Yuri is overflowing, not that ecchi though. It may be fun when they stop to artificially sweeten it and be a little sharper in the amusing parts, but that's a nice first ep.

You've got the lead character who is a yuri girl and dreams of having a love affair with another girl, the co-lead who is a guy who exactly looks like a girl and is dressed as such. They are in a girl only school.
I guess the setting is fairly simple no?

Then there's the way they present things, the colorfulness you experienced is said to be appealing to girls/women... or it's just a stereotype they used. That's the "too sweet" comment I made.

I really liked the art. It's SHAFT on Animation Production, so we get an odd cross between Hidamari Sketch (the trees and backgrounds), Pani Poni Dash! (character reactions and excessive detailing), and ef - a tale of memories (silhouettes and excessive detailing) with a little bit of Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei on the side.

Kanako's hardcore lesbian tendencies (that she's ashamed of when anyone calls them something less elegant) are off-the-charts exaggerated. That's the ecchi element to it. Replace Kanako with a boy and the reactions are pretty much the same. She sees the maid's underwear and she's pouring blood from her nose.

Combine that with all the 70s shoujo transforms Kanako has when she thinks about girls with the nasty banter between Mariya and Matsurika and you've got some good comedy.

This is very much a "SHAFT" series, with the same Director as Tsukiyomi Moon Phase, Pani Poni Dash, Zetsubo Sensei and Hidamari Sketch. I suspect that if you didn't like most of those series, you probably won't like the humor here. It doesn't have anything to do with appeal towards girls, this kind of series appeals to fans of those series. Quirky humor is the only word I can think of to describe it.

ahaaa... ok I admit I just skipped through the episode to see what it's like... I heard the "voice switch" in the later part but I just thought that the girl (who is actually a guy ~~) was only acting like a nice girl before and is really bossy in reality :/

I was waiting for this better version for gg, and finally watched the first episode. It was very peculiar and in a good way. The cast for sure looks quite small so far but perhaps it will grow. Other than that, I liked it. Weird characters aplenty is a good basis for comedy.

Gotta say Mariya's voice actor did some splendid work with those two voices...

Second ep, waiting for something less diluted. I guess they need to put in a lot of details now so that future humourous scenes work.

Most of the time I find it quite laborious, even if I occasionally smile or laugh.

In a way, the catalog of anime/manga lesbian characters was nice.

I'm used to some really weird shit from SHAFT series, but...W.T.F.

That one was delightfully over the top. Aside from the normal stuff that comes out of the plot, there were some really strange things going on in spare frames or off to the side. Kami-sama from Pani Poni Dash ("It's body temperature desu-nya" [offering a drink out of a vending machine]) sliding into the scenes from the side was disturbing, but not as messed up as the tied-up mummy doll hanging by a noose during Mariya's speech.

Aside from that and the really strange OP, I love Kanako's breathless rapidfire rants.

I'm definitely enjoying this series, but I have a feeling it will slowly make me schizophrenic.

I am seriously in love with the OP to this series.

The first half of this episode wasn't as good, but I really enjoyed Dorm Leader's (God) Inspections and "exams." She rules the dorm with an iron fist, but she invents rules or breaks her own on a completely random basis. The Virtual Boy exluded made absolutely zero sense, but I laughed.

The bag-thing has an appeal of its own, in its own strange way. Not a very girlish pet, but Kanako does have that mummy doll that Mariya turned into a secret switch. Maybe it will help her dispose of the bodies when Kanako completely loses it and kills Mariya.

Mariya is getting stranger, in terms of how much he likes to transvestive-cosplay while he's alone.

Yes, the OP is great. I'd have to say it's my favorite OP of the shows I'm currently watching. Luckily, both the OP and ED come out in two days.

I loved how all of Kanako's plans to get closer to Nanami failed. She even went as far as asking her to marry her. I found all of that to be pretty funny.

I didn't really care much for the rest of this episode. All of the stuff with God, felt tacked on and filler-ish. I can only hope that episode 6 moves the plot along a bit more.

Damn, I really enjoyed this episode. It was the best episode of the series to me, so far.

Poor Kanako, lying there not being able to do anything. This was probably her best chance to get her perve on and she had to miss out on it. Her reactions while listening to the girls change was priceless.

Everything makes sense now in regards to why Mariya, does what he does. I'm glad they finally explained why he was in a girls school.

Shizu's reactions when Mariya had her pinned were pretty funny, and I loved Kanako's "moe!" line when Shizu couldn't open the door.

Mariya is really evil, even if he somewhat cares for his sister. But doesn't it mean that if he's more than willing to give the chairmanship to his sister, there really isn't any point in him cross-dressing at Ame no Kisaki and he really enjoys the cross-dressing?

Haha. Good eyes! I paid no attention before you mentioned it. The second from right is Asuka from NGE, I think.

Anyway, the blood flowed a bit too much in this episode, in my opinion. It kind of started to repeat itself, although I suppose that was intented. What comes to Mariya I've no doubt he's enjoying crossdressing. He's too good at it, especially if what he said is true and he doesn't even have interest in the prize.

i like it. there's a lot of typical romance anime stuff in here, and the way it resembles Zetsubou in more ways than it differs from it isn't going to endear it to me much either, but i'm enjoying the three episodes i've watched. the main character's airheaded ramblings and inner monologues are actually somewhat humorous, and some of the jokes are just so random, but it's Shidou and his contrast between his absolute evil sadistic side and his gentle exterior front. also, ridiculously good work from the Voice Actress here, doing both the male and female voices with plenty of emotion and range.

i understand that it's hard to fill the whole thing with comedy, but the drama really isn't what i'm watching this for. i suppose they did have lots of fan service for the people interested in that...

i also liked the 'cliffhanger' at the end with Kanoko learning all 7 of the mysteries, but, well, this show almost always subverts the cliffhangers, turning them into something like 'Room 13 is filled with God's favorite stuff. that's it, nothing important, move along.' the cliffhangers in this show are sometimes a little heavy handed, and it's slightly annoying that they're always subverted at the end, but I do like the way they execute them

liked this episode because there really wasn't any "moral" or anything. Mariya was pretty brutal, and I enjoyed the Zetsubou-esque rant about not taking exams. Almost feel sorry for Mr. Berlin, but don't think we'll be seeing too much of him. probably for the best.

