First episode of Monster Princess by LC:
http://a.scarywater.net/sleepingforest/%5BLC%5DMonster_Princess_Ep1_%5Bx264_he-aac%5D%5Bcd86a3c6%5D.mkv.torrent

Not much information is available for this series at the moment. It's based on a manga called Princess Resurrection.

After receiving his sister’s letter of invitation, Hiyomi Hiro goes to the house indicated on the map, but finds it abandoned. Its gate is locked and the windows are boarded up. He has no choice but to go back to town on foot. There, he finds a cart loaded with a pile of furniture.

The person pulling the cart is a strange looking little girl in a maid costume, and at the top of the furniture pile, there sits a beautiful girl with long hair in a black one-piece dress. The cart is stuck in a ditch and will not move.

Then, an iron pillar of a building under construction falls. Hiro protects the girl but is crushed under the pillar. He is sent to a hospital, but there is nothing they can do for him and he passes away.

Suddenly, the girl appears in front of his body in the mortuary. She then says these strange words to Hiro: “This is a good body.”

The girl stands and holds her index finger up over his body. Then, fireballs gather around her finger. They drop onto the white cloth covering his face, and a heat haze appears around his body…

This group doesn't have a clue on how to fansub. The font choice is horrible and very hard to read, I'm going to wait for another release for now.

It was kinda odd. I don't know how to explain it, but the closest thing I can think of is it just feels like The Adam's Family or the Nightmare Before Christmas from the OP. And yea the font certainly does suck. I assume they chose it for aesthetic purposes to fit the monster masher theme or whatever.

Group called RNA released episode 1:

Hopefully they'll be better than LC.

Good thing I didn't waste bandwidth on LC's release, then. Anybody has any idea of the quality of Ribonucleic acid's release?

Well, I'll have to check this series out in any case because of Ayako Kawasumi having a main role, but with everything else being downloaded and with how much my isp hates torrents, I dislike wasting bandwith. But maybe it's my turn to experiment... I'll report back eventually unless someone faster does it before me.

Edit: I'm glad to announce RNA's version is not heading straight for Ribonucleases, but it was actually pretty good. I noticed no problems at all. The fonts were rather normal, if a bit small, and they had karaoke and all the usual jazz. My eyes aren't really any ultimate quality meter, likes Bud's, but I could even archive this version with no gripes.

Oh, what comes to the series itself, it was funny just like could be expected. Funny in a bizarre way. Well, when the main character is a zombie killed twice during the first episode (well, he wasn't yet a zombie when he died the first time), what else could you expect? I do see a danger this could turn dull if the script (manga) isn't careful with cliches and such, but if it keep going like this first episode, this could be a fine small series.

Also, when I watched this, I began to wonder if the anime scene in Japan nowadays always tries to cast Ayako Kawasumi only in blond roles or if it's just a grand coincidence...

RNA polymerases just got their transcription finished, and the subnucleotide is ready for distribution:

Well, it looks like RNA was as short-lived a group as their namesake in cells, so I had to decide to rely on LC, despite the less than promising descriptions of their efforts here.

While their subs aren't stellar by any measure, they aren't terrible either. Perfectly understandable at the very least, and there weren't anything that would have caught my attention so that it would have bothered me while watching the episodes. I wouldn't mind getting something else for archiving, but I'll burn these without a second thought if nothing else appears.

Anyway, the series itself continues pretty strong. It looks like there are new characters introduced in every episode, and they are quite interesting, some staying for the later episodes, some obviously sticking only for a while. Surprisingly enough Hiro hasn't kept dying so frequently anymore. I guess he's slowly learning how to evade the fatal blow (well, not really, he's just lucky). Another funny thing is the mansion getting repeatedly damaged or even burnt and then being rebuilt in the following episodes. It's a kind of nice characteristic for the series, along with Hiro's demises.

Up to episode 3, pretty decent. Is there going to be any relationships in this? I thought seemingly at first Hiro and the Hime would have something. But the Hime's personality just wouldn't be involved in that I'd guess.

