if something 'took him over' in response to the threat and he was running off of that demon spawn power he just HAS to have hidden away and didn't consciously know what he was doing.

I really liked this episode. The whole show is turning out to be splendid far beyond my expectations (that might not have been too high, though). The gallery of weird characters continues to amuse me, especially the android despite the simplicity of what she's doing. Even the good for nothing aniki worshipping dude is very appropriate and never lets Sai forget he's destined to be the commander of fell legions.
Sai's personality change did come somewhat out nowhere for sure. Since it was stated the predictions are 100% correct, there has to be something about Sai in addition to the immense powers that would justify the prediction. It seems he does have an underlying personality that when not kept in check is quite ruthless. The scene was a pleasure to watch, of course, because it did solidify his position. Now all that remains is the persecution by the society to actually drive him to become the villain they fear he will come.
Though this show is probably too comedic to actually dwell too deeply in such matters. And I don't mind. It's just as interesting to see Hattori taste her own medicine and be forced to abandon her idealism.

I second the idea of whether or not Sai's true personality is the one we see on a day to day basis, or if it's what is displayed when he is torturing those students. We don't know much of Sai's past, so it could be entirely possible that his aloofness and enduring attitude is just a front, while he tries to stem his violent and emotionless personality.
shinta|hikari
Thu, 04-22-2010, 07:48 PM
He himself said that he was surprised to see that aspect of his personality. This can happen to anyone when they are placed in an unfamiliar situation. He was faced with certain conditions, and he was surprised at his reaction, much like a person who suddenly saves or abandons someone in danger contrary to their own self expectations. I don't think he is hiding anything, at least consciously.
His actions during that scene don't make him evil. It makes him practical. Unfortunately, most characters interpret practical as "wrong" in these shows.
Yukimura
Fri, 04-23-2010, 12:13 AM
Practicality and wrongness are not mutually exclusive. Just ask any German labor camp survivor. The fact that torture is practical in some situations doesn't change the notion that the act of willfully engaging in torture is 'wrong' in and of itself regardless of the circumstances. I think everything Dark Sai did was with a ruthless practicality towards safeguarding his life in the long term but he lost any claim to righteousness when he started torturing people he had already incapacitated as form of extra intimidation against future attacks.
As badass as it was I think Hattori was justified in her initial anger at Sai upon seeing him inflicting harm on a bound and defenseless student. Regardless of what the guy had been doing before she got there once he was tied up he wasn't a threat to anyone and Sai tearing up his leg was simply torture for Sai's own benefit. Of course she then jumped to overly dramatic conclusions which may have served to dampen the impact of what Sai had just done by quickly putting him back into the role of hapless victim.
I suspect we'll see more of the dark side of his personality as the show progresses and with luck he'll develop into a full blown antihero badass and maybe even show enough balls to either (figuratively) bang or (literally) bitch slap one of his haremettes.
shinta|hikari

I only meant that practicality and evil are not mutually inclusive. I understand your point. You are just a better person than I am.

Fri, 04-23-2010, 01:26 AM
While his actions clearly went beyond righteous defending of his own and the worshipping dude's health, there's one detail to remember when judging the righteousness of his deed: He already had an obligation to punish wrongdoers as a disciplinary team member. So, rather than saying what he did was right or wrong, it's more relevant to ponder if it was too severe a punishment. The easy answer naturally is yes, but since it is a magic school, who knows. Some magic nurse probably can heal broken bones in five minutes.
David75
Fri, 04-23-2010, 02:56 AM
Everything has been said I guess.
When placed in a potentially lifre threatning situation, I guess any social or character limit might break and a more instinctive nature will surface.
You could bet the guy was never placed in a situation like this before, so it's natural he is surprised by his reaction.
And since he's so powerful, the result is indeed violent and off limits.
Off course, Kraco pointed in the right direction: they will probably heal easily since we are in 3025 and in a both technically and magic advanced world.
Still, suffering/fear/psychological strain will remain, unless they can also do something about it.
My surprise is more in the fact he got control pretty quickly on his powers, he had a huge burst of energy last ep, and now he can full control it for attack and even defense with a neatly formed shield.
But he his to be the next Daimaou, so I guess it's only natural

It would be cool if their world didn't have the sort of morality about inflicting physical harm on people as a deterrent to misbehavior that ours tends to. Maybe in their world torture is okay from a 'rules' stand point as long as you have the proper authority from some official body. If that's the case then Hattori, with her more idealized code of ethics, will probably be opposed to the establishment on principle at some point which may be a catalyst for more strife between her and Sai. If that happens I look forward to seeing Dark Sai wipe the floor with her.

I agree that it's cliche, but it's probably not as badly executed as you think. There's a lot of typical harem stuff that it does right. For once, the main char is badass from the beginning and it doesn't really takes itself that seriously. I don't particularly hate any character yet either, not even the annoying sidekick since he doesn't get too much screen time. Overall, it's pretty mindless and enjoyable.

This is a very strange mix of scenes that look very serious but then suddenly end with a badass looking dragon called Peterhausen. I also like the fanservice. It seems somehow natural and not at all forced, despite occasional ikkitousen esque scenes. Hattori being all happy that Sai "chose" her was also a good sign.

