I was a big fan of Far Cry, been playing that game with friends on lan over and over, so i've been eagerly following this game since i saw the first gameplay video of it at E3. This will be one of the main reasons why i'll buy myself a new computer.

Quoting some game info from EA's Crysis page

Crysis™ is a next-generation PC first-person shooter from Crytek, the award-winning developers of Far Cry. A stunning technical achievement, Crysis combines incredible visuals, cunning gameplay and an epic story that challenges gamers to adapt to survive.

Global tensions have reached boiling point as the U.S. and North Korea square off in the South China Sea. At stake: a mysterious artifact uncovered by a team of U.S. archeologists.

The North Korean government quickly seizes the area, prompting the U.S. to dispatch an elite team of Delta Force operatives on a rescue mission. During the siege the true nature of the artifact quickly emerges, pointing to the existence of an alien presence on Earth, and ultimately the trigger for a massive-scale alien invasion.

The battle to save Earth begins as the aliens’ flash freeze the tropics into a ghostly-white frozen landscape.

As gamers take up arms against the aliens, they will be outfitted with customisable weapons and a high tech nano-suit, allowing them to adapt their tactics and abilities to a hostile, ever-changing environment and a mysterious enemy.

Powered by CryENGINE 2™, Crysis delivers the ultimate DX10 gaming experience for the PC, including unparalleled graphics, special effects and artificial intelligence. The game is also scaleable to deliver a breath-taking FPS experience for older DX9 PCs.

And here's some gameplay videos of it

Here comes some pictures i just found, they've taken a real place as preference and recreated it with Cryengine 2.

Not too shabby if you're a graphics whore

Nice pictures. They remind me of this comparison thing they did with STALKER where they put it beside real pictures of Chernobyl. Everything was right on but the graphics were nowhere near as good as those seen in Crysis.

So who has played the demo so far? I have to say it was a pretty interesting hour. Although I was only playing it at medium settings. Apparently, XFire and SLI are not implemented in the demo so I could probably run it a little better if I were to get the retail version of the game.

Your thoughts? :p

Edit: Here is the link to the website with more links to get the demo.

I wouldn't waste your time getting the demo if you don't have a spankin decent computer to play it.

I find it pretty hilarious that you can enable most of the DX10 vista exclusive effects in xp for crysis. It even runs better on xp with the same features than on vista. Just by copy pasting one line into a config file... Lost almost 2k of points in 3dmark when i switched to vista from xp just for DX10, might even go back now.

finally bought it today to see what all the hype was about ... put to very high settings and not sure what FPS i was getting but it wasn't good and I have a pretty decent system, x2 6400+, 4gb ddr2-800, hd 3870 512mb gddr4...

I set it to high settings on all and it plays great at full resolution on my new 22'', now if I can stop getting pwn'd !!!

It plays pretty good but the guns i'm using have bad range, i'm shooting people from a distance up to 10 or more times and they just say ''taking fire'' and dont die.

*edit* got to some sort of compound and my frame-rate went way down... i really didn't expect a game to be this demanding even if people have been talking about it for months. stayed up until 1am last night playing it.
