View Full Version : Your life's motto

I know that this topic is kind of corny but I'm in a interesting mood. This mood has made me ask that question. No rules, just state what your life's motto or words you live your life on. You can put as much depth in to it as you wish, but please make it a sentance. Mine will given out later but I will give my old one

"Life sucks, Get over it!"

anyways, discuss

I do have one actually. It actually comes from a chinese phrase meaning "Why be so serious?". It generally refers to attitude in life and work, as in enjoy it while you can. Youth doesn't last forever. Another one I go by (also translated from chinese proverb) is "Adapting to the situation as it changes", and "Go with the flow". All 3 are some what linked to one's perspective over life, and how not to be so hard on yourself.

"I don't need a reason to live"
Your life belongs to you, so you can do anything you want with it, even lose it. The point in living is that something awesome might happen someday that makes it all worthwhile. Even if not, once you're dead that doesn't matter. In death, things like having lived happily or painfully or having wasted time don't matter.
Basically, life is worth living because it's free. Most of the time it sucks, but there's always the chance that it doesn't. Death might be cool too, but it costs your life.

Try to be best
Cause youre only a man
And a mans gotta learn to take it

Try to believe
Though the going gets rough
That you gotta hang tough to make it

History repeats itself
Try and youll succeed

Never doubt that youre the one
And you can have your dreams!

Youre the best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you down
Youre the Best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you down
Youre the Best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own

Fight til the end
Cause your life will depend
On the strength that you have inside you

Ah you gotta be proud
starin out in the cloud
When the odds in the game defy you

Try your best to win them all
and one day time will tell
when youre the one thats standing there
youll reach the final bell!

Youre the best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you down
Youre the Best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you down
Youre the Best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ho-how-ho-own

INSPIRING GUITAR SOLO

Youre the best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you down
Youre the Best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you down
Youre the Best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own

Fight til you drop
never stop
cant give up
Til you reach the top (FIGHT!)
youre the best in town (FIGHT!)
Listen to that sound
A little bit of all you got
Can never bring you down

Youre the best!
Around!
Nothings gonna ever keep you down
Youre the Best!
Around!

I don't really have just one motto. I guess I employ different one's, based on whatever circumstance I'm in. So I guess a basic motto would be something to do with being able to adapt, sorta like Psyke's.

But my top 3 are:

1. "Don't be sad because it's over. Be happy because it happened." I have to tell myself this alot. Really puts a different perspective on things when I'm regretting something or "yearning for the good old days". As seriously as I take it, this ironically is a quote from Dr. Seuss.

2. "And then you wonder if you saw it, and you did." This is one I made up myself. Its basic message is "It doesn't matter if it's real or not. If you think it is, act on it" as that's about as much as anyone can do. I usually think of this one when I'm doubting my instincts, overanalyzing something or questioning whether I have grounds to act/say something. I also think of this one when to pull my head out of the clouds, when I'm harping on "wouldn't it be nice if..." and "if only..." when there's some stark evidence/experience to the contrary. I like this one cuz it can have lots of different meanings.

3. "Where would you rather be than right here, right now?" This is a quote from Marv Levy, the former coach (and current head of football operations) for the Buffalo Bills. This really isn't a motto, I know. But if you ask yourself it you'll find out alot about yourself and the situations you're often in. It is also a good motivational question. Depending on how you answer you might realize that you just have to grit it out and keep going on whatever path you chose. Other times you'll figure out that you are really in a spot you don't want to be, and that you'd be better off doing something else or going elsewhere.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

What does that even mean in the end... It's like an anti-excuse as it attempts to negate the need to explain. Certainly it's no advice.

Heh. Yeah, I certainly didn't mean to imply anything. But when my dull mind once in a while happens to come up with something witty, and moreover it happened to be the single day in a year when it actually was witty, the only choice was to post. As a joke. Your post did give the intended impression, though. I just twisted it a bit.

I know it was a joke, but I just wanted to clear things up, since some people (not gonna name names) are so fucking serious about everything. They would have been like, "OMFG, Ero-Fan is such a scum-bag!" Not that this is that far off.
My second motto: " Work is a good place to catch up on your sleep. Or post messages on a forum."

I have a few:

"Never go back on your word": I make a promise, or say I will do something, and I do it. I heard one time that a man has no greater honor than his word, and thought that was a pretty good code to live by. This was also influenced by Naruto somewhat.

I also have a moral code which I TRY to live by, yet rarely succeed. That is simply to put others ahead of myself, but to disregard the wants of others if there is some higher priority. So in order of importance, I try to tend to: 1. What needs to be done. 2. The needs/wants of others. And then, 3. The needs/wants of myself.

"Make them proud': This is just to remind me of how much I have in my life, and that none of it should be wasted. I always feel I owe a lot to the people who have made sacrifices for me (not just my parents, either). So this is kind of a motivational motto. It's similar to one I used to have that went "to whom much is given, much is expected" but that one seemed too rigid and put too much pressure on me, so I settled for one that acknowledged those who support me.

"Live a life without regrets": Simple enough. I'm usually pretty shy person, and I'm not inclined to take chances. This is just to remind me that it's no good sitting around, thinking of what could have been.

"Meh, that's life": Similar to "shit happens"

"Never take raisins from a rabbit": From Baulder's Gate. This one gets a special mention i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

I usually go by the "people can do whatever they want, as long as they keep others out of it." philosophy. It basically means that I don't give two flying shits about what anyone else does with their life, as long as they keep other people out of it. I may find the image of two men having sex horrible, but if guys want to be gay then I really don't care, just don't start doing it in my living room.

I also like "At least your better off than X" This is what I say when any of my friends starts emoing up the place, I just tell them to appreciate what they do have instead of what they don't. If they get upset I just say "at least you still have your family, friends, home etc." and try to get them to appreciate this stuff while they have it. 'Cause you never know when the day will come that you don't have it anymore and you look back and think "I didn't appreciate it/him/her at all." or "I wish I knew them better as a person" or something like that.

For one, it's snappy. You need a snappy motto. Second, well, I've seen too many people give away their honor or integrity for crap. Stealing from a friend, cheating on a spouse, betraying what they believe in for money. Money gets spent, the stuff you buy breaks, the kicks you get are over, and then what are you left with?

I'm talking about observing the offensive situation. In case you didn't know, "the best shot is the shot not taken" means before you take a shot, always look around to see if there's a better choice than shooting. Often there is a better alternative to you taking the shot. Like you mentioned, it doesn't just apply to just basketball or sports in general, but to everything you do in life. Always think thoroughly about the situation before making a decision.

This is probably the one principle I follow the most in life.
