This seems like it'll be a cool series to watch.

Yes, it does look interesting. And i've heard stuff about it too. Guess I'll just have to wait to find out.

GNU is a decent group if memory servers, although my memory isn't of the most trustworthy kind, but I always find dubious h264 encodes stuffed into an avi container. I'm feeling a slight urge to wait and see if a more orthodox release is going to appear.

My only problem with the GNU episode was the audio was rather quiet.

As for the episode itself, it was a typical pilot episode. It didn't really grab me, but I'll say I'm at least interested. They didn't really explain anything, but at least it gives us something to look forward to. After seeing it briefly in the OP, I would have been really disappointed if they didn't show Sumire going into berserker mode.

It's a goth loli show where the lead has an eyepatch. Kinda hard for me to not watch at least for a while.

First episode was somewhat acceptable. I mean... they just threw us against Virus from the very beginning, while I was expecting an introductory episode of how Sumire came to work with Ruchia. I guess that will be shown as flashback in several episodes.

Nevertheless, I'll keep watching just because the character design is good and the story has potential.

Sumire in berserk mode looks awesome.

I must agree with Ryl on this one. Gothish outfit, quasi-loli, eyepatch, even blue hair...this show is clearly stimulating my old Ryomou addiction in anticipation of Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny so I had to check it out. The missing words and other errors in the subs we're annoying but the story seems to have enough potential to be good.

Somehow I felt like I had seen this all before...

Well, I might keep watching this just because of Ruchia's different coloured eyes. That always intrigues me. Otherwise I was really surprised we didn't see any introduction whatsoever. Like RyougaZell I was expecting them to start by showing how Sumire joins the company, and thus I was somewhat disappointed with this manner of launch.

Hmmm...
Sumire is a normal girl who sees what others can't...
Ruchia comes into her life and gives her a mean to fight Virus, who are "dead people" who hunt the living.

Ichigo is a normal boy who sees what others can't
Rukia comes into his life and gives him a mean to fight Hollows, who are "dead people" who hunt the living.

Do I see a pattern? Even the name...

Need more?
Berselk Sumire... Hollow Ichigo.

LOL!!!
Still I'll check out new episodes just because, like I said before, I like the character design.

The whole thing is very boring to me, and I can't stand listening to the VAs. I don't think I'll give this series much of a chance.

Well, we've pretty much got the entire premise here in E1. I hope there's more substance.

The viruses are drooling perverts...

Episode 2 - GNU (http://tracker.anirena.com/download.php?id=290)

I think this episode was much better than the first one, for two reasons: It explained some history, and also it had generous amounts of Berserk Sumire. Yet still, this show has yet to really impress me.

It probably wont impress you ever. It is kind of mediocre, but not really bad in any major way. I hope they make berserk Sumire much much more scary, since right now, she doesnt seem like such a bad girl, or maybe im just weird.

I'm hoping for more berserk and different coloured eyes:

Episode 3 - GNU-Shinsen (http://tracker.anirena.com/download2.php?id=300)

I'm still not sure if this series is bad or not. A lot of it seems really mediocre, but the result of this episode was something different. There's not any "exorcism" in this series, it's a little darker than average.

At least this episode kept me interested for a while longer.

The next episode will finally tell how Lucia and Sumire met, according to the preview. It's certainly something I wanted to learn.

Episode 2 was interesting, showing insight about Berserk Sumire.
Episode 3 was somewhat predictable, but I think they managed it ok.

I hope Episode 4 is good... it will mark, for me, if its a good series or just a regular one. Still... I'll keep watching just to see more Berserk Sumire.

Whilst I fear nothing can save this series from regularity anymore, let's, for RyougaZell's sake, hope for the best!

LOL Kraco.
Yeah... episode 4 was so-so... not the way I was expecting it to 'begin'

Anyway... I just picked two shows this season, so I'll keep seeing it anyway.

But I hate GNU partenered with shinsen...

