I just did a review for this manga, Claymore, in the review thread:
http://forums.gotwoot.net/showthread.php?t=13670
I'm just wondering if anyone else reads it. As of late it has been the manga I'm looking forward to the most (well right after Shin Angyo Onshi). Last released volume was great, best one so far.
You can download the series in www.mangatraders.com This manga used to be scanlated by Inane till it got licensed, now it's being scanned by Manga-Sketchbook. I really think many of you will like it, especially with the good sword action. Give it a try.

Read the first volume of this title some time back, and I must say I find it rather intriguing.
However, I can't seem to shake this peculiar thought that keeps popping up in my head that calls this "Berserk Lite." Oh, and the author's round-head design gets disconcerting at times.

Finished volume 4, getting creepy Berserk parallel vibes in the way of the storyline structure. Yet, it feels so goooood...

Yea, been reading it and I also feel it's a lighter version of Berserk. The art's a little odd, since it's by the same author of Angel Densetsu I feel weird looking at it sometimes. Especially the Yokai designs.

Just finished reading this and I'm enjoying it, although, it pains me to get another manga I like and need to wait for.
As with what some people who said, it does remind me of a Berserk feel, mainly because of the era it's in, and killing and Yoma, etc.
Will be waiting for more releases, hopefully soon.

I just read all 6 volumes in a single night, loved it. The parallels with Berserk are pretty obvious, since the theme of both is the same, becoming a monster to slay monsters. I really liked the flashback with Theresa resulting in Clare's voluntary joining. Seeing Priscilla kill Theresa during a moment of mercy was particularly sad. Even though you kind of had to expect it, the abruptness of it is as shocking to the readers as it is to the characters. Now with the 4 "Slashers" all semi-awakened, we'll see a lot more Claymores trying to kill each other.
Ophelia is one evil bitch though. Can't wait for volume 7.
I think I might pick up the Viz copies of this. It's going to be a long wait until April though.

Well, just finished reading Volume 6, and I have to say that it was an awesome volume, just like the others.
Can't wait to see more of Ophelia, I really liked her character.
I've also been thinking, do you think that Raki will become a male Claymore? We've learned that they are capable of being made, so I thought it may be a possibility if things start to get too ugly for Clare and such. They're very unstable, but who knows, Raki is a main character so he'll probably be able to handle it. I know I would like to see it myself, don't want him to be a weakass character throughout the whole story. If not, he should really go through some rigorous training and become a very good fighter.

I think Raki is more of a conscience for Clare. His situation is almost identical to Clare's and Theresa, slowly humanizing her, and bringing her back from almost losing everything. He's meant as a scale in which to rate herself against, and how far she's deviated from being human. I don't really think anything will become of him. He'll probably train and become skilled with a sword at most, but I don't see him ever becoming anything more than human.
I would really like to see Clare fight more like Theresa. We know she really doesn't have the total power, but after he present semi-awakened state, I'd like to see her almost never use her yoma powers, like Theresa did.
I'd also like to see more of the other top 5 member, the one who could sense yoma power from really far away (I forgot her name already). She seemed to have a demeanor closer Theresa and Clare as of late.
The big mystery is what number 6 found out about the organization, and why it's so important that the Claymores never find out.

More than that Claymore, I'm more intrigue by the guy that was with her with his faced covered up. The one who's supposedly the parent of the Claymores or something.
I really like where this is heading. I want to see a good solid group of warriors get together and simply be the enemy of everyone... The Yoma, the Awakened Beings, and the organization. I'm pretty sure that the importan secret that number 6 found has to do with something of the origin of Yomas, and the role of the organization with it.
Also, I didn't think that Clare would be such a low-ranked Claymore.

I agree, I knew she wasn't the uber claymore, but since that girl came to her and asked clare to kill her, i thought she was at least a semi-strong, out of 50 or so i would rate her at the 20th or something..
also, the "man in black" made it seem like she was pretty strong, so either that he sees something in her (potentiel to uberness) or that he acts the same to every claymore girl.
is there only one of those guys or are they a group?
and yes, Claymore is starting to look like a realy good manga, after the first 4 volumes- which were basically a stupid hunt for monsters, it starts to develop some deepness.
edit: I've gone through volume 1 - it seems that the guy's (man in blakc that assigns her jobs) is Rubel... pretty cool person.

Na', you're not the only one... I find it annoying that I can't easily recognize the female characters. But there's some uniqueness to the art that makes this refreshing. As of late, most mangas drawing styles are too similar to each other which turns me off even more.
As for the story, the last couple of volumes have been going deeper every time, and it's been hinting at a bigger plot in the horizon, so I expect the manga to keep getting better. I just hope the anime does it justice and doesn't bastardize the story and keeps some gore in it.

I think it's silly how these "awakened" beings are so far and away in terms of looks from regular Yoma. I mean just because Claymore's are half-human half yoma, and the yoma side overtakes the human side it shouldn't be any different in terms of looks from a regular humanoid yoma. Maybe there's some hidden intricacies like, only female yomas looking that way. If I recall all the regular small fry yomas that we've seen killed by Claymores were male.

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt... I think Ophellia wasn't conscious enough to keep her "normal" appearance, I mean she realized she was awakened very late. That they can transform into that appearance during a fight is fine, but they shouldn't be walking around in that form as she'd been doing. There should also be a realistic attempt to fight normally, with their Claymores and stuff... and if that doesn't work, sure go ahead and transform.

Meh, there was that one male awakened one that was fought before Ophelia came in.
I'll take a shot in the dark and say that only the most powerful Yoma, and thus the least humanoid (if there are any), are bonded to humans to create Claymore.

I did kind of feel bad for Ophelia. Yeah, she was an evil bitch, but she became everything she's ever hated. Seeing her break down after she finally saw herself (how could she not have noticed earlier?) made me pity her. Priscilla hated Youma as much as Ophelia did, but she wasn't was shocked at all when she became one. I guess the difference is that Ophelia always hated Awakened Ones specifically.
It also seems that Priscilla has been very busy since she Awakened.

Don't know if the scan's are any good since it's a group other than the one we're used to (Manga-Sketchbook).
Edit: It's actually a scanlation project, which unlike M-S does not just scan the english licensed releases. Nice, a group thats scanning the raws finally! One bad thing about them is, sometimes text goes outside the bubble, and some bubbles are left untranslated, with the japanese words still in them.
We learn a lot of new information, and lotsa fighting. This was a great volume, as to be expected.
Ryllharu
Sun, 05-06-2007, 07:46 PM
Most of the untranslated bubbles are all sound effects, and most of those towards the effect of "shaa" for sword swings, or "haa" for Clare being out of breath while fighting.
A very interesting turn of events. Priscilla isn't even as strong as we thought she was. That awakened beings even have a society is shocking enough, much less that they are beginning a war with each other, using Claymores as troops and leaving everything else in the middle.
Always nice to see Galatea again too. I wondered when we'd see her again after they mentioned she was the 3rd ranked.

No I don't mean that, didn't Priscilla like, look older and taller? In one of the pictures where you see Isley, Raki, and then Priscilla in the middle, she's shorter than Raki. Oh well, maybe I just have a bad memory and she was always like that, and her memory regression just gave her a more kiddish feel.

Hmm, well, Priscilla and Riful are both awakened ones, greater than any human or yoma or sum thereof. So, it wouldn't go beyond reason to say that awakened ones possess all the abilities a normal yoma would have, one of them being able to cast the appearance of a normal human.

