um... where the hell is sai? i looked back at chapter 364 recently and noticed that when narutos team meets at the spot of the explosion sai is missing. after that i flip through all the chapters after that and cant place him with the team. is he there and im not noticing? jiraiya did mention roots before leaving for the rain village, could the plot be thickening or im i just blind?

I can't believe that I haven't noticed it until this point but you are right sai is gone. Interesting!

Most likely Kishi got distracted, and forgot to pencil him in. It's not like he's had any lines of dialog since the arc he was introduced.

i dont think sai has a large fanbase like the other supporting chars (i.e. neji / rock lee)
maybe kishi will never mention him again due to his unpopularity? ha.
but i didn't dislike him though

I would agree with you if not for the fact that we we shown close ups of every other character on the mission except sai besides Naruto, Kakashi and Kiba are the only ones who have had any substantial dialog so far and Yamato and the others were still shown. Kishi has never dropped the ball and forgot to include any body before and the fact that its sai just makes his sudden disappearance all the more peculiar.

and not only is sai missing, but so are the nin dogs that accompanied him. hard to imagine they were all forgotten.

Wasn't Sai's mission suppose to only be for that Sasuke chase? They've returned and are now fighting Akatsuki. I don't see where Sai would fit in.
If anything, something will emerge within the Roots and then Sai will reappear either as part of the enemy or on Naruto's side.

sai was with the team when they left konoha. he was with them when kakashi assigned a nin hound to him on top of the roof.

Maybe he is out with the flu? Or going to the bathroom? I mean does it really matter. He isnt the best character anyhow.

its not that it matters, although i like the character. i just found it odd that he was missing, but it seems kishi just neglected him cause he was with them when they confronted tobi

Maybe Kishi just neglected to include him because they were showing reactionary shots and Sai doesn't elicit much reaction or emotion anyway. If that was the case then he really didn't need to include Shino either.

well i don't see how sai would help with his drawing jutsu against the sharingan and even more agaist three sharingans so in that part sai isn't needed so he was just left out just like when sasuke fought naruto in the valley of the end and there wasn't the bug guy in the team that was assigned to recover sasuke

Yeah but they explained that. Shino was on a mission with his father, which I know is a cop out for only using the other 4 guys, but atleast they didnt draw Shino in and then just make him disappear later. And who knows, maybe Sai did run in another direction to sneak up all ninja like on Tobi? We will have to wait and see.

eh I never liked Sai anyway. He didn't have much character, plus he seems to be a latent flaming homosexual (his shirt has no mid-section).

Just because you don't like him doesn't mean he doesn't have character and there is no evidence to support assuming he is gay whether he shows his midsection or not.
