Manga: The Legend of Maian

Has anyone taken a look at this manga yet? I just checked it out for the first time today, its only 6 chapters in, but looks like it could be a good one.

When I first looked at it, I thought it might have been a continuation of Record of Lodoss War based on the artwork. But it isn't, its it's own story.

Its a shame that this isn't a weekly publication and the chapters are spread out so far, because this seems like one that I could really get into.

Well, I stopped at chapter three for a while, but decided to catch up and noticed that there's only six chapters available. I quickly strolled through them and I found chapter five and six to be funny because of what Felicia says and how Fenix reacts to her. Now, I'm awaiting chapter seven to be translated.

The main character is a whining shemale. Bit of a departure from the main leads of IDY other series. The story is pretty good so far though and the idea of an adventure to find the knights sound interesting.

What is Felix scared of? He has Felicia at his mercy so she wouldn't dare do anything rash without him at her side, but the quest for these knights seem interesting, indeed.

Heh, this manga entertains very well, as it possesses good action and comedy. The only thing that annoys me is that Felix is hesitant to kiss Felicia and puts Ruby in danger.

Yeah, Felix needs to man up and stop being scared to kiss a hot, albeit powerful and evil, chick.

Also, It seems like the introduction of Ruby, if she survives and I'm sure she will, has opened the door for Felix to be put into more dangerous situations. Something along the lines of someone discovering that Felix is the key to Felicia's powers and kidnapping him, and then Felicia and Ruby needing to go and rescue him.

It's kind of hard to keep track of the spells with the chapters being so far apart. I'll have to go back and read them all again after a few more chapters come out.

17, 18, and 19 are out, with some nice development.

Lyna is shaping up to be a pretty interesting (and powerful) character. I think these chapters have been my favorite so far.

I don't know that she has the same powers as Felicia, I think she is just overly prideful. She admitted to her husband that she is no match for Felicia and never was.
And as much as I love Felicia being an all-powerful badass, I do hope that the main villain is more powerful and that we get to see some awesome teamwork with Felicia and the Regis Knights to take him down. I also expect that Felix will eventually become a great... sword guy... whatever they called it early on, I forget.

Her power capacity is probably close to Felicia's. Of course, this was when she was a Regis Knight and not knowing how much her powers have diminished, if any, it's hard to tell.

Pretty good chapter overall. I love how Felicia always forgets to kiss Felix, lol.

I guess next chapter we will get to see Lyna in action. I'm really hoping she takes out these monsters without Felicia's help, because I hate when mangaka's make every character but the main character useless.

Yeah, Felix needs to man-up and stop being scared of everything. I'm glad he is in the tournament though, I'm looking forward to seeing him become like Faize Maian. I'd imagine he will discover some hidden fighting ability that he didn't know he had through this tournament.

I don't know... I'm sure she is super strong, and Felix is mistaken for expecting an easy fight. But, it seems more like she is a sensor of sorts who can detect magic users. She just might end up joining the party, because that ability would be of great use to Felicia.

I fully expect him to, especially now that Felicia is done. Ever since the tournament started, I've been thinking that Felix would be the one to face the impostor David in the finals. Felicia is already out and I'm expecting Anna Maise to lose at some point as well. He'll be the only one left to stop the impostor from killing Mark the Third.

That's highly plausible and would probably make for an intense battle. I'm just dreading Felix making a Naruto-esque speach to David about how killing people is wrong, even though he already knows that it's some kind of evil magic monster.

Hah, a little too much history in this one I think. We got two flashbacks back to back.

Pretty cool that Felix has awakened the Blood Fines. We don't really know anything about it, other than it is the "Warrior God" power. Hopefully Felix will beat up Vegita, and then we will learn a thing or two about Blood Fines.

I loved page 49 of volume 7. Reminded me of Bloodsport when Chong Li beat up Jackson real bad and Van Damme was looking up at Chong Li all pissed.

That was one of the worst cliffhangers ever.

The stupid flashback took too many pages. No one cares about some guy and his family. The whole story could have been told in 1 chapter.

I need to see the blood fines now. It was built up so much so I'm expecting something really awesome. I really do hope he manages to beat that whining bastard instead of merely winning the bet by landing one hit.

Even if he does, I don't think he can properly control his power yet, so it won't be too much of a power up.

Is volume 9 already out? I want to see the raws even if I won't understand them.

Seriously, this guy doesn't deserve a full volume flashback when everyone knows he's just going to be demote to sidekick status. If anything, his stupid long flashback makes me dislikes the character even more because of the typical cliche "Everyone we know turning against us because we're monsters" nonsense.

Volume 9 is out, and was supposed to be part of this release, but I guess they decided to wait. I thought it was weird though that these volumes were only 4 chapters each, when all the previous ones were 7 each.

