AIC A.S.T.A. did Bamboo Blade, and the director is the same too. That alone would make this a definite watch, but Saori Hayami Saori (Eden of the East, Sekirei) plays Ikaros, so there is no choice in the matter. I must watch.

Crunchyroll is terrible. They are one step removed from a parasitic pay-site. It's already coated with ads, and you pay a lower quality product. Most of the series they grab will never be licensed, so there won't ever be a legal alternative to their low quality.

Yeah, me too. I enjoyed the part where he had Ikaros turn him invisible and then proceeded to grope Sohara. The ability to stop time was quite nice as well.

Decent first episode, looking forward to seeing the rest.

Im willing to sacrifice this series if no one else takes it. Crunchy Roll rips are crap. If One Piece had the same treatment with Funimation I would be enraged. Thank god for yibis.

even if there aren't many paid subscribers (which i'd bet there are a pretty good amount of, just for Naruto alone. rates are like $6 a month or $60 for a year), they still must make a killing in ad revenue. they've got ads all over the page, plus they've got the 10 second videos you've gotta watch before the actual anime ep.

they've really gotta be making some nice profit, cause it seems like they pick up more and more shows each season.

This episode was dumb. I liked it, but it may have harmed my intelligence in one way or another.

While the series is definitely funny, the OP and the promo led me to believe the series was a little more serious. I almost feel more ashamed that I'm following this than the fact I keep watching Queen's Blade...almost.

Ikaros reminds me of Chi from Chobits. and not just because of the ear things. It was the way she was mimicking in this episode to learn things... though the overall show does not remind me of Chobits, at all.
There is certainly room for comparison with Chobits. Serious elements are starting to creep into the series, and it seems to be shifting from stupid (but enjoyable) humor to a deeper plot. Chobits got very serious in the latter half, so I wonder if this will take a similar direction.

If the disturbance that leads to the New World is centered on the city, and Ikaros can't see it, and it doesn't appear in the night sky any more, I wonder if the disturbance is Ikaros.

I don't really get why she likes the watermelon so much, but it is a nice quirk that she can grow into a personality.

Episode was so bloody idiotic I couldn't stop laughing through all the episode. Brilliant.

Episode 3 wasn't as funny, but it was quite enjoyable. Ikaros looked very cute on her new clothes.

Its hard to take the series seriously when they accept Ikaros existance just like that. But the op may point towards something else.

I like the fact that every episode gets a different ending song and that it goes with the flow of the episode.

This episode was hilarious. It is by far the best episode of the series up to this point. Tomo had panties everywhere. Inside, outside, and even in the toilet.

Tomoki's perversion is probably not the best thing in the world but Sohara's 'holier than thou' attitude irks me and I was overjoyed to see she had panties detonate while on her person not once but twice.

I suppose blowing someone up multiple times and destroying their house is appropriate payback for not being able to wear panties for a day is pretty typical anime girl justice though.

Yuki... those were her panties. Sure bombs were a bit overkill but I remind you this is anime, and not one to be taken particularly seriously.

I guess I'll defend her because I'm actually rather fond of her character after this episode.

She asked Ikaros for the card, and Ikaros agreed to help her. I don't really think it is a strictly "holier than thou" attitude either, Sohara actually really likes Tomoki. He messes around with her, she usually hits him back. This time, instead of just beating the hell out of him, she playfully decided to mess with him. She had already beaten the crap out of him yesterday, so, figuring he would keep all of them, she decided to play it his way instead.

Of course she underestimated how much of a pervert he was, and her whole plan correspondingly backfired on her. They generally act the way one would expect childhood friends well past puberty act (in the anime way of course).

Every other character basically can tell that Tomoki and Sohara like each other. Mikako and Sugata both orchestrate plans to push the two together and into progressively more absurd situations, almost entirely at Sohara's expense.

Sohara just gives as well as she takes, she isn't some passive abused plaything like Haruhi's Mikuru.

He incarnates everything a worthless main character represents and is apparently only getting the girl because there simply wasn't anyone else for her to fall for. That said the fact that he's open about his worthlessness makes it a bit easier to like him

I know Sohara likes Tomoki and I think that's where her holier than thou attitude comes from. Her actions didn't strike me so much as vengeance but as education/behavior modification. I think her end game is to change Tomoki's personality to be more suited to her tastes (i.e. not a panty chasing perv) because she already likes him but he's not socially acceptable enough for her to feel comfortable with that fact. I won't touch on whether her idea of how he should behave is 'better' or 'worse' than Tomoki's because my issue is simply that it's Tomoki's business how Tomoki lives his life not Sohara's.

