Moyashimon - Tales of Agriculture

Summary: Tadayasu Sawaki has a unique ability. He can see and communicate with bacteria and other micro-organisms. His grandfather, interested in his Sawaki's talents decides to send him to an Agricultural University in Tokyo. Hijinks ensues.

Don't be fooled by the name, this is probably going to be the most unique show this season. Safe to say this is also the weirdest show I've seen, but I couldn't stop myself from smiling. The first episode got a very quirky and shocking humor behind it.

I enjoyed the opening very much. The CG bacteria was pretty (and I don't use this word often) "cute" and well made. The rest of the show was pretty good too....I'll keep watching.

the last 3 episodes were released by "kiki-delivers" ....whoever the hell that is.

They probally just ganked/edited the sub files that were distributed on the net a little while ago for the show....never the less the translation isn't that bad at all.

The Ending to this series.. is .. confusing to say the least, and I kinda wish it kept going... for some strange reason it was an interesting show that always had a way of making me laugh.

People often mention the "cute CG microbes" and how they are cute...yadda yadda.... I think what made the show enjoyable for me was that the "Cute CG Microbes" were always talking sh** about everyone around them, and in this respect the last few episodes didn't disappoint;the ending was just... abrupt.

I don't know shinta|hikari, it'll probably depend on this few episodes and their popularity. Its got a great sense of humor and a certain maturity as well (how everyone handled Kei's crossdressing), it'd be a shame if there wasn't.

BSS just released 7-11 in one big chunk, so you can replace those kiki and SEES subs. Some of the translations are a bit clearer now.

Yeah, that was certainly the most striking thing about this episode (season). Too bad they didn't stick to the same old style. The animation is still by the same studio, the director is the same, but the character designer changed (according to AniDB). I guess that was the decisive change.

Well, aside from that, I quite enjoyed this episode. It was heavily on the educating side, but I never minded that during the first season either; God knows I messed with bacteria and yeasts enough in the past to not feel out of anything. I hope Oikawa learns soon the secret. I'm starting to feel sorry for her. Though considering her cleanliness freak personality, I can't help but wonder what exactly she would think of such an ability.

It's not that bad. The images linked all over the place obviously pick the worst comparisons. Kawahama and Misato look exactly the same, only the former is a little taller than he used to be. Oikawa's pretty damn close too, just younger, but she has always looked younger than everyone else.

The only bad one is Muto, who barely resembles her old design. Everyone else in the cast is immediately recognizable.

What does matter is that their personalities are intact. Which they are.

Oikawa's "close", but not close enough. She had a normal-yet-classy feel to her. The current one's cookie-cut. The redeeming factors are that they act the same (as you said), and that they also sound the same. I'll just pretend I don't have my glasses on (and my eyes are worse than they are) or something.

I disagree with the normal-yet-classy description. Oikawa has always been the straight-character to the rest of the cast. She's amusingly normal and dull. Her quirk has always been to be contradictory.

- She's very (occasionally extremely) prying yet completely oblivious, usually satisfied with some random nothing tidbit and completely missing what she's almost always getting at (Tadayasu's ability).
- A germophobe, though enrolled in a microbe seminar that she's had numerous chances to leave from the first moment (she was recruited at random by Itsuki, to carry stuff).
- She's very straight-laced often getting uppity about underage drinking and other grey-area activities, yet she's the one who has had lesbian sex with Mutou (or at the very least strongly believes she had, they probably both fell asleep after getting too warm from the aphrodisiacs).

Oikawa is the utterly normal (read: dull), straight-laced character. She might seem classy, but that's just her hardliner "Obey the Rules of Society!" stance. One that she again contradicts with her very rapid acceptance of Yuuki's crossdressing, and subsequent "fact"-spewing that Yuuki and Tadayasu are a couple.


Even with her substantially altered appearance, Mutou is still a "beauty in vain" type of character, as evidenced by the scene where they were steaming beans, and Mutou with her shirt half off, bra straps all exposed, totally uncaring about her appearance.

That's the Mutou I know and love.

Focus on the story? I never took this as an especially story heavy show. In fact the character designs are more meaningful than in any moe show; at least as long as you aren't talking about humans! Har har.

I wonder if Oikawa learning the big secret will be the climax of the season. Now they even came up with another secret to postpone the first one. Sawaki's lethargy is pretty amusing, even if practically speaking it's a big waste considering how far he could go with a unique skill like that. Still, it's very human for the person himself to be largely indifferent about it. Thinking about that, I imagine Oikawa would be the kind of personality who would be annoyed by Sawaki not putting the skill to full use. Hasegawa is also like that, but she has bigger worries of her own.

Maybe the "plot" is a bit lacking so far...but I learned an awful lot this episode. Isn't that a large part of what this series has always been about?

The discussion on alcohol->vinegar process largely taking care of itself was very enlightening. Itsuki used a masonry trowel to apply and distribute them without disturbing the surface too much, quite clever. That explains why my cider went so bad so fast (lasted a few months at best, even in the fridge).

If you shake it up regularly, your unpasteurized alcohols will last longer.

This show is surely purposefully avoiding any sort of excitement. But of course it was my own mistake to expect such. I'm not saying I wouldn't be enjoying this, but it's kind of annoying how they first build the plot toward a bit higher ground, but then it turns out to be nothing major. I guess it suits the kind of low-key drama that has been the foundation since the beginning, but it also prevents from thinking (despite what I said about my particular expectations) that anything overly fancy will happen during this second season. The first one was better in that respect. Oh, well, it's been only four eps so far. There's plenty more too see and a lot can yet happen.

Look at the hand. Black nail polish on long nails. That's without doubt Haruka and very likely Tadayasu. It's a vague reference to the end of the last season, when the Professor was outright challenging Haruka to go for Tadayasu (without naming names, but he knew for sure where her affections lean).

Well...it could be Yuuki.

The sweater(s) resembles Kawahama's though, but that would be a really out distant chance.

The weirder aspect of Sawaki's ability isn't that he can see cartoonish, anthropomorphized versions of microbes, but that all the microbes know he can. He got called out by ones isolated in test tubes, so the "word" shouldn't have gotten to them. Though, I guess his family's particular strain of A. Oryzae is a blabbermouth and tells all the other microbes.

Not necessarily romantic though, but it feels like they opened the door for another option for Haruka. Then again, Marie (and her unexplained Japanese fluency) feels like another option for Tadayasu, like Kei, but actually a woman. Or I could just be imagining it.

As Ryll said at the beginning, even if the designs changed the characters were as we remembered them from the previous season. After the change-over eps, it didn't really matter anymore.

So the message of this entire arc was to do what you want/can and not force yourself (be it marriage, climbing trees, brewing or figuring out where you belong).

Was that Haruka hinting at Misato when she said he's got nothing he'd want from her? The shot from the terrace (as well as Tadayasu being the one to speak to Haruka in the lab) suggests that he could be a major player as far as a Haruka-pairing's concerned.

Null pairings have actually happened in this show (quite the contrary), so it matters little if you are so specific. If we talk about fixing other relationships, then it's a whole other matter, of course. He and his ability have been quite essential in those events. But isn't it a tradition that a main character's special abilities are taken for granted and he won't score any extra points because of them? Otherwise he's kind of an energy saving dude of a mellow personality, so it's no wonder people aren't exactly flocking around him.
