First episode of Nabari no Ou by Rumi:
http://tracker.anirena.com/download.php?id=5759

Based on a shounen manga by Kamatani Yuuki, serialised in GFantasy.

Rokujou Miharu was a seemly reluctant junior high student living in his own world. However, within him, lurked the ultimate power of Nabari, "Omnipotent". To possess such supreme weapon, the Wolf Pack of Iga swore to bring Miharu back to Iga village. On the other hand, Miharu’s English teacher, Kumohira sensei, and classmate, Kouichi, were the Banten ninjas whose mission was to protect Miharu. A war waged over the ownership of "Omnipotent" thus started. To survive, Miharu must enter the hidden world Nabari, to become the king.

I've read about 4 chapters of the manga, and I think this could develop into a fun series with some nice ninja action. There seems like a good joint is thinking of doing this series, Conclave and AonE.

I'll wait till the next episode until I decide whether I dislike the main character or not. His actively passive attitude is kind of annoying yet at the same time it produced some cool effects. Still, I'd hope he would change because it's annoying to watch a series where the main character can't do anything consciously. Maybe the chick who apparenly appears in the second episode will get the dude to join the club and start training. Although with some of the yaoi vibe scenes I wonder if a girl even is what Miharu needs...

I think the shounen-ai things are just him taking on the persona to make the others around him uncomfortable (at least I hope that's the case). But yeah, I don't like the main character how he's currently, but surely he shouln't stay that way throughout the series... it just means that he should have plenty of room to grow and develop. And with him getting into more trouble and learning the ninja ways, he should change.

At the least, the action scenes are quite entertaining... so that'll probably keep me watching.

The second ep by Rumi didn't look too good so I deem it necessary to switch to that collaboration effort at least for archiving purposes (as if I needed any special reason to switch to AonE-Conclave...).

Our very own AonE (with their Conclave collaborators) has toiled arduously to bring us the next ep:

Episode 3 - AonE-Conclave (http://www.gotwoot.net/torrents/%5BAonE_-_Conclave%5D_Nabari_no_Ou_-_03_%5Bx264%5D%5B1280x720%5D%5B10AF2DF2%5D.mp4.tor rent)

Edit: I wish Miharu would stay either completely indifferent or take things seriously like normal people. Now he's mostly indifferent, even when people die around him, but then he suddenly cracks and... does nothing but scream useless words. What the heck is that? It would be indefinitely cooler if he remained cool and indifferent but then suddenly crack and... kill everybody!

Well, I finally watched episode 3, and I don't know about you but I thought it was a real kick ass episode. Very action packed and the fights were well done in my opinion. Can't expect much from Miharu at the moment, it's too soon in the series for him to become cool motherfucker.

I don't know about you, but he'll never really become badass for me if the voice never changes. I have to say it kinda irks me how feminine it is, especially since it's the same female seiyuu that did Alphonse Elric's voice from FMA.

Munsu
Sat, 04-26-2008, 03:47 AM
The voice doesn't bother me at all just because he rarely talks in the series, but point taken on never becoming a badass.

Still, this episode surprised me... I didn't think this series would start killing people, much less the way some died in the last episode. I really enjoyed it.

If we thought the main character was carefree, take a look at the transforming guy. It's not like those five came a broke a table, they probably killed about a dozen ninjas, and all he has to say is "Oh, you messed up my yard."

I'll be sticking with this one, it looks pretty good. I'm starting to find those yaoi moments amusing now. Funny watching him turn others gay for a moment or two.

This one could definitely turn into a good show, if they make progress on the character side. Can't wait for the next ep atm. :)

I thought it was a boring episode myself, at least the early portion of it. But I really liked the final scenes when they pretty much made the war a free-for-all. It'll be cool to see all the different villages fighting each other.

I thought it was a good setup episode. Showed that in the World of Narabi, means is not an issue. Rokujou's team is bound to be less reckless though, at least at first. It'll be interesting watching the two clans race each other and see which village sides with which.

I just lolled at the Vampire Knight commercial at the end.

The return of Uchiha Itachi. Alright episode, I really liked the Fuuma-dono transformation fight.

Buffalobiian
Tue, 05-13-2008, 06:34 AM
I thought transformation techniques weren't combat orientated.

That is, until I saw this. Funnily enough, large as that dragon may have seemed, the walls and ceiling were intact. It looks to me like the Shinra Banshou's still inside of Miharu, and he can't use it's powers without going out of control.

Though Fuuma-dono can transform perfectly, he couldn't imitate Miharu's eyes. Not those eyes.

