This is one series I've been waiting for...

Episode 1 by BUTTRoCK (ADTRW):

http://raspberryheaven.net/~ad...5DREC_-_01.mkv.torrent (http://raspberryheaven.net/~adtrw/torrents/%5BBUTTRoCK%5DREC_-_01.mkv.torrent)

"Adaption of Q-taro Hanamizawa`s manga into an anime series.

Matsumaru was stood up by a girl whom he had asked to go out with him. When he was trying to throw away the movie tickets, a girl blamed him for wasting the tickets. So, he gave her a ticket, and he went to the movie alone. However, at the theater, he found that girl reading the subtitles aloud.

This is the love story about a common man and a girl who has a dream to be a voice actress. Her apartment was in a fire, and they began to live in the same room together. Meanwhile, she was adopted as the voice actress in the TV commercial of Shomarus companys product."

I see that Buttrock is sponsored through ADTRW, but I have to ask, is this new group any good? I usually have no problem with picking up new groups, but with names like that...

I have been wondering how this series will be, I've been interested by the description for a while.

I've never liked ADTRW, so I think i'll pass at the moment...

gg released a promo for it a while ago, and from what I've seen they are not bad at all...

I'm pretty sure Froth-Bite will do it, so I'm gonna wait for them...

As far the description and character's designs, the series looks quite interesting, but then the fact that's only 9 eps long (12 min each) it's kinda ...If it's that short, why don't make an OVA (5 eps) out of it? Well I guess they have their reasons for not doing it...

Hope the series takes the right path and give us enough drama/character-story development, and not fall into the mistake of been just another "12 min per episode non-sense series"...

looking foward this series...

I've only seen one short 12 minute/episode series which was 13 episodes long, and it was fairly good for what it was... Final Approach

Don't know of any others that were good enough to peak my interest...

Acutally... even if its only 12 minutes (stupid Media player was saying 54 minutes), or maybe because it is only 12 minutes, it is really good! like animation is top notch, story seems interesting, characters are too. all this and the art has a personality, its different in coloring and the sun in the end. there is a lot of thought in it. and well you could say there are interesting metaphors in the art.
by the way, the translation is not so bad.

I liked this series a lot. Whilst there are all kinds of series of high quality, some with some series you just can immediately connect. An instant click. This was one of those for me. I think the reasons are the calm colours and animation used, and especially the characters: They are kind of fateful, single-minded, their profiles are sharp and well defined. No doubt the short lenght of the series has made the creators enhance those factors. But those are also the very traits that make me like series like Berserk or Shingetsutan Tsukihime so much.

Lunar's release was top-notch, at least as far as I can judge.

Let's Rec'n'Roll! The second episode is here:

Episode 2 - Lunar (http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/%5BLunar%5D%20REC%20-%2002%20(XviD)%20%5B3751BCF8%5D.mkv.torrent)

Edit: A very nice second episode. Somehow different compared to the first one, less dramatic, but that's understandable. I have no idea what they have in reserve for the the future episodes plot wise, but I'm looking forward to them.

Second episode was good. That guy got MASSIVELY burned at the end. I couldn't stop laughing after she threw his head to the wall.

Growing to like this alright - I'd say I'll get into this fairly soon.
Characters seem interesting - looking forward to it getting started

I have to say Matsumaru 's character, character design and voice actor match 100%. The VA doesn't seem to have had that many roles (at least according to Animenfo), but he's doing really good work here. The melancholic, somewhat disinterested, gray voice is just perfect for the role. And the voice actor for Onda Aka (who as well does seem to have a short resume) is a perfect counterbalance for the dullness of Marsumaru's voice. Well, I suppose it figures a story about a voice actor must have carefully selected voice actors...

Some random releases, as I grew bored waiting for Lunar subs:
Episode 3 - Ayu (http://www.ayu-anime.net/torrents/torrent.php/%5BAyu%5D_Rec_-_03_%5B1DFF35B0%5D.avi.torrent) (A decent sub, though I don't know the group.)

Episode 4 - Anime-United (http://anime-united.onei-ro.nl/torrent/download.php?action=torrent&info_hash=524547269497 156cdfee3faadcf4e3148b945b6b) (I downloaded the 1st version, this is the 2nd. v1 was somewhat screwed..)

Edit: Both were really good episodes. Subber name fixed. Sorry.

yuck, the animeu episode 4 is shi-tay quality compared to lunar's 1+2. Good series so far though, entertaining to say the least.

There are three airings of REC. That is why the incredible range on quality. In order: One is a web release (terrible quality), two is on a television, and three is on a better quality channel. Lunar waits for the third one, which is why their video quality is consistently good. The other groups oversubbing REC to hell are using one of the earlier two versions.

Also note Kraco, that Anime-United is not the same as AnimeU. I doubt that members of AnimeU would appreciate getting credit for that terrible quality release.

