This reminds me of Ocarina of Time:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060417/ap_on_hi_te/paper_clip_to_house_5.

MacDonald's blog: http://oneredpaperclip.blogspot.com (http://oneredpaperclip.blogspot.com/)

The guy went from a paperclip, through a pen, doorknob, camping stove, generator, a "party package", a snowmobile, a trip to Yahk, a van, a recording contract, and now has a duplex. But he's not stopping and still has the goal of a house in mind. Pretty cool and interesting.

I remember seeing this a little while back. Good to see he's actually getting somewhere with this halfbaked idea! I wish I could come up with one of these schemes. It's sort of like the first person that sold a grilled cheese with the virgin Mary burned into it on ebay; Great idea but now the market is flooded.

Edit:
@ Xollence below, I was just about to post that hahaha http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/

Sold 100 pixel ad space for $100 or as Xollence said $1 per pixel, but 100 was the minimum. He already ran out of space, so apparently he's made his million.

Hehe that's an awesome idea. It's like that guy that made the milliondollarpage and sold each pixel for one dollar.

Wow this is genius. It's hard to believe that he traded away a red paper clip for a pen. It's easy to see that once this thing became big, people were simply trading to be involved in the phenomenon. The biggest problem was probably trading the paper clip for the pen, and then the pen for the door knob.

who would trade a camping stove for a doornob?

props to this guy. this is truly one of the craziest things i've ever heard of. although it makes me sad for not accomplishing anyhting in my life :(. As for what BOC said, ya that would've been the biggest obstacle. However, the pen -> door knob thing was pure luck. It just so happened that the artist liked the idea behind the whole barter system of the website, so she gave him something worth alot more then a pen.

i wonder where he would've been if he hadn't gotten that door knob....?

Where would he have been if he had a blue paperclip?

That's very true. I have a number of regular, silver paperclips, but no one wants them :p.

who would trade a camping stove for a doornob?
Apparently the guy had 2 camping stoves...and need a doorknob.

MacDonald's description of the doorknob is also kinda funny. "...this l’il sculpted mofo looks like E.T. after he smoked a bat."
