Heard many good things about the manga, haven't checked it out myself. Seems like it'll have plenty of comedy and parody, so most of you should like it.

Episode 1 released by ADTRW:
http://raspberryheaven.net/~adtrw/torrents/NHK_01_ADTRW.torrent

"Based on a novel by Takimoto Tatsuhiko, turned into a manga with illustration by Ooiwa Kenji.

Japanese shut-ins, loli h-games and conspiracies, oh my!

The existence of the evil organization of "NHK", I happened to find it. All the reasons why I dropped out from the university, being unemployed and a "Hikikomori" - homicidal young person - are due to NHK`s conspiracy. I`ll keep fighting till the day I will beat the vice organization.

But one day, an assassin from a religious group, shows up to kill me. She is a neat and beautiful girl, Misaki-chan, with a parasol. Who is she? What can save our future contaminated with eroticism, violence and drugs? Love, courage, or friendship?

This is an ultimate non-stop Hikikomori Action Comic!"

Not a lot of discussion in here. :( It's too bad, I thikn this shoow is great. It's unlike anyhting I've seen before in the directing. The odd angles and psychedelic cutscenes all feel very smooth and fluid to me and they keep me drawn into the story well. I didn't think Satou would merge so fluidly with the erotica world, though it's not that surprising...I did, (as did many of you, though most would never admit it). The thing I like about this guy is that he's so like something I could see myslef as that I'm curious to see wheather he will make the choices I would make.

Case in point, I definately jepoardized system resources for anime when i first started dling fansubs and DVD Rips (and porn), I know a few guys on the irc channel who run with 1-3% free space with all they stuff they have...(get a DVD Burner darkshadow!).

The moral is...WATCH NHK!

EDIT: @ time 16:55 when Yamazaki is scolding Satou for his massive porn collection it wasn't 12 Gigs it was 120 (from Oyasumi IRC channel)

Well I also am enjoying this show, it is a great fictional character study. For the most part the show's audience is the type that can relate somewhat to what is happening which makes it scary and yet all the more funny. It also doesn't hurt that Satou is addicted to practically everything imaginable.

I wonder how long this series will be, the manga is up to chapter 25 but so far the anime has only covered 2 chapters with the first 3 episodes. They are adding some scenes into the anime and also changing the series some events happen, which doesn't really make that big of a deal. For instance: In the first episode they removed the drugs he takes when he goes into that trip and the appliances start talking, they all tone down his fantasies about Misaki which are all understandable since it is on TV.

Anyway Yukimura is correct; Watch NHK!

I hope you mean 25 volumes...it's slated for 24 episodes...I just looked on ANN and the manga is apparently only up to 4 volumes. This will be interesting, hopefully they can draw the series out enough to fit without it getting to boring.

Apraxhren
Fri, 07-28-2006, 12:22 AM
Nope actually only 24 chapters so far have been scanlated. Which according to what Evil Genius names the files is the start of volume 05. The story seems to have atleast a few more chapters to go as well so they won't run out of material. I wouldn't worry about it getting boring, the parts the are eloborating in the anime are parts like when he is searching for the files and dreams up that whole fishing experiance. Those parts are often quite funny and fit in perfectly.

When Yamazaki was scolding Satou he mentioned three names, which the people of Oyasumi pointed out in a note.

I'm loving this series..when they mentioned the term 'NEET', I immediately thought of a friend of mine :D (he's the kind of eat-sleep-anime/game person.. no school, work or whatever :p)

@RyougaZell: I'll follow your advice (even though saying that you shouldn't look only makes you want to look :p That's the human psyche) , but what exactly did you see? some kiddypr0n or something? :D

I'm really wondering if Satou will sign the contract or that the series is about him overcoming his hikkikomori without it..

Another fun episode, though with less freaky imagery than before. Satou's journey into the otaku (is that the right word?) world is quite entertaining. But I wonder what he was doing those three years if he wasn't gaming or using the internet. I imagine drugs and watching the TV are likely suspects.

Want to elaborate?

It might be the translation but when Satou says: "My mom is just average" she responds "What does that make me?"

also, before that, when she was saying Satou was lucky to have a mother like that, what she said after that was "Compared to that, I am..." (which could be interpreted as she has lousy parents, but also as, she is a lousy mother, especially coupled with the other statement)

Well not quite the exact quotes from the Oyasumi release are as follows:

At 15:55
Misaki: Satou-kun is fortunate to have a wonderful mother like you. In comparison to me.

