Seems like an OVA, first episode released by yu:

http://a.scarywater.net/yu/Kyou_no_5_no_2_-_1_%5Byu%5D.torrent

"This one-volume manga by Sakuraba Koharu portrays the fifth grade in a... different light. The chapters ran in Young Magazine, a relatively small publication, and were then released in volume form, when it gained some cult following.

What makes this manga particularly unique is not it`s characters, which represent fairly run-of-the-mill manga personalities like those found in FLCL, Azumanga, and even Sister Princess--which should give you a pretty good idea of what does make this manga interesting: the perfect blend of school humor, plain ridiculousness, and raging sexual innuendo.

Ah, fifth grade like you wish you remembered it! "

First episode was very funny. Hope it can stay that way with the rest of the OVAs.

Triad released their version which should be the superior version, and the one I'm keeping:

The first episode was absolutely great! Quite ruthless humour indeed.

A wicked anime, to say the least.

I definitely enjoyed the first eps. An Azumanga Daioh where all the characters are Chiyo's age. Even if its just an OVA, I'll be keeping an eye on this one. I think I like Chika and Megumi the most so far. The part with Natsumi was good too.

It might be easy to compare this to Azumanga Daioh, but considering how much "raging sexual innuendo" there is, I'm not so sure that comparison is anywhere near accurate. So many of the jokes were based on that, or lead to that sooner or later. There's almost nothing like that in Azumanga, for sure.

I was referring more to the brief 5-minute mini-episodic format and slice of life genre than the humor and general plot lines of Azumanga. I also recall one or two particular eps where the girls of Azumanga got Nyamo drunk at the beach cottage and she told them alllll about being a woman (admittedly it was all silent, but the expressions on their faces are priceless. Nyamo's too, when Chiyo asked for some clarification the next morning).

Aye, you are absolutely right about the technical aspects (mini-episodic format). I failed to consider that. My mistake.

The second episode was truly great as well. This is a bloody hilarious ova series:

Episode 2 - Doremi-DeltaAnime (http://a.scarywater.net/doremi/%5BDoremi.DA-Subs%5D.Today.in.class.5-2.OVA2.%5B18672334%5D.avi.torrent)

Triad has released their version of eps 2

[Triad] Today in Class 5-2 (http://a.scarywater.net/triad/%5BTriad%5D_Today_in_Class_5-2_-_02.avi.torrent)

Same format as before, 4 very funny shorts with any combination of the characters, with Hirakawa again being left looking like she was molested in some way and the vampire girl Aihara up to something weird. The final part was again about Ryouta and his potentially budding relationship with Chika.

It looks like we will get more 5-2 goodness early next year! 24th of January and 21st of March seem to be the days of reckoning. Well, that's what you can deduct with no Japanese skills when visiting the official site (http://www.avexmovie.jp/lineup/5-2/syo.html), anyway (which will also serve as my disclaimer...). Although the Triad site projects section (http://www.the-triad.org/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=1) affirms that as well, so it's not like my missing language skills were my only source of hope.

Some nameless lone subber (I think) was the first to sub the third ova:

Episode 3 - y_m (http://nyaatorrents.org/?page=download&tid=533)

Unfortunately I also have to report it wasn't nearly as funny as the first or second episodes. It was still very well worth watching, but the humour was somewhat more dull and more direct, which meant missing much of the "raging sexual innuendo" type of humour of the earlier episodes. I guess they are running out of ideas.

Well, like I said, still a good watch, nonetheless.

Agreed. I found this episode too slapstick and less situational comedy. Anyway, I hope at least the main characters develop before this short one ends.

I'll wait for Triad's release, but I think they've already done a good job at developing Chika and Ryota's relationship from the past two episodes. They showed that she likes him when she almost kissed him in the first episode, and he clearly likes her from the dream he had where Chika seduced him in the second episode.

They really don't have to bother to go that deep, they're fifth grade elementary students. I don't know what else you're really looking for, this isn't Suzuka, KimiNozo, or a random cross-section out of the myriad of copycat bishonen romance series.

Im looking for a confession at least. Is that really so odd? Even though its obvious, since they ARE japanese 5th graders.

This series clearly develop from pure comedy to drama comedy towards the end. If you compared the first and last episodes, there difference would be more than evident, I deem. So, if I consider it from that point of view, I can't say I'd be disappointed with it at all. But otherwise, from pure comedic point of view, it surely declined during the latter half. Still, it was fine. Kind of pity it's over.

A crap sub (kind of literally) of an extra:

Special 4 - Coprology (http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=torrentinfo&tid=25581)

Needless to say, the sub left much to be desired. Don't expect anything resembling QC, at least. The special itself was fine, though. Pretty funny.

Woot! I'll download it when I get home. Are there other more specials?

Kraco

A good question. AniDB lists a couple of other specials but I possess no knowledge of what they might be, though I'm pretty sure nobody has ever subbed them if they even are indeed valid material. This one apparently was shipped on some special edition DVD, or something.

Nyaatorrents seems to be going up and down, down and up quite erratically today. I needed to wait an hour before I could get the torrent as well, and the tracker had again gone down before I finished downloading the ep (no damage due to that, though, with DHT). But it's somewhat annoying for sure.

I shall raise this necro-thread for a new purpose!

This series, written by the same mangaka as Minami-ke, once again fills the void of series that Azamanga Diaoh, Lucky Star, Pani Poni Dash, and other mindlessly fun referential slice of life anime series do. Or at least it should have.

[Chihiro]_Kyou_no_Go_no_Ni_01_[h264][01278ED1].mkv (http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=torrentinfo&tid=35160)

Yes it is Chihiro, but frankly...after seeing the first episode, it really doesn't matter who subs this.

Fans of the OVAs:

- Remember how good the episodes looked?
Well guess what, that is all gone now. (OVA first, current series second)
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/3561/72jk1.th.jpg (http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=72jk1.jpg)http://img223.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/7721/kyou20no20520no20220200kr2.th.jpg (http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=kyou20no20520no20220200kr2.jpg)http://img223.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)
Now, it is one thing to say that the old version was an OVA and those are usually given a much larger budget. But the OVA didn't really look like anything extraordinary before, it looked pretty much exactly like the two Minami-ke series did. Now it looks worse than most series I've seen in recent memory.

- Remember how perfectly the cast fit, how it was crammed with star talent who really seemed to fit each of their respective roles?
Guess what, total and complete recasting.

- Thinking that maybe you can live with that all, you just want new stories?
The first two parts are directly from the OVA, and the others are either long, drawn out, or otherwise totally uninspired and not really all that entertaining.

For me, huge pass on this series. I was looking forward to it too...

I looked at the screencaps on randomc, and it seems it's being done by a different studio. I much preferred the older one, but if it's still the same mindless fun, why not?

It's a nice start :). I prefer the old OVA's art style though.
