Based on a shounen manga by Yasuda Suzuhito serialised in Shounen Sirius.

夜桜四重奏 〜ヨザクラカルテット〜

Akina, Hime, Kotoha, and Ao are four members of the Hiizumi Seikatsu Soudan Jimusho (Hiizumi's Everyday-life Consultation Office), which, in addition to helping kindergarteners deal with tough times, strives to preserve the peace of their little town, Sakurashin, by hunting down the troublemakers who dare threaten it.

Hime is a superheroine. Ao can read minds. Kotoha can conjure up anything with the right word. And Akina…well, he's just a regular guy, surrounded by three supergirls! Together, they protect the town of Sakurashin. But that's not easy, as the town faces demon dogs and other supernatural threats!

Hm, the first episode was kinda random.

Feels like a less fleshed out Rental Magica.

Not an amazingly strong first episode, and the repeated announcement in the beginning annoyed me for some reason. I had to struggle not to drop the series during it... However, there were some cute girls, the guy in the middle of them wasn't powerless (I hate stories of powerless loser guys in the middle of powerful girls), and the fighting wasn't half-bad, so I might give it the benefit of doubt and check out the second ep as well.

At least it has a good subber now... >_>

Watched the first ep. Not sure how to feel about it. I liked it better than Rental Magic, but I didn't even make it through the first ep of that show. Gonna give it a chance.

I'm surprised there isn't an HD release of this show, seeing as how every other show is HD now. And widescreen. Those two drawbacks irked me while watching, but in the end I enjoyed it.

Like Kraco said, the first episode wasn't too amazing... just a way to showcase each main character and some of their abilities. The guy at the end interests me though, as in the opening you see him hugging on Ao (they seem to be related), but in the episode he seems quite villian-esque. Well, the difference is the glasses... I guess they could be two different characters...

EDIT: AniYoshi is subbing as well, and ep. 2 is out for those that want it.

Man that fucking human-hater youkai makes me want to choke a bitch.

She was somewhat cracked. But I guess torture can cause such things.

The second ep created some trust in me for this series. The first episode was pretty weak like I said, and while I still find a bit hard to like the characters, at least they revealed some interesting facts. I really like also Akina's situation ("just a regular guy"... Whoever wrote that Anidb description knows nothing about the story for sure). It could be in fact that Akina's situation is what will make me stick to this series.

The guy must live the life of a killer against his instincts (or feelings), accepting the disgust of quite a few youkai (let's just say people as he considers them such), and above all: alone. Sure, he has some hot chicks supporting him, but in the end he's the human killing the youkai and he has no colleagues. Under these circumstances - while I don't hope for them - I can even suffer through a few short emo scenes (assuming they progress the story).

I'm totally losing my comprehension of this series's plot. I'm sure there's even some psychological term for a condition where you are deadly afraid of and opposed to something yet feel compelled to do it nonetheless. However, I'm not familiar with that condition, and every fiber in my body objects a plot that makes the characters behave in such a manner.

I hope somebody kills Akina before this series ends. The dude has a youkai killing power yet didn't do anything during this episode, even though all his friends were in mortal danger. Excuse me, he did do somehing: He helped the dude who wants to destroy the city. Although I could forgive him if this is just some grand plot of his to get rid of the annoying boundary around the town and restructure things a bit. But if in the next episode he's just mumbling he didn't have a choice and he wanted to save the fucker stupid enough to give his body and powers over to the Enjin demon, or other such shit, I'll delete the episodes from my HD and never look back.

The good thing about this series is the dialouge, which flows so smoothly with each other. The character design is quite nice, but on the main character premesis, Akina and Shikabane Hime's main lead might get along quite well. Akina, like you said, almost let his friends die because he didn't do something a long time ago: "let go of old feelings." Gin is alive, and there might be some way of rescuing him, but the chances seem fat, unless the final episode does have some way of dictating the impossible.

Yeah, that's the basic problem of stories as formulaic as this. I'm sure they will somehow save both the city and Gin. This looks just like a series like that. It's kind of annoying to be able to take huge risks, and not only personal risks, to save one friend with slim chances, just because the story must end well.

I almost wish Enjin completele eradicates Gin's soul and the city gets destroyed as a direct result of Akina's foolishess in this episode. And he would need to watch all his friends get killed one by one. In the last scene of the last ep he would be sitting in the middle of ruins and broken bodies of former comrades, knowing he caused it all.

I can always dream...

Well, the entire series was very enjoyable, the dialouge being smooth and flowy. The character designs were unique as well, with many weird implications and aspects of different people. Akina finally had the courage to send his friend, who was pleading to be rescued, to the other world with Enjin, but his eariler replusions irked me a bit. Nevertheless, a good ending to a good series.

Nah, this series had some serious troubles. While I'm happy Akina sent Enjin away, what exactly was the point of all the hesitation going on for so long? It was certainly suggesting earlier he didn't want to do it because he was supposed to find a way to save Gin yet vanquish Enjin. But no, he just suddenly decided to use the same tuning method he should have used a long time ago, thus avoiding all the trouble the town had to face. So, it was zero development. Unless the development's point was to finally make Akina a man capable of killing friends...

I didn't see much of a point in the whole series also otherwise. It was just an odd collection of characters doing odd things. It didn't have even any romance. In fact I might have liked this series after all if Akina and Hime had kissed in the last scene!

I can only guess that the anime took a different turn from the manga, which is why the development is an issue. The hesitation is painful to send away someone that's close to you, but that's been cut short because we don't know anything more about Gin to even sympathize with him. We're only given so much information to feel sorry for a character who got absorbed by a random youkai, so I can't say much about the hesitation.

I'm surprised that the renegade Youkai that went with Enjin is still alive and being treated at the hospital. Wonder what will happen to him? :p

I had thought the beginning episodes were decent, but this just ended pretty atrociously. The last 6 episodes I skimmed through the episodes for major tidbits. And there wasn't many I'll tell you that.

I was very disappointed.

I was just about to start the series, but seeing the negative opinions upon the final episodes, I'll pass on this for the time being.

Didn't see a thread for the new OVAs, but I figured standard procedure would be to use this thread.

Anyone watching the new Yozakura QUartet OVAs? I just watched them (Only 2 episodes out so far), and they're incredible! Apparently they're much more truthful to the manga or something, but I don't really care about that. I can't really tell who is who or whats going on, or why that character can create metal objects and stuff, but the animation quality is so good! The OVAs are directed by Ryo-time, so a lot of attention is paid to the animation and artwork. You can practically enjoy these things for their animation alone.

Maybe I should have a look at them then. The series itself was hardly anything to tell your drinking buddies about.

Well, just began watching this. I wasn't planning on bothering with it, but it seems like the alternate version of 2013 was much better received, that I decided to at least power through the original version.

I'm 4 episodes in of the original, and not caring much for it. Episode 3 was a truly sad episode though, poor Silver.

I think the characters are fairly solid, fun and good interaction between them. None of them has really grabbed my interest though.

Anyways, will try to get through this and then watch the newer series:
