Genres: magic

Plot Summary: The story centers on Marin and Urin, two “pure” sisters who live alongside the fish in the sea, but yearn to be in the world beyond the water and above ground. One day, a beautiful ring falls in the middle of the sea, and Marin and Urin retrieve it. The two decide to leave their waterbound world for the first time to deliver the ring. After an arduous journey, they come across an isolated island where a high school girl named Kanon lives. The encounter between Marin and Kanon — the maiden of the sea and the maiden of the skies — awakens a hidden power as the world is threatened by an enveloping darkness. ~ANN

I don't know. It feels a bit slow. Sometimes slow is good. Sometimes slow is boring. Right now, it feels more towards boring. I'll see how ep2 goes.

Seems like Urin wandered into Mirkwood and wakened the fell spirit of Sauron, who immediately set out to look for rings of power.

This looks like a series of some promise. I'll probably keep watching unless it turns sour at some point.

If this series didn't have the OST and ED it has, I might not be watching it. But with them, it works quite nicely. The enemies are mostly beyond ridiculous (in true mahou shoujo show fashion) but otherwise the story as well works surprisingly well. I like not only the exaggerated reactions the characters have but also some of the characters as such. Sam, the sea folk dude, was also hilarious by being nothing but a womanizer and totally useless otherwise. A real girl power show...

In loneliness I keep liking this series. The music plays a big part like I said in the previous post, but there are also other aspects. The characters are straight-forward with quite strongly preset distinct traits and personalities, which is exactly how I like it. Last but not least it's pretty nice to watch people try to break through Kanon's evil aura.

While action or anything related to it is certainly not the strong point of the show, one thing this series has pulled off better than many shounen shows is how the miko powers of those two are tied to their psychological and spiritual condition. I know I've been annoyed by such issues when watching some shows in the past (that is, when a main character loses faith in himself and thus loses his special powers), but it works very nicely in this show and seems to make sense.

I ended up marathoning the last three eps as I had generally speaking built up quite a backlog of anime episodes recently (with the exception of a select few series like the other monogatari of this closing season). Anyway, after watching the last episode, I'm very satisfied with the series. The ED was giving me Haibane Renmei vibes all the time, which is not a bad thing no matter how little the two series share.

This was definitely quite a traditional friendship plus good vs evil story but with the twist revealed in the last episode, that is, Sedona's true identity, it became at least a bit more original and the friendship aspect far more tolerable. Altough I wouldn't really admire the "realism" of friends willingly killing each other either. Like I said earlier already, the status of the girls' miko powers was far better handled in this show than in great many others. Though even so it kind of bothers me how they apparently lost those powers in the battle yet are still supposed to be the sacred miko.

The parting would have been far better if Kanon had kicked the old turtle back to the sea after he said they can't meet again due to some old rules that were anyway proven wrong time after time during the who ordeal. Why the heck would they willingly listen to them anyway, seeing how those rules didn't help them a bit to solve the whole issue. In a story like this it should be as clear as water that if there's a rule forbidding friendship, that rule is wrong.

I'll most certainly burn this series even under my new archiving guidelines.

I dropped this because of the mahou shoujo "fight" scenes. I really detest those. Should I have not dropped it? Is there something in this series that will let me get past that?

Hard to say. Why the fights are like they are is partially explained in the last episode, but of course that won't change the way they are, even if it makes you think they might indeed have been appropriate that way. There are a number of fights in the show but only a couple of them are what you'd really call fights. I suppose you need to like the show otherwise enough to let most of the fights slide.
