I love that dialogue/phrase. I have only seen season 1-3. I must catch up.

Unfortunatley I'll be studying abroad for most of Season 5... pretty pissed about missing it...

he was president in earlier seasons, but in season 4, the one before this one, they called him in the office for advice

The Heretic Azazel

So let me get this straight. In season 1, he's running for president, 2 and 3 he serves, and the 4th he completes his term? Or both terms?

GLS
Mon, 01-16-2006, 02:26 PM
In season 1, Palmer was running for president. In season 2, he was president. In the third season, he was running for re-election. After season 3, he withdrew his name from the ballot.

Looking forward to tonights episodes. Last night was awesome!

in the 4th, someone else is president, but they die in an airplane accident. Then the Vice-President becomes president (who is also president in season 5), but Palmer is called on for advice.

when did the pres in day 4 die, didn't he just get injured?( I expect he did die seeing how after 18 months he's still pres)(and he's an ass)

Munsu

I wonder if Logan is behind whats happening i mean he didnt like Palmer and maybe Palmer wanted to meet the first Lady cause he would tell her some secret about her husband.

Even if Logan isnt behind this, i want to see him gone,he is soo lame.

I like Jack's new look,he doesnt look like a stonecold agent.

It was so ironic in the start of the first hour that Jack coulnd get work, a man that has done so much important work in his life coulndt get a job like that

darkmetal505
Tue, 01-17-2006, 10:39 AM
i dont think that logan would be a bad guy. If the president is bad, then i dont know what to say. He's just oblivious to everything and is a bastard.

Jack is pretty badass for thinking to blow up that one terrorist's explosives by activating its frequency.

Why would Palmer talk to the first lady if Logan wasnt involved.

Maybe cause Logan hates Palmer and doesn't want to know anything about him? Also, Palmer might still have some kind of doubt on who ordered Jack to be killed last season. And you can simply tell Logan is not involved with his interaction with his subordinate, who is the one involved.

I don't think he's being caught... I'm pretty sure he's infiltrating them posing as the Russian dude that is dead... Remember that the terrorist don't know his apperance, or even who he is for this matter... Palmer owns all, this new pussy can't even decide which side to let his junk hang on without asking everyone within 50 feet for their advice. He only grows a pair when it comes to yelling at other people to do shit, especially when it doesn't matter at all. Hopefully they'll use the gas on him eventually.

Jacks performance in the mall was a bit lacking, but he probobly thought they might leave and take him back to their base if it didn't work. I doubt Cummings' death was anything hinky, he felt bad and didn't want to face the music, I can understand that, but the first lady apparently doesn't know or care about politics or is a total idiot in addition to being psycho since she wanted to purposefully create a Scooter Libby situation for the president. Hope she gets gassed too.

Oh shit, McGill is pissed. Is there a rule that the new people in charge (i.e. McGill, President Logan) have to make the dumbest fucking decisions possible? Jack is zeroing in on that shit and McGill wants to pull him out, just like Logan wanted to do last season because he was pissed about dumb things. Can't they put the lives of people ahead of their own agendas? Sounds a little unprofessional to me.

McGill is about to go off on more people and by the looks of it, that black dude Jack knocked out to steal the car isn't going to take any of his shit. He's going to pull his weapon if he's reprimanded!

New season's looking great.

Tue, 02-21-2006, 01:00 PM
I don't know, I kinda understand McGill's situation... I'm sure that if CTU would just tell him that Jack has found a lead that only he can follow he would understand... But no matter what McGill does to comprehend the situation he finds himself being lied to and backstabbed, so it is understandable that he is taking this measures.

Logan's pussiness has dropped to a whole new level. Praying is one thing, but praying because your too much of a pussy to stand up to the terrorists is another. Palmer wouldnt have taken that shit. Having someone that weak of a man for President of the United States will lead it to ruin. I am just waiting to see if Logan starts asking a sock puppet about a decision later on in the series.

Its nice to see Curtis removing Lynn ( McGill) from command. I can understand why Lynn was doing what he was doing, his people doing stuff behind his back, but he was losing it. Lynn threatened revenge for later, I cant wait to see what he has instore for CTU.

I answered this before.

The President survived the plane crash, though he probably stepped down from office. Not sure what year 24 is in right now, so I don't know if another election occurred after last season, but you have to remember that Logan might have gotten elected for the simple reason that to the publics eye he handled the terrorist attack on season 4 magnificently.

ahh, sorry, i missed that part. But i think the year that the 5th season takes place in isnt an election year, and im pretty sure that logan was promoted under the 25th amendment, and i think that season 4 takes place close to an election year, and the season now is about 3 years later, so im thinkin hes still the president under the provisions of the 25th

I loved how they killed his sister, just after the commercial break we saw on one of the screens the sister acting normal, nothing was happening, then just right before the next commercial she gets executed out of nowhere, it was brilliant...

