Manga: Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru

Here's a manga I've been reading recently just for a bit of entertaiment. It can be quite funny at times, chapter 3 really had me laughing, and it has quite a bit of very violent action. Nothing great, but looks good enough to pass the time.

The plot could use some work, but it's improving bit by bit.

Just noticed that the series is at the moment at volume 38. Four volumes have been released so far.

Kohinata Minoru is a college student at a college that is popular for its sports rather than academic orientation. Although he starts out as a gymnast alongside his friend, Nana, Minoru is bullied by the higher ranked gymnasts. One evening, a karate student at the college, Mutou Ryuuji, witnesses Minoru being bullied and comes to the rescue... but his intentions aren't to save Minoru, but to drag him into the world of karate. Minoru makes new friends and learns some of their dark pasts, including a shocking death that reveals motives for revenge.

I just began reading it

It's not anything i haven't seen before but it's entertaining enough to keep me interested with some good humor and great fighting scenes.

Recently i've been a little annoyed by how they're focusing on the side characters while ignoring the protagonist but with the tournament coming up that should soon change

The chapter where they tested for their belts and the other idiot was shitting himself was pure comedy gold. I mistyped the chapter number in the post above, so I don't remember the correct number, but that has to be my favorite chapter.

Well I suggest you read all that's out of volume 5... particularly the last couple of chapters.

It was good to see Karate Kid powering up but having the loser stop being a loser is gonna suck ( yeah I've got to start memorizing these guys names... )

Yeah, I like those too. The volume didn't have much on it, but it had it's funny moments, and I like the blonde high school chick, I wonder if she'll become more prominent in the future. My favorite was when Mutou was fighting the old guy.

Anyways, some funny moments in there, and the last page was hilarious. I very much doubt the kid is there though.

Also, I have no idea what the names of the characters are either.

I wouldn't count on it, she seems to be developing some mild romantic interest in the dunce and we all know that the loser never gets the girl

Sounds about right, but I can see her going to attend the University where all these guys are at, so maybe she'll make a comeback at some point. But I agree with all your other points in the scenario.

Same, but I'm still a bit interested in seeing the American dude fight, particularly after claims that he used to be some sort of "beast" and delinquent, so I want to see if he degenerates to that mental level during a fight.

Surprisegaybuttsecks though is one of the funniest things about this manga, so it's not entirely unwelcomed.

Anyways, I don't like this love interest, I always hate characters like that. Probably why I'm one of the few that hate Hinata from Naruto.

I just caught up and still really enjoying the manga. Admittedly, it hasn't been as funny as previously, but some good fights and more plot has been introduced lately.

It's been more battle oriented lately, and i can't say that's a bad thing.

I also enjoyed how they set up Ryu for a rival part only to have him lose before even reaching Minoru, felt fresh and unexpected to me.

Certainly, I love how they have treated all the rivalries to this point, they keep switching it up. For some reason I'm missing a bit of Pedro, being underused. Though loved the part when he was sniffing through Ryu's used clothes. Also nice to see Minoru coming to his own, and not be the wimp of early on.

Up to 141 now, and we're finally seeing Mutou in a real fight. Too bad about mushroom powered Minami.

It looks like the next arc will be a comedic one, but the time skip really has me eager to the future tournaments. Minoru seems to have improved his punching power.

SO i learned something weird about this manga today, apparently it's already completed over in Japan and it spans a total of 500 chapters!

It also seems the art goes through some intense changes, as would be expected from such a long running manga.
