Ajiyoshi Yoichi is a culinary prodigy who manages the eating house together with his mother. One day, Murata Genjiro appears in the eating house and is surprised at the delicious taste and delicate culinary skills of the katsu-don prepared by Youichi. Subsequently, Youichi is being invited to the Aji-oh Building in which he is involved in a spaghetti match with the in-house Italian chef, Marui. Youichi's novel culinary ideas, coupled with his enthusiasm of serving the best for his guests, allow him to defeat Marui in the match. From then on, Youichi begins to compete with other rivals in the race for the best tastes and dishes.

Nope, much older as you've seen.
The scenarii, humor, exgageration scenes and so one are pretty much alike.
It was funny back in the day to have a completly different anime.
That's what I remember from the french original run... in 1991 (old man talked)

Well I have vague memories of the show, but I wonder if it's still worth watching it after Yakitate Japan, which is also quite long.
In my mind, it would be some kind of redundancy, eventhough Ajikko is about dishes and yakitate about bread.

I'll check wether there's a good download for it.

I really like cooking shows, well cooking in general... so I'm going to try and watch this...

I'll give my impressions after I watch the first two episodes! :)

Nice another cooking show. I'm currently reading addicted to curry.. Having a new cooking anime is more than welcome.

Watched the first 2 eps. I think I did not watch them back in 1991... probably because I was not interrested in it at first... a 15 years old average guy watching a cooking anime when japanese anime wasn"t all the hype it is now...
The other reason is seasons were quite butchered in France for many animes...

back to the eps:
Old school feeling, of course, 1989 for the original run!
There even is some tearing in the picture, I wonder if it comes from the fact it was encoded from a VHS

The scenarii for eps pretty much features the same tricks you have in many shounen shows, Yakitate has this too.
Ep 1 was a short introduction, we'll discover later why the kid is so motivated.
I was interrested by the two step frying. It's really a basic idea but never thought of that one. Will try it for having pale breaded meat/fish

Ep2
Nothing really interresting, the walnut trick is a bit short.
There's no way you would not recognise such big walnut chunks in bolognese pasta...
It would be more difficult should walnuts be grinded, which was not the case. Even then the taste is pretty unique...


The main concern is with the fansub availability after ep5 if what was written in the middle of ep1 is correct: the translator stopped, so they have no one for this show as of yet.

Sometimes it's nice to have some flashbacks like that one (KOR and Maison Ikkoku were strong ones too)

That 3rd episode probably is the one that got the stronger impression on me.
I didn't think at the time a cooking anime could be interresting and appeal to a young male teen, however I was struck at how I was hooked and pleased.

Edit:
When I searched the web for Mr Ajikko I found the Iron Chef show.
It's a show where chefs are on a battle on a particular ingredient and theme.
300 eps, real life action, that's mind blowing. At least if you're interrested in cooking.

I think the guy at the base of the idea is damn rich and has built this project.
What an awesome idea when you love to eat fabulous dishes!
