View Full Version : Trying to hook my PC to my TV

I got an adapter and I've been trying to connect my PC to my TV. When I go into the display settings, where the monitor 1 and 2 are, and check "extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" the screen flickers as it should, but when it comes back on the monitor 2 is still unattached and inactive. It's becoming a big pain in my ass.
My video card is an ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 for a laptop, Dell Inspiron 1501, running XP. I'm fairly certain this card supports dual-screen capability and I was just wondering why Windows won't keep the display setting when I try to apply it.

maybe you are trying to use a too high resolution for the tv? pal sd's go up 800x600

How about hooking the TV as the sole monitor to see if that works?
When it does, add in your original screen as monitor 2 and see if that config works.
Try DS's first though.

i was working w\ a dell latitude this past week trying to set up an external lcd...
simple stuff right? well, it worked at first just by going into the display settings and making it attached/extend desktop. But then the screen went black and from that point on it showed as un attached and when you made it attached it would immediately go back to unattached when you hit apply.
I couldn't figure out a way to correct this. Do you have a DVI connection on the computer and hdmi on the tv ?

The settings should at least be kept when I check the extend box, whether the image shows on my TV or not. The Monitor 2 stays greyed out even after I apply my settings.

That is precisely my problem. I don't have any DVI or HDMI connectors, I'm using a USB to RCA/S-Video cable.

Ugh c'mon itidakimasu, he said its an SDTV, sd tv's don't have HDMI or DVI, obviously -_-.
anyway, instead of extending the desktop try cloning it first, then change the settings and extend it, otherwise, download a little gem called Ultramon, and setup the second screen with that.

its laptop/notebook right? there was one key for setting display modes on laptop - try that one - the ones in my school won't recongize other software commands 'bout monitor setup if someone does not set this via button(it was Fn + some number i think). If it would be a normal pc i would help more but i don't know enough about laptops.

I would laugh if that was the case. Something so simple we all overlooked.
