Apparently this is an adaption of a series of books, of the same title, by Jennifer Rowe (pseudonym Emily Rodda). According to Wikipedia she received many offers to produce a film of the books but agreed to the anime because they promised not to change the story. That said this summary from the book's website should be pretty accurate.

The evil Shadow Lord has been banished, but famine still stalks Deltora, and only monsters thrive. As the starving people weaken, Lief, Jasmine and Barda discover a terrible secret. The Enemy left the seeds of death behind him. Four vile creations of sorcery called the Four Sisters are hidden in the land. They are slowly killing it while the Shadow Lord gloats, awaiting his triumphant return. The companions must find the deadly Sisters and destroy them. Their only clue is a fragment of an ancient map. Their only hope of help lies with 7 unlikely allies - the last of Deltora's dragons.

Doesn't sound bad. Maybe a bit cliched, but then again, what isn't these days.

The last time I heard about shadowlords was in Ultima V. Nice to see they are still trying to thrive somewhere...

Maybe I'll check this one out, now that some interesting info was presented.

When picking up a new show first thing I do is look at the characters to see if there is anyone that looks cool enough to get me to watch. The girl with the (Raven?) looks cool. Gonna give this a try.

It isnt so bad. Kind of traditional RPG story, so if you dont mind that then it should be worth watching. The action doesnt seem to good though, and it probably wont impress anyone.

I have to correct my earlier statement about this being a bit cliched. Totally or completely would be far more accurate. The battle at the beginning was delightfully like an animated version of the beginning of the LOTR films. The symbol of the shadowlord was nicely combining the hand of Saruman and the eye of Sauron. The evil birds... Why not just call them fell beasts... Well, I suppose it's no use to list individual aspects borrowed from elsewhere... The list would become far too long.

Still, it was good enough to keep watching. Once you accept the truth there isn't a single original idea in this story, it all rolls quite nicely, at least as far as you can judge based on just one episode.

Deltora Quest Episode 2 from DATS
edit - DATS names the files in such a way that linking to their torrent file from a tracker doesn't work, least not here at Gotwoot. I needed to grab the link from their website, (updated Bud's initial post as well)

Deltora Quest_ Episode 2_ DATS_xvid format (http://dats.fobby.net/torrent.php?name=%5BDATS%5D%20Deltora%20Quest%20-%2002%20%5BXviD%5D%5B9FC867D3%5D.avi)

Just watched both these episodes and I think this show is actually pretty good. Sure it has that 'classic RPG' feel and story about it, but I still think it's worth watching. The animation is pretty fluid and the characters are all interesting, albeit classic archetypes.

There's alot of "borrowed" things from RPGs and fantasy books (the cloak and the girl raised in the forest being the latest...), but they're all pulled off nicely in this show. I haven't seen a 'Quest' type anime for awhile now. This will make a good second-tier anime for me to follow.

The quest to save Deltora continues!

seriously, is nobody watching this show? I know it's not the epitome of anime and there are alot of ripped-off things, but it's very rich and well put together for this kind of adventure genre.

then again, if nobody besides me is watching, i'll stop bumping this thing and just watch on my own... i won't be triple posting for the next release if it's not going to be of interest to anyone

I dunno... if it was a videogame, i'd like it... but as a show? well, i guess i'll wait a bit... i won't keep watching unless someone tells me it gets different in a while...

Time to catch up with the world of Deltora.......
Cheers,

PS : If you do download ACG Deltora fansubs be sure to go thank them in their english forum (http://acg.ro-anime.net/index.php?page=content/stiri) as they have not been recieving much support or thanks for their efforts.......

I been watching their releases since episode 4 I think. DATS or whatever group was fansubbing it, seems to have stopped at episode 3. ACG has gotten slow with Deltoria, which I enjoy watching very much. Wish they were more speedy with it instead of a release every 3 weeks. :P

Yup, a very good anime. I have no faults with it. Besides, all anime rip something off from one show or another. I see no faults in story or characters. :)