Awesome chapter, it's good to see so many Claymore's in the one battle and getting carved up, especially now since the Lion King guy jumped in, he doesn't want to take weaklings only the stronger ones. That seems like it may be his down fall with under estimating. Also seems like the Claymore's aren't going to last too much longer, and with an Isley around the corner, it certainly doesn't. Will be nice to see the reaction from the Organisation as they still have many more members that they can use for this
It will be good to see Raki getting some training from Isley and then later on find out it's the one Clare wants to take out, should be a nice reaction, showdown and reunion.

Rigald killed all the strong Claymores, with the exception of Miria. You kind of had to figure that once they developed some of the other Claymores, that it would be their time to die. But the ones still left alive at this point to protect Miria are the ones who've partially awakened. Underestimation could be a huge factor in defeating him. Jean was also only stabbed through the torso, and for semi-awakened ones, that doesn't mean much. She is an offensive type, but Clare has been speared through several times. I don't believe Jean is completely out of the picture yet.
Priscilla and Riful aren't considered Awakened ones anymore, since they were stronger than anyone else when they awoke. That's why they separate them above as Abyssal Ones. I wouldn't be surprised if Priscilla and Riful's current appearance is more like what it was when they joined the organization. Riful was commented on being the youngest Claymore to reach rank 1, and also a member of the first generation of female warriors.
We also have the Organization training up the top 5 (excluding Ophelia, who they may or may not know awoke and was slain). They showed one of the men in black talking to the shadowed figure of Alicia, number 1, about doing more experiments on her to get her strong enough to take out Riful.
So we've got the Northern and Western Abyssal Ones beginning campaigns against each other, the Organization making their monstrously strong Claymores stronger in the East, and the semi-awakened group caught in the middle of everyone. Riful and Isley both want to recruit any awakened Claymores, even forcing them to do so. The Organization will probably kill any of the semi-awakened after they finish off the Abyssal Ones. And we still don't know what Miria knows about the Organization.
Can't wait for the next couple volumes.

Nice! 10sigh (Genius), his name definetely suits him!
Edit: That was a really good volume, but I must say it was quite cheesy. Even if Clare awakened just those limbs, that shouldn't mean she should completely dominate an awakened being, among awakened beings, the Lion King who is FULLY awakened and 2nd or 3rd in command to Isley. Oh well, it's manga, they're bound to have stuff like this. Just a little minor pet peeve. We finally see Isley awaken fully, and he seems to be getting owned by Lucia. Amazing events.
Ryllharu
Thu, 05-10-2007, 01:36 PM
Clare couldn't ever control her awakened limbs at any point. She just went berserk after him. The other Claymores helped distract him and occasionally peppered him with minor blows (or at least attempted to). Clare won only because she was so much faster and had many more blades to his single arm.
Alicia and Bess must be what the Organization wants out of their Claymores. Mindless drones who do what they are told. They obviously are no longer fond of Galatea, and will probably try to kill her off once the new "eye" is completely ready. After all, one of the characters said the only reason they approved of Clare being given Teresa's parts was an outside hope that her ability would be preserved.
I do like how Clare isn't just powering up for no reason and miraculously being able to control it. She clearly has control issues, shown by Jean having to help her back. Also, there's been a logical progression from how she was at the Cathedral to how she accomplished this. First she semi-awakened, bringing out a huge jump in potential. Second, she further developed the skills she inherited from Teresa, so she has a greater understanding of other's youma energy as well as her own. After that, she learned to control individual limbs surging with youma energy from Ilena, and was given the graft to improve that arm's speed. Inspired from Galatea, Clare developed the energy alignment skills needed to bring herself back from the Awakened state, which she tested on Jean, and later herself. Finally, some additional training with Flora, and we have Clare as she exists in this volume.
So Isley sent troops to the East and West to distract the Organization and Riful while he went after Lucia. Seeing what the Organization really wants, maybe the surviving Claymores in the group we've come to know so well joining with Riful isn't such a bad idea after all.

Also, I don't see numbers 3 and 5 doing anything significant to Riful, because it was stated that Number 1 with the aid of number 2 regulating her spirit, would deal 50% damage to Riful before dying. Maybe that was just before she was completed, I can't completely recall. Anyways since this volume is complete, mangaupdates does not indicate that volume 13 has been started in Japan. Are the chapters released weekly? Hopefully we can get like a weekly Claymore scanlation!

Wow, wherever it was stated that all the male warriors were put out to pasture obviously missed the Organization leaders, Rubul being the most prominent example. Can't wait till the inner workings of that place are revealed.
Also seems kind of strange that Riful herself would take to the field and personally confront a group of Claymores without her second-in-command. Guess she must really want current 3 and 5. Speaking of which, I wonder where Galatea could've gone?

Claymore is awsome.
really awsome...
the new gen claymores are even more powerful, forget about agility, brute strenght or flashy swordplay, they're half crazy uber monsters. I wonder which number will the first to awaken and go super saiyan2.
http://www.shortpacked.com/d/20050803.html
also, what do we know by now? who stands where?
we've seen 3 (gentle sword), 5 (friction sword) and 4 (pervert loli), in addition to that we have alicia and Bess (1& 2?), which leaves us with the new eye - Lune. what do you think her number is?I wonder how do they stack up againt pricsilla and isely? and how does claire compare to them now?
next, Raphel is most likely dead, since #5 is taken. or she was moved back into a secret spot for covert ops, or whatever.
intersting, though. the first five are crazy, probably each of them was manually created by the orginazation, the single digits are most likely also good, but everyone else is just filling in the numbers, seems like a really big gap.
moving on, the black suits seem to be the last speciment of male warriors, that's why they never fight (so they won't awaken) nor do they age. Rubul was there before ralph's sister has gone crazy, which was a few years before terrasa came, about ten years before the series started, and now've jumped seven years to the future. that makes about 25 years or something? dude is crazy!
one abyssal girl (Luci?) is dead, Rufi is also going down, leaves us isely? everything is his for the taking. for whatever reason he wants it... I wonder how's Raki doing, did they (Isely and Prisc) put him in the cell to protect him and then picked him up? or did they spilt up for good?
lots of questions... I hope 13 comes out just as fast...

Some of leaders of the Organization mentioned sending out Lune to go look for the missing 7 before one of the others claimed there would be no point in it. I assume Lune is the new "eye" of the Organization and the rebellious Galatea has met her end by their hands.
As for number 4, Miata, she looks about the same size as Clarice, but I took a peek at the raws of 13, and she barely comes up to Clarice's chest. Miata really is a child. The focus on Clarice makes me wonder if her and Miata are going to become major sideplot to the main 7.
Riful, I know she's pure evil, but she really is strangely likeable. Helen and Denveve had that talk towards the end about which side they were actually going to save, and I have to admit, I idly hope they side with Riful somewhere.

You didn't even need to look at the raws, there was a panel where you see Clarice sprawled out on the floor, and Miata directly on top of her. They met at the legs, and Miata was at Clarice's chest doing her business.

Hm... I dont like the new 3 and 5, but number 4 seems to interest me. I just wanna see how much stronger the 7 have gotten though it seems the bottom 3 of the 7 have gotten any stronger. And ya i was kinda hoping that they side with Ritful, well to at least kill 3 and 5 off.
I thought it was kinda cheesy when the introduce "Clarice" and that she just so happened to be number 47.
Lol, Teresa's flesh, Elena's arm, and know Flora's wind cutter, Clair's becoming quiet the collector.

I wonder what clair's actual ranking would be now?? I mean, the way miria looks at her now, she'd probably be considered an elite...like top 4 or 5
Ryllharu
Sun, 05-13-2007, 08:28 AM
Miria said that the core of her group can probably handle any single digit, and they all certainly have stealth on their side, having practiced it for the past 7 years. I think Clare would rank at least 3rd. Miria even said the Windcutter is slower that the Quick Blade, and she'd still be a match for most other Claymores.
Clarice is 47 because that's the lowest rank there is, and she's fairly incomplete. The leaders announced that their ranks were back to full at 47. Remember that the Claymores are separated by regions, putting the strongest ones in the toughest/largest regions. I doubt they swell their ranks beyond what's necessary. The common people would be afraid if there was suddenly an army of half-yoma warriors. They keep the numbers low to avoid that. This generation, they have obviously focused the most on their strongest members, and left the rest of the group weak.