Pretty entertaining episode. I loved how Hattori went all dere dere after she was chosen, even though I prefer Teruya and her straightforward advances. I was expecting Etou-senpai to be the final boss of this series, but even she pledged loyalty to the demon king. So I guess Teruya will be the final boss now.
With that throne scene, his harem is pretty much complete.
Kraco
Mon, 05-03-2010, 04:17 PM
Surely the final boss should be the dude who killed Etou's brother. That guy was clearly evil and it looks like he had connections to various factions, the government included, no doubt. He wanted to retrieve Demon King's legacy, so he must have desires to be what Sai doesn't want to be (but is steadily sliding toward).
It's hard to say where Teruya is exactly standing right now, but Etou simply had a major complex about her brother's failure and wanted to become so strong she would never fail. However, now that she knows he didn't fail at all (aside from dying), she's free of such a burden and can freely act like any sensible girl would: Try to become Demon King's chosen woman.

It was shown in the beginning of either 2 or 3, but Keina had met Sai long before their time in this magic academy... it's safe to say there is much more at work between them than anything Hattori could accomplish. In episode 5 alone, it was Keina that brought Etou underground, which ultimately led to the awakening of the dragon and Sai's domination over it. She was also the one to spark the emission of the dragon's memories, with the bird-pendant Sai gave her when they were young.
She is definitely more interesting than Hattori, and I hope everything is explained soon. I actually hope she claims a better spot next to Sai than Hattori.
EDIT: Archie hacked me and delayed my post!

I haven't found Keina more interesting than Hattori. This episode was the first where Keina actually did anything more than just fly around naked (and invisible). Perhaps if she from now on develops a personality and does actively stuff she will prove more interesting. Otherwise, I'll be happier seeing Hattori in her ambiguous position of both opposing and liking the Demon King.
Also, Alhuin, Keina would have slept through the night dreaming of eating rice if Hattori hadn't woken her up first. That's about how active she has been. She would need to change herself majorly if she wants a spot next to Sai, not next to a rice bowl.
Alhuin
Wed, 05-05-2010, 11:14 AM
Flying around naked and/or invisible is fine with me!
Anyways, I think it was Archie that brought it up before? But what can we gather from Keina... is she really as clumsy and ditsy as she appears to be, or do you think there is method to her madness? It's true she may have slept through the night in this episode, but once she was awake, she instigated the means of things ending the way they did. Not to mention she is/was able to sneak into Etou's secret room with ease, and knew about her brother's mystery, and she was the one that plastered the maps everywhere which eventually led to Sai being the one to investigate. I think that's being a little more than active.
I think she will end up being the typical, airheaded, clumsy supporting character that becomes this badass, serious, powerful ally all of a sudden when things get too rough, and then once it's over she will return to her original state of mind.
I will agree though that Hattori's position of opposing and liking Sai as the Demon King will make for interesting development.

Korone really turned on gear second in this episode and attacked Sai relentlessly like a machine. But then again, she is a machine... Hattori, on the other hand, was all cute and shy. She's now even more "normal" in Sai's company than in the first ep before she had found out he's the Demon King.
Keina is, of course, appearing as immature as ever but it's hard to say what's really going on there. Although Sai attempted to kiss her, I wonder if it wasn't because she's the only one treating him completely normally, as if he wasn't a Demon King in the first place but only a childhood friend. That should be the reason why he's so comfortable in her company. So, I wouldn't yet bet Zell's left hand on Sai feeling anything especially romantic toward her.
Peterhausen fits right in with the rest of the characters. He seems like a pretty lazy dragon.
David75

Keina is as confortable with Sai as she is with Peterhausen. She seems not to care about appearances, background or title.
Or she is so powerful that she fears not.
After the sea Cucumber scene, I was just having this train of ideas:
"Imagine I want to tell my familly or/and friends about the marvels of japanime and I choose that Ushiro episode before I checked it fully.
As you know, it's always at the worst possible moment distracting things happen, so there's a 99% probability you're out of the room during the sea cucumber scene.
And when you come back, the room is in chaos, older women wanting to kill you, older men with a smirk and children laughing out loud and teens unable to hide their lust"

I doubt I'd use Daimaou to introduce anybody to anime, though. Whilst there would be no problems showing the episode to healthy dudes of a reasonable age range, I feel a show like this would be quite a hit or miss case and better suited for people who already know what they want.

You guys know I have a certain weakness towards Redheads, so Keina is my favorite girl, followed by Korone and Hattori. Don't care about Etou and the president girl (whose name I still don't memorize) hasn't made me like her yet.
Still, I can't help to notice Keina isn't a central character on the intro... where Junko seems to be the central one, thus making it weird she gets the spotlight on the ending. Though, like Archie said, she seems to have a story with Akuto, so she definitely is winning on the race.

