Man this is flying by quickly. I think we might see the end after 4 seasons.
To me it went by slowly, since they spent so much time on the Freeza saga. They already said that the series would be 99 episodes on 33 dvds and an 8 disc blu-ray box set. That means that there's only 45 eps left for both the Cell and Buu sagas. Hopefully they don't skip anything meaningful.
There's supposed to be a new ED in the next episode (55). The song will be performed by "Team Dragon" which is made up of members from the idol group AKB48, which itself is comprised of seven members.
I'm glad that Dragon Soul will remain as the OP.

Edit: lol @ Kai airing on nicktoons.

Yeah, I had no idea this was scheduled for 99 episodes. Like Marik, though, that actually makes me quite sad since so much time was spent on the Freeza arc that it doesn't seem like the rest of the series can fit in 40 something episodes.
Then again, I don't remember what all of the rest of the series was filler/unneeded.

Thu, 04-29-2010, 07:03 PM
Wow really, only 99 episodes? 40 episodes...... It'll take like 40 episodes for the Buu saga, lol.
DarthEnderX
Thu, 04-29-2010, 09:51 PM
Keep in mind that there are entire arcs of the series after Freeza that are filler. Like the Garlic Jr. arc or the Otherworld Tournament arc. So there's most definitely more filler in the second two thirds of the series than there is in the first third.
Then again, maybe they really are going to stop after the Cell Saga like I was hoping they would.

The first DBZ VHS tapes I bought (the English dub of course) was the Trunks arc tapes... It hadn't even aired on Cartoon Network yet (I think they were cycling the Saiyan/Namek/Freeza arc). Anyways, it's awesome to see this arc minus the fillers, and made more badass by being subbed (still enjoy seeing Vegeta's reactions to the yellow and pink attire). Brings back a lot of memories, that's for sure.
Dragon Soul got updated visuals at the end... I was expecting that, but I was actually expecting the entire OP sequence to be updated. The ED seemed too short to me.

I thought the new OP sequences were awesome but I wish they'd sprung for upgrading the whole thing as well. Maybe by the time Cell rolls around they'll have nudged the earlier stuff like Krillin or Tien being involved or Goku vs Vegeta out to make room for both the Androids and him.

Hopefully, but I'm doubtful. They have Gohan in Super Saiyan form towards the end of the OP, and that doesn't happen until the middle of the whole Cell arc. But, they didn't show Cell, so it is entirely possible to make that addition after he has been revealed.

Probably. I mean, the parts with Freeza fighting Goku weren't in the opening originally either.
Seems like the Goku vs. Big Bad part of the opening gets changed as the big bad changes.

FAN-tastic! Hour and a half of entertainment is on the way for me.
So Freeza Saga finishes in only 54 episodes.
Fully half the 107 episodes it took in Z.
Not too bad.
But yeah, if they really are planning to end it at 100 episodes, there's no way the Buu saga is making it into this series.

Because some people have gotten DMCA notices from their ISPs due to using torrents. A direct download is better if you want to avoid losing your internet service.

Important Notice:
Well after a long talk within our main group members (excluding DarkGamer, sorry about that...) it seems not many wants to stay with the group. Our translator has finally graduated from hig school and soon joining college, the timer on the other hand have a medical university to take care of, the other translator is already under a lot of mess so she hardly contacts us.
As for me, DarkGamer(encoder), and other multilingual translators AND also our new timer PSPfanatic whom I haven't yet introduced wouldn't really have any kind of problem to keep the Group running but as the main staff of the group are all wanting to leave
I would like to announce that this group would dissolve by the start of September (which would be completing our 1 year in fansubbing ^_^)
After that the remaining group members may join any other fansub group, I myself would do so too :P
well I wished for completing the Dragon Ball Kai series atleast but I guess one year is all we could handle this fansubbing fun :)
Time to find another group for Kai.

It's different. TAKA's .mp4 and TAKA's .mkv are different.
Compare their Naruto Shippuuden or Dragon Ball Kai .mkv and .mp4 and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I never got into DBZ. Well I watched a few and knew enough to make fun of it, but never liked it because the fights always lasted forever. I like DBKai but with no subs, I'm lost.

