- I choose to put "all those guys who are smaller and look more hot in a womanly way" as a single entity - I HATE YOU!!!

YOUR TURN!

Threads that pique my interest seem to be a common occurrence these days.

The List of 3

3 things I'm ashamed of

1) My apathy towards bettering myself and my overall lazy attitude.
2) My inability to convey my thoughts clearly.
3) Not being able to speak the languages of my background fluently.(This is probably one of the more prominent ones after Number 1)

3 things I'm proud of

1) My ability to empathize with the moods and thoughts of others.
2) My open mindedness.
3) My drive to help others.

3 things I want to do in 2007

1) Become more motivated, in turn discarding the apathy I have for myself. (The following two follow this train of thought)
2) Graduating with good enough grades so that I may enter my first choice university.
3) Become more fit.

3 things I couldn't survive without

1) My family.
2) Contact and communication with others.
3) Sleep.

3 people I envy

1) People who are artistically gifted, especially in music. More specifically those who play Violin and Piano. (In my opinion the two most graceful instruments known to man)
2) People who have found happiness in their lives.
3) People who have no fear of the judgment of others.

Writing this post was very refreshing for me. Thanks to Terra for starting such a therapeutic thread.

I'll play along...

ashamed:
- Never so much as touched the functional programming model.
- Made it through the project part of compilers largely on my partner's coattails.
- My inability to apply effort in a consistent way.

proud:
- I'm reasonably good at everything I've ever really put an effort into doing.
- I think, a lot, about a lot of things.
- I lot of the things I think about and get myself into are somewhere between esoteric and downright unique.

2k7:
- 270: another 10%
- Full-time job
- Learn more about the functional programming model. (why am I obsessed with learning LISP and yet unable to get myself to start??)

Necessities:
- Food (a man's gotta eat)
- Computing power (a geek's gotta code)
- The Internet
(actually I could live without computers and the internet, it would just be a lifestyle change for me ... I'd have to find myself something else to keep me intellectually engaged, and that would probably be books)

Envy:
- Happy couples
- People with personally fulfilling jobs that also pay well
- People who own boots (I'm somewhat trapped in my apartment right now, because I only have regular shoes and there's close to 2 feet of snow on the ground).

3 people I envy:
- A few of my friends...for various reasons
- Naturally good-looking guys
- People who are naturally intelligent and confident

I tend to be self-conscious with my hair
I was this close to listing this as well. I think I must have OCD when it comes to my hair sometimes.

Terracosmo
Wed, 02-14-2007, 05:30 AM
Hey, being councious about your hair is not a bad thing. In fact, the hair defines 75% or so of your attractivity! Have you never wondered why all the people with styled hair get the most action? Even people with ugly builds can attain success with a sexy haircut. Hair FTW!

Also I find it cool how many of you want your lives to be miserable (i.e finding a partner). Then again that might sound funny coming from me since I'm in a relationship but still I'M IN THE KNOWWW!!!

3 things I'm ashamed of
1. Same reason as Masa's third one. I'm also really shy and I can never really be open with people.
2. Letting people make fun of me. Perhaps it might have been my fault since I'm just too nice and can't find it in myself to make fun of/insult others, but I'm really tired with some people's immaturity.
3. Being indecisive and sometimes afraid to go through with what I decided on.

3 things I'm proud of
1. Hard worker (sometimes I can work too much but I don't generally see that as a bad thing).
2. ALWAYS helpful to others when they need it.
3. Although I did say I'm sick of people making fun of me, I am proud of the fact that I have a strong sense of self-control. I'll be honest, I've been made fun of by people for a very long time, for as long as I can remember. But I'm glad that I haven't gone into some kind of rage and start fighting people.

Miaka :-).

Three things I'm ashamed of:
1) How lazy I am.
2) How long its taking me to get to where all my peers are in life, if I ever get there at all.
3) How intelligent I think I am depite the two things I mentioned above (see how they're all related?)

Three things I'm proud of:
1) My intelligence (yeah yeah yeah, spare me...)
2) My dedication towards improving my martial arts and my music skills.
3) My patience.

Three things I want to accomplish in 2007:
Well, I can't list any particular goals. Right now, I'm doing things in life that have previously been set up to handle the the issues listed in my section o' shame. I'm not sure they can be met in 2k7, and I don't care to look at the subgoals (they depress me). However, I'd like to at least feel some noticeable progress this year.

People I envy:
1) People more accomplished than I am.
2) People smarter than I am (regardless of accomplishments).
3) People more talented than I am (regardless of accomplishments).

Three things I'm ashamed of:
1) I don't deal well with conflict
2) I care more than I should about other people's opinions
3) I am plagued by society's expectations of what it considers to be 'beautiful' and though I try to ignore it, often suffer poor self-image when I can't achieve it

Three things I'm proud of:
1) Surviving an undergrad engineering degree
2) My family. They rock, and I adore them.
3) My ability to bake delicious pies of many sorts.

Three things I want to accomplish in 2007:
1) Get accepted to grad school
2) Spend more time in prayer
3) Become more involved in my community and in volunteer work

Since I try my best not to envy people, I shall list....
Three people I look up to:
1) My grandma. One of the most amazing people I know.
2) Benjamin Lee Whorf (ok, so maybe he's dead, but he was a brilliant engineer-linguist!)
3) Jesus (might sound silly and cliche, but nonetheless true)

I admire all people who manage to ignore society's expectations on one's appearance. Because it sure as hell ain't easy to walk around and feel sexy when the walls are full of puppy-eyed men with iron abs.
