Well this is a new series that recently started in Japan, two chapters have been scanlated:

So far it looks very promising, with some cool characters for a shounen series. The fights look like they will be interesting and the plot seems good so far. So, I'd say it's worth a look for now... any of you checked it out by any chance?


Yoshina Ageha is a high school student who offers to help people with their problems for 10,000 yen. He'll take care of your stalkers, find your lost animal, whatever you want. One day when he's heading home, a nearby pay phone rings, and he picks it up. The only thing he hears however is his own voice echoing. After finding a mysterious card with the word 'Psyren' printed on it, his life suddenly changes as he is drawn into a crazy new world.

Story is progressig nicely, this last chapter had a bit of a Gantz feel to it. No one has checked this series out yet? I'm pretty sure most of you would enjoy it... it looks promising so far.

Well, finally decided to catch up to the latest release, chapter 13... anyone started reading this or any of you still following it?

I think it has been quite good so far, it has been setting up the story quite nicely and I think it'll get even better soon. The super powers being manifested seem interesting and the way it has been described, the ways it can manifest itself is limitless so we'll surely see some cool powers being used in the future.

I thought it was quite a nice chapter, and the chick at the end does look interesting, I wonder who she is and what her purpose is, especially with that breathing mask on and killing off those people.

Well, the eyes the character has makes me believe that it's a chick...

And yeah, I hope the idol dies, but I see him being around for a while... I think we'll have a couple of funny scenes with Ageha's sister and him.

Just figure I should let you guys know I'm following this too. Love the Gantz feel of this like you guys have mentioned and I wanted something similar to read since Gantz is well Gantz and the randomness is so annoying and I'm not into Deadman Wonderland. This last guy* should fill out the cast since the characters seem to be your standard shonen stuff, if anything thats the only problem I have with this manga so far, the characters are boring and generic but its too early to start nitpicking. Really interesting though and like NeoCybercoin, I too have a lot of questions.

Btw is it just me or are you guys just not observant because wasn't the guy*, yes it is a guy, that showed up in the end the same guy Asaga bumped into earlier and thats why they showed us the panel of Asaga recognizing him.Notice the same hair line and the little white patch in the center.Here (http://www.onemanga.com/Psyren/14/06/) and Here (http://www.onemanga.com/Psyren/16/19/)

The repeated refreshing of this thread sparked my interest and now I'm following Psyren also :P

It's a lot better than most of the other series' that I've tried starting recently, so I think it'll be a keeper. The introduction of psi really opens up a lot of possibilities about where this manga can go. The action scenes have also been refreshingly clear so far - it's easy to see what is happening unlike many other series out there.

Well, this was a slow chapter... but the end of it showed quite a bit of promise. Wonder what the Wired Mind Jack will do and how it does it.

Hmm I think she would just be brutal and pierce his head with it. I doubt there is another function for some that looks like a spear. But it is interesting to see that both of those guys already got ill. I think it has to do with the fact that alot of Psi has been released around them. I mean they got shot at with Psi Bursts, telepathy was used on them, Ageha did his unknown Psi thiny and Asaga his his dragon tail. I think all of that combined speeded up the progress.

....Now that actually sounds plausible O_o;

I don't think it's a physical spear, otherwise it'd be burst instead of trance. My guess is that it's either some sort of mind-reading ability or neutralizer / paralyzing ability if she hits her target.

Agreed and Neocybercoin your theory does indeed sound plausible. Although this chapter was a bit slow I must say the story seems to be developing alot faster than I thought it would.

Started reading this yesterday and am liking this so far.

There is so much potential for powers and limitless abilities with this Psi. It will be good once we start to see some of the power that comes from it.

The 'Tatsuo' guy gives me the feeling that he doesn't leave the world at all and instead just roams around in it. It should be possible to go from place to place from within the Psyren world, but each game has a specific end points in the area IF you want to leave but you could probably get to the next area if you liked without having to leave and then return. I get this idea from him being a sick person, and him coming back to the normal world might put him back in that state and now stays there because he has power.

Looking forward to more of this.

