As I mentioned in the 2nd GIG thread, there was more GitS in the making:
http://forums.gotwoot.net/showthread.php?t=6438

It's called Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society
A new anouncement can be found here:
http://animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=8575
http://www.productionig.com/contents/news/2006/03/gits_sac_sss_tr.html

But apparently it seems like it'll be a movie, though I'm wishing that they'll make another series on the Stand Alone Complex storyline, I really liked it.

Anyone else has any news on this?

Come on, I can't be the only one who is excited with more Ghost in the Shell being made...

Well I got more info, it'll be a movie and it'll be released this summer, so we won't have to wait a hugeass time like we did with Innocence.

I'm pretty excited about this news. SAC is one of my favorite series. An official "3rd Gig" would be really cool, but this is nice as well. Looking forward to more info on this.

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is the best news i seen other than school rumble second season!~!
a movie, and it out this summer, omg that so nice@!!!!
ghost in the shell is one of the best anime i have seen, (although i don't understand most dialoge@@.....but the action scenes are wonderful@ and the music too!)

but how come only LMF sub it@?

btw does anyone know where to dl innocence? i dled one from some chinese fourm but it was simplified chinese.........and pretty bad quality.........

While we're talking about quality, how about improving the quality of your writing. All the @'s, !~!'s, the giant ".................." and that random underline are really annoying. Please refrain from this kind stuff in the future.

Even more information:

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society, a full length movie based on Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex is currently planned for completion in the summer of 2006.

The production announcement does not specifically state release format, or date. The movie is being produced in Hi-Vision, a format used by Japanese broadcast networks to support wide-screen televisions. The same production team, including main staff, will be carried over from the TV series. The budget, while not specified, is said to be higher in order to achieve a cinematic level of production.

The 100-minute (tentative running time) movie takes place in 2034, two years after the refugee riot incident. A significantly larger Section 9, with over 20 new officers, investigates terrorist actions related to a wizard-like hacker “Kugutsu Mawashi.”

(Kugutsu Mawashi translated into English is roughly "Puppet Master." Kugutsu Mawashi is not the same as the "Puppet Master" from the first Ghost in the Shell Movie. In Japanese, the "Puppet Master" from the first movie was called "Ningyo Tsukai" which can also translated into "Puppet Master.")

The production committee will comprise Production I.G., along with Bandai Visual, Bandai Entertainment, Dentsu Corporation, Nihon TV Broadcasting (NTV), Manga Entertainment, Tokuma Publishing, and Victor Entertainment.

I'm al ittle worried that the plot of the movie will be rushed because SAC plot took all 26 eps to be exposed and even then parts were still cloudy at best. I'm going to wait and see how this turns out.

Hehe, no clue on what he said... But the action does seem to be good. It also seems like the Major is betraying or going against Section-9 for some reason, or at least there's someone that looks like her fighting against Batou.

Apperantly (I don't remember where I read it) It's 2 years after 2nd gig and Major had quit Section 9 and Tougasa is now the commanding officer. Which is why it looks like the major is going against section-9

Bandai Entertainment USA sent out a press release today warning fansubbers that they may be prosecuted for fansubbing Bandai titles, specifically Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society.

Several fansub sites have publicly announced plans to create and distribute illegal fansubs of Solid State Society following its release in Japan. However, Bandai Entertainment Inc. and Manga Entertainment have secured the exclusive right to distribute this title in the US. The creation of translated versions of Solid State Society is considered an unauthorized derivative and constitutes infringement of the intellectual property rights in the work as well as unfair competition. Furthermore, uploading and downloading of the programs without an official license or explicit consent by the content owner(s) constitutes infringement of copyright, trademark and other intellectual property rights, and is an illegal act. Bandai must take steps to protect its investment in the property and will take all measures available to stop the illegal distribution of its titles, including instituting court proceedings. If it is forced to do so, Bandai is prepared to seek statutory damages and/or damages to cover its loss of sales.

“Fansubs, even those not sold for profit, are harmful to our properties and industry overall and we will be watching closely to make sure our rights regarding SSS are not infringed,” said Ken Iyadomi, President of Bandai Entertainment Inc. “We are prepared to take legal action against fansubbers and illegal download and other distribution sites if this notice is ignored,” he added.

Booooo, screw you Bandai! Why should we wait for their slow asses and poor dubbing. Anyway I'm sure at least one fansub group on earth is based outside the US, and fortunately the internet really doesn't care what country you come from.

Kraco
Wed, 08-23-2006, 03:10 AM
Yeah. That's hardly surprising. Gits is a pretty big and high profile title, and very good as an example case in the fight the corporations try to wage against fansubbers.

