"Based on the seinen manga by Kazuto Izumi, serialised in Sunday GX.

The anime centers around two sisters - Kyou (age 15) and Asu (age 9) - whose mother died from an illness and whose father, heavily in debt, mysteriously disappeared.

Now they are living in a small and miserable apartment from the few money the older sister gets for her part-time job. But as long as they have each other and are supported by kind people they continue their every-day life never losing the bright smiles on their faces nor their strong spirit.

This is a heartwarming story about two poor, yet happy, sisters."

So I watched 3 eps of this so far... I personally like it but unless there are closet sentamentalists here on GW, I don't imagine this series being popular with the rest of you. Perhaps someone can prove me wrong on this one ;)

I'd say it's almost on par with Aishiteruze Baby but perhaps not as overly cute. You just get a lot of sweet sisterly moments and see the extent of their relationship through the everyday situations they happen to encounter. The art's decent and the animation isn't terrible. So if you're looking for a quiet series (so far) it might just be a refreshing thing to watch compared to alot of the shounen type of stuff out there.

(Thanks, Bud, for the info)

I'm pretty sure Ashiteruze Baby got a good following here. I for one enjoyed the series.

Nothing is grabbing me here like Ai Baby did. I was looking forward to this since a lot of people were as well in other forums and channels, but three episodes is enough for me. I like series that are similar to this (ARIA, Kamichu, etc) but there's nothing really keeping me watching it.

For those sticking with it, enjoy it.

Hmm.. I do seem to recall a thread here on Aishiteruze... the differences between that series and Binbou, though, are that Binbou seems to take itself more seriously in terms of subject matter and neither character really goes out of her way to make herself adorably cute (unlike Yuzu-- still love her onigiri song). While there are moments where the viewer might smile, Binbou doesn't really have any humorous moments and it doesn't drastically sway between drama and comedy the way Aishiteruze did.

I think that's why I couldn't really imagine GWers really embracing this particular series. The pace in Binbou is kind of monotonous. I personally like how there isn't much of a storyline and how it's slow-paced but I also think that most people wouldn't really care for this particular style of animation/storytelling. But hey, if you're reading this and you're still intrigued, give it a shot. Binbou just might pleasantly surprise you.