And Chloe crying when Edgar was dying was awesome, who knew she could cry...

Munsu
Tue, 03-14-2006, 04:26 PM
It's a matter of dosage... Almeda took a full injection, while Robocop was being administered progressively...

Also, where the drug was being injected probably had something to do with the result...

And also, Roboco was probably also given other drugs and measures to keep the drug from killing him...

There are countless possibilities.

Well that's your first mistake... you can't just tune in for the heck of it and see if you like it.

You start from the very beginning, get to learn the characters and get attached to them, and then see if you like it or not.

Of course you are not going to like watching some random episode, you don't care for anything you are watching.

It's like the movie Serenity, people that haven't watched the series Firefly say it sucks ass... well of course, you don't care for the characters nor know anything about them. People who have watched the series think Serenity is an awesome movie in all sorts of levels.

It was great... I didn't like when the terrorist chick was going to get caught so fast, I was hoping she would become the new Mandy, but at least she got immunity in the end. She's hot, so she better stick for another season.

I wonder what information Palmer's brother has... if it's so important, I wonder why he didn't just talk to Jack. And Audrey being the source for the terrorist, I wonder how much of that is true... Damnit, I wish I could've seen the preview for the next episode.

This was an extremely cool ep. It was great to see Jack interrogate Audrey but at the same time protect her like that.(which just means Jack works with assholes).

For some reason when I saw them approaching the facility to take out Bierko, I thought Jack would jump from that high without any rope and survive(my "Jack is god" mode kicked in).

Oh and I'll post what I put at another forum on who I think the guy who's doing all this is:
"I personally think the person who's behind it all is the VP, just think about it:

-He comes in just as the terrorists are planning their main attack
-he makes the president impliment Martial law so all the people of LA have to stay in their homes
-the terrorists try to set off the nerve gas that will go directly into peoples home and kill them
-he contacts Robocop to get men to take out Wayne Palmer who will ultimately blow his plan out of the water.

and since all of that failed, the vp is fucked"

Munsu

This episode was so kickass, but I'm a bit mad about the girl terrorist... She's so hot that I was hoping she would be shown again in some later season, but it seems that with her latest fuck up, that will not be possible. Jack smacking around Audrey was great, but I was hoping he would've done something more fucked up than a simple Jack one-handed chocke.

Next episode should be good, hopefully the mastermind will finally be revealed... I just hope that the mastermind is someone we haven't seen yet, or someone we wouldn't think of... I mean, the Vice-President and Robocop are too obvious... And 24 always has a mysterious traitor, and that's what I'm hoping for right now.

Now I'm curious about Walter's death, maybe it wasn't a suicide but a way for the President to allienate any suspicion of him being involved in what has happened, so he sent someone to kill him.

Man, this is the first episode I ever watched. This show is really good. But a few questions:

1.) how can Bauer shoot people on a helicopter about 25 ft. away but not be able to shoot a single man with a hostage 4 ft. away?

2.) How can Secretary Heller trust the President to not kill him when he already killed a former president?

But seriously, this show is very suspensful. The Presidents wife is definatly going to die and Jack Bauer's duty to own the guy who bled the hostage and took the tape. ( I have no Idea who the hostage is, I just started watching)

answers

1) Bauer is kickass, almost as much as Chuck Norris, but he has the hots for Audrey. He didn't want the risk of her dying.

2) He can't kill him in the White House, and until the end, the President didn't know who had the recording.

The President is pissing me off, such a weak character. He's a wuss. Talking about weak, Jack Bauer has sure gone soft. He needs to fuck people some more, kill without hesitation, I don't know what his current deal is. He seems pussy whipped.

I'm guessing an international conglomerate of some sort that has the prez in their pocket. And Curtis rules, your not suppoed to know he's there, that's how he rolls.

Jack is going soft though, where's the shoot first, then shoot some more Jack I know and love. I thought Jack figured out he didn't need a bitch back in season 2, I mean the ladies throw themselves at him and he could care less, besides, Audrey is a ditzzy blonde with an inferiority complex (and no spine...Henderson should be dead, he escaped CTU once already...). However Jack did just walk right onto a diplomatic flight no sweat, so he's still oozing pimp like there's no tomorrow.

I can't think of any TV Series that has been around this long that hasn't suffered from the same repetitive yet. At this point in time I really don't care for much of the story, I just tune in to watch Jack Bauer, that's enough.

