This series looked quite promising, though I didn't honestly beforehand know what to expect. Still, the director was involved in Samurai Champloo and Ergo Proxy, which definitely is good in my book. Anyway, this episode didn't yet fully convince me, but the main character (the older one) seems to have lots of attitude, at least. The younger one was pissing me off, though, despite the fact I liked Hugo's Les Miserables well enough (to which this episode owes a lot). I'll keep watching, for now that the misery in this background ep is finished, it could get really interesting, in a road movie fashion.

Those adoptive parents and siblings are so cruel, but that main character is one bad bitch. I wonder what her relationship to the girl is.

I was thinking she might really be her mom. She had her baby picture while she was making the call.

Just watched the first episode, awesome stuff so far.

I don't think she's the mother... I bet the real mother died and as a dying wish tasked Michiko to take care of her or something.

That could very well be the case unless they wanted to make a special ruthless point by having her not recognize her own daughter. Not too unrealistic a case but in fiction not so common perhaps.

well, I watched the first episode.

The opening reminded me a lot of cowboy bebops opening, which in stead of seeming cool, it just kinda came off as like "oh, they're just trying to make it seem like bebop because bebop is so popular", but nothing other than the opening was seemed that way.

I didn't know what to think of the Catholic South American family. At first I thought it was kinda Japanese people portraying South America in a poor sense, but after watching it more I just got the feeling they were trying to be negative to Catholics. I did really enjoy when she started punching the girl, but I don't get how she was able to go back home?

I thought Michiko's HD CGI lips were pretty funny. I noticed them like almost instantly and I was like "lol, those look funny." but if I didn't just focus on them, they seemed to look good on her. and I'm glad I didn't wait for an sd version, and went with the hd (not because of the lips though), just because it all looked so good, I'd hate to watch this series in sd. the animation was excellent.

now that they've established the grounds for the series, I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I didn't understand this either. The only thing I can think of is when she did go back, the family didn't say a word to her or try to put their hands on her because they knew the woman was coming. But the girl seemed distraught enough to leave permanently when she escaped in the first place. The family was lucky she stayed, at any rate, instead of trying to explain to super hot bad ass psycho bitch why they lost her daughter, or whatever relationship they have.

I think that maybe non of that happened... she never attacked her sister or anything. It was all in her head. Though we're led to believe that the only thing she was imagining was the dude that came to pick her up, but it might've been the whole sequence of events.

The sister seems quite fine and healthy on the table.

That was the most incompetent law enforcement I have ever seen. How does one person go in front of all those cops, guns drawn, and assault their superior officer? And no one tries to grab the kid out of there while Michiko was occupied?

Fuck it. I don't even care... she's just so hot.

Funny how a lot of the characters have Japanese first names, but leave the hispanic surnames in tact. Might as well used non-Japanese first names too. They can't all be half-Japanese or something.

Not hispanic, Latin.

Not all of South America was under spanish domination: Brazil is portuguese, not spanish ;)

I'm really liking this series though. Why the long gap between the episodes' release? (BTW, I think I read on BSS's site that the raw for the 3rd ep was released just as they uploaded the 2nd).

I'm good with my BSS :).

and I'd probably archive AonE if I re-downloaded it at all :\

I mean, ani-kraze is good. but look at what they did to the Last Exile opening.. they ruined one of the greatest (imo) anime openings. but still, I mean, I watch their subs. I get tons of shows from them. think I just got Otogizhoushi from them. even so, I think I'd consider aone a.. better choice for archiving? not that I re-download to archive.

Ani-Kraze will probably be the highest quality subs you can get. They're really slow, however, but that's to be expected.

Watched AonE's episode 2. It was a pretty decent episode, though like someone mentioned before me, the law enforcement team was pretty fail. Got some interesting ideas from the episode though... Michko could very well be Hana's mother, or at least related to her in some way. Seeing as the tattoo is of importance. Which also brings me to a part in episode 1 that no one seemed to mention yet: The guy that Hana imagined had come to pick her up... he had the tattoo on his shoulder. After watching this episode, I'm almost certain it's her father that she imagined (or, at least, who Michiko claimed was her father).

well, these were definitely two of the best episodes so far. Actually, so far the only episodes I haven't liked were 2 and 6. I didn't like 2 because of how the cops surrounded them, yet they got away so easily. and I didn't like 6 because of the ridiculous bull match. but other than those two, I'd say it's all been amazingly good.

I like that they brought the cops back here in 8, and then the whole street image that they displayed was so cool. I've been really interested in finding a hip-hop style/themed anime, and I think this is the closest thing yet.

