Love how these episodes have so much integrity. Ironically the self proclaimed liar had his lies seen through, and was misguided by a "lie" of sorts right at the end.
Sometimes the jokes and parts can seem formulaic because they're used rather frequently in this show, but they're still good.

There's something really satisfying about seeing Akaishi cry out in triumph. When a "relatively" untalented guy like him scores a few moments in the spotlight, it just makes success all the more sweet.
Azuma's moves were good fun to watch too. It shows that he really is a baseball player and not just a batting god who either walks on a ball or a home run.

Haha, yeah, definitely, but I'm guessing that's a foul by Kou. You can't finish the game without striking out Mishima with a 160kmph. :p
Well..maybe you can, and it'd be good for them to come full-circle to finish off with Kou's batting skills again, but then what are we going to do for the rest of the episode? I'm still sticking with theory 1 ^ .

I specially like the direction of the scenes in this episode.
And what great timing for Nakanishi to have an error.. Seriously lol. Well I guess you can't have the anime ending without the aces having to face each other seriously.

But Seishu is not at the bottom of the scoreboard, so Kou can still strike Mishima out even if he does score.

Oh yeah. I forgot Seishu goes offensive first. Great, then we can have him save the day AND throw the 160.
Say, I've been wondering, does the cat get its own "Meow" panel in every chapter? I works in the anime, but I'm not sure how well it comes off in the manga.
It was great seeing Ichinee nervous about the fate of her wedding for once. Ironically Junpei only remembered partway through, and shrugged it off to enjoy the game.

Lol imagine your wedding depends on a baseball game... He is rather calm but what would happen if Seishuu loses then he commit suicide, because he didnt know Ichinose would still marry him whatever happens.. What a twist.

Very fruitful ending. Guess we didn't get to see the magic number, but as if we need any more confirmation than Mishima's reluctance to swing.
The ED timeskip was a tad confusing. I'm guessing Seishu went to Koshien and played their games immediately, while Ichinee and Junpei's wedding came after. So they glossed right over the outcome of that?
Yuhei smiling a real smile for the first time in this series was a nice touch. It shows that he's always felt guilty about ruining his brother's career, and was finally glad that Junpei found happiness in the end.
I can't decide whether I want to move right onto the manga or wait for another animated version.

I meant a sequel/continuation.

But there won't be a sequel/continuation. The manga ended at exactly the same point.
I loved the manga ending more than the anime, but that is only because I had already read the manga before watching the anime. Basically, both are masterpieces.

I prefer the anime ending over the manga ending, mainly because they went past the hand holding scene and showed part of Ichi-nee's wedding.

What? The manga's finished? No Koshien games? No National league?
:(
edit: *sigh*.. but better a compact, well done end than a drawn out one I suppose.
Still.... damn :S

Yup, it's over. It ended at the hand holding scene.

I like it for what it is. I would probably lose interest after they got together anyway. The thrill is in the chase, or in chasing each other while pretending not to in this specific case.

I just HAD to read chap158 (Kou vs Mishima) to the end.
I found both endings quite different in execution, and like both of them for what they are.
The anime had the benefit of medium, where it got to use transition effects, zoomouts, soundtracks and panning etc. In particular, Aoba's " Kou knew of my pain and happiness all along" speech was greatly accented with use of those flashbacks and soundtrack. This part was done better (or rather, could only be done to that effect) in the anime.
The ending sequences also provided a lot more closure for the other characters, and the story as a "whole", if you consider that a story is made up of all those characters.
The manga ended more abruptedly with Kou and Aoba holding hands, and by leaving us with that, the entire focus was on the pairing, resulting in a much more powerful ending. Also, the lack of soundtracks and panning during Aoba's "Kou knew..." scene meant our sole focus were on her words. That too adds to the impact. This ending wasn't about anyone else but them.
I found the clover speech to be better suited to the manga ending than the anime. Being placed immediately after that scene, much of the notion of the two's relationship is retained, making it more meaningful as well as having the "tying it all up" effect.
In the anime, this "tying it all up" was done partially, if not totally, by the ending sequences, so when the clover speech started, the show was more or less in a finished state, making it seem a bit tacked on, disrupting the flow a bit.

While the anime expanded what happened with the rest, and it was welcome, I too prefer the manga version of the ending, focusing just on Aoba and Kou. Nothing else mattered but them in the end.

Well, finally managed to watch this one. Was a big fan of the manga, as since I had read it fully, watching this wasn't much of a priority. And given the tragedy that couches the series, I wasn't in the mood to relive it.
In any case, as expected, this was an awesome series and it was nice to watch animated. Adachi is pretty much my favorite managaka, or at least among the favorites... I've pretty much read everything that's been scanlated from him. Many of his series are quite similar, but it never gets old for me.
As for the anime, I thought the music score was great. That said, I think it ruined much of the comedic timing. By the same token, it worked really well in dramatic scenes.
The voice acting was spot on, but I honestly didn't like Kou's much. I think he came off as more whiny than it was meant to. Typically the purpose is for comedy and entertainment, but he really came off as too extremely whiny for my tastes during much of it. Other than that, I liked the rest.
Another plus was that for a sports series it was pleasantly paced, no prolonged games for example.
Well, Cross Game is one of my favorite Adachi series, in many ways my favorite, so glad to experience it in another medium once again.
Since Cross Game Adachi hasn't really worked on anything of note. There was Q and A, which really sucked to be honest. And then there's the current Mix.
Mix actually I like, but it's been quite slow going and the scanlations are slow.
Hopefully we get a Katsu! and Rough animation some day.
