Anyone here following the manga, especially those watching the anime? The story has gotten quite good as of late.

For those of you haven't been reading or watching it, this is a series that you should surely check out, if you like shounen. Story starts slow and maybe a bit boring, but it really picks up so you get rewarded for keeping with it.

For those of you that are up to date with the fansubs, you should start reading from about volume 11 and on (chapters 96-105). There may be some slight changes, but nothing earth shattering.

You should be able to download up to volume 11 from here:
http://www.urakai.com/index.php?categoryid=20&p13_sectionid=5

The rest you can get from Minna-Scan and Franky-House (chapters 106+), you'll have to browse their forums for them:
http://minna-scan.net/forums/index.php
http://www.franky-house.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=33

Latest chapter released was 114 by Franky-House. Releases have been very frequent so if you decide to start reading, you should get a new chapter rather quickly.

Yoshimori Sumimura is a young Kekkaishi (barrier-master) who tries to rid the area of Karasumori of Ayakashi (demons); and it just so happens that this area is in the exact location where he goes to school now. Joining him in the purification of Karasumori is his childhood-friend (and secret crush) Tokine, who is the descendant of the Sumimuras' rival family.

Anyways, volume 12 and chapter 114 have been really good, so go check them out.

Told you chapters are being released quickly... so really no one reading this?

Well... I just caught up to chapter 144, I had stopped reading for a month or so. I thought the Kokuborou arc had a cool ending, though I'm not up-to-date with the anime currently so I don't know how it was handled there. The old dude that had faked his own death was pretty cool kicking the insect-dude's ass.

After that, I thought that the next couple of arcs were a bit weak... and that's probably why I took a break from it, but the latest current one has been great. We're seeing a ton of development from Karasumori and Yoshimori getting stronger... I wonder what will happen with Kurokabuto picking a fight against Karasumori.

Still up-to-date, Death13a?

Yes i am. Anime have last episode to be subbed; 51 was just released. And Yoshimori's zekkai heals ayakashi. It healed the one stabbed in eye and granted death to Kaguro. Just like Karasumori.

Edit: well from ep52 it was fox that healed Bakuyo but Kaguro died same way as those who wishes for death in Karasumori.

It also looked like Zekkai was absorbing something.

Anime ends at around chapter 120.

Yeah, I noticed... that's why I pointed it out since you would've missed it because the thread wouldn't have shown a new post.

Anyways, do tell when you catch up.

Well, I had stopped reading because groups had started to skip chapters and shit, and it pissed me off. So decided to catch back up, and man these groups have released a shitload of chapters... up to 256 at the moment. Took quite some effort to catch-up.

Any of you still reading? I think the series has been quite solid, and Masamori is quite an interesting character, so I like that they've spent quite some time developing him.

Anyways, Karasumori might just be experiencing its greatest threat yet at the moment, and Yoshimori is on the verge of becoming quite a powerhouse.

I wish 258 had a better raw, couldn't tell shit about the photograph at the end. Can I assume you're reading this series Abdula? Or am I still the only jackass talking to myself here?

More than just reading it, I love this series. I even watched the anime.

Yoshimori has really been annoying in recent chapters though. He is not acting like himself at all particularly in 259, hopefully he's gonna stop whining now and take some action. Or maybe he'll just watch Hiura get himself killed like he did with Gen. Either way, I'll be happy.

I really want to see the results of his training though, but if he can't get Hiura and the safety of everyone else off his mind he probably won't be able to use Musou.

I agree, I don't know what's wrong with Yoshimori and why he's suddenly so scared and acting like a coward. This was never him, and especially not now after he should've had a massive level-up. It really makes no sense why he's hesitating so much at the moment.

In order to reach higher levels of power he needs to blank out his mind. All that does is remind him of Souji and his alleged mass murders.