OMFG! Why did that stupid bitch tell Miles anything I wanted to see Logan's head splatter all over that office. And why did they let him just waltz up to Chloe like nothing was wrong. CTU people have the worst security sense ever! Hmmm extremely important recording...lets let this guy we don't trust just nose around and do whatever he wants near it. I blame Jack's boner for Audrey, that bitch is making him soft. Hopefully she'll get shot and he can regain his coolness in the end.

upon going back home for a few days I sat down with some friends and absolutely powerhoused a few episodes of 24. The run ended when we got to a VHS (yes, we are that ghetto) where an episode was missing. So I'm not caught up yet, but goddamn do I have to post in here.

I started watching 24 back early on in Season 2, and Season 5 is the first time i've missed a live broadcast (at college i'd catch the West Coast if I missed the 9PM EST), and yes it chews me up that I can't be an active discussor here, but that's just the way it is...

Last episode I saw was the one after Lyn McGill and Tony (Tony no! :( ) died.
So, where to start?

Oh, how about them KILLING PALMER!
My initial reaction "Oh! Shit... Right in the neck." And from the wound I wasn't shocked that he didn't make it... I surprisingly wasn't sad at all about Palmer's death for awhile, until they have the scene where Jack sneaks into the crime scene (fucking insane man) and sees Palmer's covered corpse. That made me shed a tear... That guy will always be my President. In fact, I want a bumper sticker that says "David Palmer is my President"

Logan:
This guy is an idiot. He makes Bush look smart.

Logan's wife: Best new character, hands down. I love that woman. She's insane, she knows how to abuse her power, she has a good heart. When she got into the Tsubarov's car I was just like "Damn woman, you're not just crazy, you're fucking brave."

Logan's Aides:
Novack seems to be a little stupider this season, but just as devious and immoral.
I always wondered what the fuck Walt Cummings did and why he was around. Now we know, he was fucking the president in the ass whenever he got the chance.
The VP: I haven't gotten any solid proof yet, but just looking at this guy I know he's the bad guy. It's always the fucking VP...

Agent Pierce:
I said it about a million times in Seasons 3 and 4: "It's important that it's always the same Secret Service guy. He's not just some extra. One day he'll do something huge." Agent Pierce is the baddest motherfucker next to Jack Bauer.

Lyn McGill:
go back to the Shire and suck on Frodo's hairy feet you Notre Dame walk-on! There's always such idiots appointed to overlooking CTU... none of which seem to have any special abiltiy to handle active crises...

Kim Bauer:
She is so hot. I'm just glad she's back, but she needs some better outfits.

Tony:
Goddamn it they killed Tony! He should have gone out in a much better way...

Wayne Palmer:
Living testament against the stereotype that black people are good drivers. Also put in some pathetic acting so far.

Michelle:
I never liked the girl, but I was sad to see her go.

Edgar:
Second I saw that fat bastard in the room with the gas I knew he was a goner, but it was still one of the most emotional scenes in the show. He was a bit too by the book this season, but I still liked his character alot.

Curtis:
Now that's what I call affirmative action!

Titty girl:
Titties!:) I love 'em titties!

Oil Rig Slut and Son:
The son was surprisingly one of my favorite young characters ever. I was a little disappointed that he and his mom (another forgettable slut. Jack is a pimp!) were taken off so early... I believe his experience can serve as a valuable lesson to others:
Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever try to sneak up on Jack Bauer.

So it's probably pointless for me to specualte about future events (that you've all probably been past at this point) but I am still trying to figure one thing out:

Why are they killing off so many characters?

It's been gritty before, but there's never been such a high body count of characters who have alot of screentime. Chloe and Curtis are the only two CTU people I can recognize (and whatever happened to that Asian strike-team commander? Did he die last season?). Bill Buchannon is still a pretty recent addition, but I guess he's a 'familair face' as well as Audrey Raines (who technically doesn't work at CTU but always seems to be there...)

Is it a budget issue? Are they unable to retain cast members? Are they winding down the show? If anyone has any spoiler free info on what might explain the killings-off please PM me.

If you PM me a spoiler about anyone after Tony dying I will grind your bones to make my bread. No joke, don't fuck with my 24. Thank you.

You all probably won't see me around this thread until much later (it'll probably be all over then...) but keep on enjoying it.

Poor Jack, every other super badass ends their seasons on a boat sipping a martini with beautiful women. Yet he's ... on a boat, getting his ass beat by Chinamen. He can never catch a break. The Chinese thing is a hint at last season, maybe next season will be "Curtis goes undercover in China to get Jack out!" Chole and the other trash can all be on a boat guiding them out!