Well I've decided to watch it just for the shojou-ai tension, I've been missing that ever since the Third ended. Also Luchia's dual colored eyes are sexy and hopefully they'll get shown more.

You got that right! Too bad they are really saving those moments for special moments. While that is good in a way, I could watch them a little more without the effect losing any impact whatsoever. But I guess it's all connected to the power of the covered eye.

Anyway, like RyougaZell, I wasn't expecting the beginning to be like that, but on the other hand, I wasn't negatively surprised. It was pretty cool. Actually better than anything we have seen so far. Although I wish they had shown Sumire attack Lucia after her first transformation (and after killing first the hairy virus).

Well, at least we can now keep guessing how long it takes before Sumire's secret boyfriend is turned into a virus, who will surprise Sumire and give her some moral dilemmas.

Still waiting for this series to be awesome. E1 was pretty good, set up an interesting premise, and now we're waiting for the story to get going.

Yay, I almost forgot about this series. Despite the fact that the episodes don't feel too impressive on their own, the story progression has me intruiged. I have a feeling Sumire is going to be going through (and dishing out) a ton of punishment.

... I've been attracted by the name of this series, and have started checking it out. I grabbed all of those anime-rg releases...

I'm not sure what your definition of "better" is ... but ... this group's editor, translator and qc people all completely fail at concepts like natural language, tenses, and plural forms.

I don't know how GNU is, but I know I consider Shinsen to be a fairly mediocre group, in terms of quality. I have never seen them make the sort of blatant script fuckups that a-rg's first episode is loaded with. Comparing my average level of expectations to what a-rg brought to the table the first episode is like comparing a $8 pizza to overcooked cheap ramen missing the seasoning pouch. The pizza's not great, but it's not bad either. The unseasoned ramen ... is pretty bad.

Quality gripes aside, the first episode was a little disappointing. The viruses seem ... stupid and comically grotesque. They're fiends without a remaining shred of humanity, things that invoke neither interest nor empathy. Caricatures of villainy, if you will. And, as caricatures, they have some mild comedic value, but there's really not a lot of drama to be had there.

Maybe it'll improve over the course of the series, but it certainly starts out pretty poorly.

So far viruses have just been a means to give the main charachters a reason to interact. I think the story is going to be more about Sumire and Luchia and they're respective strange powers then the Viruses they fight.

Who cares about viruses? I just want to see Luchia's eyes; both of them in their full heterochromatic glory!

He knows you meant that. He said that a-rg is worse than Shinsen. So he wanted to know your definition of better. For him better is better quality, for you it seems that better simply means faster.

is Shinsen still using the full screen version? cause Anime-RG uses the widescreen version of this show.

Gnu-Shinsen episode 9 (http://tracker.anirena.com/download.php?id=532)

Pretty sure they're still using the fullscreen version. For completeness, here's the anime-rg's up to now:
Anime-RG episode 7 (http://tracker.anirena.com/download.php?id=462)
Anime-RG episode 8 (http://tracker.anirena.com/download.php?id=494)

Personally, I still contend that using a better raw and being a better group are two very different things. I'm going to stick with the group that clearly passed 9th grade English composition over the group that clearly didn't :p. On the other hand, the "speed > everything" argument seems to have sort of gone away, now that gnu-shs is a bit ahead of a-rg...

RyougaZell
Mon, 04-09-2007, 07:43 PM
Indeed.
In favor of keeping the subs from the same sub (and cause I prefer the widescreen) I'll keep with Anime-RG.

I was very dissapointed with Shinsen when they took so long to release .hack//ROOTS that the series got licensed so personally I really don't see me downloading from them.

Just watched the last four eps of this series (finally) and... I didn't understand anything...

To those that saw the full series... did Sumire 'die' leaving behind only her berserk persona? Did Lucia destroy herself to 'save' Sumire or did both die?

WTF?

Yukimura

Wow, I forgot about this so fast after the last ep I'm almost shocked at how I don't remember the final episode at all. I think I remember a happily ever after ending where both lived, not too sure about that though.