I read through the eight volumes this week and while this series is amazingly cliched and veritably prostrates before the shounen textbook, it's still quite entertaining. I guess when you do things right, it works. Not that this story would be doing things quite right but it still manages to work. Like in this fight it bothers me greatly how Felix suddenly lost those awesome movements he had in the previous one. He can't even attempt to evade, for some reason, and just stands still accepting all the punishment like Rocky.

I don't think it was so much that Felix lost his ability to evade, but rather the guy he was fighting is on a completely different level than the nun. He was managing to block early in the fight, but then the other guy really turned it up. Still...I agree it would have been nice to see him put up a little better fight before the Blood Fines was activated.

I went and voted as the entire volume. That suits me well. I read most manga anyway by letting them accumulate a bunch of chapters and then reading them back to back. A single chapter feels so bloody short.

So... who the hell knows when volume 9 will be released now. SC is screwing with everyone and intentionally delaying releasing it. They got mad because people were asking about the release, so now they are screwing everyone else who is waiting patiently for it, when it was their own fault people are asking about it. They had put a post months ago, before they switched to the new site, that vol. 9 would be released with 7 and 8, then they didn't release it. Then they put up a post and a poll about 2 months ago, asking if people would prefer to have it released as a whole volume or as a single chapter each week. They never posted the results of the poll or gave any further information on the release.
Now, I understand that they are providing this service for free at their own expense and leisure, but, if you make these posts about a release and then don't follow up with the release, people are going to ask you what the deal is. Mind you, I'm not one of the people who was asking about it, but I do understand why people would get impatient after seeing posts announcing the release months ago, but the release never comes. I don't think it is right of them to get mad at those people and use that as an excuse to screw the majority of fans who are waiting patiently for the release.

Anyway, thats my rant, and thats is the current situation with vol 9. hopefully we will get it soon, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Well... the release of volume 9 was further delayed by Badger Scans. They came along and started releasing Witch Hunter, a series that Scantily-Clad has been releasing since they were Dredshi and that made them angry.

MacKnight from S-C, has worked on over 10 volumes of Witch Hunter and got pissed and started a flame war on Badger Scans' site. A competition started between the two groups and because of that, Witch Hunter became the translator's priority.

Last Sunday, November 7th, they said that Maian v9 was in QC and someone brought it up on IRC....

I like how Jeong Soo Cheol's art has matured as the series goes on. I just marathoned the first eight volumes earlier this week. Some of the close up shots of Felicia in this volume look like Kawashita Mizuki's art (Ichigo 100%, Anedoki, Hatsukoi Limited).

Awesome chapters. Blood Fines is so cool even though the concept seems vaguely familiar. Although Felix didn't win, I was glad that he got something through to Soun and in the end, benefitted Felicia in a lot of ways. Here's hoping that Felix will be strong enough to protect everyone.

I like what this tournament did to Felix and Felicia's relationship, but I'm far from happy with the uber cliche plot device of making Felix forget everything that happened. How the heck can the dude get any better if he forgets about fights right afterwards... Of course I'm not saying he should now immediately be free to use blood fines at will but he should have at least remember something of what happened to give him a goal.

Cool chapters. I was surprised that it wasn't Felix who fought Davide Schole, but its pretty cool how they added another Regis Knight to the party. They didn't just locate one of the old knights, like they had always done before, instead they recruited Uraeshi to replace his father. And all I can think about when I look at Uraeshi with the Rivland is Majin Vegita, lol.

It actually reminded me more of the Dragon Knights from Dragon Quest: Dai's Adventure. This volume was pretty awesome, Felix is slowly shaping up to be a decent character instead of being a whiny sissy.

It seems the next volume is gonna be about the vengeful Felix, or at least that is what the previee indicates.

That was surprising... But then again, stories seem to often have this kind of halfway point if that's what it takes to make the main character grow up. I'd have rather continued to watch the awkward romance between those two than a vengeance plot, so I can only hope the future has something good in stock.

If Felicia is dead then there is no vengeance plot because Diha would also die, along with every single other Regis Knight. If i remember correctly, one of the earlier volume mentioned that all the knight's life are binded with Felicia. I really doubt she is dead though, more likely we'll see her in some sort of coma or trap somewhere and the next arc is Felix trying to rescue her.

Diha had grown beyond their expectations so I think the first thing he would have done is to unbind himself from the Rivland fate and, perhaps, bind himself to something else if necessary. By any reckoning he's a smart dude so he must have foreseen the possibility of needing to face Felicia - in fact he did because he most likely developed the annihilation spell for that very purpose.

Still, I won't deny the possibility of Felicia being in a state such as you described - simply because it would be uber traditional writing and the Koreans could be even better at that than the Japanese.