I just finished the anime yesterday.... I really liked it. I must read the manga now. I wonder if a new season will come. But wow, the manga atm is over 100 chapters from where the anime left off. Guess I'm in the same boat as animus with something good to read. :D

I really love this series but after reading it one chapter at a time over the last 2+ months I just feel liked I'm being constantly teased and it's never going to stop:(

I'm waiting for Yoshimori to start kicking some ass... not interested in what has been going on at the moment with the other characters. And the Masamori scene has been dragged out too long. Come on, let's have Yoshi kick some ass. Though it seems that starting with the next chapter he'll finally get involved, even if it's just to avoid another Gen situation.

They are really milking the expectation of Yoshimori's new mode. Everyone reads the chapter expecting it will come out, only to be disappointed and teased. This has been going for many chapters now.

I sure hope he is monstrously different in that mode. Otherwise, the wait won't be worth it.

Monstrously different indeed. Yoshimori's landlord looks absolutely awesome. Definitely worlds better than the fish his brother has.

Here's 268:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4W1BKACK

The landlords was really good, though with all the buildup it was kinda of a letdown. Not the landlord, but I expected to see Yoshimori kicking more ass rather than simply standing in one place with doing same old kekkaishis, just reinforced. Other than that, good chapters. Now let's finish up this arc, and move on to the next.

Up to 276 at the moment:
http://www.onemanga.com/Kekkaishi/
http://mangashare.com/manga/Kekkaishi

If you're looking to catch up, I think now would be a prettty good time. Yoshimori is finally becoming a bit of a badass and kicking some ass. We also learn the real nature of Karasumori, though it has been hinted at quite a few times.

277 was a bit confusing particularly how the fight ended so abrubtly. I was waiting for Yoshimori to kick some real ass, but got cheated out of it. I wonder why Ougi came back though, doesn't make sense at the moment.

Abdula

Well I wouldn't say it was disappointing, it was definitely unexpected but I've come to expected the unexpected when it comes to this series. Half of the reason I love it so much is because I can never tell what the hell is going to happen next, which is rare, really rare. By definition shonen series are usually cliched and predictable.

I think Ougi is there to apologize. He seems to like Yoshimori and he has been trying to endear himself to Yoshimaru so apologizing now would be in character. Plus he did accidentally attack Sangou so he is probably going to try to explain himself and set the record straight. That's my guess anyway.

I think Abdula is right, apology is definitely in the works followed with a bit of concern. I think that Ougi is interested Yoshimaru and would like to know him alot better. His reasons can be many and quite cliche but i have really come to like this manga series....

Damn of the reasons I try not to read manga that isn't complete is that I can't stand waiting for the next issue and it never seems to be enough.

Same here, Kekkaishi is one of only about five or six series that fall into that category though. The other 2 or 3 dozen series I read are just to hold me over.

Looks like we're in the final stages of the series from what I can see.

I am up to date on this series. It does seem like we are on the final stretch. But I think there are about 25 or more chapters to go. There are a lot of things that can be done with what they have so far.

Kekkaishi is finally over, it was a good run. I felt the author could have done a better job wrapping things up though.

Wed, 04-20-2011, 01:27 PM
That was a horrible ending.

Yoshimori trained for 2 volumes, and didn't even fight a single battle. There was so much build up, but all we so was him creating stuff in a separate world. I wanted him to at least beat that wind shinigami guy.

The confession(?) deserves the question mark because it was so half-assed. It needed another chapter focused on the main character for the epilogue. Again, so much build up on the relationship between the two, and they just left it like that. This pair deserved a more concrete show of mutual affection.

Archangel
Wed, 04-20-2011, 01:31 PM
That was the whole point, Kekkai jutsu CAN be used for fighting but Yoshi used it for creation instead.

The confession was definitely half-assed, after all that subtle flirting they had going on for years i can't believe we didn't even got a kiss out of the whole thing.

That conclusion could have been achieved and impressed on the reader AFTER a few awesome battles. You don't need to deprive readers of great action just to make a point. Both could have been done without sacrifice.
