Well, I know this round was supposed to happen some months ago, but I stopped reading manga for a while, so I took a break from this. Aside from that, creating this threads take a bit of time and effort, and I wasn't in a mood to create it. Well, some months have passed, lets see if there's enough people around to keep this effort alive.
Alright here are the series we'll be voting on. The category is "Dark Dragon's Anime-Manga":
These are mangas about animes that were loyal to the manga content, but the whole manga content wasn't animated... the story continued in the manga. So even if you see that the manga has many volumes, if you watched the anime, you probably won't have to read it all. Click on the manga titles for more information.

A vote for Vulgar Ghost Daydream; I'm kind of curious about that last image you posted.
Taken out of context, the dialogue is pretty out there.

I'm very curious about that series myself... seems quite peculiar.
Edit below: That's what I was afraid off... that even with its uniqueness and peculiarities, it would just be dull and boring. But then again, seeing the main character in a bondage suit makes me curious.

I read VG Daydream, thought it was OK. It was your usual ecchi fanfare with a ghost twist. Got bored of it rather quick.
I vote Trigun, because I watched the anime and never knew the manga diverged/ is stilll ongoing.

i vote for the one with the picture of the scantily clad girl in the background, with the guy holding a gold medal in the foreground.
...oh wait, that your sig. *buh dum csh* :o
lol, no but seriously, i have a suggestion. it might be nice to have a brief summary of the mangas we're voting on, alongside the pictures. as it is, the only ones i'm inclined to vote for are trigun, because that's the only one i know anything about, and gto, because of the back cover you posted.

Well, if you're interested that's Shin Angyo Onshi... there's a movie and the manga is quite popular here; it's very good.
For a summary, the manga titles have a link to their mangaupdates page...click on it.

I've read TenTen from time to time, I have read GTO I don't know how many times, Rave I started to read, got kind of far and then switched to Fairy Tail instead (same author, liked it a lot more), and I openly despise Trigun.
I can't say I've even heard of VG Daydream, so out of pure curiosity, especially from that description, it gets my vote. Even if it's bland later on, I haven't had a decent ghost manga in a while.

As usual I'm happy with any but I've always wanted to read Tenjou Tenge so it gets my vote. I also realize there may be quite a few who have already read it.

I'll have to vote VG Daydream. Tenjoy Tenge might also be interesting, though, but I suppose I'll have to pick one, and in such a case I'm likely to pick one I have no idea about, thus granting more novel material. Rave sounded far too artificial. Like something pushed forcefully into a shounen mold.

Rave was actually a lot better than I ever thought it would be. I liked it for the same reason I like Fairy Tail so much. Rave takes the Shonen genre, and actually gives it a story. It's not just three or four major arcs (Flame of Recca) that run for 33 volumes, or pointless episodic fun (Ranma 1/2) or even random material inserted for seemingly no planned out reason, just to make the series run artificially longer, possibly forever in an effort to "ramp it up" (Naruto, any Oh! Great series).
Whole story arcs end in Rave, believe it or not. They rarely exceed a few volumes, and then they move on to the next plot line, location, and character development. Fairy Tail took that formula, and made it even better.
Short arcs equal good shonen, especially when they take a more serious tone.
However, for whatever reason, I didn't continue with it. Either I was beginning to catch up with the scans, or I simply found something more in line with what I wanted to read at the time. Probably the latter.

I vote for Tenjou Tenge. I've always wanted to read it and it would be fun to read it with everyone! So sad that they never kept going with the animated series, but my hopes are still up!

I vote Tenjou Tenge. Not that i will read it. I just don't have the time. But if by some chance i take the time to read any of those mangas it would definitely have to be Tenjou Tenge.
Unfortunately i still need to catch up to Hajime no Ippo and Hellsing that i keep pushing up. But if i would start reading any manga i think i would go with any of those two.
But like i said if i by any chance get the urge to start reading one of those it has to be Tenjou Tenge because non of the others look even remotely interesting.
EDIT: I just noticed the poll any if Tenjou Tenge wins i will force myself to start reading it.

Looks like Tenjou Tenge has a comfortable lead right now... i'll give it a couple of days more to see if anything changes, if it doesn't I'll close the poll prematurely and start reading TenTen.

