I had a problem with my windows media player. I couldn't watch streamed videos so i got mad and downloaded a shit load of media players and codec pacs. this rly screwed up all of my media players so i deleted them all exept for windows media player. But this one is still screwed now i still can't watch streamed files and i also can't watch normal video files.

So my question is: is there a way to clean/delete all codecs i have and install 1 good codec pack?

1. Download CCCP Insurgent (CCCPi) (http://www.cccp-project.net/downloadi.php) and run it. The Codec/Filter Packs list should be filled with all previous codec packs that you currently have or might have had installed at one time on your computer. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and find all the packs that were listed by CCCPi. (Those that were marked by CCCPi with Uninstalled are no longer on your computer, so don't look for them) Remove (uninstall) those packs. Confirm with "Yes to all" if you are asked whether to delete certain files or not. If you are asked whether you want to reboot, then reboot but after that come back to the Add/Remove programs list and keep on removing all other packs that CCCPi has listed in Codec/Filter Packs. Do not touch the Register Filter and Unregister Filter buttons.

2. Uninstall all other individual codecs, filters (like DirectVobSub, ffdshow, CoreVorbis, CoreAAC, etc.) You can keep DivX or XviD if you want to, or if you plan on encoding with DivX or XviD.

3. Reboot the computer (this is important)

4. Install the CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/download.php). Answer "yes" when it asks you if you want to reset all settings.

5. During the install it will ask you to select either Media player classic or Zoomplayer. I've had luck with both so select one and change each of the three options for it.

6. Stop using Windows Media Player (period these two players it comes with are far better)

7. Watch Anime

If memory servers you are a professional, DF, but is that really necessary? Personally I haven't restarted before the end, only clicked later in the middle of the process. But then again, I haven't had such excessive problems, because I haven't ever tried to install "a shit load of media players and codec pacs", like Turkish-S so colourfully described it.