Hm, so if trance counters burst then it seems like we're going for a rock-scissors-paper approach. I don't see how Amamiya couldn't have just gone ahead and finished him after his 4th burst though, being tired out seems like a bad excuse to put the other characters into play.

Just read 19-24 and I'm gonna drop this, someone let me know if it ever gets any better because I can't take this right now. Its like they are trying to fit every single cliche shonen; plot device, character and theme into one series and really its just ridiculous.

Is there anyone still reading this? Bit of a redundant question since I know there must be a few people here still reading. Anyway I just read chapter 62 (http://www.onemanga.com/Psyren/62/01/) and I'm glad I stopped when I did, because catching up was really fun. I don't think I would have enjoyed those chapters as much if I'd read them one week at a time. Unfortunately now that I have caught up I don't have much of a choice.

Anyway like most of you guys have said this series really isn't anything ground breaking but its enjoyable, I really can't think of a more suitable adjective. Its really nice to be able to read a shonen series that knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything else, and one that is not trying to force some message down our throats.

I thought aliens were a given...? I don't know why, but I assumed that some outside factor was involved with this whole psychic thing when I was reading all 60 chapters in one go. Besides, should you really be drawing the line between what's plausible and not when there IS time travel, Armageddon, and human beings with ridiculously impossible powers?

Yeah I thought of the alien angle before too but I really hoped it wasn't going to go there. It has nothing to do with plausibility, I just don't like aliens. To be honest I can't think of a good reason why I feel that way, but I've hated the majority of series I've read that involved aliens so anytime aliens or extraterrestrials are mentioned I get uneasy.

They can call them monsters, or demons or even beings from a different dimension and it wouldn't bother me at all but mention aliens and its usually an automatic turnoff. And the way things are progressing it really doesn't look too promising.

That is probably because stories with aliens usually stereotype them too much, and they end up boring or uncool. I kind of agree with you regarding this latest development. This reminds me of Record of Fallen Vampire, but that still developed quite well so I'm still hopeful.

Well, if this story does turn from uber cool to lame, can we predict that Oboro will turn over to the enemy's side? That, in my opinion, would make the story lame as the plot has made it obvious that I shouldn't trust him.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that. They explicitly told us we can't trust Oboro so I think him joining the enemy's side now would be kind of pointless. It would be best if he stayed with Ageha and the others and just kept his neutral, self absorbed stance. He is obviously still in love with himself and fascinated by Ageha so I expect him to stick close to him.

It wouldn't be too bad if somewhere down the line, after things have developed a bit, he decided it's his destiny to rule the world or destroy it or whatever but I think its too soon for that. They're still really weak and he is still just a drifter, besides the enemies seem to have enough elitist asses as it is.

Name is Usui and in the first chapter he was chasing Ageha to get the card to Psyren.
Looks like his group survived the chaos and is actively hunting Nemisis Q. Guess that was their reason for trying to get a Psyren card in the fist chapter.

Since I'm sure they'll travel back in time once more, I think those "kids" can die some meaningless deaths in the future. I very much doubt that they'll be stuck in the future permanently at the moment, though with the team being separated who knows? Though we've seen some people that have been stuck in Psyren before, so it would be possible for the team to be split with some returning to the past for the time being.

Didn't think of it that way but you're absolutely right. Other than Nemesis Q's creator and the drifters themselves of course, everything else is completely meaningless.

The toxic dude is a troublesome opponent. But it looks like Ageha found a way to avoid breathing phosgene, so he developed a valuable skill for future use. Otherwise I don't think this dude can be that tough. He seemed to have been given quite a passive and boring mission by Amagi, which suggests he's not overly trusted.

The earlier text about his evolution seems to indicate that we'll see a new jutsu ability on the next chapter, but if you ask me his destructo disks would probably work well too since they absorb psy and generate speed that would probably work something like a fan

Again it's mentioned how Miroku and Ageha resemble each other. Not sure if it's just the author's way of bonding protagonist or antagonist or if there's something more to it. After all, time travel brings all sorts of crazy possibilities to the table.

I liked the large variety of characters, but it was a disappointment the mangaka didn't touch up on their backgrounds due to the constraint of time. There were many subplots that were introduced as well that have not been resolved.