She was completely overpowered as a Claymore by Teresa. Oh well, there always needs to be someone stronger and above everyone else all the time which makes these stories more interesting.

Oh well, with Priscilla aside, I wanna see how badass Raki's become, if he's become badass at all. Maybe by the end of the series he'll sweep Clare off her feet, live happily on a farm and raise a quarter yoma children. That's assuming Claymore's aren't sterile or what not.

Probably not much anymore, but they said RIful had said that it was an indicator of how powerful you were when you were as a Claymore, had affected your ability as a awakened being. Riful had used to be a ranked #1 Claymore I believe I had read somewhere. Riful has also stated for those that half-awaken like Clare, turn out to be fully matured fruits the longer they are in that state, and when they do finally awaken are more powerful and above other awakened beings. Maybe Priscilla had half-awakened before and was in that state and maybe she became powerful that way, but we don't know yet, neither do we know if we're ever going to find out the source of why she's so powerful.

Back when Teresa was being hunted, the others said that Teresa could easily sense that Priscilla would become much stronger than she was, and they were surprised that Teresa didn't kill her when she had Priscilla at her mercy.
Recall that Priscilla never used her yoma powers before and never used them while killing yoma, but unlike Teresa, she had no practice at controlling the energy and quickly Awakened once she did. Teresa, or possibly Irene, mentioned that Priscilla using her powers would be much stronger than Teresa was, IF she could control them.
Priscilla was simply gifted. Teresa was also, in her ability to sense yoma energy so perfectly.

Actually, they'd be 12.5 percent yoma, since Clare's only a quarter yoma (remember, she didnt take in yoma blood, she took Teresa's blood, which is why many thought she was so weak)...

I've given up on the fight against reading the manga. This brings me however, to a point where I start wondering about the rules of these forums.
There is an explicit rule explaining that any spoiling is forbidden. Yet I see people that apparently read the manga "suggest events", "predict the future" and in general discuss things they have known since a long while. Like Ryllharu.
A person does not know, that a certain speculation is in fact spoiling untill he finds out about the truth and could be spoiling himself if he uncovers the spoiler(s). Therefore I'm exposing you here and I will, later this day, report a full list of people that have brought speculation close to spoiling forward in this anime forum to the devs.(Which will give you time to delete/edit your posts)
Users with knowledge that reaches beyond the last anime episode should completely refrain from posting any suggestive comments whatsoever. Nothing. End of story.
Good day to you, stick to the rules.
Besides that, jezus, Claymore kicks total ass.

I won't post there anymore. The last two topics within the thread were much more active than any other because of me correcting idiots with material from the anime because they were speculating based off facts they made up instead of displayed material.
The worst spoiler I revealed? That Clare is only 1/4 yoma, and Galatea's powers MIGHT work the same way as Teresa's, which any idiot should be able to tell.
Enjoy a stagnant conversation consisting of, "Well ____ is cool, but she's no Teresa" or "That fight was awesome." and Naruto/Bleach worthy speculations based off whatever dream someone had after they watched the episode and forgot all the material in the earlier episodes.

Don't get me wrong, this is not about you, your name popped up because you are the most expressionistic in your views and they happen to match alot of the later content. There's however plenty of other people all around the forums walking around in red zones they shouldn't be walking around in.
I'm going to be perfectly clear about this. I'm on of the least posting members on these forums. I only post low quantity and sometimes even low quality, but I read alot and I log in a douzen times a day. If there's one thing I hate, it's people secretly hinting to future content, and worse, in reverse post about how brilliantly right they were back then.
I'll seriously knot anyone I see spoiling on these forums to the highest tree from now on.
And if you really had that much of a warning on your spoiling, I guess the Mods can see that for themselves and won't punish twice for the same mistake. ( your posts do not date that far back though )

I may post close to the borderline, but I've only crossed it in the instances above. The errors were corrected by a moderator, and I further edited it to eliminate any potential information that might have slipped and to back up every single statement in that post with material from the anime.
Despite my efforts, I still continue to take shit for that post. So I've had enough of being accused of spoiling. I don't care if there are others you're more concerned about, and I agree that those who praise themselves for being right when they already knew they were are the worst offenders. However, I know that I'm one of the more constructive posters around here, and that I put in far more research into my posts than I really have to. I'm not pleased with being the poster boy for spoiling when I haven't done much of any consequence.
So I'm done. I suspect the discussion in that thread will be more simplified commentary than researched speculation from now on. Unless some other posters who share my need to verify the material they mention and research their claims stick around. That was one of the more enjoyable threads with discussion for a series I watch in a long time.
I won't drag this thread any further off topic.
EDIT: My warning was only verbal, since in terms of magnitude it wasn't that bad. It's not the mods that keep giving me shit for that post after I already apologized and fixed it.

Trying in with a post from the anime thread I thought it would be more interesting to talk about here since we already know about Alicia and Beth, and Galatea will reappear soon.
Granted there will always be stars in each generation like Teresa and Priscilla, but it seems like the Claymores of present day are stronger overall, by comparing Noel and Sophia (ranked 4 and 5) to the members of Miria's team (6, 15, 22, 47). Miria's team members are special cases, but for supposedly being stronger than Miria, Sophia and Noel came off as pretty generic.
Let's look at the generation before the War in the North. Since Alicia and Beth are special cases, if we remove them from the rankings, that moves Miria down to 4th, and Galatea down to 1st. That puts her at equivalent rank to Teresa, and she has superior powers since she can actually manipulate Yoki when her foes aren't paying attention or using too much. With Miria having developed her old form of Flash and Flora (adjusted to Rank 6) with the windcutter, compared to the old 4 and 5, Noel and Sophia, they do seem stronger overall.
Then with the 17 of various ranks killed, and 7 deserted after the battle at Pieta, this next generation is obviously weaker since they just cranked them out as fast as they could, but trained the strongest to purposely fight Awakened and Abyssal Ones. This brings me to the next point and back up to date.
If we assume Galatea's adjusted rank would have been first, are we about to see a repeat of what happened with Teresa and Priscilla? It's been mentioned twice that Miata could be ranked 1st, sound familiar? She won't because of her obvious mental issues, but Miata also fights incredibly well under suppressants, just as Priscilla did by never releasing her energy. Priscilla had father issues, Miata has mother ones. She and Clarice are hunting a higher ranked Claymore who excels at reading and in this case twisting Yoki.
I think we may see a parallel to the Teresa-Priscilla fight, but hopefully with a better ending this time. Claymore revolt seems to be theme of this era in the story, and where Priscilla was on her own, Miata has Clarice as her voice of reason.

I couldn't not read the manga anymore, and it's been a damn fine experiance. So many charachters but they all have such interesting personalities and quirks. Off all the charachters in the big battle my favorite was probably Jean (R.I.P. Jean I'll miss you forever!!!) with the other half awakeneds all being very interesting of course. Gotta love those hyper-honorable types who follow main charachters around like loyal servants and make main charachters realize important things about themselves.
As for the current arc the hunt for Galtea AKA The Prettiest Claymore has me worried, since loli vamp might just be able to do take her down. Hopefully we'll instead see Galatea escape and join the Band of 7 (they can sacrifice Yuma to keep the number since she's not all that interesting). Also, Clarice reminds me of Clare somehow, and I think that similarity is going to be built upon as the story progresses.