I hate how Michiko kicked the crap out of all those guys, and then they ended up like breaking down and crying.. that disappointed me.

rofl, "your head looks like candy..". that guy was baked. It was funny to see Hatchin mistaken for a boy.

overall, I like the portrayal of urban South American culture. That's probably my favorite element of the anime.

I liked it precisely because of the ridiculous bull match. It was so out there, Hatchin with the ladle and everything, that I couldn't help but stare at it with my mouth hanging open.

This episode 10 showed again some amazing shooting skills of the cops. You'd think they won't get accepted to the force unless they absolutely cannot shoot. Even a three years old chimpanzee would shoot better. Otherwise it was one of the roughest episodes so far, no doubt. Hatchin wasn't present at all, though. I wonder how she's faring.

To anyone from BSS reading this,

DANIEL - male

DANIELA - female

The L letter (not the lesbian series or whatever), pronounced by the japanese, can sound like an R, so instead of sounding like "Danielle" (which would be closer to the real sound) it sounds like "Daniera", blah blah blah I'm sure you all know where this is going.

Great series, great fansubbing, just take care of that name, it's a bit silly to think of that guy as a lady (I first thought he could be a transexual, but... oh well).

And damn, that Michiko (Malandro) is hot, hot, hot. She has very nearly taken Misato's place in my heart.

well all the episodes are out.

I'm downloading the last two now, I'll definitely watch them as soon as they're done.

-
Just finished both.

Episode 21 could possibly be the best episode of the series. I didn't like all of the cops chasing michiko parts (though her riding on her giant bike thing was pretty awesome in this ep), where they shoot the dude, and then the stand off at the end. But the parts with Satoshi were so good. awman, his death scene was like.. wow.

actually, was ep 20 the one where he had the shoot out at the hotel? because I think that might have been my favorite episode. though it'd be close between these two.

I just really loved the entire atmosphere going through the whole thing. every scene seemed to really put off an awesome feel, and I absolutely loved it. The music definitely helped with that. this episode had such great music.

that was episode 21. as for episode 22, the first half was just kind of the same oh no there's cops but it doesn't matter because she'll just bust through and it'll be okay type of scene that we've had too much of in the series already.

it felt rushed when they went basically straight from running from the cops, to meeting Hiroshi, to saying good-bye, to getting on a plan. that all seemed too rushed from the build up we had for it. I mean, they've only chased after this guy through all of Brazil, and it only took 22 eps until they found him. and then it was over in a minute.

but after that, showing Hatchin's life, I really enjoyed that. I really didn't like the episode until it got to that, and I thought that was pretty good. I thought her after-story and continued life was super interesting, and then her eventual reuniting with Michiko was great.

all and all, this was one great series.

-
I gave it an 8/10.

I really enjoyed this anime. I loved the over-all atmosphere of the episodes, the geographical setting, the cities, the backgrounds and people, the heavy gang related story-line.

But, I think the one thing that sticks out, is the music through out the entire thing. I look back at episodes, and as I recall them, the first thing I remember are the scenes where the music kicked in, and it just added so much to make the episode great. The music for the series was fantastic, and it really made the show what it is.

I'd definitely recommend this series to anyone who might be interested.

woowowowow! I think I watched this all in one sitting, it was so amazing. I loved all of the characters, how headstrong they were, how they would stop at nothing to achieve what they wanted. Their histories and motivations were all super interesting, and I don't think I blinked for like 10 hours.

The beginning of this anime is super amazing, we see Hana in a horrid household, almost like a twisted Cinderella story, surviving hell with a quiet fierceness. Mitchiko is just all out hot and super confident and amazing, kicking anyone's ass who stands in her way. And we have 'Jumbo', who I can't help but feel for, due to her connections with Mitchiko from the past. That doesn't stop her though, it's amazing to see everyone clash with each other as well as conflict with themselves about it. As to why they went to hell and back to find Moreno (who at one point it's obvious he's just running away from them) I'll never understand, how it all developed is sad yet amazing at the same time. I found myself simultaneously touched and awed by the instances of altruism from people you'd least expect.

And then there's just moments of pure beauty, like the episode where Hana gets stalked by that amnesiac. I thought she would have went to go see him again. She should have!

I LOVED the character and costume designs. I could definitely feel a bit of Samurai Champloo in it, which makes me happy because I was depressed that there was no season two of that. In every episode there was something new to see. I even loved the blatant surrealism, I think it blended wonderfully with the series. I was so drawn into everyone's emotions and desires. It's obvious how deeply the characters feel in this show, and I get drawn into it and feel for them too. GREAT freaking anime.