Yeah I was about to mention what Dark said. I am pretty sure they will think that she is alive since they are. But I must say I wouldn't say no to a time skip of a year or a few months. Just to show how much Felix has grown and how they are all dealing with it. I do believe that he would kinda become their leader if he does grow up. Being Maian's descendant and all.

What makes you think any of the Regis Knigts did survive (aside from Diha who would be a fool to kill himself)? I didn't get that kind of impression from the last pages. It was only talking about Felix and new characters.

Ahh I stand corrected. From the looks of it only Felix and Ruby were send away. However there are still a few Regis Knights left. If he is going defeat Dihas then he would need their help. But since he can't detect them....woops.

I don't think the new characters the preview page was referring to are Regis Knights. Basically a Warrior God like Felix shouldn't need anybody's help to defeat Diha - if he can ensnare him into a one on one fight. It's yet to be seen how smart his vengeance fuelled guile will turn him and thus how much he needs to rely on others for distractions.

Still it would be nice to see him teaming up with the other Regis Knights. He might be a Warrior God reincarnated but he has no control over it. If he were to meet up with a Regis Knight who, like him, uses a sword then he could learn how to fight better instead of instinct. Then again...his instinct allowed him to defeat the Devilhro ( or w/e it was )

I wouldn't anymore know what to think of this story if we got a time jump of some length and were offered a revenge minded main character who still can't do shit. I'm expecting he will kick ass and be able tap into the Warrior God powers at will in the second half of the story. Maybe not as fluently as ancient Maian but at least he should be full of hatred - the most powerful fuel in combat.

Perhaps that means that Delvishu are like a distorted side branch of the Descendants of Maian and that Felix became like this because he cursed himself for being so weak? Would explain his behavior a bit. I want more!

Hmm... Felix got quite a character change. The guy's seething with hatred. Too bad it seems like it has stalled his development somewhat. He's a powerhouse of raw energy but it doesn't look like he has free reign of the warrior god attributes. Quite honestly I'm somewhat disappointed with his prowess after five years. He's just wandering some backwoods beating up weaklings and appearing a madman or, more funnily, an enemy.

I guess the baby is Felix and Felicia's. Somehow frozen growth wise. If Diha manages to raise him as a magi and loyal to him, he might indeed be unstoppable, assuming he inherited sufficiently from both sides. Seeing how little Felix managed to achieve in five years, I guess Diha won't even need to hurry.

for some weird motivation he get some ability from his old party members for exemple:
he can cast magic like phelicia, he can go berserk like Uraeshi (and his was a devilishu)

I very much doubt going berserk and using spells half uncontrollably will help him that much against the more powerful opponents. Not to mention he certainly won't be able to recruit any allies, unless they help him out of pity. You might call that development but I wouldn't. Even if he did get a lot more powerful, he unfortunately seemed to lose half of his brain in the process. That's not good for somebody who should act the role of a boss, not a follower anymore.

He uses Feil magic. Which is what warriors can use. His Blood Fines would allow him to copy all melee techniques as he did with Force Gun. And I am sure he didn't copy his companions abilities. Besides the Delvishu is genetic not something that can be copied. My previous theory about the Delvishu would explain it. He is a warrior type not a magician. I think his internal struggle and his own 'weak' mind causes the power to go out of control and thus manifest as Delvishu.

Yeah, that's indeed the most natural interpretation at this point. The evil snake Diha could have separated Felicia's old and recent memories (personalities) into two different individuals, resulting in the ancient devil people originally knew and a thoroughly incompetent doofus with pretty much nothing going for her (the dancer). Unless it was Felicia herself who did it, after getting beaten by Diha, to save her own good part for a possible redemption in the future.

I'm getting more satisfied with Felix of late. I'm actually enjoying his rude personality. Perhaps because it's different from the usual shounen goody two-shoes heroes. I guess the Koreans are easier to count on in this matter than the Japanese.

This wasn't such a jolly volume. Felix spent too much time mouth open amazed and too little time angrily staring at people and being all intimidating. I guess he couldn't help it in the present company, but nonetheless. I hope his determination won't waver overly much at any point. I didn't like how he needed encouragement from others, so I hope at least during fights he will still do his own thing and follow his own way, even if it meant extra trouble.

Well, I spent yesterday re-reading the first chapters and then catching up. Really enjoying this series, looking forward to more. I'd like to see more of Felix's brother though.

During a portion of the jump forward I was thinking that somehow Felix got merged with all the Knight Regis, but now I don't think that's the case.

They must have cut his balls during the boat trip. Poor chap. But there doesn't really seem to be anything left of how he was still a few chapters away. I don't see how he's going to reclaim the artifacts if he's being amazed to the point of having his mouth hanging open in front of a few monsters.
