I'm starting to notice a trend in recent Hollywood movies...can't put my finger on it...

Ah well, perhaps we'll start seeing comic-book crossovers soon. That'd rock.

Robert Downey Jr. is a great cast... especially since he's alcoholic and will be able to relate to Stark's character.

While Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favourite actors, I can't help but feel that this is a little weird...

Tony Stark is supposed to be a tall, broad, muscular giant, well not a giant as such but I can't see Downey Jr. filling that role. Still, better than the supposed rumours of Tom Cruise taking the position. *shudder*

Don't know if he's suitable. I mean, Stark's a playboy eccentric billionaire.

i hear rumors that nicholas cage was considered for the role in the very early stages. think this was around when spiderman 1 was released. he would've been good as well i think......but only for the stark role. i couldn't see cage as iron man.

It's probably because I live in Canada....it's not the first time I've seen a message telling me I couldn't watch a video because I'm not located in the U.S.

It's not a big deal...still though, thanks for the link.

Remember the reason Robert Downy Jr is perfect for the role? He was an alcoholic too! It's actually pretty plausible that his Iron Man would be his own worst enemy in this movie.

I thought RDJ was a druggie, not an alcoholic. I'm glad people can get 5th and 6th chances when they've had it easy their entire lives and keep f*cking up  .

Marvel lists Tony Stark at 6'1" 225lbs. I don't think Downey Jr. quite stacks up, but he's not that far off, but I don't remember all that facial hair on Stark.

Kind sucks that the "hot chick" is Gwyneth Paltrow.

I hope they show War Machine in a sequel if they don't have him in the first movie.

I like how the teaser and concept art use a pretty heavily Ultimate Universe influenced version of the armor while the footage and props are of the first armor that Stark builds in captivity. Is the movie going to have an entirely separate storyarc besides him building the armor to save himself and escaping?

Does anyone else think the suit looks more plasticky/composite than metallic/iron? It also doesn't look as robotic-blocky as I'd imagined, more liquid-metal and like a suit of knight armor than in the comics, ie, it looks like it's a thousand pieces put together, rather than several large pieces. While it's more realistic, I don't like it compared to the early comic version. Still, the movie looks really good, from the geek side.

I was thinking the exact same thing. He doesn't look as big as the Iron Man I remember from the 80's through the early 90's (yes I know there were several different variations on the suit during that time frame).

Out of the comic scene. I stopped buying comic books 10 or so years ago. I know they wouldn't go with the "outdated" 90s look and it makes complete sense, I was just saying the design doesn't look like my mental image of Iron Man.

Found this trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYxUH5gSRso) on blogwars. The movie looks pretty promising. I doubt they'll leave this video up for long, so see it while it's up.

That would sort of be like Spider-man using his black costume in the first movie. Marvel.com lists Iron Man at 6'6" 425lbs. The one in the picture doesn't quite measure up.

I've also been out of the comics scene for a while. Still looking forward to this movie.

anyways, i just got outta the sneak peak for U.S theatres of the "summer hit" "iron man"

and i must say, allthough i don't believe this film to be the big blockbuster this summer, i must say i extremly enjoyed this film. my only complaint is that robert downy jr, even though doin a extremly AMAZING job, he still came off a lil bit flamboient *sp*....

movie was quiet good, enjoyable i do think this movie will be a good top grossing film, i just don't see it making any kind of amazing numbers like spiderman..although it very well could.

the funniest part about tonight was the guy sitting next to me literally in a praying on the balls of his toes in amazment over the film...i thought the guy was gonna cream his pants when he started to clap and screech with glee..he definatly enjoyed it.

if spiderman IMO is a 10/10...and the first hulk movie was like a 2/10...hulk being terrible.

id definatly give iron man a 9/10 as a definatly enjoyable film, the villian the plot the over all story was amazing minus the few original story plot/detail changes....

*SPOILERS*

I.E instead of the chinese wanting a nuke..its the iraqi's wanting super missles.

sangai
Wed, 04-30-2008, 12:35 AM
actually no, in the comics he's arrogant and a raging alcoholic...that struggles with his inner drug and booze addiction..

he is more of the mans man ..its just robert downy jr or maybe its how they cut his goatee, im not sure TBh..just there was subtle things that i can get over but he did a excellent job.

I saw it tonight, and I don't have much time to sit down and right out a huge review but I think it's probably the best Marvel movie so far, imo. Well, of all the recent movies the Marvel boom has produced in the last 5-10 years.

sangai

gotta agree with raven on that, at least in the aspect of how much it coincides with the actual comic.. minus it being the iraqis wanting super missles instead of nukers...oh well they did that to keep current. john favrea id a wonderful job directing this film, allthough spiderman being my favorite film so far, 1 and 2..iron man honestly comes in as the best done marvel movie to date.

Titanium Man wasn't a Soviet like he originally was in the comic, but the version here was just as interesting and equally as good. A little more up to date with corporate espionage and tying in a terrorist organization. For a while, I kept expecting the other scientist trapped with Stark to run off and steal the suit designs, since I didn't know where they wanted to take the adaptation (like the way they've altered X-men and Spiderman).

I doubt they could have possibly picked a better person to play Stark.

The end surprised me a bit though. I didn't expect a Civil War take on the Marvel Movie universes. Makes perfect sense, and fits very nicely.

sangai

well considering the fact that the artist for civil war did all the story boarding and alot of the illustrations for the film joe quasada i think he influenced the film alot..

I saw this over the weekend. I guess I must have paid too much attention to the hype surrounding it, because I expected it to be amazing, but I only thought it was "pretty good". There was definitely nothing wrong with it, and I really enjoyed Stark as a character, but I wasn't blown away.

I think my only small problem with the movie was that there were only a select few action scenes actually involving Iron Man. The fact that the whole movie dealt with Iron Man's "creation" made the movie feel somewhat contrived in my mind, as if they were never planning to go anywhere with it and merely use it as a "set-up" movie. The movie dealt so much with Stark as a character that the final battle with Obadiah actually seemed tacked on for the sake of it, rather than feeling like a climax to a story.

That said, I can't deny it was a really good movie. Robert Downey Jr. is such a likeable asshole and every bit of dialog was interesting. I'm glad they decided to go for character over action.

Yeah, I had read about Tony Stark being in the new Hulk movie, but I didn't realize they were going even farther than that.

I guess it was inevitable. Now that there's a handful of Marvel movies, it's no surprise that we'll start getting a handful of Marvel movie crossovers. It really is the natural progression for comic book fiction.

Great movie..really good performance by RDJ. And I liked how it was kind of a mixture of the "regular" iteration and the 'ultimate" one. Can't wait to see the sequel and War Machine!! Also, the Iron Monger looked kind of cool...kinda like i expected it to, but the funny thign was that it had a compartment that fit Tony's mini-ARC reactor perfectly...oh well, technical oversight, I guess.

Also, lol at the long ass S.H.I.E.L.D. acronym (hopefully we get to see the helicarrier in an upcoming movie.), and wondering about the hulk movie. It looks like he'll be more like the mainstream hulk, not the ultimate one, that is just a raging psycho. Look out for the Tony Stark cameo in that one...
