We used to ask this question about fantasy/sci-fi duels, like who would win if an Imperial Star Destroyer battled the Battlestar Galactica, or Unicron vs the Death Star.

Who would win this fight?
Kurosaki Ichigo vs Ergo Proxy
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/88/1182803286ichigopr5.jpg VS http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z315/mozart_lvr/ergo%20proxy/46d9f16ad82fb.jpg

Please decide a winner and give reasons why, then pose your own fantasy fight scenario.

Have you seen EP? Vincent in proxy mode is pretty bad ass too, even without a sword and without any energy attacks.

What's your fantasy matchup?

Wow...good one...I'm gonna have to go with Mcguyver on this. Sure Jack Bower is super gritty and though and whatnot, but Mcguyver has powers. The last time I watched that show, I'm pretty sure he blew up the foundation of a building full of terrorists using nothing but floss and manure.

Megaman vs. Samus

Buffalobiian
Sun, 04-27-2008, 08:44 AM
Megaman. Highly customisable mega-armour and additional weapons would win. Correct me if I'm wrong, but at best, Samus only gets new guns, right?

Jet Li vs Jacky Chan

Jet Li: Chinese Martial Arts Championships champion - 15 Gold medals.

Jacky Chan: Slated no.2 of The Seven Little Fortunes, a group of top martial arts students of the China Drama Academy Peking Opera School in Hong Kong in the 1960s

Jet Li has speed and skill, but Jackie Chan seems more like a brawler and street fighter type. I'd still go with Jet Li because of his training and skill with martial arts and weapons, and he can do wire-fu better than anyone.

Which cop would you least like to have interrogate you, Detective Andy Sipowitz vs Detective Vic Mackey.

Munsu, simply because.

Utawarerumono VS. Strike Freedom

Animeniax
Sun, 04-27-2008, 11:36 PM
You could have said munsu because he's an admin and Assassin is just a lowly mod.

I think you're misunderstanding the point of the thread though. Strike Freedom is a Gundam mobile suit, while Utawarerumono is a series about feudal Japan. Did you mean to compare two anime series, or characters in the series? Because this thread is for comparing characters.

Which would rule the skies?

Airwolf vs Blue Thunder

Strike Freedom was a uber god mech. So I was comparing characters, my bad though, I didnt make er clear enough for those who haven't seen em.

Actually in that sense why not compare Strike Freedom to something that is also godly like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann for example. I'm pretty sure a galaxy size mech with the ability to break through space and time is a pretty decent match up for "uber god mech" strike freedom.

oh and fyi my vote is for TTGL since he'll destroy Strike Freedom and we can finally see a death that kira can't deus ex machina himself out of.

The stats according to the website called Den of Geeks:

Airwolf: 30 mm Cannon (×2), .50 BMG Chain gun (×4) firing up to 40 rounds per sec. AGM-12 Bullpup missiles (×2), AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles (×12), AIM-95 Agile missiles (×4), AGM-45 Shrike missiles, M712 Copperhead shells, FIM-43 Redeye missiles, AGM-65 Maverick missiles, AGM-114 Hellfire missiles.
Blue Thunder: 20mm electric cannon which can fire 4000 rounds of ammunition per minute

Airwolf:
· Acrobatics
· Hidden Weapons
· Turbo thrusters, giving a top speed of Mach 2
· Midair refuelling probe
· Sunburst anti-missile Flares (×10)
· Bullet-proof armoured fuselage
· Learning flight/combat computer
· Silent hover/flight mode
· Radar/Radio Jammer
· Helmet Targeting

Blue Thunder:
· Jet turbine engine with boost capability, enabling 360° loops
· Heat sensing infra-red filter for night vision
· Closed circuit TV-camera with a 100:1 zoom-lens
· ¾" code-numbered video-system; the tapes can be erased on signal
· Wide-band scanner
· "Whisper Mode" for silent flights
· Three TV-monitors. The centre monitor is connected to a vast array of data-banks
· Twin long-range, high-sensitivity shotgun microphones
· Cabin microphone; records cockpit conversations
· A Harrison helmet-mounted fire control/targeting system

A. Apparently Airwolf out-guns and out-features Blue thunder. So there you have it, Airwolf. Making me google crap I don't know about...why I oughtta...

Q. Spiderman vs. Batman. Keep in mind they both know about each other, and both had time to prepare.

Animeniax
Mon, 04-28-2008, 02:50 AM
I'd give the nod to Spider-man because he actually has super-human powers. Batman is skilled and has the technological advantage, but I've never agreed with DC making him compete with real super-heroes like Super-man and Green Lantern. I think Peter Parker is as intelligent as Bruce Wayne, just he does not have the financial resources of Wayne Industries. Of course he doesn't need them either, since he has the powers of a human-sized spider.

You can also look at their enemies to see who's more badass. Batman mostly fights psychotic criminals who also lack real super powers. Spider-man has to fight guys like Venom and Sandman who would give even Super-man a difficult time.

Which would you rather not have behind you in a high speed chase?

Saman vs. Eurasian ( yay girl fight :D )

Animeniax
Mon, 04-28-2008, 12:29 PM
The Mach 5 has twin rotary buzz saws that would ruin your day if it were chasing you. Neither car really has any offensive weapons besides the saws and KITT's laser beam. Jury's out on this one.

Saman vs Eurasian? Not enough to go on. Saman has the maturity and sweetness, but Eurasian has more sass and she's a smartass, which are endearing to us geeks. Since I'm Asian, I'd have to vote for Eurasian, who is Chinese. You know where I stand on Indians/Pakistanis calling themselves Asian.

United States vs. Russia... Cold War style!