I'm too lazy to post most of the time, but I feel that I should add some input at this point. I sent a private message to Ryllharu earlier regarding his comments in the Claymore Anime thread. I didn't think that I came across as impolite or as giving him shit about his participation in that discussion, and if that's how my message was received that certainly wasn't my intention.
Ryllharu, I don't think you should stop posting in the Claymore discussion because I agree that most of what you say generates good discussion and keeps the thread interesting. From my point of view, you've been one of the more intelligent and interesting posters for quite a while. I just think that any manga reader shouldn't engage too deeply in anime speculation because something is bound to leak eventually.
In the upcoming Miata vs Galatea conflict, I also hope for Galatea to survive. However, I wouldn't count on her joining the Band of Seven because they already have an "eye" type. There's several ways to play out this situation but I also think that a parallel to Priscilla vs Teresa is likely. Clarice being the emotional support of Miata will probably be the deciding difference.
I also liked Jean's character (R.I.P.!!) but one of the interesting elements in Claymore is that the protagonists aren't all safe from death. I think, though, that since the Band of Seven cannot use yoma techniques anymore, Helen has probably inherited an ability similar to Jean's to at least remember part of her. No more hyper-honorable character for a while though...

I completely agree with this. With a sidenote.
The fact that you yourself deem your own posts highly intelligent and of significant quality, signals a fair amount of selfesteem. This inevitably leads to wanting other people to see you the same way, which in turn will result in trying to post with maximum quality, intelligence, the whole package, paired with the need to be interesting. Being interesting means going beyond common reasoning. As you said yourself, without spoiling, the discussion will become dull.
And since you are an intelligent person, you did not spoil by accident. You kept the spoiling relatively low-threat, while keeping the balance between an interesting discussion and obvious spoiling. While you did this, you knew exactly what you were doing.
Keeping the discussion interesting, is not an excuse for spoiling.
I agree your posts are excellent reading material. Well structured and eloquent, while perfectly comprehendable for those aren't so perfectly educated in English and I would like to see you post in the animé thread. Is it really that hard to let go of predicting the future. Speculation , I agree, is what keeps people posting and what keeps the thread interesting.
Wil they miss your posts so much, that the thread will die and close ?
I'm indeed acting in contrary to my previous statement. I'm now making this about you. The reason for that, is to exactly point out, that this is not about you at all.
You stop posting and the thread should wither and die ? That's some mighty arrogance you show there.
You also marvelously put yourself in the position of the underdog as soon as you're exposed. You write a beautiful, elegant and emotional speech about how your fragile little mind has been violated so many times for your inspicible crimes already and you should not be put to trial again. *sobby puppy-eyes*
Perfect writing. It even made mé stop from actually doing what I said and, I can tell you, I'm a synical , sarcastic and sometimes sadistic bastard( when writing and evaluating people, not irl).
Re-evaluating everything you've said in the past series of events however, lead me to believe you are actually smart enough to fake the whole feeling guilty thing. Hence this reply.
I am looking forward to reading what you'll write in the future. It's a good read.

Fair enough, I probably overreacted. After Munsu's initial warning, I got Augury's PM and your posts within two hours of each other. Yours pissed me off unlike Augury's, since I had already edited out more and you were singling me out with the other worse offenders as an example. Lastly, it was an accident, I thought it was common sense that Clare is 1/4.
No, I do feel like shit when being accused of spoiling. I ruined discussion in an anime thread on another forum with spoiler tags discussing the manga with another member. Before that, someone spoiled the major plot points in Peacemaker Kurogane and Chrno Crusade for me, and it really ruined the enjoyment of both. So I take it very personally. Nice attack on my ego. I didn't imply that it would die, but my recent activity has made it more active than it was. Back to topic, I'd like to see this issue closed once and for all.
(if you really want to continue, do it in PMs)
@Augury:
Who in the 7 is their "eye"? They all have become pretty good at it from keeping a lookout for investigators from the Organization, Clare probably being the most proficient. They don't have anyone like Galatea yet, who can see accurately from much farther away. None of them could tell who (Riful or 3 and 5) were losing until they got a considerably closer. I'm still very much hoping they seek each other out and join, since it doesn't look like anyone will side with Riful at this point.
Since the final three are weak, and Miria developed a new method off of her old one, Helen, Deneve and Clare all adopted the fighting style of the higher ranks they looked up to during the War in the North. Clare obviously took Flora's Windcutter, Deneve picked up Undine's sword and her style, while Helen learned Jean's. Each of them took a skill from the ones they connected to the most, or who moved them to be better. I thought it was very touching. It gives the dead ones a feeling of legacy. It's not that they can't use Yoki, it's that they don't. They've all become stealth assassins like Raphaela.

I forgot her name, but the former no.31 (or 30? Tabatha I think) was observing Riful as their eye. Like you said, her proficiency doesnt match up anywhere close to Galatea's, but they're the same type of skill. Back during the first arc with Miria, she said that her sensing range could cover the mountain area which they were in, so I assume that this other girl's range is greater (or greatest in the group) if Miria asks her to scout.
Actually I'm a bit interested in seeing what will become of Cynthia. Other than being the next-highest ranked to not be targeted by the Lion (heh... too lazy to search the archives for another name ><) we don't really know anything about her except that she was a defensive type.

I personally thought the fact that Clare being 1/4 was obvious even before it was "revealed", seeing as how Teresa is 1/2 herself, and a half of a half is a quarter. This is junior high school mathematics here people.

Hm, I've seen them talk about her recieving the flesh of Teresa, instead of that of a yoma, I don't think they said anything about 1/4th :P Maybe I'm just nitpicking but I personally don't believe in "exact"science.
Overall, they've become dramatically better at sensing yoki, once Riful shows up, they can all sense the full depth of her power (something the Claymores don't until it's too late). Even Yuma can get a general feel for the battle at that range. But I did forget about the scene with Tabitha, who appears to have trained herself beyond the others to become the Seven's Eye.
It's does seem strange that Cynthia, who was ranked higher than both Helen and Deneve isn't used to save the Claymores fighting Riful. Perhaps she's just around to defend Tabitha and Yuma, but it doesn't seem like she's developed over time to the same extent Miria, Clare, Helen and Deneve have. Those 4 are all certainly equivalent to high ranking single digits now. They fight like Rafaela now, so they are probably all about Rank 2. To Cynthia's credit, we haven't really seen her do anything, but I don't really expect much.

Yes, it's revealed. When Clare encounters Irene? who lost her left arm against Priscilla but survived I believe, and later cuts off her right arm and gives it to Clare. She tells Clare that she's weaker than most Claymore due to the fact that she's only 1/4th, taking on the flesh of a Claymore and not another full yoma.

Despite the different tones between Berserk and Claymore, I really hope they reveal that Clare and Raki (Lucky?) live in post revolutionary Midland, and that the insignias the Claymores bare are in honor of Guts, the first demon slasher to survive. I do realize this is very unlikely, unless the mangaka got together and planned this out some. On the other hand, the Claymore world could easily be two or three hundred years after the Berserk world, and the plots would still make sense individually and together.
I hope Lucky gets some Clare action soon. I know I'd hit that.

'Raki' is the Japanese phonetic transliteration for 'Lucky'. Mangaka often use foreign names for foreign settings. In fact, 'Clare' is not a Japanese name, or even valid romaji (That would be 'Kureru'). This makes me wonder if the mangaka intended the name to be Lucky but the translators missed it. Thaaa-aaanks.