Freeze-subs is returning to do Kai, but they need an encoder.
Hmmm decided to re run freeze-subs :D be happy people your wishes have been granted :D
Some notes regarding start:
All projects dropped until we get more translators, only DBkai is kept and Blue dragon's translation is handled by fanservice so keeping that too.
And we'll start on our episode 71-72 as soon as we get our encoder's response.
Anyone up for encoding? Who has a good internet, good pc, and has done encoding for a fansub before
Translations done.............................................. .........................only missing an encoder :|

Get eps 71 and 72 v2 below in post #326.
I'll post episode 71 whenever Freeze-subs releases it. The D-SnF Spanish to English release of 71 was awful.
Edit:
71 will come later this week.
Also new edition to our team. The Slain Man has joined the team as an encoder!

This isn't really DBK news, but it affects DBK. The manga Toriko, is taking DBK's TV spot in April. It's seems that Kai will actually end at 99 episodes.
News: Toriko Manga Gets TV Anime Series Next April
Next year's combined 3rd/4th volume of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that a television anime adaptation of Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro's Toriko manga has been green-lit. In the story, the title character Toriko is a "Bishokuya" (gourmet food provider) who travels the world to hunt down the animals and plants needed for the finest cuisine dishes. The anime series will premiere next April at 9:00 a.m. on Sundays on Fuji TV and other stations.
The manga has been running in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2008, and the 12th compiled book volume is shipping this month. The magazine had already announced in September that a 3D film version of Toriko (and One Piece) will open in Japan on March 19, 2011. There were also two Toriko anime specials produced for this year's and last year's Jump Super Anime Tour events. Viz Media will publish the fourth volume of the manga in North America next March.
Fuji TV's 9:00 a.m. timeslot on Sundays is currently held by Dragon Ball Kai. The Toriko television anime will run before the One Piece television anime series, which currently runs at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays on Fuji TV.

The fact that they're not doing the Buu sagas doesn't bother me. After all Kai is being billed as the "Toriyama Cut" of Dragonball Z, and even though the Buu sagas are from the manga, he originally intended to end Dragonball after the Cell saga, and was pressured into continuing the series past where he wanted to.

It seems that DBK will be ending at Episode 98.
Multiple sources and blogs in Japan are now reporting that the series will indeed be ending this month. The most damning evidence comes from TV Pia magazine in Japan which publishes a regular feature looking at the upcoming Kai episodes. In the latest copy of the magazine an interview with Kusao Takeshi (Trunks) was published where he stated, "I hope they'll remake the Buu arc as well if they get a chance". The magazine also noted that there are only four episodes left, confirming an episode count of 98 for the series.
Fuji TV has also posted a list of all new programming (http://www.fujitv.co.jp/tokuhen/11spring/new.html#anime) which once again confirms that Toriko will be taking the Kai time slot at 9:00am every Sunday starting in April. The official Toriko website (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/toriko/) has also launched which contains an interview at Jump Festa with Toriko's voice actor, Okiayu Ryoutarou, in which he confirms that Toriko will be airing alongside the popular One Piece anime. It was also recently revealed (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-03-02/toriko-one-piece-get-crossover-tv-anime-special) that a cross-over special featuring Toriko and One Piece will be airing on Fuji TV on 3 April 2011. So with that, the final episode of Kai will air on 27 March 2011.

It's a shame.... People always talk about how it should've ended after Cell, but imo the Cell saga was the weakest of all three. Would have been a horrible spot to just end the show in the original. If they ended it after Frieza then it'd be more understandable because that saga was epic. The Buu saga is also one of my favorites and I thought to be the best one.

The frieza saga was epic..... mostly because it wasn't just frieza. And that climb up to him was perfect. In the original there were so many episodes with just cell as the villain I'm sure it added up to more than just frieza's fight. Fucking hell just thinking about how many there were for both of them brings back painful flashbacks of endless powerups and staring that makes me hate my television to this day.
Buu was the dumbest. Its obvious. Cmon. But it was also the most fun. I hardly had a laugh except for these last few Cell ones....
"Oh... was that trunks I hit?" LOL
--Vegeta gets KO'd-- "Now go to hell vegeta" hahahha just the way Cell says it. Even tho its another language still had me. He fucking hated vegeta just like everyone compared to when he kills trunks he's kinda complacent about it.
The best one was King Kai's screaming YOU BROUGHT HIM HERE YOU FUCKER!!!! And you killed me just to save one piece of shit planet?!
But Gohan's one handed Kamehameha is forever above the most top of all tiers for any attack in anything.
Def sucks no Buu saga butttt I'm still gonna go watch it again. Lets see how far in I can get until I cant stand the absolute nothing that happens for 9/10's each episode.