Kraco
Tue, 05-13-2008, 06:48 AM
Miharu needs to get out of control more. With all the never ending talk about Shinra Banshou we actually see far too little of it. Of course the getting out of control aspect is troublesome here with a main character like that: He probably wouldn't get out of control even if some 200kg ex-convict started to use his ass for his own purposes... Bloody robot guy.

Episode was good, IMO. Didn't really see these two characters interacting like that, despite their close interaction hinted every time in the OP. So does life force get regenerated, or does one have a finite amount that just gets depleted?

It certainly didn't sound like they were talking about the kind of life force you replenish by eating a hamburger when they are referring to the kira guy. So, I suppose he has a finite amount he's using with that secret technique. His body seems to be deteriorating fast in any case, so losing life force equals to taking physical damage. And based on what the dude said, you could assume Shinra Banshou might have a similar effect on Miharu's body should he learn to control it.

I liked this episode too. I like now the president's power isn't physically destructive, but is exceptionally useful, especially to a ninja. Having to delve her mind into others with the risk of being trapped in there, or at least hurt, is a nice feature to stop it being overpowering.

I wonder when Miharu says "As long as I have Shinra Banshou, I cannot die" means he'll start grasping it's powers, or whether he'll simply use it as a hostage against Yoite.

I enjoyed this episode quite a bit. Decent bit of action, but we still mainly focused on the minds of our characters, which I think will be the case for the entire series. Aizawa really showed everybody down this time. He's probably the least appealing of the ninjas we've seen. He uses evasive techniques and shurikens earlier on that gives us the idea that he's a skilled, but not really powerful shinobi.

Then you get this episode. He comes in and gets the job done in no time while almost everyone else has a mental breakdown, and resumes his cheery self right afterwards.

One thing came to mind, despite the hair colour, Oda might be the woman in the ED.

Why's that? judged by the comment it feels like they introduce new characters ever single episode...

that blonde girl reminded me of Eri-chan from School Rumble ^^
Is there also a love-story? for example the main character + that blonde girl o? Or is this 100% fighting

I finished it, and you might find the main character a bit uneasy because he's kind of emotionless. He does show them when the situation becomes critical, and when he befriends someone that seems very important to him.

Overall, the anime is decent, with a decent plot and a cast of colorful characters. The only drawback would be Thobari's sense of duty to keep secrets from Miharu. I feel that he should have at least let him know what happened in the past instead of not telling him all these years. The difference could have been staggering, but oh well...

well, I gave it a 6 on MAL :\

I started with Aone, and watched all the episodes they put out. But after it got licensed, but before they dropped it, I got impatient with waiting and got the last from.. some group I can't remember the name of.

As for the series, I absolutely loved the first episode. I think the first episode of it is like one of my all time favorite first episodes of a series. The ninjas in swat gear busting into the school and then having that fight, seemed so amazing to me. It was like what I've always wanted Naruto to be like.

unfortunately, I thought that the series started to go downhill around mid-series.. whenever that one fight at the school with the.. was it a healing jutsu? anyways, the prep school that they had a fight at. yeah, thats when I really started to lose interest.

however, at the (i think it was the.. second to last episode? that or the last). When.. not saying any names, but when two characters go at it, that like 15 second (maybe more.. I dunno, but it was short) fight scene was so awesome. I think it redeemed the series a lot. however pretty much every other fight in the thing they would just use this blurring technique to show speed (i guess?), and at first it was cool but it got so old, especially when all the fights were just two characters bashing kunais a couple times.

I would have to say that the reason I didn't really think it was great was because, after watching the first episode, I was really expecting it to be an awesome ninja action series. I was expecting awesome urban ninja fights. But the series is not focused on that at all. It's a plot-line, but the main focus of the series is on character interaction, and development. I can't really think of a simple one-word way of describing it.. but it is definitely not ninja focused.

As for complaints/drawbacks, I had a few. Thobari's whole "I'm a ninja but I'm not gonna kill anyone" mindset really brought too much of the "good guy vs bad guy" setting into which i was really expecting them to leave out after the talking in that one village at the beginning of the series. where the village head guy was like "well if they're raiding and stealing, we will too".

another was the white haired school-mate's immortality thing. when they brought that in I thought it was super dumb.

I never liked the main character from the start, and though I think Kugimiya did a fine job on the voice (I preferred it over her usual tsundere one), that's not enough to make me really like him.

so.. I guess I'd say the series was fine. Might recommend it to others, maybe. but it's definitely not anything like I was expecting, and in the end a major let down.

Killa-Eyez

So with expectations very low, it might be endurable? I also think I've probably seen worse anime...

Ok guys, thanks for the input. Will download. :D