Animeniax
Mon, 04-28-2008, 01:49 PM
Voltron (either one) is a couple hundred meters tall, like the size of Godzilla or any of the monsters that ravaged Tokyo. If you thought Megatron vs Optimus from the 2007 movie was a mismatch, Voltron vs Optimus would be a slaughter.

A better matchup would be Godzilla vs Voltron, or Megazord from Power Rangers vs Voltron.

The Borg sphere is a lot smaller compared to the Death Star, so I don't know that you should compare them. Maybe better to compare a Cube vs the Death Star, but even then the Cube is much smaller than the moon-sized Death Star.

The Borg sphere apparently can time travel and carries 10,000 borg drones and has phasers and disruptors. The Death Star can destroy entire planets (Alderaan).

From wiki, here are the specs for the Death Star:
The first Death Star has a crew of 265,675, as well as 52,276 gunners, 607,360 troops, 30,984 stormtroopers, 42,782 ship support staff, and 180,216 pilots and support crew. Its hangars contain assault shuttles, blastboats, Strike cruisers, land vehicles, support ships, and 7,293 TIE fighters. It is also protected by 10,000 turbolaser batteries, 2,600 ion cannons, and at least 768 tractor beam projectors. Various sources state the first Death Star has a diameter between 120 and 160 kilometers. There is a broader range of figures for the second Death Star's diameter, ranging from 160 to 900 kilometers.

So I think the Death Star wins.

Wed, 04-30-2008, 04:12 AM
Very true, but if Vader or the Emperor is on board the Death Star, the Borg are toast. Also, if the Death Star fires its main cannon at the Borg sphere or cube, the battle is over.

Unfortunately, the Death Star seems easy to destroy, as Luke Skywalker was able to accomplish this twice. I don't know if we've ever had the pleasure of seeing a Borg sphere or cube explode in flames.

edit: I also forgot that the Borg have shields, so unless the Imperial forces are smart enough to modulate their blasters, the Borg will assimilate every last one of them. Vader and the Emperor are still the deciding factors though, as nothing the Borg has can stop either one, if they happen to be on the Death Star when it gets attacked.

Ahh, good one Abdula! I'd vote for Stewie because he's an evil genius as a baby, so it's all upside as he grows older and more villainous. The Brain is an aging lab mouse, destined to live out his life in that cage. Plus, he relies too heavily on Pinky, which will be his downfall.

US vs Russia: US already won. But that's not really the kind of comparison meant for this thread either.

Les Stroud no question.

Because I can't think of anything better atm. Honeymooners or Flintstones?

Animeniax
Fri, 05-02-2008, 12:14 AM
While I don't know either survival guy, from their specs:

Bear Grylls, age 33
recovered from broken back
climbed Mt Everest at 23
former UK special forces SAS
kids named Jesse and Marmaduke

Les Stroud, age 45
20 yrs experience as a naturalist, outdoor adventurer, and survival instructor
trained survival expert
kids named Raylan and Logan

I'd say it's a tossup between experience (Stroud) and guts (Grylls).

What exactly did you want us to compare between the Honeymooners and the Flintstones? Which family is more obnoxious or dysfunctional?

For the heist matchup, the crew from Heat are brutal criminals who won't hesitate to kill anyone. They all have served hard time in federal prisons, and are career goons. The crew from Ocean's 13 are a bunch of pretty boys who probably don't even carry guns. They'd pee their pants if they ran into the crew from Heat. So to answer the challenge, I'd rather not have the crew from Heat heist by bank.

Too many variables in that matchup. If it was a stealth attack, the ninja would win, but the ninja would also have the advantage overall since he's not encumbered with armor and has no honor code to follow, plus they use all sorts of gadget weapons and tricks, whereas the samurai has armor, training, has to follow a code, and has retainers to support him.

McClane is an NYPD detective, Ryback is a former navy seal. McClane shot up and blew up the place to kill the badguys, Ryback beat the crap out of his opponents with martial arts, guns, bombs, and a knife. McClane fought against 13 eastern Euro long-haired thieves who spend most of their free time at the disco. Ryback went against a large group of professional mercenaries who were trying to steal nuclear weapons to sell on the black market. McClane's enemies took over a building with 2 security guards at the front entrance. Ryback's enemies took over an entire nuclear-equipped battleship full of military personnel. Hans (McClane's nemesis) was some guy, Strannix (Ryback's nemesis) is ex-CIA. And this was all just in their first movies.

And don't just choose one Rockmanj, explain succinctly why it is you made your choice

You've also got to factor in things like skill and training.

Misaka's strong, and Hei's electricity doesn't effect her, while I'm not sure if Hei is immune to electrical shocks himself.

Without specific environmental aspects to work with, it's hard to solidly argue how Hei would win, since as he said "anything you find can be a weapon". He's a killer who's survived a lot more than Misaka could imagine.

For one, Misaka's railgun has to hit. If memory serves correctly, she can't fire her railgun in an instant (think quickdraw), and takes a moment to prepare. A moment's all that's needed for Hei. As one of the previous episodes have shown, all Misaka has to do is fumble and she's lost the shot.

Seriously though, there must be a lot of iron sand in Academy city for her to use her ability like that.

Xelbair
Wed, 12-23-2009, 05:20 AM
Misaka would win - just let her shield herself with iron sand and then she would just explode it to the outside like shrapnel(similar to massive amount of low-powered railguns), or else she could just make so high voltage near her that if Hei would come in contact with it(does not matterwith what he would come in contact - the resistance that most things offer would be too low to block the voltage) he would just die.
Hei could only win if Misaka was not aware of his presence and/or hostility - he could just assassinate her.