What irks me about characters like Sohara is the sense she give off that they are justified in whatever actions they take to try and modify the behavior of others because they want the other person to be different. In my view Sohara trying to force Tomoki to not be a perv (in general as opposed to forcing pervy things on her in particular) is no better than Tomoki trying to force Sohara to wear a particular type of underwear (which IIRC was an accident not a willful and intentional subversion of her rights). The real world consequences of Tomoki's perversions are a separate issue and I certainly don't condone the facilitation of his perversion by any unwilling participants. I would stand behind Sohara if I actually believed she just wanted retribution for being wronged instead of wanting to fundamentally alter Tomoki's personality to reduce her own guilt for liking such a lame guy. I don't recognize Sohara as having any right to try and beat (or bomb) the perverted thoughts out of Tomoki's head as she has no authority over his thoughts and only authority over his actions insofar as they affect her directly.

I got a hold of Horrible's instead.

I actually thought this was primarily serious episode, despite doing a lot of the cliché beach activities and gags.

They're starting to expand on the Sohara x Tomoki love angle, and she's beating him out of jealously now, though I felt a little ache when she was watching Tomoki leading Ikaros by the hand from the lodge. You have to feel a little bad for her, she's had it rough the past few episodes, and she clearly really likes Tomoki. I liked her swimsuit the best for sure. A well fitting one-piece will beat a bikini every time. So much more is left to the imagination.

As for Nymph, I don't really care for her. Her attitude is really off-putting, and she's basically full of herself and a totally ungrateful, double-standard bitch. Way worse than Sohara, no matter what you think of her. It did seem like she was pleased when Ikaros started to go into Kill Mode, so maybe her goal is something like get Ikaros to kill all humans. If that were the case, she'd be a bit more interesting. If she's such a superior version of Angelroid, why might she be so impressed with Ikaros' power? Perhaps she is drastically inferior in that aspect.

I'm struggling to recall a character I've found so repellent, even if Nymph is a tsundere or something. Even the obviously retarded banana girl (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=character&charid=5398) from Kage Kara Mamoru (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4112) had some redeeming factors. I've complained about a number of other characters in other series this season, but I take them all back. Nymph is by far the worst this season, as well as in my memory.

This will be the last time I mention it. She's not even worth complaining about again. The only saving grace is she told us what the deal with Ikaros is.

The serious bits aside, Sohara has it pretty rough, even if Tomoki openly admitted (at this point) that he has no feelings for Ikaros. This was mostly a collection of gags and then mental abuse for Sohara.

Strong words against Nymph. I don't dislike her quite as much as I dislike Sohara but I can certainly see where Ryllharu's coming from, she's a grotsky little biotch for sure.

I did manage to have a little sympathy for Sohara for once though. At first I thought she just wanted to 'correct' Tomo to make him more appropritate for her feelings but this episode made it seem like she has a general big sister complex. I'm guessing she gets off on being the 'mature' one and having others dependent on her somehow. I can't really fault her for that mentality as she may simply want to feel needed or important. I can empathize with her being marginalized by the Angelroids as well as Tomo's indifference to her, but I'd rather she just recognized that he wasn't into her and moved on.

Nymph's comments about Ikaros were quite interesting though, apparently she 'ruled over the Synapse' at some point in the past. My snap theory is that she wasn't a literal leader but the head enforcer/strongest loyal angelroid to whoever was in charge. Perhaps Nymph is working for someone who wants to or has upset the power balance wherever Angelroids come from and is there to make sure Ikaros stays out of their way.

Short notes:

- Mikako is sexy.
- Sohara is perverted too, she just doesn't want to admit it. And has strange tastes in what a trip is like (1880s?).
- Mikako and Sugata's gun-kata was funny.
- Ikaros + Chaingun = excessive quantities of win

Fun stuff aside, lots of interesting stuff here. It wasn't clear whether or not Ikaros was used as a slayer before or after she shook Synapse to its core, but at one point she was all powerful, and then became a slave to a man/angel who hates humans, same as Nymph does. Then they locked her down completely, and she escaped to the lower world. What is clear is that even with everything she knows now, Ikaros is much happier here. She gets to live a peaceful life of not killing anyone, Tomoki might be perverted, but he cares for her and thinks of her as a girl, rather than using her like an empty doll for petty whims (well, he did, but he got over that in the first episode).

