I don't know how the TV series ended, but I'm pretty sure this is good news... I assume that this is a sequel continuing the story where the TV left off...

Just based on the first ep, the animation is a definite improvement from the crappy stills with a single pinwheeling racket that was so popular in the TV series =P It's the National Tournament so the setup is already pretty exciting... for some reason in this ep they're not so subtle with the Tezuka worship. The shot with Oishi blushing at Tezuka's entrance was kinda funny :p

First episode was pretty good, I wonder how good Echizen is going to be on this tournament considering he was pretty much kicking Lleyton Hewitt's ass in the US Open.

Also, the next two episodes (2 and 3) should come out on DVD in two months or so, with every DVD coming out every two months until episode 13, each DVD containing two episodes.

Yes since the Episodes are released on DVD's. They are not on Japaneese TV. Hence OVA Original Video Animation (i think)

It's nice to see Echizen messing around. I don't know who else is going to win other than Tezuka, but I can't wait to see Fuji's 4th counter. Of course, it would be nice if other grps subbed it (I wish AO was doing it, but they stopped), since 5 raws are out.

By the way, I haven't seen the 3rd ep yet but in the 2nd, isn't Ootori's match still going on even after Echizen's...yet he didn't even break a sweat or anything? They showed him before, and after that match. :p

I thought episode 4 was very boring, the Kikumaru singles game. This episode was much better, and next one should be great with Tezuka finally playing.

Episode 5 sucked, Inui did shit, Kaidou didn't even use boomerang, the only good part was at the end where Momoshirou figured out Kaidou was using a powerband the whole match.

While it was good and interesting, I think PoT has completely given up making their specials logical and realistic. I mean the whole "2 Kikamaru" thing along with the new two forms of aura...

Also, why didn't Sanada us Muga no Kyouichi when he was playing Ryoma?

I have nothing against bonus episodes, even while they happen at the most inappropiate times (as said by inui) and don't serve a real purpose, but really, was that part neccesery?

Are you talking about that beach episode? Sadly... that isn't filler. That was in manga.

I have nothing against the regular 'out of plot' episodes, i really liked the chibi ones, and the not-tennis centered ones were also nice (though i would have liked them better if they would lead anywhere), but it's a diffrent thing to see it in the middle of the tournament...

Well the volleyball episode was suppose to be before the National Tournament. But since Echizen 'supposedly' went to the US open, they couldn't do the filler episode so I guess they thought it would be best to waste our time and interrupt the goodness which is the National Tournament.

I'm so confused with what's going on with this. Saizen released 13 episodes, but there hasn't been any others after that. Shinsen just released episode 1. How many episodes is this supposed to be, and why aren't they subbing more of this? Surely there are more than 13 episodes out.

edit: Man oh man this is confusing....mostly due to the releases made so far. Lets see. The National Championship OVAs are 1-13 if I'm correct, with episode 13 being the one where Ryoma beats Atobe.

The National Semifinal OVAs are 14 onwards. I think I have that right. But I wish subbers would release these OVAs in order. Some subbers have done some episodes, and others skip around...

well, I don't even care anymore... I started dropping series, and PoT was one of the first to go. It doesn't go anywhere, and I hardly enjoy it at all.