Anyway, what are they gonna do with Jack, the only thing I can imagine is brainwashing, but he can't really do anything other than kill people, and he doesn't have much access to anywhere anymore. We'll just have to wait till January...wtf is this January shit though... not cool.

When they caught the President and I saw the clock on my wall and noticed that there were still 10 more minutes till the end of the episode I instantly said "Bauer is going to get fucked". Didn't necessarily think that the Chinese were going to do it, but it was pretty obvious that something was about to go down, something always does in 24 when the conclusion of the trama doesn't end the episode, and when this happens Jack usually gets fucked over in the final minutes (his wife getting killed, he needing to fake his death, and being kidnapped by the Chinese to mention 3 occasions).

That's the thing. All those twists in season 5 were horrible. There is no way a character like Logan can put on such an act. Nina Myers was a "good" bad guy because she makes a living off of what she does.

Just some info for anyone that doesn't know yet, recently the first four episodes of Season 6 has been leaked.

FOX has an official 24 Season 6 DVD being released on January 16th. But someone got a copy of it. The DVD features the first 4 episodes of season 6 and a preview of the fifth episode.

There are download links available already but not sure if I should post them since its not actually aired yet and are leaks.

OMFG, DID JACK JUST BITE SOMEONE TO DEATH?!

fuck yes he did.

How is there no posts on the new season yet? Well, I'll tell you honest, I think it's just a little above mediocre right now. But some things show promise. The entire premise of the season is sorta weak, hard to relate to: the "America under constant terror attacks" is, quite simply, extravagent. I like where the political plot about Detention Camps is going (that little aide guy promoting it is the real terrorist, if you ask me) though.

coolest thing so far: Assad. That's a really interesting character. Ex-terrorist who is willing to come to the negotiating table, but has to deal with a radical faction of his own cause first. He's street smart and vicious when he needs to be. He's the coolest new thing.

awkwardest thing so far: White Castle Kumar and the White Kid Across the Street. I mean, their conversations and the necklace scene are so packed with homoerotic tension... That white kid must suck a mean dick for Kumar to not have killed him yet. But in time that little bitch will be dead, i imagine.

Blast from the past: Milo is back. I never liked him in season 1, still don't now. That and Chloe's ex-husband is working at CTU? That bald prick seems to have taken some of her pizzazz. She's a little too normal acting. Buchanan has been doing the best so far out of the old cast of characters, Jack notwithstanding.

I think Kiefer is having a hard time emoting this season. He looks so confused and out of it, and when he quit on the interogation... that was just so not-badass. But, like Assad said, "You'll remember." And I'm sure he will.

Oh, and suicide bomber, you should be at the front of the train next time you blow yourself up so that you derail the entire thing and hopefully kill everyone in the following cars. Would also have been better to do it in a terminal or at a crowded station (which I think was the plan)

Wayne Palmer: He sucks. Hate that actor and he's such a little bitch, not to mention incompetent. Detention centers are going to fuel a 5th column uprising, not to mention leave you blind to any non-obvious evil Muslims. How about doing the small things like: Bringing Jack Bauer back into the fold? Like: Monitoring the location you're about to airstrike BEFORE you hit it? Like: Bugging more phones and getting more people working on going through calls for leads? (the terrorists use "package" and "explosion" and "martyr" over the phone. No criminal is that stupid, cuz those things would all raise warning flags in an automatically filtered database if the calls were being monitored). He can't even keep his sister on a leash. And, and I wonder if this will ever be revealed, what exactly did he give the Chinese to get Jack released?

Well, 2 more hours tonight. Here's hoping for more badass action.

Yukimura
Mon, 01-15-2007, 01:47 PM
I suspect a lot of people downloaded the leaked eps and thus aren't talking because they know what happened and know they can't talk about it.

Anyway, everyone at CTU acts like a little bitch and there's very little professionalism there. Poor Jack has lost a lot of his swagger, vampirism nonwithstanding but if you think about it he's only been Jack Baurer, Walking Death for one day out of the last 3 years or so. He spent that year before season 5 haging out in suburbia, and now almost 2 years in prison. It makes sense that even he'd be a little rusty, but as Assad said, he'll remember.

Edit @ Below: Bud reminded me of the awesomeness of that scene where everyone in the White House was just standing around awestruck saying "We should have listened to Jack Bauer" that was awesome.