It's important to note that Ikaros really must have changed from when she was a Queen of Terror, because though she threatened to kill Nymph if she wouldn't leave peacefully, and would kill herself in the process rather than let anyone in the town come to harm. Even then, she didn't want to hurt Nymph.

As for Nymph, she certainly shares her Master's hate for humankind, looking down on them like bugs like some revolting angelic nobility. No surprise that getting covered in dirt is what she hates the most.

Did they ever stop spelling "Ikaros" as "Icarus" after her name appeared written in English at least twice? That was a really bad translation error, especially given that the manga has been out since 2007, and the spelling of the names fairly established.

To answer Arch's question, is Horrible worth archiving? Not really, but neither is a group that won't even get the names right.

It's just that if even after two separate scenes where her name is spelled out in both unnecessarily complicated kanji as well as quite plainly in roman letters, and the group still doesn't change it, then what else might be inaccurate?

MX Media's occasional cheesy localization American phrases (that definitely don't fit) are kind of funny too. Like the charm of watching older ADV and Manga Entertainment dvds.

if you want people to take your releases seriously then you've got to mind your ps and qs. It's just when Neko-mimi is CR rips with "corrected" subs, and their subs are in fact wrong and misleading, then what else are they "correcting"? you're better off with the official release at that point :\

but don't get me wrong, if any actual fansub group released this show, I would wait for them over horriblesubs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the difference is between the latin or greek form of the same name, isn't it?

It would only affect background info, some cultural values or possibly future developements if that should matter in that show.

Same deal with Ikarus' now obvious crush, i'm sure that in the manga/novel/whatever Tomoki earned that much more than he did here

Anyway, even with these sudden developments the humor is great and the characters are likable not to mention that the more serious aspect is ( so far ) adding up nicely to the nonsense that we used to call a plot

As much as I don't want to admit it, they made me feel bad for Nymph. That scene with the bird was seriously screwed up. Worst of all, she thanks them for it. It's also pretty obvious why Ikaros hates Synapse so much, and why they probably fear her. So Nymph crying when Tomo was nice to her was equally moving. The single, tip of the tongue lick too, like she was so unsure whether it would poison her or not.

As for Ikaros' song, we've heard Hayami Saori sing before in a couple of series (OP to Sekirei, all throughout Basquash), but this one wasn't really my favorite. She is able to hit some really full sounding lower notes as far as most j-pop scales cover, and "fallen down" didn't have any of those. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't take the opportunity to exploit her vocal range, but otherwise it was a good song with a nice presentation to go along with it.

Of course, lest I forget, the Nipple song...ugh.

sidenote:
Is Kotobuki Minako already typecast into all the rich girl roles? K-ON, the other teleporter in Railgun, and now here too. Every time there seems to be a nameless rich girl, she's there voicing them.

For some reason, the sound quality dropped significantly during the song. The overall sound just felt hollow, like it was coming from a tin can speaker. Maybe they were trying to make it sound more realistic by simulating a real stage environment. Well, they failed. Live performances don't sound like cheap earphones. I would have been much happier with a toned up performance even if it sounded fake. Sora no Otoshimono is all about exaggeration anyway.

This was one of those really dumb episodes that makes this series so good.

Tomoki getting foiled before he even had a chance (like me posting this episode before Marik) when Sohara grabbed all of Ikaros' cards was a nice touch, as was Tomoki turning around and tricking Sugata into thinking the women's bath was a New World.

Mikako being the true test of how convincing Tomoko was always good for another laugh. Sohara of course is lovably naive, and falls for it instantly. Mikako is quite scary and imposing when you think about it, but also very, very sexy.

The training montage in the ED was great too, especially the parts where Sugata is coaching Tomoko in the correct form of various gal-game poses.

The best part, by far, was the ultra-creepy "Yeeeeeeeeeeeees!" at 15:13 when Mikako takes up his offer to wash her back.

According to mangaupdates, the anime ends at Volume 6, Chapter 25, but I haven't confirmed it myself. However, I have heard that certain events, like Nymph's first appearance, are considerably different.

it kinda diverged from pantsu a bit when they introduced Nymph. She came in and shed some light on what/who exactly Ikaros is, and then it leaned more towards Ikaros and Nymph's relationship with Tomoki. but it definitely still had the pantsu, and mindless comedy there.

Great episode, reminded me why I loved the first season.