Rakki = Lucky. Raki is just Raki.
Raki = ラキ
Rakki = ラッキー
Both different.
Sure you can argue that he used Raki so that we can make a parallel with the "lucky" meaning. But the fact that he didn't use "Rakki" as his name suggest that "Lucky" was not meant to be his name.
And Clare is "Kurea" クレア

Another link for Claymore Extra Scene 1 (http://www.savefile.com/files/856292).
This just makes Teresa's death more incredible (not using the the wow/awesome sense of the word). The author is essentially saying that Teresa could've taken out or competed with awakened Priscilla if she hadn't been careless even though this conflicts with the Organization's agent telling Alicia that she was their strongest ever.

Well, for Teresa, it's probably literal. Her ability works much better at killing Awakened Ones release all their power and thus allow her to do the move reading shit than fighting a human who can suppress their power and avoid her skill.
animus
Tue, 07-03-2007, 07:34 AM
I don't think that's the case. It's said in the manga that Teresa is rare for the fact that she has such amazing Yoki reading abilities and the fact that when she fights, she never releases any Yoki. The same goes for Priscilla, they are extremely rare cases of such skill where Yoki usage is not needed.

To Augury:
I think Alicia came way after Teresa was carelessly killed. Between the time Clare was a child and the now adult Clare, a lot of time must have passed. So Between Teresa's death and now, Alicia could have been created after Teresa died. I saw no word that says Alicia was created before Teresa. Unless I overlooked something. :/
Augury
Wed, 07-04-2007, 01:47 AM
The timing of when Alicia entered the organization's ranks is not an issue. Alicia's agent tells her that she is the "strongest in our annals," (vol9, ch49 (http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/2766/claymore09125ld4.png)) which I took to mean strongest of all recorded Claymores. This makes sense when we find out that she can fight fully awakened, but this latest extra scene has Teresa taking down an awakened former #1 rather handily.
I think that the author is saying that Teresa was really that good, and that her handler's comment of "there's no way that it would end well against an awakened, former number one" works to have the organization underestimate her actual strength.
On a side note, if we were to find the time of when Alicia enters the Organization:
She and Beth could possibly be the twins mentioned in vol12, ch64 (http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/9308/craymore12014ao0.png). We see Raphaela meeting with Teresa later that chapter (http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/1210/craymore12016sp0.png), so Alicia + Beth were probably already under development in Teresa's era.
( suddenly... I feel very nerdy for leafing through the archives and uploading the manga pics >< )

It's nice that you care enough about your fellow readers to look up details. Anyway when I read that line in chapter 64 I immediately assumes it was Alice and Beth. I remember it saying somewhere that the Organization generally picks up orphans (probably lots of Yoma victims in this category) to make into Claymores but for Alice and Beth they actually went searching for a set of twin infants and took them from their parents.

Well, apparently for all my insistence in the anime thread that Teresa wasn't godly strong is completely invalidated by the Extra Chapter. However, she noted that when she starts raising her Yoki she goes berserk. So even her own Yoki was almost too much for her to handle. Perhaps she isn't so unlike Alicia and Beth or Lucileia and Rafaela.
On the other side, it really emphasizes the demonic power that Priscilla possesses as she would have surpassed Teresa with only a little time.
I don't see how Clare has a chance. *crosses fingers for an allegiance with Riful*

I said in the anime thread (http://forums.gotwoot.net/showthread.php?p=347593&postcount=769) that I was going to post what I feel would be the best place to end the anime. It may have been mentioned before, but it's a good a place as any. Leaves the audience wanting more, and is a reasonable place to stop.
They could pretty much follow the anime completely up to the time jump. The final episode with the deaths of all the Claymores in Pieta. In the final five minutes, show Clarice counting the claymores in the ground, announce that 7 are missing. Fade out with Helen's line, "She counted them all."
Skip Isely and Luciela, as well as Rafaela and Luciela. No point in putting them in if you can't get into the aftermath with Riful's talk with Clare. There's no point in putting Alicia and Beth in either. Their storyline seems to be quite a ways off.
Yukimura
Fri, 08-17-2007, 06:44 PM
For that to work the battle in Pieta would have to stretch for 5 episodes. I don't know if there's enough material for that much. I thought it would be passable to end it with Isely and Lucilla beginning to fight, and Alicia and Beth and Riful and Duff all going on concurrently and then someone says something about all the warriors that died in the North and it cuts to the 7. It would be extremely Cliffhangerish, but it wouldn't require stretching the Pieta battle as much.

Wed, 08-22-2007, 03:58 PM
Speaking of Raki, I really wonder why he's still alive.
He has been discussed a bit before on that thread... However can we go a little further?
I was wondering wether he has *something* or not.
The first ep of the anime seems pretty clear about this, he was fully human at that time. Or was he already something else?
Now I wonder why several years after (it seems, since he looked so young in ep 1) he has a special smell that makes him special for Priscilla. I wonder why he has a tendency to be able to cope with non fully human beings... at first Clare, and now Priscilla. I mean in that last ep, it seems his compassion was way stronger than his fear. That's strange when your life is immediately in danger.
Is it because he smells of Clare and Teresa (Priscilla knowing both).
Is it because he smells of Ophelia and Riful
Or maybe he's got something hidden that we do not know yet? Someone in this thread was guessing
he could become a male claymore, and being able to control his awakening since it seems he helped Clare when she was on the verge of loosing control.
If you remember in the anime, there was a very bright flash surronding Clare and it seems the other times she controls it, that flash is a bit different.
Do you think Easley and/or Priscilla are thinking of changing him, what's their need
to have him by their side? If they changed him to an awaken being, that would be
harsh for Clare I guess. But Priscilla and Easley do not have the need for this with the
army they have, and Clare is no one to them yet.
There's also that phrase he always says, that someday he'll become strong enough to
protect Clare. Since she's not totally human and surpasses humans by far, why is he
always saying this?
c u
Ryllharu
Wed, 08-22-2007, 07:56 PM
Remember that Priscilla is beyond an Abyssal One. She and Easley came up with the idea to make her appear as the weaker one. Like Riful, she does whatever she damn well pleases, whenever she pleases. Her every whim can be satisfied.
Raki just happens to be one of her whims. Perhaps she did lose her memory a bit. But after Riful's encounter with her, it's hard to believe. I proposed the idea that since Clare would have Teresa's blood, so unlike most Claymores who smell like half-human, half-yoma, she smells more like Teresa. Teresa probably being the most prominent memory to Priscilla. Ophelia also said Clare smells funny, as part of her half-Awakening. Perhaps Priscilla smells that on him as well.
We have seen no evidence of him since the time jump, but I doubt he's joined them as an Awakened Being. He's certainly become a superb swordsman by now, from training with Easley every day. Does he even know that they aren't human? Raki's not completely stupid, but the two were very proficient at hiding it from him up until then. I figure that 7 years of never seeing them age might tip him off though.
It's also a known fact (related by Miria and Rubel) that all male Claymores Awakened. Not all at once, but all eventually do. Miria explained its why the shifted to girls. I doubt Raki's special in any way. Maybe Priscilla views him as a brother figure, she seems intent to develop a few family. She was sad all the Awakened and Claymores were dying in Pieta.

I wonder if the rest of the hellish trio could transform to a third yoma form. After the fight with lucelia I thought they only have two forms of yoma release, but now it seems like Isely has a third one (1. Human with bow. 2. Centuar with human face. 3. demon centaur). we still need to see Riful going all out against someone..
I'm still confused about the timeline, how long was it since Pris changed to the time she met with Isely? and how long did they wait before going to the south?
Ryllharu
Tue, 09-11-2007, 12:13 PM
There's no much way to tell how long it was between her Awakening and meeting with Isley. Certainly less than it took Clare to age. She cut a rather large swath across the land though, stopping by enough villages to kill Ophelia's family, and probably several other soon-to-be Claymores.
Long enough for both Riful and Isely to notice, as they had each mentioned her savagery, which must have been widespread and quite bad for their kind to notice. It doesn't seem like she and Isley waited too long after they joined together. They made the plans out right away, built forces, and started.
I'm more curious about how/when she lost her memory. It appeared her amnesia was in fact genuine. For now I'm guessing mental trauma.