I liked this episode a lot. It saw the return of all those random moments/off shoots that the recent ones have been lacking. Story development-wise was lacking obviously, but I'm really just watching this for the lulz. Plot's simply a bonus here.

really a fun episode. I actually laughed out loud when God mentioned the Priest's fantasies about Mariya. Mariya and Matsurika were good as always with their whip-like comments. Kanako's gibberish was amusing too. I grew pretty tired of all the "boxed comments" myself.

What I think I really liked about this episode was that it was almost all from the Priest's point of view. Things were a little stale with Kanako narrating so much (although I'm sure the same would happen if they dosed us too heavily with the Priest...). It felt refreshing to have a new character and all of his absurdly over-thought internal monolouges.

The priest was almost as bad as Kanako in his overanalyzing idiocy. In that sense he certainly was fitting to be the main character of a single episode of this series.

The dormitory has one evil overseer, though. In fact I can't rememeber from the duration of the whole series anything nice she would have done. She's always doing some fell deeds, aside from obviously keeping the place clean since that's what she's usually doing. Suits perfectly a religious school, of course.

Loving this show, I was less into the priests delusions than Kanako since he doesn't have as many full blown yuri fantasies but I still found him fun to watch. I'm glad the mains we're used to weren't completely abandoned so I still got some laughs off of Kanako's misfortune (or more accurately stupidity since she knew she had homework). Matsurika is still one of my favorite deadpan snarkers of all time and Mariya's self-absorption shows no signs of ever abating. The dorm mistress is still as creepy as ever but I found it interesting that the priests internal thoughts about her mysteries mirrored my own and I would assume a fair portion of the audience as well.

Apparently there's only one more episode though which is quite a shame, I'm not much into comedy manga so unless there's a season 2 the fun times may be coming to an end for me.

I was almost wondering if they were making fun of the excessive notes that certain fansubers occasionally slap on. Especially because most of them were really obvious idioms regardless of what language they were in. They did mention GitS, but the issue has been coming up more frequently now that Japanese companies are subbing their own work.

Apparently there's only one more episode though which is quite a shame, I'm not much into comedy manga so unless there's a season 2 the fun times may be coming to an end for me.
Zetsubo had a sequel and even an OVA, so I don't think it is too much to hope for a sequel. I'm seriously going to miss the 8-bit versions of each episode in the unique ED sequences.

Poor, poor Kanako. She never got to participate in the earlier swim events and got hit by a wave of bad luck. At least she got what she wanted near the end. I'm kind of confused why Shizu was surprised at the pendant that Kanako got from Mariya. I know it's from their grandmother and that Mariya loved and respected her, but that's about it.

finally got around to watching this episode. a lot of rehash of gimmicks from previous episodes, but it was still good overall. i especially enjoyed the Mountain product substitution and dream sequence. some of Kanako's perverted yuri rants were damn funny. translated a doujin the other day of this series so i saw pretty quickly that it was Shizu and not Shidou at the swim meet.

all signs are certainly pointing toward more episodes (at some point). but it could very well be a tease. this entire show has had more teasers than you could count on both hands.

finally, aside from Shizu, I made up my mind that Sachi is the hottest girl in the show. (of course, Shizu is only because she looks so much like Shidou...)

So they did re-introduce the show, and then the continuation from forst season felt familiar.
I was smiling through the ep.

I was wondering how they were going to top the awesome OP from last season, and they actually did it. It's just so insane. Sugita Tomokazu ftw.

Also, I kept hearing Sawako-sensei's (K-ON) voice behind Kanako for the first minute or so, and then she went into raging lesbian mode and that completely evaporated.

The elaboratly stylized stills and 70s shoujo flashback shots are still present. I couldn't be happier with the sequel. I wondered if I wouldn't be able to remember the characters that well after so long, but this episode managed to reintroduce them surprisingly natural way.

I forgot about the other girls that were with them. I clearly remember the kendo girl though.

Why didn't she break out when Mariya was on top of her? Wasn't she allergic of men? Or is it indeed a purely physical allergy, and requires skin to skin contact? That doesn't make much sense though, since there are only minute differences in male and female skin which should not cause immediate reactions like she always has.

It's completely and utterly psychosomatic. Kanako is that hardcore of a lesbian (even if she isn't very good at getting girls). Mariya doesn't set her off because Kanako is dumb enough to see Mariya as a girl when she acts cutesy. Which Mariya does that at every possible opportunity because she knows she can toy with Kanako that way.

Can you remind me if there was an explanation why Kanako is so hentai-level gay? I don't remember if she was just like that from the start, or if there is some reason for it. I think this story will eventually end up in a romantic relationship between Mariya and Kanako, but that would be impossible if she was truly gay.

"Kanako has an inherent fear of men which began in elementary school when a piece of her recorder and her P.E. bloomers were stolen." She claimed in episode 1 that those incidents instilled deep emotional trauma.

She's really that psychotic. I agree that she will likely end up with Mariya in some screwed up way. They're both kind of perverts. One is an egotistical sadist and the other is easily tricked into being a masochist.

I will note that upon review, Mariya did give Kanako hives the first time they met, before Kanako had found out he was actually a boy.