The subject of the comparison is Satou not Satou's mother. So unless it was actually translated bad there isn't any proof in that one. However, the second of the lines lends to the possiblity that you speculated.

At 18:50
Misaki: Satou-kun's mother is wonderful.
Satou: Is she?
Misaki: Yeah.
Satou: Not really, she's just average.
Misaki: Average, huh? In that case, I'm no good I can't even manage to be average.

At first I read that to mean Misaki was not average because of her parents, but as you see this time she is comparing herself to Satou's mother. Although it is not 100% proof it does support your idea. This all hinges on the fact that we all trust the translation which I assume most of us do, as she could have said "I'm an alien" and all of us that do not know Japanese would have no clue.

mnn i kinda get the feeling not very many people are watching it either...like i did think that the first two episodes were a little full on, my friends woudln't watch ouran high school host club case they only saw up to the twins forbidden love lol =/ first impressions count!

Well, I'm pretty sure there is many people watching this series, it's just that they aren't talking about it.

This episode was great, I also thought that Satou would be the one to stop the suicide, being the one that didn't want to kill himself at all. It was funny, when everyone decided not to kill themselves, the only one that didn't want to wanted to at the end.

It's funny that he gets himself in these positions so much worse, as he plays along with it, even though he knows what it's doing.

With Misaki saying those things about herself, the episode that came to mind was the one where they meet up with his mother and Misaki says something along the lines about Satou's mum, being better than her. This has reignited the theory to me about that she might've already have had a kid, but gave it up or something along those lines. Although, I think that someone said it was the translation that made it sound that way.

Well, she did call herself a stray dog, so she might not have any friends and can't really make any if the person isn't more pathetic than she is.

on the show. I really think Satou wanted kill himself from the beginning. i mean he WAS going along with all of it, and it wasn't him that stopped the chain. In the end he actually admitted to himself that dying with his sempai was better than living without.
on the other hand, it seems that whenever a woman asks him to do something he does... this would show how far he'd go ;)

Finished watching episode 14 and 15 earlier, nice couple of episodes.

Also seen that Misaki was probably abused alot when she was younger when she was with her father and mother maybe, is what I gather from the scenes we saw from when Satou raised his hand at her. They only tell little things about her, we're slowly getting more information about her as episodes go on.

Satou gets into the MMORPGs, and becomes even worse than he was, heh.
Seems he gets over the games pretty quickly though, if you consider the name of episode 16.

Well not really, they are both based off of a light novel, which it seems no one has read so I don't know where the manga differes from the novel. It has been said however that the anime follows the novel more, they both use the same story line just what the charaters say and do is a little different.

Both Yamazaki and Misaki are really trying to help out Satou on many different occasions, but he throws it back in their faces.

Satou really got involved in the game, but what happened here was not all that false either, the sad thing is that it does happen. The thirty year future thing was bad, at least that's not going to happen, or will it, dun dun dun.

Now, an old high school classmate has done a chance phone call and he meets up with her, she has changed quite a bit from the photo that's in the year book.

Satou's been shopping the whole time, right? so it clearly doesn't work for him.
The only reason he's being fed at the moment is bc he's too poor.

heh...as the guy said... when you're at sea, you either sail or die in the most horrible way.
seriously, Satou can't really be considered a hikkikomori anymore no? He's out more often than me during exam periods. and he HAS a job (or occupation if that's what you wanna call it). whether he's making money or not is irrelevent in this case no?

He doesn't have a job. The only thing he did that you could call a job was RMT, but he stopped doing that.

He's writing the scenario with Yamazaki, he's not being paid but he is doing something meaningful, which puts him just above the hikki line.

^ Satou is past the hikki line for sure now, he isn't afraid to go outside anymore or has the creator forgot about that fact when he was creating this section ^_^

They stopped following what the creator created a LONG time ago, sadly.

Another good episode, I don't remember an episode that I didn't like. It was nice to let the attention focus on Yamazaki a bit, get to know him a bit more. I liked the idea of him going back to the farm, as now he thinks he doesn't need anything in Tokyo, which is true in a way, he just wants to complete the game, it seemed that he thought the game wasn't going to do anything for him (make him money), he just wanted it complete.