Kraco
Mon, 06-04-2007, 01:41 AM
Yeah, it looks that way for sure. Hime is consistently aloof and considers Hiro but a servant, and furthermore spares no effort to keep Hiro remembering how his very life depends on him continuing to serve. I can't really see any deeper relationship developing between those two, which might be a good thing, because otherwise it would change Hime's personality quite drastically.

Well, the groups seem to be dropping (or disappearing) this series one after another, and when a new group shows up, the quality is slipping more and more down the slope. It's a pity, because while this series can't be said to be any great achievement of quality in terms of art, it's still quite a bit more original than most run-of-the-mill shows floating around with plenty of subbers.

These subs rather look like the effort of one evening, and while they are perfectly understandable, you can see quality wasn't what the author was aiming for. It would be a real grievance if these end up remaining the only subs for the rest of the series. I would really like to burn something else for my archives.

I do have a track record of not caring how dead the series threads are when I'm posting episode updates, so to keep faithful to my necromantic ways, here's a bunch of episode links:

Episode 13 - Anonymous (http://www.datorrents.com/download.asp?id=23215&name=%5BAnonymous%5D%20Kaibutsu%20Oujo%20-%2013%20%28h264%29%20%5BE6F4480C%5D.mkv.torrent)

This show continues pretty steadily. I can't say it would have really surprised me at any point since the beginning, but neither have I any feeling of being let down by it. Character development has been somewhat moderate, should I complain about something, but I guess this isn't really any development story - the main character being a zombie and all...

This show had loads of potential, but after going for 19 episodes, all it has managed to do is introduce new characters, and somehow NOT develop the main ones.

It's pretty boring, the animation's pretty sub-par. The series is now just a repetitive dribble of introduce new side-character/mini-villian connect it to that male Vampire, and have random new species of monster's come outta nowhere.

Well, unfortunately this version didn't impress me that much either. The font was annoying at least in the first ep. Maybe they changed it later on, remains to be seen. Otherwise it did look a bit more serious sub in the sense I got the feeling it was done by a real group and not by anonymous (I don't know if that's also a real group with just a name like that or if it is a temporal entity producing subs nobody else delivered).

I didn't immediately spot any gross spelling or things like that, which is a good thing but remembering how I'm pretty lenient here, it shouldn't convince you, Bud. The first ep Karaoke was also missing kanji/kana, presenting only English / romaji. Again, no idea yet if that's fixed in later eps. I doubt there's any huge difference in video quality. This show doesn't have very good video to begin with, after all.

I don't know yet if I'm going to replace Anonymous with these Genjo subs. This is no Claymore so I don't personally feel any great pressure to invest too much time and effort into redownloading particular subs for my archive. I'm kind of lazy in that sense.

The Princess has a damn six-shooter with silver bullets. Why doesn't she just tell him to learn how to use that instead of his lethal arsenal of brooms, his scrawny hands and his face.

Because he is a pussy, and quite incompetent at that. Would you hand a six shooter to that kind of guy? Unlike a broom, friendly fire from a gun is no joke.

Edit: A great episode. So far royals dying in that war of their has all talk, but this episode finally made a difference. And in a good way. It looks like there are all kinds of people in the flock of siblings, even if all are blond.

The very end with Hiro trying to steal a kiss from Hime was too funny. I never would have thought he could ever manage to gather enough guts for such a deed, and so it was even more surprising. Hime slapping him away was of course perfectly to be expected but still it was so natural and fitting for her character and the general theme of the series that it really made that scene perfect.

Right... I think that whole categories thing turned partially into a joke after they added a dozen new categories. It seems some people are labeling a bit less popular shows whatever as jokes there. And jokes they remain until someone eventually happens to check them and relabel.

Even though the show is terrible on a technical level, I can't help but love it.

Perhaps if they have a second season they might be able to use the budget on something other than the OP/ED...And maybe there'll be some blood this time.