Episode 97 (which aired today) will be the last episode.
Toei Animation has announced that Dragon Ball Kai will end with episode #97. It had previously been announced that Dragon Ball Kai would run for 98 episodes, covering chapters #195-420 of the Dragon Ball comic. This change will result in the exclusion of chapters #419-420 of the 519 chapter comic.
Episode #98 was originally scheduled to air on March 27, 2011. However, due to the earthquakes in Japan episode #96 was delayed one week. Episode #97 is now scheduled to air in this final slot, handing the slot over to Toei Animation's next animated series, Toriko, beginning April 3.
How this will affect repeat runs of the series or Toei Animation's release of the series on home video is unknown. It is also unknown how this will affect the multiple international licensees' release of the series.
Also if you guys hadn't noticed, they went back to using DBZ music because they were sued for plagiarism.
Toei Animation announced that more than one background musics of Dragon Ball Kai were suspected to infringe the copyrights of third parties. They have already replaced those musics with the original BGMs of Dragon Ball Z.
Toei Animation had assigned the music of Dragon Ball Kai to Yamamoto Kenji instead of Kikuchi Shunsuke. Yamamoto Kenji's other musics have also been suspected to be plagiarized works.

Man... I wish they used the original tracks from the start. After seeing the series end here at Cell saga, I've come to realize DBZ would have been great no matter which saga it ended at. Frieza, Cell, Buu were all great imo. Also wish they would do the Buu saga too though. =(

Lol, who were they stealing music from?
Various people.
Something we have talked (and joked) about for years has been the blatant plagiarism from Kenji Yamamoto in various bits of music for the franchise. Some pieces have taken inspiration, but others have been flat-out "stolen" — examples such as Cell's theme from Super Butôden 2 on the Super Famicom (Pink Floyd's "One of These Days") and "Battle Point Unlimited" from DBZ TV Episode 120 (Propaganda's "The Murder of Love", among other of their songs) come to mind.
From its inception, there have been allegations from fans about Yamamoto's score for DragonBall Kai, his first foray into solely scoring a TV adaptation of the series (previously only having composed and arranged additional vocal songs while Shunsuke Kikuchi handled BGM composition for the DragonBall and DragonBall Z TV series, as well as scoring various video games).
Toei has finally acknowledged this practice, specifically with regard to DragonBall Kai. In an official statement posted on their website yesterday, Toei noted:
The existence of multiple suspicious musical pieces which may infringe on the rights of third parties has been confirmed within the musical compositions recorded for "Dragon Ball Kai", an animated television work produced by this firm. The relevant musical pieces are used as background music in "Dragon Ball Kai", and measures are promptly being taken to replace the relevant musical pieces from the background music of "Dragon Ball Kai".
Also, we are proceeding with a swift investigation of the facts, and discussion of countermeasures with concerned parties in the near future.
The culprits are likely BGM tracks named "The Ebb and The Flow" and "A New Foe Rears His Head" which are essentially the tracks "War" by James Horner from the Avatar score and the Terminator Salvation opening theme by Danny Elfman, respectively. Both of these pieces were included on DragonBall Kai Soundtrack III & Songs and are used in the series beginning in the "Jinzôningen & Cell arc" around the time that Trunks appears (coincidentally, just about where the television broadcast of the English dub happens to be these days). Keep in mind that Toei themselves have not actually named specific pieces of music, so while this is not quite "speculation" or "rumor", it should be held in check.
This would seemingly explain why the fourth soundtrack collection for the "refreshed" TV series was canceled for a second time.
Toei's official website for DragonBall Kai (as well as Fuji TV's own site) now solely list Shunsuke Kikuchi as staff under "Music."