Ryuumaru does not have a translator for Daimaou currently, so I went ahead and watched this.
Good day my dear leechers. As you probably know that our only TL had some private matters to deal with and he isn’t around atm.
Luckily, aznskman will be able to do Ikkitousen and Mayoi Neko somehow. And kissxsis is being TL’ed by another translator so that’s no issue at all. Now the question is, what will happen to daimaou? Do not worry! I am trying my best to bribe some TL to do that. I wasn’t around from 3 days because of some RL matters. And I’m doing 4 jobs these days to pay for my examination fees by the end of this month, so not much time on my hands (and DO NOT ask me about donations, thanks).
And one more thing, I cannot guarantee speed for like, another 3 weeks since my exams are starting and I have to study. So bare with us for some time please. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yeah, its watchable. It's CrunchyRoll subs on a AT-X raw.

Downloading then. Based on its quality I may end up re-downloading all episodes if Ryuumaru doesn't return. Thanks.
EDIT:
Yep. Its watchable indeed. Though I wouldn't archive this version.

I keep thinking there is no way this show can get any more ridiculous, but it keeps blowing me away. This episode was just amazing.

Indeed. It's hard to ever write anything here because the coherence of the plot (okay, there never was coherence to begin with but anyway) is taking the back seat while all the weird and perverted things claim the front one. Still, this series excels at what it does (whatever that might be) so I'm greatly entertained by it.
I wonder if Sycophant's onii-chan worshipping loli sister is ever going to be won over by Sai. I don't mean to become a part of his harem - I think that's already finished judging by the ED but simply to start to support him like her bro does. No doubt Sycophant did it for highly varied reasons like to prove his own destiny wrong but somehow I think he considers Sai a real friend by now.
Of the harem girls Korone really stole this episode, although I liked Hattori's reaction to the marriage suggestion as well. But the way how Korone is continuously effortlessly misleading Sai is hilarious. The dude might a Demon King with appropriate powers and muscles - and momentarily even attitude - but he's quite easily trampled by girls...

Lol, what the hell did i just watch?
The animation kept shifting in styles and quality, for a moment there i thought it was being animated by Gainax or something
The story... what the hell am i supposed to discuss? Shit was happening everywhere and most of it didn't make a lick of sense! Where did the perv come from, why was it suddenly nighttime, how the hell did what's his face last so long underwater, etc.
I mean it's still awesome... but SOME coherence wouldn't kill them

Oh and I totally hoped that the sea-cucumber monster was just going to jizz all over town.

It wasn't just in the last episode. He looked normal in this episode, even in the scenes between the parts where he is buff.

He's the Demon King. A hero needs to work hard to become strong but when was the last time you saw the main villain do that? They are muscle laden from the beginning and kick everybody's ass until the very last scene where they fall. So, Sai is buffed up when he needs to be.

The animation kept shifting in styles and quality, for a moment there i thought it was being animated by Gainax or somethingI said it on IRC, but I guess you never saw Fist of the North Star. Most of the animation involving Akuto and the pervert was either an homage to it or parody of it.
He even matched some of the poses.

It certainly felt like two to three eps of material compressed into one episode. I have to confess I'm not really sure what the heck the sword dude was talking about after Sai appeared. Sai's method of travelling certainly came out of nowhere. First he was desperately telling Korone to transport him and when that failed he simply used a never seen before portal technique as casually as if he had been using it all along.
There were some good parts as well. I liked the first half of the episode just fine, until the bedroom scene with Junko. There was something off with that as well, like something sacrified to the hurried plot development, but I guess it can't be helped. With only three eps left and the main plot apparently only now really launching, they can't dwell too long on a maiden's wounded heart.
Still, Sai and Junko would be my favorite pair. I just can't bring myself to like Keina at all. And Korone is a robot.

The last episodes of this show were legendarily rushed, there's no denying that. This final episode, once again, had scene that made me feel like whole episodes were skipped. The blond guy with the big sword, whatever was his name, would have sorely required a major backstory, as well as Keena, whose whatever connection to the other time traveller (or something) was left unbelievably flimsy.
If Akuto and Peterhausen didn't kick so much ass this series would have been a grand disaster. Junko still remained my favorite of the harem girls. Keena got a bit more development, but it was such train wreck development with these episodes that only a transportation safety board's chairman would like her more because of it.

Despite being rushed in terms of the plot, it was probably one of the best rush job I've seen. Sure, it was abrupt, completely came out of nowhere, but it was very successful.
Pretty much every character got to shine. Etou finally got her moment proving very effective that one episode, and her being very disappointed that he was no longer recognized as the demon lord was perfect. Hattori got to make her confession and be all badass and deredere at the same time. The student president got her moment. Keena I was never really fond of, but she got some much needed development to resolve the mysteries around her.
So the ending was effective, if a little too fast at times to make any sense.

I just watched this series, started last night. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it overall, much better than I expected. It's not going to win any prizes, but I'm having a tough time thinking of having a dull moment throughout. Even if there seems there's much story to tell (looks like half was adapted), I think it stopped in a good spot for my tastes. So in that regard, a satisfactory show to watch for me.
Haven't watched the Specials, which I assume are just a bunch of ecchi fanservice shorts (like those from Grisaia).
