Based on a light novel series by Arikawa Hiro, illustrated by Adabana Sukumo.

In the year 2019, the explosion of information and misinformation became a direct threat to society. In a daring decision, it was decided to create a new government agency dedicated solely to information management. Now some thirty years later, the government still monitors and controls information, suppressing anything they find undesirable, but standing against their abuses of power are the libraries, with their special agents called ‘the book soldiers.’

wow. that sounds like an extremely lunatic description. downloading!

EDIT: this might end up being one of my favourites this season! awesome animation, great characters, good comedy (will probably have pretty good action too based on the animation).

Going to watch all of them tonight. Though I'm a bit skeptical about this group, I hope they mistakenly typed divx... are these guys serious, DIVX??? Reading their website, they don't inspire confindence... this is a complete guess, but I bet they suck ass:

By the way, what group from episode 1 did you guys watch?

i liked the first episode quite a bit but it seems a little silly

"HEY YOU are you cutting a centerfold out of that mag YOUR UNDER ARREST"

"NO WAY I STAB YOU WITH MY KNIFE!!!"

"JUDO THROW"

like i said silly lol

I watched the first episode from Euthanasia. It wasn't that bad I guess, pretty standard.

edit: I like the abundant use of bold lines, they're kinda silly.

watched Osha's ep 2. translation is not bad the font is a bit small tho.

about the episode, it was good stuff and i'm still amazed at how an information conflict escalated into a full scale war!

EDIT: they stopped translated the introduction bubbles in ep 3 (considering they change all the time, its kind of lame).
aside of that, the episode was OK. the battle was a little underwhelming imo but this is only the third ep.

I just watched the first episode, and this shit is really really good. I really liked it. Fun characters, cool action... that's enough for me. It has a bit of the Pumpkin Scissors feeling and a bit of Nodame Cantabile. Will watch the next too as soon as I can.

Those of you who haven't checked it out already, hurry up and get it.

Ok guys, this is a good show and it's not getting the attention it deserves.

Yes, there is Library in the title but it's for emo book hugging pussies. Yes there's lot of talk about books, but you don't need a good IQ to watch the damn show.
There is some gunfights, barehanded combat, Nice art, bewbies, ...

Just watch the thing already.

This show is one of my favorites this season, including Code Geass and Macross Frontier. Lining this up with those shows should say something, I think.

is anyone really stopping at the "library" in the title? the next word is "war"! this basically should appeal to EVERYONE!

i wonder if there is going to be a larger story, or if it'll be like GITS.

I'm pretty sure that's what's happening, though that didn't stop people from watching Read or Die as far as I know, though I was quite skeptical before I started watching that one.

Kasahara and Dojo make a funny couple. As opposed to Pumpkin Scissors this series indeed has a much more plausible couple around, which is a good thing.

Thought Pumpkin Scissor has the far superior mood and setting so far.
I was kind of disappointed to how easily the triangle-conflict was cleared. "Oh, i wanted to date you to learn something from you"...erm, ok.
IŽd have preferred their couple, Dojo is such a clichee choice.
Well, im looking forward to how the missions get more serious.

The premise doesn't really sit well with me. I thought that the armies were military deterrents between the two factions -- building armies to prevent wars. That kind of thing. Everything became less rational when they introduced military offensives and death. I'm suppose to believe everything is hunky-dory in everyday life, but in the backyard there's a small civil war going on?

Kraco
Fri, 05-09-2008, 09:28 AM
You aren't supposed to believe. The premise makes no sense whatsoever: Two sanctioned government agencies at an open, armed war with each other in an otherwise peaceful country? However, the odd setting doesn't prevent them from making it a good show, and aside from the very background of the setting, it's not constantly forcing ridiculous things down your throat.

Everon
Fri, 05-09-2008, 01:50 PM
It is and it isn't -- forcing things down my throat.

I enjoy some of the writing, but its hard to follow along and have suspension of disbelief when it uses bad devices to move the plot forward. One of the emotional high points in the first episode involved a man attacking a soldier librarian over a nudy magazine. I kept thinking how stupid the situation was.

The show muddles between a decent comedy and pants-on-head stupid drama. I really like the normal conversations people have, but when it switches modes I lose all interest.

Darknodin
Sat, 05-10-2008, 01:51 AM
we haven't really seen how the general population is acting. but the situation could be similar to what you had in Northern Ireland (except that in Toshokan Sensou, the groups are sanctioned by the government... which i agree is weird. Actually what kind of sick president accepts two warring groups on his soil?)

It's actually very funny and somewhat ironic that i started watching this show right after i finished a government term paper about Censorship.

I get really mixed feelings watching this show. The one scene with that woman dying while she was giving a book to the commander, the thoughts going on in my head when i watching that scene is basically "laugh? frown? this is suppose to sad, yet it's so incredibly cheesy. WTF do i do in this situation?". I mean, this show is like a serious war drama over what could possibly be some of worst reasons for open conflicts.

But i digress, it's probably not a good idea to try and take the premise seriously. The actual content itself is pretty decent as long as they don't go into the overly dramatics cut scene where peoples sacrifice themselves for paperbacks.

Heh. I actually kept waiting till a few days ago when I finally gave up and watched the series till the end with Ocha subs. But nevertheless, it's good news and I'll rather burn Froth-Menclave. Especially since I have xvids from Ocha (due to stupid Baka-Updates only listing xvid).

This was a finy series, all in all.

Well, finally finished the series. Overall quite a fun series. To tell the truth, I was expecting it would be better and was also hoping it would be longer and maybe get more serious or violent as the series went on. But, it was a fun series with fun characters, and the little action it had was well animated I thought.

That's Froth-Bite's final release for anyone who cares. A new group was formed called Frostii... a combination of Ureshii and Froth-Bite.

Ureshii did licensed anime... and Froth-Bite had a hard policy against it, so I wonder how this group will behave.

Just noticed that a sequel or such movie was released for this series. It seems like it went vastly overlooked from sub groups and what not, Library War: The Wings of Revolution:
https://bakabt.me/torrent/180008/toshokan-sensou-kakumei-no-tsubasa-library-war-the-wings-of-revolution-bd-720p-lazy

Plot Summary: New legislation is passed into law, which gives the Media Betterment's forces more power and they start enforcing censorship of authors in addition to books. The Library Defense Force is approached by one such author and the LDF decides to protect him until the law can be appealed in court. Dojo and Kasahara's first date is rudely interrupted and they are put on protection detail. Meanwhile, Shibasaki plots behind the scene's to help muster support for the law's appeal.

If I understood things correctly, the tv series covered a few of the novels and this movie seems to cover the last novel from what I've gathered.

Anyways, I don't recall much details from this series, I just know that I enjoyed it and for some reason I've kept thinking of the title with fond memories through the years.

Has anyone watched the movie? Will be watching it this weekend, or earlier if I can manage it.

I've just watched this, and I like the two pairings (3 if you count deaf-girl-who-was-weirdly-not-deaf) and the way they were shown. The premise for this show is still ridiculous though. Legally allowing armed conflict under the one government was almost too difficult to overlook.