Tomoki is a colossal pervert. But unlike many perverts, he gets dead serious about it. Sohara getting taken aback by his declaration that it would be insulting not to ogle the girl's bodies at the pool was entertaining. His will is so strong that he is willing to risk his own life (by drowning) in order to fulfill his perversion. He pretty much reteaches himself to swim in minutes.

The little moments too: 9:10 Terminator 2 reference, Excellent. Mikako pushing Nymph into the pool, the creative censorship, the visual metaphors, even a nice boat segment.

The Nymph side plot of wanted to be ordered around was kind of cute too. She still has a lot of growing up to do. It is perfectly understandable though, she's never really been free before. Of course she would be uncomfortable. Tomoki also refuses, because despite being a huge pervert, he is a really nice guy and he never would want to force someone to do something.

Also, Sohara is a closet pervert when it comes to Tomoki. Heh heh heh.

Why? All the releases are censored with intentional (not post-production censorship) flares of light or "stickers" anyway. CR rips are still 720p, and don't look particularly upscaled (plenty of detail). If you don't like the CR translation or want karaoke, I can see that, but the raws for this show don't make a difference.

As for the episode itself:

- Outstanding OP. I was laughing hard at the direct parody. I wonder if we're going to get a fresh OP and ED every episode like we got fresh EDs last season. Or maybe they're just mixing it up and switching to fresh OPs.

- The ED was nice too. The song was good (same vocalist pair as the previous season OP) and the animation portrayed the side of Ikaros and Nymph we started to see last season and in the OVA. Nymph wants a connection to Tomoko, and Ikaros doesn't understand why she feels a bit sad (likely the same reason).

- The dreams. Mikako is a psychopath and Eishirou is pretty normal. I noted that Mikako was faking being in danger the whole time while they were in his dream (she ran out with her arms up and "screaming" as the others tumbled into the cave). Sohara being a secret pervert, at last, confirmation! She might even be a little bit of an exhibitionist, since her dream self and Tomoki were behind the largest plate glass window in that house. It might sour her hitting Tomoki in the real world a bit since we know now that she likes it, but it's still funny.

- It isn't hard to make the logical jump (as Eishirou did) that Tomoki's dreams are directly connected to Synapse. The acorn wasn't a dream, they got to a weird place, etc. I was surprised that Ikaros recognized that Tomoki's dream was Synapse, but Nymph didn't seem to get it. Nymph is supposed to be the smarter one.

- No point in talking about Astraea (she was named in the OVA) this episode, her appearance was short, and judging from the preview title, the next entire episode is about her.

It is nice that while this show still sticks to its roots of being hilarious, things are also starting to get a bit more serious.

I liked Nymph's explanation of the three angelroid's processing capacities, and that being the primary reason neither of them cared to go save Tomoki.

It certainly explains how Ikaros can still appear so out of it all the time, she just doesn't have the processing capacity to handle emotions, everything is spent on combat and electronic countermeasures.

The beams of light kind of ruined Astraea's initial appearances, they were super distracting. I'll be archiving dvd/BD rips I suppose. I loved Astraea's sidelong glances though. The scene at the waterfall where they centered on her face (5:55) made me melt.

The "You rang?" recurring joke was good for a laugh.

Their creator just picked and chose. Alphas (Ikaros) are combat focused at the cost of ending up more robot like, Betas (Nymph) are the opposite, weak in combat but more human-like emotionally, and Deltas (Astraea) are a compromise between the two. The cost is that they're dumb.

You could consider it stages of development of the Angelroid platform. It's a balancing act until the technology gets better, which it did.

Gammas (the harpy ones) were good at combat, smart enough to trick Nymph at least twice, and obviously had emotions. So things obviously got better as they went along. With Gammas, they didn't need to sacrifice as much. Ikaros was obviously far stronger in combat, but there was a price for that.

Nymph didn't say or imply that. She said that Delta is stronger in close combat. She didn't say much stronger, or that Alpha won't have a chance or get defeated easily in close range. What she said also implies that Alpha is stronger in long range combat. I would say that they are about equal in combat performance overall. Fighting for angelroids isn't all about (or even much about) close combat anyway.

That's why I stated (and you quoted) that unless Ikaros can keep Astraea away, it will be hard for her to win. That would also make her much stronger in those conditions (close and through Ikaros' effective range).

We've seen Astraea's weapons (sword and shield). She for one, is surely all about close combat.

I assumed you meant in overall combat. If you meant only in close combat, I would agree (not fully though because Nymph never said the word much).

