Ane Doki (あねどきっ, Ane Doki) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mizuki Kawashita, creator of Ichigo 100%. The manga began serialization in Shueisha's manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump on July 8, 2009.

The story of Ane Doki is about the 13 year old Kouta Ochiai who meets a mysterious girl on his way home from school. She asks him if she can have some of his ice cream he´s holding but calling him a perv afterwards cause she said what he was thinking while watching her eating. Shocked about the reveal, he runs away dropping his Student Handbook by accident. Arriving at home the situation gets out of control completely. His father becomes transferred because of his work and if it isn´t enough being on his own so sudden, the mysterious girl he met before already sitting next to him. By giving back his Student book and the situation Kouta is in right now, she thinks the time to repay the favor for the ice cream is perfect and that taking care of him while his dad is gone will do so. She introduces herself as Natsuki Hagiwara, a 17 year old High School student that will be his maid for the time he´s left on his own.

Just started reading this as apparently it's wsj's replacement for TLR

Looks interesting so far, and if the story doesn't suit your style you still have the echiness to move you along. Will keep updating as the story develops.

He's already fallen for her? That was quick

This seems to be taking a harem direction, not sure how i feel about that since i was hoping for more of a slice of life manga than a romance one

I hate it when anime girls cut their hair short in some sort of statement... long hair always looks better, no exceptions

I expect for Kouta to end up with Kanade... or Chiaki. And definitely not Natsuki. There's something on her character I don't like...

Of course being that the other two are tsundere... :D

Oh... while I do agree the cutting of hair was random... I like her looks.

I didn't really like the description of this series (sounded generic) but I really like Kawashita Mizuki's series. Some are stupid, but she has really good art and can make a really well developed story. Got bored one afternoon and read through the 20 or so chapters that are out now.

I hate it when anime girls cut their hair short in some sort of statement... long hair always looks better, no exceptionsAs it progresses, it really looks like the series is more in line with the mangaka's older series (Lilim Kiss, Kaede Typhoon). There are a lot of girls, and ecchi things happen with them, but the series is really only about a main pair. Chiaki being shy is one thing, but they are pushing Kanade because their affection is mutual. It's definitely more of a sisterly affection growing with Natsuki (and Chiaki on a more limited basis). It might tread the sis-con line, but I don't think that it will cross over it.

The author really likes that haircut. There is a girl in pretty much every series that looks just like that. Arihara in Hatsukoi Limited, Yui in Ichigo 100%, the stuck-up girl in Lilim Kiss. Same goes for Natsuki, a copy of Yamamoto, Aya, Lilim. Still, I think Kanade looked a little better with her old haircut.

Great run for the series overall, but I felt that the storyline was a bit too short for the ending to have a more profound effect that other similar manga under the same genre (it felt kind of anticlamatic, but that is probably just my preferences and that the series could have been a few chapters longer).

More closure would have been nice and I thought Natsuki's response was quite spontaneous. I guess that this is a good example of how a generic romance-comedy would be like without a harem and a large cast prolonging the story's continuation, but I found that this style works just as well -if not better.

I think it was a fine enough ending. It started to make me anxious already when it looked like Kouta fails time after time at telling Natsuki how he feels. But of course it had to be that kind of a last minute dash. Natsuki might have been a bit more romantic but then again she always kept her feet firmly on the ground, even if it made it look like it's all the same for her and she lets Kouta alone decide whether anything is ever going to happen between them. But I suppose that was her responsibility as the older one. She couldn't very well pressure the kid.

That was pretty unexpected, i had no idea that the series was going to be this short

It's not like i'm unhappy with the ending but i feel that there was so much more that could have been squeezed out of all of this that i can't help but feel somewhat disappointed

The series was canceled cause it ended at the bottom in several polls in a row. That's life on shonen jump. The ending was basically rushed.

I had read about the 'poll process' on Bakuman, but I never saw it really happening. Ane Doki never had the fans Ichigo 100% or Hatsukoi had, thus it was canceled.

Is that a fact, or an assumption you made based on the polls?

Fuck, i even remember reading that To-Love-Ru was canceled because the author was having an affair or a divorce or something... the internet is so full of shit.

While I don't have a source, its a fact that series on Shonen Jump are canceled based on the polls. Have you read Bakuman?

Mangaupdates clearly states the series as 'Discontinued' in reference to the cancellation.

You can find a translated version of the Weekly Shonen Jump rankings at:

http://community.livejournal.com/weeklyjump

The polls are influential, but the editor really has the final say.

The polls show it pretty clearly. Unless it is a "fighting tournament power leveling" kind of series, they do really shitty in WSJ. It was a huge mistake to put Ane Doki in WSJ in the first place. Completely wrong demographic. There are a lot of other Shueisha magazines that would have fit it better.

-------------------

It's not a bad way to end the series the way they did. I wouldn't mind seeing it return with him coming back a few years later. His father even mentioned that they didn't sell the house. Kanade lives closer than he thought, so they could even work that in. That would be pretty interesting. One can only hope.

Perhaps another magazine will pick up some kind of sequel to it.

I'd have preferred that they didn't do a 26.5 at all if it was just going to be 3 pages.