Well, since I don't live in the US and the US dvds are compromised material for me (I haven't even cracked my dvd drivers for area codes), I'm somewhat forced to agree with Yukimura. If the US release is slow, you can bet the release over here is going to be even slower. It would be either a British import dvd or a Scandinavian local release for me, should I buy it.

Why should we wait for their slow asses

That is one thing I dont understand about this. If they dont want someone to sub it, why do we all have to wait a year in the US to see it? When they release a hollywood blockbuster, they release it all over the world the same weekend.

I hope that all these new pay-per download movie services going up by the studios in the US helps the situation, and lets bandai for example, release something online to us foreigners.

one of my friends visiting japan, and understands japanese has seen it, lucky punk, one more motivation to keep learning for me :)

Hopefully they have plans to do an early release of the movie, else I don't see why they would be so agressive to stop fansubbing before the movie even comes out in Japan.

Munsu

I've seen rumors to the effect that the announcement about not subbing it might have been intended to increase interest in the show. While unprecendented to my knowledege, something like this would certainly allow a large share of potential customers to hear about the movie quickly, as the grapevine of the fansub community is so fast. Add in a prohibition against it and you might make people wonder what's so great about it that they want to preemptively threaten fansubbers.

Aye. I had to fix the subtitle file by removing exactly 5 seconds from the timings. Then it was spot on.

Nice movie, though. It all made a lot more sense at the very end than during most of the show. Stand-alone (no pun) movies obviously can't easily have as strong and developed plots as long series, but this wasn't bad.

Edit: The srt file with fixed timing included as an attachment. Those who know this stuff also know this fixing was a job worth 2 minutes (had to dig up the program, which took half of it).

It wasn't high-res video, the sound was only stereo, nor should there be any other factors especially burdening your system. So, I think it was either something you didn't yet try, some switch somewhere setting its will against you, or something else was taxing your cpu. It's no necessarily even a setting in your player (whatever player you use), but it could be some antialiasing setting of your video card, or something.

There was also something strange about the video file, or at least what I downloaded. For some reason my WinXP (explorer) was really munching on that file, and forever. So, when I headed with the Windows Explorer to the directory where the avi was, the explorer suddenly started to eat most of my CPU time, and wouldn't cease unless I changed directory or closed the windows explorer. I have no bloody idea what that was all about. So, before I started to watch the movie, I closed down the windows explorer.

But maybe I'm the only one with such a peculiarity present.

Yukimura
Wed, 10-18-2006, 07:52 PM
That is a problem associated with the codec they used and the Windows Explorer video preview feature. It took me a little while to find out what the deal was but essentially that feature and some codecs don't get along at all.

The Fix:
Go to Start -> Run and type in "regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll" no quotes. This will disable the preview feature and it should stop the CPU crunching. If you decide you want the video preview feature back just type "regsvr32 shmedia.dll" in the same prompt to reactivate it.

NOTE: It worked for me but I offer no guarantees, google the command if you want to know more about what it does and wwhy the problem exists in the first place.

I had to do what Kraco did and speed the sub by 5 seconds and it works fine now, I haven't watched the movie yet because I'm waiting to watch it with a GITS buddy of mine, but it all runs smoothly. I'm surprised at the quality of such a small video file.

Kraco
Sun, 10-22-2006, 03:10 AM
I couldn't figure it out, and so I edited the subtitle file itself. Like I indicated in the post where I attached the edited subtitle file, it probably didn't take any more time than changing settings in MPC (had I known how to change those settings)... And it's a better practice in the long run, anyway. Well, assuming I'll archive this and not some better version with subtitles included.

The comments on this torrent say that the last line is missing, and that it can be found here: gequila.livejournal.com/233072.html.

Comparing that to the .srt file from gits-fans, it seems to be correct. Just thought I would mention it in case anyone didnt read the comments on that torrent :)

Well I figured out how to slow down subs thanks to some hand waving and googling and it's actually fairly easy, the only problem is the fact that my S-Video out and the rederer required for the subs to work are not liking one another so I'll have to watch on my regular old screen unless I get the hardsubbed one. Is the last line the only thing wrong with it?

Well, I've finally watched Solid State Society, really don't know why I put off watching it for so long... now that I've watched it I realized how much I missed Ghost in the Shell.

Anyways, I thought this was a nice movie to what seems to end the Stand Alone Complex timeline, though I think there's still potential to have more set in this story line if they wish to continue it.

That said, really liked the final turn of events and the "twist" it had. The final shot with Motoko and Batou was a great way to end the movie/series.

Guess I'll be jumping back to Ghost in the Shell: Arise soon, which seems to be in set in the original movie timeline.