This show can always use more Mikako. Not to mention how hot Mikako and Sohara Masked Wrestler were in their outfits. I thought Mikako's was awesome, and then Sohara burst into the ring.

Tomoki nearly got Mikako to lose her unflappable confidence, pretty impressive.

They glanced over the serious stuff once Mikako found herself a new toy, but I liked the way Eishirou effortlessly played Astraea. It's kind of sad how stupid she is.

Last (in cup size) but not least, Nymph doesn't like other girls hanging around Tomoki...at least the ones that aren't also her friends. Ikaros is getting a bit more jealous of Nymph's interactions with Tomoki by the look of things. She can't display it well, but they're certainly making a point of it. All in all, Tomoki is very nice to his Angeloids. He could treat them like trash or do perverted things with them, yet he never does.

The serious parts have already started. Sohara and Eishirou's adventure into Synapse revealed quite a bit of information, and the series is shifting towards darker material now, the return of the panty robot aside. Eishirou also came off super cool with his planning and challenge to the leader of Synapse.

The biggest question was where all the citizens of Synapse are, and they answered it pretty starkly. They're "dreaming." With the girl appearing both in the forest and in the capsule as a citizen of Synapse, it's not that hard to conclude what they are dreaming, being on Earth. My guess is that Eishirou was taken to various Synapsians' dreams. The guy on the train, the grandma, the girl with the long ponytail.

Which is why his expression was so serious when he asked Nymph if he was real. She gave him a bit of relief on that point, but that hardly changes things. If that girl at least isn't real, who else isn't? Even among Tomoki's friends? Is Sohara? Is Mikako?

Pretty heavy stuff there. It seems like everyone in Synapse is there except for the evil leader. Where does that put the girl who appears in Tomoki's dreams asking for rescue?

I also noticed in the flyby that there were a set of broken columns suspended in the air. They looked a little like birdcages. I wonder if those were the same ones we saw in the very first episode. The ones that crashed around Tomoki and nearly crushed Ikaros when she first landed. It doesn't seem like a good way to secure an Angelroid considering how open they were, but who knows with their technology.

It seems the Leader will use the loli to attack them next. I'm guessing she's the one from the OP.

Concerning the episode, I find it interesting that the blue-haired Synapsian is now with Eishirou. A person who wants to learn the most about The New World, and a person most suited to teach him. I have to admit that I found him toying with the Harpies as amusing as it was foolish.

Astraea is retarded, food alone wins her over. (Or at least seeing Tomoki won't let even an enemy starve.) Nymph is dumb also, she wants a master so bad she won't even think about seeing through such an obvious trick, and neglects her other friends for the chance.

Lastly, Ikaros's anger is so cute. She fervently protects her little watermelons with needlessly overwhelming force. Simple beetles suffering the same weapons that entire civilizations once did.

You say that as if you know how the current arc in the manga is going to turn out, despite it not actually being out, and Chaos' evolution has only begun. I guess you know some guy on the internet who's childhood friend's cousin saw Minazuki Suu at a family restaurant talking to his editor about the upcoming chapters.

(Note to others, the manga is very similar to this episode right now, but the anime skipped over an arc and a few of the fun-type chapters. One can't really say this episode is filler.)

Personally, I really liked the way they executed this. Sure, parts of the manga are better done, but a sizable portion of the anime has been a good deal better than the manga. The voice work really changes the way I saw Chaos (desperate for acceptance from her sisters), and I think it is a large improvement. All of the angelroids are flawed in a number of ways, but usually down to a simple issue.

Nymph - Has dependency issues. She needs a master to be happy.
Ikaros - Doesn't understand her own emotions to clearly state what she wants.
Astraea - Needed to learn that she can rely on others.
Chaos - Wanted acceptance from the 1st series angelroids.

Tomoki has recognized most of these issues pretty quickly, but he wants them to be happy on their own, he doesn't want slaves (that's why Nymph's problem is such an issue).

The project serves as a continuation of the two Sora no Otoshimono (Heaven's Lost Property) anime series, which adapted Suu Minazuki's manga of the same name. The film, which will introduce a new Angeloid character, will open in Japan this summer.

Kadokawa Pictures describes the Sora no Otoshimono film as "a date movie for 'ria-jū.'" "Ria-jū" is a recent slang term for people who enjoy real life, as opposed to otaku. Series script supervisor Yuuko Kakihara and character designer Yoshihiro Watanabe are returning from the television version to work on the film.
