Not much information available on what the series is going to be about, but from the previews it seems like it'll be romance with a bit of action.

It's a collaboration project from the writer of Kanon and Da Capo.

Thanks for the link.

Doremi-Sola released a joint as well(though I'll probably stick with Lunar's version):

Doremi usually subs from Chinese translations, so I always try to avoid them.

Hmm... Based on the first episode this looks like it could be a vampire story (or just porphyric otherwise, but all things considered they were at least hinting strongly towards something unnatural). That, of course, suits me better than anything else. There are never too many vampire stories.

I still have a persistent problem of having hard time picturing Mamiko 'Yakumo Tsukamoto' Noto in any role involving any real action, though...

Hmm, is this a H-game adaptation? Usually they're quite weak, boring and filled with a bunch of meaningless fluff. Hm, I'll dl and see what's up.

FSN and Tsukihime were H-game adaptations. And if you call them weak, boring and filled with a bunch of meaningless fluff, well, all I can say our tastes must differ at least by 180 degrees.

From what I saw of this before the first episode I also thought it was going to be 'fluff', but I figured I'd check it out anyway. I'm glad I did, I can't wait to see what happens next. :D I'm not sure what else it could be but this really doesn't seem like your typical vampire anime; I'm hoping it turns out to be something more interesting. ;)

That's why I said usually in my post.

Edit: Watched it. Thought it was decent, nothing much happened until the end.

From the info threads at Lunar, this is written by the scenario writer for one of the Kanon's (the games I think). He left Key after finishing Kanon for something that was never published.

sola is not based off any game that I can find, h-game or otherwise.

Character designer from Da Capo and Canvas2 (sola's characters look a lot like the ones from Canvas2). Director is from Utawarerumono.

Let's hope the second ep will reveal a bit more of the nature of this show:

Episode 2 - Lunar (http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/%5BLunar%5D%20sola%20-%2002%20%5B95BAF50A%5D.avi.torrent)

Edit: It did answer some questions, at least technical ones, while any story related questions still remain largely unanswered (and may remain so till the end). Still, who knows, this could turn out to be a small mix of sadness and joy, like Iriya no Sora, and others like it. I wouldn't mind that.

God, Mana is so annoying. Get a clue, if someone doesn't want you there, or tells you nothing's wrong fuck off. She even goes off to search his house. The nerve.

Kraco
Sun, 04-22-2007, 05:40 PM
I guess there must be much history there. Probably she has used his house like a second home for herself, cooking and taking care of things. God knows such things probably don't happen in the real lfie, but in anime often enough. Considering that, it's not so out of the question for her to barge in and search the house. Obviously in the past the dude wouldn't have minded at all.

Well, nothing much certainly happened in this episode. Other than we all learned never to buy avocado ramen...

This show sucks.

That's all, and no fake accent / retard English this time. The characters are boring. Plot = old. I can't believe I wasted 48 minutes of pot watching two episodes of this garbage. There's got to be a billion new series coming out better than this one.

Episode 7 - Lunar (http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/%5BLunar%5D%20sola%20-%2007%20%5BA541B651%5D.avi.torrent)

Edit: Kind of hard to say anything definite about this series, even with half the series behind. One quite evident fact is there isn't anything strong in this series. The characters are quite indecisive and few of them have displayed any higher goals of their own. The story doesn't look like it would shed the past and concentrate on the present or future, even though there isn't anything that impressive in the past either. All in all, light stuff.

But I still watch this happily enough. At least there isn't much I would dislike. And with the kind of an ending episode 7 had, the series even presented its first cliffhanger...

Ho... If I said the name could be romanized as "Sora" instead, I bet the connection would be evident indeed. Yeah, in fact I didn't realise it before seeing the first episode, when it of course became more than obvious. Back when I saw the name for the first time, I was thinking it comes from some European language, or something.

Yeah. They are starting to annoy me as well, more and more. In the beginning it wasn't so bad, because my attention was diverted to other things, but now I don't know if there's a single character that doesn't bother me. Koyori would be cool otherwise, but it bothers me to no end how in Lunar's subs her own name is so often in her lines yet I can't hear it there but much more rarely. It has to be some Japanese grammatical structure that explains the discrepancy, alright, but still it unfathomably bothers me.

Oh god that was so stupid. How does seeing paper (though seemingly Origami paper) lead Mana to believe that it's Aono's paper. Because nobody else in Japan folds Origami, or happens to use that paper, right? Why does Mana think she has more authority over Yorito than Aono, her sister (though, she isn't really his sister)? After Matsuri scales a frickin tall tower, how does Takeshi a human get up there 3 seconds after her? Sure this is anime, and stuff's not supposed to be realistic but Takeshi doesn't have the ability to get up there so fast. I'm starting to think this anime is bad for my health, due to the fact that it induces me with fits of rage and confusion.

Its unfair to say that just because it is anime its supposed to be unrealistic. That line would mislead people into thinking anime is crappy. Its because it is some weird cross between supernatural action AND harem that it is going all nonsense right now.