Lets see I've read several of these already and I'm surprised at whats leading.
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka: 25 Volumes
I've read some of it but I never did get to finishing or even catching up with it. I would like to though so this got my vote.
Rave: 35 Volumes
I've read a lot of this and its actually fairly interesting a lot better then you would ever assume it is from a quick glance I'd recommend it but I've read enough of it that its not my choice.
Tenjou Tenge: 18+ Volumes
I liked the anime of this but found the manga suffers from the same problems. Essentially the flashbacks KILL this manga. Your reading along nicely and all of the sudden wham flashbacks for the next 10 chapters or more and they are only loosely related to the main plot I often found myself very bored during these flashbacks and by the time it got back to the main plot I forgot what was even happening. I found an identical issue in the manga where the main story was awesome and then it went into very lengthy and involved flashbacks that just destroyed the overall pace. Its still not a bad manga the main story is really very good but I can't say as I recommend it as a whole.
Trigun:17 Volumes
Can't say I'm terribly interested.
Vulgar Ghost Daydream: 10 Volumes
Never even heard of it I might take a look at some point if I'm bored.

Spot. on. I'm completely shocked that the series is in the lead. The series goes in one direction, stays in one place, and then goes totally in another direction that was never even hinted at in the vaguest of ways before. There was zero connection between the two storylines. They mentioned doing one thing and then it's 50 chapters later and they never came back to it.
But...you were wrong about one thing. It's not 10 or more chapter flashbacks. It's usually more like 20 to 30. Granted, they are entertaining, but by the time they end you have to go all the way back to figure out why they started.

Well the anime was quite popular here, so it is quite expected that many here would be interested in continuing the story. It has the hot chicks that the GW perv like, and some good action...

20 to 30 is likely much much more accurate I was being conservative as I didn't feel like checking and wasn't positive.

The main plot of the anime was great and I really enjoyed the main plot in it. In fact if you liked the anime with the massive nonsensical flashback in the middle your just as likely to enjoy the manga. I personally feel the manga would have been much stronger with a much much shorter flashback inserted into it and thats exactly how I feel about the manga.

Um... this is off topic a little, but do you guys think they are ever going to continue Tenjou Tenge animated? How many volumes are animated and how many aren't?

There's a new feature in mangaupdates that tells you this sort of information (when anime starts and finishes), though I don't know how accurate it is:

The main reason i chose this particular topic was to motivate peoples to read manga of anime that were generally good but suffered from a rushed or bad ending. A lot of these stories are great and deserve much better than the shitty anime ending that peoples will remember them by.
So hopefully you guys will try reading some of these even if they do not win. As for the vote, i decided on vulgar ghost day dream due to my immense (and somewhat bias) dislike for Oh Great! works. Between an annoying story that tries too hard to be cool or a somewhat bland story, i would have to go with the later.

Well from this list GTO is hands down awesome!!! anyway something I wanna read
Well, I'm most way through Tenjou Tenge anyway, so don't mind, but my other choice would be Vulgar Ghost Daydream.

Alright people, we have a tie on our hands right now... an unprecedented comeback.
But I have to say I like the participation this thread is getting, hopefully it'll carry over to the series discussion.
Myself am rooting for Tenjou Tenge... have wanted to read it, but haven't had the motivation to do it.

Seems like people are opting to read the manga's with fanservice and not much substance. I read the TT manga until it started going on like some 20-30 chapter history lesson that made absolutely no sense and just had random boobs in every chapter.
Munsu
Sun, 04-06-2008, 02:18 AM
It seems that way, but I think people preffer action... the fanservice is simply an added bonus, but indeed many here seem to enjoy these types of manga.
Anyways, we have a tie on our hands... we need more people to vote, so if you haven't yet please do so. There are only 3 more days left to vote.

I love everything about TT, but I mainly wanted to read the manga to see what happens after the flashback

So at Munsu's behest, I decided to vote for VGD, it seems like it could be interesting and its the only thing on the list that I haven't already read (atleast some of) and especially because I detest all things Tenjou Tenge.
Death BOO Z

by elmination, I'm going with VGD, the only manga I'd come close to without a stick in the list.
GTO: Started reading, got turned off by the shitty scans, and didn't really get the story.
Rave: seems too long (35 volumes? make me a torrent when it's complete).
Trigun: too complicated for my head, I've got the first 8 trigun max volumes in my room, but I still don't know what's going around. I much rather watch the anime again, (honestly, it's one of my favorites)
TJTG: let's not get into the subject, I've grown to hate even the anime, let alone the manga...
so VGD is all that's left
Munsu

VGD holds the lead right now, in a few hours the polls will close... will start a thread tomorrow on the series as soon as I can; assuming it wins.