EnA has the best quality release so far... its more than 420i in terms of amounts of pixels and probably the same in fps. not sure if that's the version Lunar is using

I'm going to wait for the Lunar version.

I've never liked Lunar as a group...

Ayu used to be pretty good, I haven't tried their releases for this series though... For now it's the version I'm downloading.

I'll stick with Lunar because I know they use the best raw, and said as much in significant detail in their forums. I can't necessarily say the same for the other groups.

With a series this oversubbed, it really boils down to acceptable quality and then personal preference. Same reason I prefered Koi's AIR over Lunar's after the first eps.

try EnA (Eien no Anime)... I don't really remember how good their subbing was, so it couldn't be that bad. Picture quality was AWESOME.

Episode 5 (http://anime-united.edwardk.info/%5BAnime-United%5D_REC_05_%5B4C7966AA%5D.avi.torrent)

image quality sucked... but this ep was actually pretty funny.

Dunno how many people have kept watching this, but I'll post a list of the missing Lunar subs just in case:

Episode 3 - Lunar (http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/%5BLunar%5D%20REC%20-%2003%20(XviD)%20%5B22F73DB4%5D.mkv.torrent)
Episode 4 - Lunar (http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/%5BLunar%5D%20REC%20-%2004%20(XviD)%20%5BC8734A09%5D.mkv.torrent)
Episode 5 - Lunar (http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/%5BLunar%5D%20REC%20-%2005%20(XviD)%20%5BE44CA76A%5D.mkv.torrent)
Episode 6 - Lunar (http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/%5BLunar%5D%20REC%20-%2006%20(XviD)%20%5BFD9BFCDB%5D.mkv.torrent)

This is kind of strange series. Not amazingly by any account, but somehow the people feel very real. And for some peculiar reason I like the character of the male lead, even though he's like a zombie much of the time. But unlike in many animes he doesn't behave as if he didn't want or didn't have the courage to try to get anything, he just doesn't often know what to do, or tries it the wrong way. Yeah, the male and female leads are very nicely different, which brings a lot of dynamics to the show. And also most of the minor characters are really good.

Despite the half-lenght episodes this series works surprisingly well.

And the show goes on...

Episode 7- Lunar (http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/%5BLunar%5D%20REC%20-%2007%20(XviD)%20%5B1AD5C317%5D.mkv.torrent)

It's a really nice episode with a good atmosphere. The main characters finally became honest to themselves and to each other.

Only two more episodes to go. It really is just a small love story...

couldn't agree with you more :)
even though it doesn't have a very good story or something like that, the atmosphere is really good, and it makes you want to watch more of it.
Too bad there are only 9 episodes of it..I'd really like to see more of it..
Edit: Also funny to see that all the episode titles are movies that Audrey Hepburn played in.. didn't notice this until the title for ep 8..

Episode 7 kind of odd - the only episode yer man didn't get smacked for trying it on with yer wan (brain gone dead, nameless).

One more to go after this one:

Episode 8 - Ayu (http://ayu-anime.net/torrents/torrent.php/%5BAyu%5D_Rec_-_08_%5B602AF5A6%5D.avi.torrent)

However, I didn't much enjoy this episode. That's just my personal view, as there probably weren't any technical shortcomings. But Matsumaru's behavior was so cheap and mean that it made me angry. Some inferiority complex that guy has... I didn't see it earlier, I just thought he's kind of slow and somewhat indecisive (and zombie), but he certainly has some problems.

Well, he has one more episode to shape up, or Aka should just dump him. After this episode, I would accept either conclusion to the story. Despite the beautiful ending of the 7th episode.

Episode 9 - Ayu (http://ayu-anime.net/torrents/torrent.php/%5BAyu%5D_Rec_-_09_%5BEnd%5D_%5B23A2DB70%5D.avi.torrent)

Just finished watching this episode - decent enough episode, few amusing moments.
Ending was fairly stereotypical of western productions.
All in all enjoyed series, nothing out of the ordinary really.

The last two episodes broke this series for me. Until then I had really liked this for various reason I have mentioned before. But like seanos said, the last twist that began with the previous episode and concluded in this one was too much a bad cliche. It's not like this series had had amazing amounts of originality in the first place, but it had used the elements well, and chosen the right elements. I wish the end had continued that trend.

Well, despite the last two episodes, it was a decent series altogether. Certainly worth watching.

I did sort of like the conclusion with the lady from accounting. The original airings never got back to that. It really wasn't pivotal to the overall plot, but the closure is nice.

It's also nice to hear Aka's voice again.

Kraco
Thu, 07-27-2006, 06:45 AM
Aye. It was nice to hear Aka's voice again, but unfortunately the last eps already got me pissed off with Matsumaru, and this only added fuel to the flames. Damn that guy is a cheap weasel.