The plot diverges during volume 10. The Awakened Undine's team and Flora's team fought tries to make Undine and the others actually Awaken (not too different, but a subtle enough difference), but the large shift comes at the end of Scene 54, where Flora fights Clare. Jean does not interrupt them.
So start at volume 10 and you'll get a good recap.
But you will have missed one very short scene with Alicia. That occurs in volume 9 at the end of Scene 54.

As of yet we do not know that much about that other Claymore. Maybe we won't, or we'll just have Miria say that she learned about Claire from her.
From what happened in that elimination fight, I guess she does not possess the qualities needed to be a real Claymore and live long enough. Although I may be wrong since she seems to be the one using Claire's hair and her own yoki for the get apens.
At least we know that the final exam is very selective and that they need a lot of girls to maintain the little number of Claymores they have. I've been thinking that the method was not very different from Riful one.
We also confirm that the guy with the hat (ruful?) has some strenght, as he lifts the sword with one arm. But we already knew that him always being at the right place, and being able to trace a Claymore so easily was supectful. Maybe we'll learn his true form.

I'm wondering about the other guy, I think he made his first appearence earlier. I wonder whether he just released the youma, or did he 'see' from it, or actually control it.
maybe they create youmas for these situations, and the scars they have on thier bodies is part that have become youmas...
perhpas they have a controled messuare of creating the youmas (draw the lines between reproduction, the process of male awakenning and self pleasure . really, I'm not about to spell it for you, I'm sick enough to think about it).

with all these extra chapters and stuff, Im still debating as to who is the strongest possible claymore in history...
we know priscilla is stronger than an abyssal one from these recent chapters, and we know teresa is godly strong too.
We dont know too much about the two twins yet, but it looks like Raphaela is extremely strong as well...being former #2 I think? And she was powerful before Teresa become strong so if she is still alive...I cant imagine

well, it depends on where you choose them.. an AB is stronget than a normal claymore, and there are tons of 'if's involved.
but if you measure them as claymores before awakenning, I think Teresa is the strongest... Pris didn't stand much chance against her, and even former #1 could only lick teressa's boots when they met.
Raph is strong, But other than being a good spy she doesn't have any exceptional skills, she's got high stats, and probably ablity to power up like hell, but not any cool moves or stuff.
Alicia is strong, but I don't think she can rival the Abyssal ones yet, her awakened forms looks too 'normal' to win such a fight.

Alicia is strong, but I don't think she can rival the Abyssal ones yet, her awakened forms looks too 'normal' to win such a fight.
Priscilla wasn't all flashy and enormous being when she effortlessly (without really fighting even) struck Easley and get him on her side (sort of).
And she even had anothe PowerUp.
So I wouldn't really base my judgments on looks, size and so on.
After all, Riful and Priscilla look like innocent little girls in their human forms...
Death BOO Z
Sat, 10-27-2007, 07:41 AM
well, Pris allways had the inverse proportion thing, she looked like a baby when she was a claymore, but she still got #2, that's her signature look, the innocent child anime cliche', her 'fight' with Isely just showed how strong and unwell (mentally) she is.
Alicia, on the other hand, has a serious look, and even her incomplete personallity looks like she always means buisness and goes all out.
Sure, it doesn't mean she isn't imensly strong and that she couldn't be the strongest, but i just can't see it happenning.
on the other hand, the beast girl (something with M? forgot her name) might turn out to be a good rival for Pris.
Riful might look a small girl, but she doesn't act as one, and I doubt we've seen her true awakened form.

This isn't the anime, I don't think they have more than one Awakened form. Isely went all out against Priscilla in Extra 4, but he was just a bigger version of the time he fought Lucelia. As for Riful, she doesn't really have a form anyway. Over the centuries(?) she's probably developed many ways to use the ribbons, like any Claymore develops sword techniques. They just don't show everything they can do from the start. She's certainly more adaptive than Isely and maybe even Priscilla. Even Lucelia didn't really change forms. In her fight with Isely, the mouths all over her body just remained closed.
We've pointed out the parallels with Priscilla and Miata before. Both fight with instinct rather than yoki. Both are hunting an ex-Claymore who doesn't want to be found, and specializes in sensing yoki. Both are very young for being so highly ranked. The difference is Miata is even more mentally unstable, but still has a parental figure in Clarice. Priscilla awakened out of fear and the memory of losing her father. Miata still has someone, and I hope that makes the difference with Galatea.

Seems Claymore's still one of the big things going around in Japan. The manga chapters are to be released in Jump Square (http://jumpsq.shueisha.co.jp/), a new monthly manga compilation which boasts some new promising titles. Planned for released in Nov, I was trying to find this figure of Clare in Akihabara, but it seems that it's only up for reservations.

I'm not too sure about Claymore being the 'hook', but the cover of the manga magazine features this new series called "Embalmin - The Another Tale of Frankenstein (http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6403/embalminrz6.jpg)". how the hell did galatea lose her arm? and what was that technique that wont work twice?
Ryllharu
Sun, 12-02-2007, 10:39 PM
The answer to those are related.
What "won't work twice" was Galatea's yoki manipulation trick she used on Duff long ago. Being not dumb as a rock and a former number 2 herself, the Awakened (Agatha) knew just as well as Riful did then what Galatea is doing. So, Agatha ripped Galatea's arm off during the second pass with her tentacles.
As Yuki pointed out, it's not like it matters to Galatea, she's a defensive type. She can always grow it back.

what did Agasa do? inset hair needles inside Miata? that would mean that she had some contact with Miata's body during that time... unless her hair is a parasite type creature that's able to sap strengh from the host.
that aside, I'm guessing for a legion type, it'll come apparant once they start cutting into the real body, then we'll see some Castlevania legion action (hair-made claymores attacking at the rebound, like the youmas at Riful's creeb).

Agatha's real body is her hair. She said as much when the soldier's destroyed her "body." She's been slashing and stabbing Miata the whole time with individual strands. The larger tendrils go after the soldiers and Galatea. Miata is too mentally unstable and too focused on completing the mission by killing Galatea, that she either never noticed or doesn't care that Agatha has been hacking away at her.
Miata has gone into berserk mode like she did protecting Clarice a few chapters back. Galatea, being still "human," will lose some concentration since she's become concerned for Miata as well. Agatha is playing against both sides, and taking advantage of Miata's rage to make Galatea's plan fail.
Agatha will kill Miata slowly, depriving Galatea of the backup she hoped for, and then finish off Galatea at her leisure.

There's no way that would happen. Raki knows about Awakened Beings, why they exist, and loosely knows about the first generation of male Claymores. He probably realizes that if he becomes an Awakened Being (which always happens with male Claymores), Clare will have to kill him.

Claymore Chapter 77 [FH] (http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=torrentinfo&tid=10563)
New chapter is out.
EDIT: The last few chapters have been a little underwhelming, but this is a big one.
[content continues below, end of my post is the end of the spoilers]
Clarice proves her worth, we see Miata's face and help finally comes.
They've finally humanized Miata a little bit. We get to see her face finally. It makes her seem even younger than she looked before. Maybe we'll even see a bit of mental maturing in her. Mostly due to Clarice accepting her fully at last. It's also clear that Miata is a defensive warrior, yet she still has that enormous offensive potential.
Their comparison between Clarice and Claire becomes even more pronounced. Clarice, lowest ranked, largely powerless, a "failed" Claymore. Yet, when it all comes down to it, she'll still try and kill Agatha. Granted, she was on the other side of the rogue Claymore with Galatea, and she has Miata to care for.
It's not like Clare is anything like she used to be now...
I for one am very interested in how this little affair will turn out now. The seven will want to ally themselves with Galatea, so there is no way in hell that Clarice and Miata will be able to complete their mission. Unless it is in an act of betrayal during an unguarded moment, once again connecting with the past.
Though I imagine the continued existence of the seven would be far more important to the Organization.