The way he 'broke up' with Nanako was something as well, that'd be pretty freaky, it was cool how she punched him. It seems that they may put this in the game, that's why it was being recorded, but I also think that it may be a way for them to get together, not so much boyfriend/girlfriend, but as even normal friends again. He may have the protagonist not even get close to Nanako, or some sorry kind of thing, not sure just blurting out shit here.

Indeed this show keeps on delivering the goods. I thought the Nanako scene was particularly because for a few moments there it appeared that he had a shot at her if he'd said the right things (though I'm not sure he realized that), however he still went ahead and pushed until the relationship broke. I was expecting him to stop after revealing what he thought would break the relationship and then become so amazed that she still accepted him that he would instantly fell in love with her and make peace. I was impressed that he actually kept pushing until she chose to end things...a lot like a person might do when they doesn't want to feel bad about breaking up with someone so they just push the other person into breaking up with them first.

Yamazaki!!!! They did a good job of sending him away, it was very touching and emotional, I don't think I ever liked Yamazaki as much as I did as he was getting on the train. I wonder what Satou and his Sempai will get into before Misaki finds them and makes jumps to a wildly inaccurate conclusion.

the song they played for yamazaki was pretty nice, but for some reason i feel that there is something going to happen like the game doing good from the 5 ppl it was sold too ^_^

Yeah, I also see the game doing good, some game developer might've got his hands on it, be funny if it turned into an anime or movie and Yamazaki's girl was in it as 'herself'.

Satou gets lucky with finding people he knows in very crowded places, they will probably go do this hatsumoude together instead of with Misaki.

I like how he's saying that without Yamazaki he'll regress back into a hikikiomori, it gives off that he was more cured some what. As he's been able to go into public places, especially a train station and walk back home without going crazy.

This episode was great!
It gave some insight on how miserable Misaki is, and that the story is starting to wrap things up :(

First the goodbye of Yamazaki, and now the goodbye of Hitomi... I'm wondering if Misaki will be next..
2 episodes left, and so many things to wrap up.. or a second season... *hopes*

Is there a manga of this series?

Yukimura

@ Harima: Yes, there is a manga but I've heard that anime passed it and is making up its own story.

I was quite surprised by how messed up Misaki seems to be. I figured she was just eccentric and helpful, but with a shady past but it looks like she was seriosly abused emotionally, if not physically as well. The way they showed Satou and Hitomi happily chatting away in different places as Misaki was always running around one step behind was nice, but after beien stabbed so many times with a pity knife it started to get annoying.

Satou's fantasy sequences about Hitomi were very well done. It showed that both of them truly regret not hooking up while they had the chance in high school and after 4 years of separation, they can't ever go back to the good old times. The goodbye scene was beautiful yet sad.

Another good episode and finally some insight into Misaki's background. It seems she was abused when she was a little younger and has had such an effect on her, that she turned out this way. As Yukimura said "I figured she was just eccentric and helpful", that's how I saw it also. It seems Satou is like the last resort to her life, and if he doesn't need her than no one else will, because in her opinion Satou is lower than her.

I wonder if she'll try and kill herself or something, and Satou saves her, a complete reversal from a few episodes back.

This is also a novel.

Wow, I felt something this coming but not like that. When Sato saw that contract he should have known something serious was wrong....It was basically a marriage proposal.

I know there'll probably be a cookie cutter happy ending but part of me hopes that he gets there too late and she dies and then he resolves to make something of himself in honor of her.

Really nice episode, good conclusion of the series.
I'd really like to see an OVA or something that shows us what happens to them in the future, since the ending was kind of open on that area. (or I'm just too stupid to see it..)

Overall a great series. I impatiently awaited the newest episodes, and to me that is a sign of a good series.

And thus concludes another fabulous series. I thought the final episode was very well done. It was wacky but realistic at the same time. There was no melodramatic love scene that you see in most other series in situations like this.

Definitely one of the better series I've seen in my career.

A good ending, although I was dissapointed to see Yamazaki with a new girl and that the outcome of the selled games was left out.

I believe that Satou said that they had to face the truth: that their game sucked. He said it in the episode where Yamazaki left.
If that was just his impression or the cold hard truth, I don't know.

I totally forgot to thank Oyasumi for subbing this great series :)

Excellent, though.

Watching this in the one sitting would've been good, as after each episode you just want more, because every episode is great, I don't remember a bad episode.

Another great series that's ended and it was a good way to wrap things up, it showed what was needed.