That's a shame. The soundtrack is one of the #1 things I don't think holds up very well from the original series.
At least, not the Japanese version
North American SSJ3 theme is like one of my favorite songs of all time.

I have to agree, the US version (FUNI) of DBZ is the exception to 'my' anime rules if several ways... normally I dislike dubs.. I like the DBZ ones.. the music of the original is mostly 'mèh' for me, but the Funi version from Bruce Faulconer have some very nice ones. Normally touching music of the original series is like the worst thing you can do.

Well, to be fair, the old soundtrack had it's good moments too. For example, when Gohan went SSJ2 or when Majin Vegeta hugging Trunks. Likewise, BF music had times were it just seemed out of place. But, I'm like you, I prefer the U.S. version more. My personal favorites are Vegetas and Trunks themes, SSJ3 Goku, Capt. Ginyus Transformation... amongst others.
In anycase, I finally watched the last episode. Kind of disappointed really but I dont know why. I guess it's because I know theres so much more to the story lol. I liked how they changed Vegetas line from "I'll never fight again" to "I must train" but it kind of ruins Bojacks movie for me too.

Anyone know why ep 98 is only 4:3?
Because the TV version wasn't really 16:9. It was cropped and re-framed. The Blu-ray version is uncropped 4:3.
It was also announced that the DVD releases would contain the same (cropped and re-framed) 16:9 aspect ratio as the broadcast airing, yet the Blu-ray releases would contain a high-definition 4:3, full-frame aspect ratio. Both the DVD and Blu-ray releases would contain a Linear PCM 2.0 stereo audio track.

I'm fine with that. The series was made in 4:3, so just HD-ify it like that. If they want 16:9, then redo the whole series, and don't mess with the originals.
It's the same with the HD releases of Funimation. HD is nice and all, but if it's cropped to save money, don't do it.
I'm still looking for the R1 DVDs of the originals, those were the best release to date, IMO.
Edit:A bit offtopic (not about DB Kai) Looking around for releases, I found that Funi is releasing a HD remastered version of DBZ on Blu-ray. The original series remastered in 4:3 HD format, with triple audio.
If they release it with the first dub they did (not the edited one for the 16:9 HD release, they butchered super Buu's voice etc.) then I'm game!

So if this is canon...
Freeza had a brother, or relative, named Chilled. Chilled discovered the Saiyajins, most importantly the existence of Super Saiyajins. On his death bed, he told his crew to warn his family of the Saiyajins, which caused Freeza to hunt them down and (ultimately) exterminate them. This culminated in sending Bardock back in time, where he became a Super Saiyajin and defeated Chilled, repeating the cycle.
So how does the initial timeline go? In every scenario, in order to get to the point where Bardock "dies" at Freeza's hands, Freeza has to be aware of, and afraid of, the Saiyajins because of what he heard from Chilled. But this only happened because Bardock was sent back in time by Freeza's energy explosion, causing Chilled to have his fateful clash. There has to be that first timeline somewhere that created the loop. But how?
My brain hurts from thinking about this....

It does basically explain why there are all these legends of the Super Saiyan, when there hadn't really been any before Goku. Although that had already been explained by Broli's existence, even though that's not canon.
It's a really shitty explanation though, because there's absolutely NO explanation as to how Bardock traveled back in time in the first place.

I clicked on the manga link and found this:
Description
From Wikia:
Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock is a three chapter manga created by Ooishi Naho and based on the video game Dragon Ball Heroes. It features a spin-off scenario taking place after the events of the TV special Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku, in which Bardock survives after his confrontation against Frieza and turns into a Super Saiyan.
This should make clear that it's not canon, just a spinoff, like SS3 Trunks.

Just because it originated from a game doesn't mean it doesn't later become canon if Toriyama makes a manga out of it.

I think maybe the Gravity of the planet and the gravity of Freiza's attack with the force of the attack crushing (Acting as a synthesized Black hole) or causing Bardock to accelerate faster than light and so he materialized in the past. Don't forget, on Planet Plant/Vegeta, gravity is 10x that on Earth. :P

I never saw the entire Buu arc, so I'm somewhat excited for this release.