Man, I so love badass last page entrances. That last page was just awesome, with the mysteriousness the others exuded behind their cloaks.
I was hoping Clarice would just run away though, since it would be new and different for the wimpy reject to not magically grow a pair and decide to fight the hopeless fight before they get saved on the next page. That said it's worth it for the character development on Miata, she's said so many words besides mama this chapter, I'm impressed. But from the things that she did say and they way she instantly regenerated her arms with out even trying creeps me out significantly more than Priscilla did, she'll need someone like Clarice to keep her from following that same path.

She may as well be curious enough to follow them, in order to understand that new power they posess.
After all she's the best at controlling yoki, but it seems she never tried going to the limit and exploit that surge of power, although she helped Claire going back once.
Ryllharu

Also important to note that Galatea had absolutely no idea what happened (she said exactly that). Given Galatea's previously absurd Yoki sensing ability, that became overwhelmingly better when she blinded herself, she only noticed that something had happened because Agatha's Yoki responded from the pain. Even with her now-advanced abilities, she wasn't able to hurt Agatha at all while fighting Miata. However, whomever hurt Agatha did so without any Yoki at all. That would be very interesting to Galatea.
Clare and the other six didn't register at all. They may even be better at it than Rafaela was.
Someone like Galatea, a fugitive of the Organization, would be very interested in that kind of skill.

Hmm... I'm happy to see Clare back finally. I am assuming it was Clare who attacked since she's the only one with Ties to the city I think.
I am also wondering that everytime Clare got closer to awakening, more so since she defeated Rigardo(sp?). Going that far willingly, has me thinking that there is some new limit and that the partially awakened power, carries over to Clare in normal mode now?
If so, wouldnt she already be the strongest Claymore?
Ya, I was surprised Galatea was not able to ascertain what happened and was dumbfounded I guess, lol.

Sat, 02-09-2008, 07:20 AM
Quite possible. Like exercising to build muscle. I think that Clare's fight with Miria right before they left the North proved that. Miria would be the strongest Claymore up there, when they began, but she only got stronger by perfecting a rapid-movement technique that required no Yoki. Slower, but there was no longer a limit on how often she could use it.
Clare borrowed the Windcutter technique from Flora. Slower than the Flash Sword, but a lot stronger. She has also been practicing it for 7 years. We don't know how long Flora had been perfecting it. Clare did not have too much trouble fighting Miria, something she could never come close to before.
Clare is at least as strong as a much stronger Miria. I would hesitate to say stronger. I believe the only things they could not beat singlehandedly are Abyssal Ones and Alicia/Beth.
I don't think it is due to anything involving her partial Awakening or Yoki. It's just hard training. The same that Rafaela did in all her years of exile, making her the most fearsome assassin within the Organization.

Reading this, there's an important factor arising: Time
A regular Claymore has 1, 2 or 3 years before they awaken?
Top 10 ones a little more?
You're true to mention training, because now Clare has been a claymore for 8 to 10 years if I'm correct. The same goes for her comrades.
Meaning they are with abysmal ones, those with the longest experience with their powers.
We don't know for sure for Galatea, wether or not she's been to her limits. To me she didn't because her abitility to control her Yoki is too strong, thus stopped her far before going to the edge.
But she's been living for a long time too as a Claymore now. So she's at the top of what a Claymore can be before awakening or going to the edge.
Regarding Clare, we have to remember she has a part of Teresa in her.
Teresa was very strong without using her Yoki. So she maybe inherited that trait after working it for a long time.
Ryllharu
Sat, 02-09-2008, 10:28 AM
It has nothing to do with years of service. Her friend from training, Elena, in the second or third chapter was starting to awaken because she used her powers too often, and began to lose control. Clare did not use her Yoki nearly as much, and as such, did not come close to Elena's plight.
Clare figured out from her experiences with Ophelia and Ilena it has nothing to do with time, and everything to mental self control. It's the reason Clare and the other semi-Awakeneds still have not.
No strain on the senses, no chance to Awaken.
Just like Clare and the other six, Galatea has not been using her powers while hiding as a nun.

it's become pretty hard to set the strengh levels in claymore-verse.. but i'll try anyway.
the weakest members are obviously normal humans - soldiers, bandits, peasents, they tend to get eaten within a chapter or so,
next up are youmas and normal (weak)claymore, who I think are quite equal, at the beginning Clare was usually told to wait for back-up to arrive, and some youmas have exprience fighting claymores, which means that their power level is compitable.
next are the higher claymores, which can beat normal youmas by themselves, but need to gang up to fight an awakened being, only the top ten could probably kill an AwB alone.
now's the tricky part.
Miria needed Claire's help to win over the male AwB back then, but males were said to be stronger. But still, the guy they fought couldn't compare to Duff, who was #3 in his time, So Galeta is stronger than Miria at the same multitude Duff was stronger than that AwB.
That covers most of the story until the time skip.
Alica and Beth are just as strong as the abyssal ones. they can take out a few AwBs on thier own.
Miata can do the same, but probably on a smaller multitude, she has won over 5 Awbs, but she got in trouble with them and almost lost. so I guess she's weaker than "the black ones"
Claire and co. at least so far, still fight AwBs together, it might be a perssonality thing, but I don't think any of the team would single-handedly fight a few awakened alone.if I had to compare them, I'd say that the team could beat Rigald without losing key members, but none of the girls could fight him alone.
Galeta, while she did get a level-up as an "Eye", probably didn't increase her fighting skills much, so now she's at the same lvel as claire and miaria.
so in short, I think the Miata can kick Claire's sweet ass.
Ryllharu
Sat, 02-09-2008, 07:43 PM
Good analysis.
Of course Galatea was much stronger than Miria. She was rank 3 vs. rank 6. Only Alicia and Beth were above her in rank, and our favorite evil loli, Riful laughingly joked that the Organization created an Abyssal One by making Alicia and Beth, so there were still 4 Abyssal Ones in the world even with Lucelia's death.
But I do disagree with one thing. Galatea couldn't beat Duff. The only reason she was doing as well as she was is due to Duff being downright retarded. Once Riful called him stupid and keyed him in on Galatea's trick, Duff was doing a fine job of kicking her ass.
They did say earlier on with her that Miata has the potential to be Rank 1 with ease. (Assuming regular ranking without Alicia and Beth.) She's just too crazy and uncontrollable, so they left her at #4. Now she appears to have gained her sanity back, and I'm guessing here from them finally showing her face. I assume that it is symbolic of her regaining a little humanity. So she may still need to cling to Clarice, but she's probably back on track to being #1.
The question remains where Clare herself stands. Now, if it was Galatea, or any other normal Claymore, I'd say she could kill them no problem. But Miata still fights on instinct, with her "sixth sense." In short, she fights exactly like Priscilla. So with Clare already the inheritor of Teresa's legacy, they may set up a fight between them.
However, Clare "inherited" abilities from a lot more people, is already beyond her limits in Yoki should she use it (though from the Extra chapters, we know how diluted Teresa's true power became when put into Clare), and has had years to practice. Miata on the other hand, has all the stability in her relationship with Clarice that Priscilla never had.
You make a lot of good points, but I don't know, my money is still on Clare.

