Visual novel

A visual novel developed by Guyzware and published by Namco Bandai Games based on Toradora! is playable on the PlayStation Portable, and was released on April 30, 2009. The player assumes the role of Ryūji Takasu where he moves around school and town, conversing with characters and working towards multiple endings as part of an original storyline. The game also features a minigame where players play as Taiga, fending off lovesick guys.

This sounds really fun. Anyone knows of a group subbing the game?

The ending of that game actually has Taiga pregnant.

Japan is at war against low reproduction rate, in a war, even children become soldiers... soldiers being child mothers here...

Yes I know, technically speaking, mother nature doesn't care about social age for first child... I do care though.

Correct me if Im wrong... I don't remember the ages of Taiga and Ryuuji... but was she not at least sixteen? Sixteen is the age of consent in Japan for a girl to marry... if she can marry she can have kids...

Just because it's legal it doesn't make it right O_o

By our standars... we agree on that.
By theirs... the Japanese love their young girls. LOL.

Maybe we should take this talk to the "Is Lolicon the same as Child Pornography?" thread lol

I remember she was 14 in the beginning of the show, so if she was in her late 14 she's probably 16 by the end of the show yes.

Nonetheless, I find it a bit young to have pregnancy. It's only my opinion, and I do not care that much for an anime character. Just that IRL I find it young

I used to use way too many smileys...

I wonder if this new episode will include that psp VN ending? It was endearing in a sort of fucked up way.

Old series, but you managed to watch this and enjoyed the heck out of it. I don't naturally gravitate to school comedy/drama shows, but I've been pleased with quite a few I've sampled (of course I wait to see how they're regarded in the first place).

From the last few posts, I see that many people hated Minori, which kinda disappointed me. I personally was a Minori shipper. I disliked that Taiga and Ryuuji were the ones that ended up together... I loved them both, but would've preferred if they had remained extremely good friends instead of ending up together. That said, I'm still pleased that they ended up together and it had a very satisfying ending for me.

All that's left if to watch the OVA.

Throughout the series I disliked how quite they were to soften/drop the whole delinquent act after the setup, would've preferred if it was milked for a few episodes more. That said, the couple girl-on-girl fights that we saw were fucking awesome and completely made up for it.

In all, can't complain much about what this series offered. Nice characters all around, fun at times, emotional at times, and gave a fucking full story with an actual ending. That makes it a winner in my book.

All hail the necro bumps!

And along the same lines: Itīs weird, because back then it was just one amongst many anime, but now Toradora kinda has become a classic. New anime really need to step it up.

Yeah, I kinda want to figure out more stories like this one with this level of quality. The only ones I can think of at the top of my head that I've enjoyed as much have been Kimagure Orange Road, Suzuka, Yahari Ore no Seishun LoveCome wa Machigatte Iru, ReLife. I'm sure I've encountered others, but having trouble thinking on them.

As mentioned in my previous post, it's not like I naturally gravitate to this shows as it is.

Iīve only seen ReLife of the ones you mentioned. Are the other ones really at Toradoraīs level? Might give some romcom anime a try then ;>

I think all of them are good. Kimagure Orange Road is a bit complicated to watch in that you need to find out the proper watch order. There are quite a few OVA episode that take place between specific episodes of the TV series, that info should be available somewhere. There's also the Movies and TV Specials to consider and what not.

If you watch it I recommend watching everything but the last sequel movie, read the manga (at last jumping in from where the anime left-off), and then watch the sequel Movie... I think in general that gives the best experience. But it has been a long ass time since I've watched this.

Suzuka is the one I least remember, but I really liked it from what I recall in particular since it had a track and field backdrop that even though is not the focus of the series, it gave me some of that sports anime I enjoy. It doesn't tell a FULL story though so have to continue it with the manga, something I should return to myself... might need to restart again since I've forgotten so much.

The other 2 are quite recent, so not much to say on those. We're waiting for more Yahari at this point since I think it's all caught up with the novels right now.

As for ReLife, it's getting a few more episodes next year or so... which I'm skeptical about since I don't know if they'll really give it a proper ending like they claim it would, but not sure how they'll cover the content. Regardless, it's been a good watch.

Just read the manga for Kimagure Orange Road imo. It holds up far better than the anime's somewhat dated art.

Also, keep in mind that Ayukawa Madoka is the tsundere. The entire archetype comes from her, and many tsunderes, including Taiga, are pale imitations of the depth, completeness, and realism that Ayukawa represents as a character.

Is your objection purely on the animation and art? If that's the case then I'd disagree only because I seem to recall him watching dated animes and enjoyed them. Nothing wrong with reading manga only though. That said, would you still recommend sequel movie after?

To clarify, she is the classic tsundere. The modern tsundere archetype is completely different from what the original term meant in the good ol' days.

I loved the oragne road manga.
are you sure about her being the prototype? it seems a bit weird to imagine there being a prototype for such a broad character archtype..

@Munsu: The anime and its OVAs and movies are fine, I just feel that the manga holds itself up better, as well as simply being easier to go through, since you don't have to worry about the release schedule at all. It's just a straight run through.

@Death Boo: That seems to be the consensus, she's the source of the archetype. That's not to say there aren't other contenders. Kitajima Maya from Glass Mask (and that one is from her perspective!), Otonashi Kyouko from Maison Ikkoku (though she fills a bit of a different niche imo), or Tendou Akane from Ranma.

I wouldn't call her a "prototype," since she's also one of the best examples of one that is more than a cardboard cutout of the "modern tsundere" and has some real humanity backing up her attitude. It's more that Madoka is very specifically that cold or brusque exterior hiding a very vulnerable and loving interior. There's a reason behind every way she acts, relatable and realistic.

It's not something the other three above share. Akane doesn't soften until well into the series, Kyouko is really just a fountain of jealously (more of a Narusegawa Naru type tsundere), and Maya doesn't really fit the mold because you see her personality develop from her perspective, not her love interest's.