The stuff you mentioned is actually no big deal, since it can at least be explained if you stretch stuff a little, such as the paper Mana saw being of a specific kind that few people use (including Aono of course), and Takeshi having some superhuman abilities, (he can maybe cover the same distance in 3-4 jumps) which is reasonable since he was able to hold his own against a monster that can jump that high without effort. Mana has always been the type of character who cannot mind her own business, like when Matsuri first came around and she went snooping.

All these things are excusable, but not because it is anime and unrealistic, but because overall Sola is a bad show. You know its a bad show if you are forced to stretch the facts and rationalize it the way I just did for it to make sense.

Koyori always says her name when speaking about herself, and never uses Japanese equivalents for I (though there are a lot). But Japanese language usually omits the subject of the sentence if it is obvious (and speaking about yourself is quite obvious), thus the disparity between the english sub and the voiced out Japanese lines.

Yorito, being a made existance was unexpected.. to me of course. I don't get the part where Matsuri said to vanish together. Does that mean they're gonna die together or something?

Kraco
Wed, 06-13-2007, 10:24 AM
Yorito's state was indeed a big surprise for me as well. No wonder Aono was able to control him so well. I guess this even redeems this series a bit in my mind, if only from the technical point of view. It's still no great entertainment for me, though.

I also missed the meaning of that line. I thought they were going to keep sitting on that bench, with Matsuri burnt away by the sun and Yoriko perishing some other way. But I guess that would have been a bit too straightforward!

Well, the last eps should be interesting, at least, if any such morbid ending is going to take place. Although with still three episodes left, a lot could happen.

Edit: A little confusing typo.

I think that Matsuri is going to use the sword that was supposed to kill her to kill herself, and Yorito in the process. Nice and sad, if only they did the entire series a bit better, this twist would have been great.

Kraco
Fri, 06-15-2007, 04:42 AM
How would Yorito die in the process? I think if Aono was killed, Yorito might perish. Unless you mean we'll be getting some ending like in Hero (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0299977/) here with Yorito and Matsuri...

shinta|hikari
Fri, 06-15-2007, 09:28 PM
I meant that to be as vague as possible, since I dont have solid guesses either. But if I had to make predictions, the sword may be able to destroy Yorito as well, since Matsuri asked how to use it. If she was just going to kill herself, she could have just, you know, go sun bathing.

kenren

So Matsuri will probably sacrifice herself for Yorito's sister to return her to human state using the sword..i missed the preview..though.

Fri, 06-22-2007, 03:26 AM
What a dick thing to do. Kill off your best friend so that you can live in the daytime? Worse off Yorito seems to have no problems with allowing the murder of his sister.

Maybe it'll be one of those 180 things where Matsuri lets Yorito's Sister use the sword...but thats not really a good plot direction either.

shinta|hikari
Fri, 06-22-2007, 04:33 AM
Err, I think Matsuri is going to use the sword to turn Yoritos sister back to human, sacrificing her own life in the process. With the sister back normal, Yorito, who was produced by supernatural means, will disappear. This was all hinted on by what Matsuri said about them disappearing together.

It indeed seems that way. And it would certainly be the best way to end it, for the story like you said. It'd actually be a pretty elegant ending and would redeem this series another step in my mind.

Episode 13 Final h264 - Lunar (http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/%5BLunar%5D%20sola%20-%2013%20FINAL%20%5Bx264%5D%5BB777C264%5D.mkv.torre nt)

I find it hard to evaluate this series. The beginning looked promising indeed, the middle made me dubious and then the end left me with highly mixed feelings. I have to say, foremost, that as such the ending is just the kind I appreciate: Fateful, kind of sad but in a good way. Well, in theory, at least it was. However, it was lacking something. When I think of a favorite type of an ending for a series I oft recall Elfen Lied and Tsukihime (and also FSN, but it wasn't so pure as a whole). They have a heavy impact when the fatefulness takes place. But somehow when Yorito and Matsuri vanished in this series I felt nothing. Nor did I sense the kind of sweet loss when Aono was left behind with the restored humanity.

This was like from a textbook, alright, but somehow it just didn't click for me. Maybe it's only because I never felt any sympathy whatsoever for Aono. And the rest of the cast just forgot everything about the characters as if they never were there, and that effect was played so succesfully you couldn't anymore consider they really lost something (if you don't know you've lost something, then it matters little whether you even had it in the first place or not).

I guess I'll write this down as a decent series but nothing extraordinary.

I'm somehow fine with how this show ended. Although Aono became human again..her age seems to remain..or rather, she can finally start growing and aging again.I like how the series shows the two cans of juice right before it ends. Well, this is it.. =|

A good ending, did they cast spells on mana and the others in older episodes? Or they just automatically forgot about yorito?

If i may feel any sympathy on any characters of this series it would be for Mana. Talk about one sided love. She even forgot who was Yorito. poor girl..