This chapter was like the ultimate fight ever. SO freakin' awesome I can't believe it. And excuse me kids for saying this but I almost got a hard on while reading, it was just insane. Won't spoil any before more people gets to read and post their freakin' awesome experiences as well though :D
Awesome just isn't giving this chap enough credit. Seeing this in anime action would be so cool, it was so good it felt like anime action.
Thanks for introducing a subbed version so early Yukimura, major props. Awesome.
The only downside to this chap is that it ended. :P
Ps. a tip for everyone with a PS3. Start reading manga on your PS3, the zoom function as well as the page-change is so smooth there really isn't a better way of reading manga. Plus you can do it in your bed without problems :P

man that was sexy....that comment about galateas hair....fucking sexy.
I almost got a hard on while reading, it was just insane. haha ya me too...if this was porn, i would've blown my wad at pg 30.
This was definately a great end to this fight. I can't wait to get more character development on the 7 now. According to miata they're all strong. And she's doesn't seem like the type to call anyone ranked below her 'strong'. So my guess is that all of the 7 at atleast as powerful as Miata. Probably more if you dont include her instinct/sixth sense. Clare and Miria for sure are way stronger then any claymore out there rite now (with the exception of Alicia and Beth). Im really curious now about what they'll do with galatea.
Btw, that group of claymores that took on Riful after the time skip...does anyone remember thier numbers? I know they were all single digit, and pretty high up. Was the current #3 among them? In anycase, even the weakest of the 7 was stronger then them, so its safe to say that they're all reasonably badass now.

***There will be spoilers in this post, beware***
Yuh, totally, the hair was the pinnacle for sure.... and (spoiler) when she cut up the arm in pieces and number 2 was like, what the fuck just happened... that was sooo freakin' cool. Clare was just acting like the AB was some small fry.
Oe question though, did they still not use youki? It seemed like they did't but there seemed to be some mention of it or something. maybe it's just that the small girl (miata?) is just awesome when it comes to recognizing skills.
And what was also soooo cool was how... was it cynthia?... that was guiding them throughout the batlle, basically telling the rest where to slice and dice. It even seemed like she topped Galateas reading skills, or at least matched them.
***End of spoiler***
I believe they were rank 3 and 5. the defensive one being numer 3 and the short tempered
guylike clueless brat was number 5. Other than that, there were no other single digit there I think, just around 10-25 or something like that.

Impressive is how Galatea only recognized Clare when she started to speak

How could she? She recognizes youki, without youki, they might as well be... well... ghosts. I guess this answers my question about them using youki... Which makes them sooo much cooler, I mean, them being stronger than any of the single digit without yoma power, what if they started rippin' about using it??? It would be 10 times the power.

I'd think they'd prefer to avoid doing that for a number of reasons.
1) Any Claymore could find them if Miata's sixth sense analysis is correct. They'd radiate Yoki like an active Awakened (probably including the three that are not semi-Awakened).
2) Any Awakened would know where they are as well. They are hunting Priscilla, and we've seen how sensitive she has become. She knew what was happening in the Northern battle from a great distance away. I'm sure Agatha is what brought them to the city, rather than their search for Galatea (but Clare's guess where she was hiding might have brought them in that direction, just like it did for Clarice and Miata).
3) It's been 7 years since the Slashers within the Seven have been "semi-Awakened." Any Claymore knows from her early training that once you begin to go over the limit, it is only a matter of time until you fully Awaken. Riful described them as ripening fruit, using Yoki would only make it go faster. They are a special case, but they certainly can't be too careful.

That's my point yes. They do not sweat any youki that Galatea can feel... and she was the strongest at feeling Yoki.
Nowadays, as stated before, Miata seems better at doing this and certainly the one giving directions.
Galatea needs good training from the 7, she's behind now, she has to work hard to regain her rank as best yoki sensing Claymore.

Some corrections on the less important members of the band of seven. Tabatha was the one guiding the attacks, she is recognizable because she only has one braid which is on her right side and she always looks really serious. Also Tabatha's thigh highs are connected to a garter belt like Miria's while Cynthia's (who has a braid on either side of her head) are free like Clare's. Cynthia also looks more playful and childish, often smirking or smiling.
The only one with long hair is obviously Yuma, who wears a full body suit like Helen and Deneve but with more 'stuff' on it and generally looks out of her element and depressed.

There are so many claymores and ex-claymores that its hard to keep up the names...
But after reading chapter 78, I've felt like those 7 got so much stronger. In terms of power, I'd like to say Claire and Miria would be the same, but Claire would have the potential to have more power since she inherited Teresa's power while being the main character (main character almost always become the strongest later)
I'd like to see them recruiting Galatea for their cause, but I think Galatea will say something like "I have to protect this town" or some bs. Is it me or this chapter's monster's "True Form" look a lot like..whats her name...Ritful?
Someone also mentioned that Claire uses wind cutter from Flora...I thought she used Flash sword that she learned from Irene?
And in this chapter, Claire said that the accuracy of her technique went up while the power decreased...is that an improvement after 7 years of training?
Oh, and its been a while since I read the manga and watched the anime, but did Claire fight Priscilla in the manga yet? or was it just in the anime?
And finally, I'd like to say that Galatea is the best looking claymore, coming from a male reader.

The "true form" was actually the one claire cut up, the naked woman. The one that resembled Riful was her fake 'true form'.
As for her technique, she uses both. Originally she learned flash sword (pre time skip)...after the war in the north (during the 7 year time skip) she also learned Wind Cutter. This was because wind cutter doesn't require yoki, whereas flash sword requires the user to fully awaken their arm. And during thier absence they were all trying to avoid using any yoki to avoid detection.
When she said her accuracy had increased but the power had decreased, i believe she was talking about her flash sword....as that was the technique galatea witnessed when they faced Riful/Duff. At that time, claire could do it but not control where the slashes went. Now she has better accuracy, but because she's avoiding using excessive amounts of yoki (thats my theory atleast), its power has decreased.
And lastly, no claire and priscilla haven't fought in the manga yet.

I don't think she meant the flash sword specifically since she can't use it again until the gang decides that it's okey for them to use yoki. Which they haven't.
So I think that the reason the power has gone down is because the windcutter is weaker than the flash sword. But since she has been able to practice that for so long her accuracy has gone up (in general).
I think there is a fairly good chance of Galatea joining the ghosts, just give her a pill to make her yoki disappear :P However, I don't see this happening because Galatea is a loner, she has exposed her yoki (it seems lame to use a pill and join the gang) and her powers are already complemented with the other members. The only reason I see for her joining would be a bigger party and her powers to tweak yoki flow (which doesn't really work all that well against stronger AB's) being a very small reason...

In claymore, authors have been strong enough to give us so few details so that they can come up with lots of surprises.
I wouldn't be too surprised to see Galatea progress by a huge leap just by getting closer to the 7.
Why?
Because she is very talented and maybe only needs to know that her limits are a lot higher than she thought. She may realize that the 7 did go much further than what she thought was possible. Thus may be able to get there (or even only half the way) very quickly.
And thanks for pointing out her ability to tweak yoki, as it is certainly a very handful skill she has that could prove very useful if brought to the level of control Claire or Miria have for their powers.

I'm also quite interested in seeing what happens with Galatea. The point about her still using her yoki to fight slipped my mind - that certainly makes her incompatible with the 7 if they're going for any sort of stealth approach.
I like the way this fight played out. It's pretty much a clue-in to how Riful can be defeated, since her "outer form" is probably just a larger, tougher, and more powerful version of Agatha. Before, it was like "okay she's just this mass of wires, how do you kill her?"
I was also thinking about the way the group of 7 is set up character-wise. If Clare wasn't the main character of the manga, wouldn't Miria fall in pretty close to that role?