Munsu
Mon, 01-15-2007, 01:55 PM
Yeah, I have to agree that everyone in CTU act like little bitches. In fact, all characters in all seasons of 24 have acted like little bitches. It's needed so that Jack has to fight not only the terrorists, but his own agency and government. As one of those Jack Bauer jokes go, "If everyone would just listen to Jack, then the show would be called 2 instead of 24".

I can imagine the actor who plays Curtis, on the Larry King Live show last week pissed off since he knew that his stay on 24 would be short lived, yet restraining himself from revealing anything.

But that scene with Jack Bauer emotionally disturbed at the end of episode 4 after killing Curtis and then the atomic bomb exploding on the background was awesome.

I don't remember seeing any pronouncements but the way Curtis slowly slumped over made me think he may be gone for good. However there's no telling when or even if his reanimated corpse will awaken in CTU's medical ward just long enough to get stabbed in the neck with a pencil by a fleeing bad guy. I'm not counting him out alltogeather, but we probably won't see him for a while.

I hope he doesent get the tony treatment too...survive long enough just to die in the CTU medical ward due to some crazy mess. Now that I think about it, CTU needs to step up their security. There are constant breaches wherein someone dies (true, its only happened on 5 seperate days, but still, that gas attack last season took out like at least 50-60 people and EDGAR!!!11).

well, i'm not too sure about this move here... I mean, I know they need to add new characters, but suddenly making Jack's brother (and father, from the looks of the preview) into terrorists? it seems like they're stretching pretty far for new plot material...

Walid's parts of episode 5 were the best, no doubt about it. Even Wayne Palmer put in a rather good performance, right up until the speech at the end.

darkmetal505
Tue, 01-23-2007, 06:27 PM
I also agree that involving Jack's brother and father might be streching it, even thought JB's bro was a baddie last season. I know the nuclear bomb pulled Jack out of his slump, but the mourning for Curtis was too short, considering it only lasted about 2 minutes.

Munsu
Tue, 01-30-2007, 01:08 AM
I thought tonight's episode was pretty weak. Jack Bauer didn't have much screen time, and when he did he was useless. Now, after seeing the previews, it seems like next episode will be one kickass episode, can't wait.

masamuneehs
Tue, 01-30-2007, 08:37 AM
what Bud said. I thought the best parts of this episode was Tom vs. Karen and some of the scenes with Walid. I must say though, the phone thing was stupid as hell. Like that guy isn't going to notice right away that the phone is missing? And how the hell was Walid supposed to get it back to them, in the case that they actually were terrorists?

I was very disappointed at Karen's decision to resign. It makes me think that Tom was right, that she did try to cover up for her Buchannon's fuck-up, because otherwise she would have fought it. You can tell she wasn't cut out for politics, if she lets her personal emotions and her husband's reputation get in the way of pursuing the policies she believes are best for the country...

also, since last week's preview essentially covered the culimnation of this episodes events with Jack (and, as mentioned above, cuz the 'twist' with Gray actually being the one in charge wasn't much of a surprise), I've decided to not watch them anymore. I'd rather experience all the craziness in the actual progression of the show, not the jingly teaser clip.

Munsu
Tue, 01-30-2007, 10:07 AM
See, they way I see it it's not a matter of wether she was trying to cover-up for Buchanan's fuck-up or not. He did nothing wrong, so he wouldn't have to face any legal charges. Now, in the court of public opinion, you could say that Buchanan would've been fucked. He would be embarrased beyond repair, and might even draw death threats from patriotic activists. Not only that, being 24, that incident would've been publicized during this day's time frame one way or the other, maybe hindering his ability to lead CTU, so maybe she thought that for today he didn't really need the preassure. Only focus on stopping the bombs.

I didn't expect Morris to be the one.

Now we know where JB gets his badassness from, although I don't know if killing your own son counts as "badass".

Munsu
Tue, 02-06-2007, 04:01 AM
Yeah, I didn't expect Morris either. Throughout the episode I was trying to think of past 24 characters that worked in the Tech department of CTU, and thought maybe one of them would be the engineer needed, but none came to mind.

And man, Jack Bauer is almost back to his old self, I wanted him to torture his brother more but he resisted killing him. The last scene with Jack's father was great, and the way he killed his son was spectacular. I think and I hope he doesn't get caught this season. I hope he becomes the new Nina Mayers.

KitKat
Tue, 02-06-2007, 10:22 AM
I thought the whole 'Morris decoding the picture and then it turns out he's actually the engineer!' sequence was entirely too predictable. The accident report of his brother reeked of a ploy to extract him from the safety of CTU so he could be captured by terrorists. Regardless of that though, Jack was totally awesome in this episode. It was a tense moment when he nearly killed his own brother. I was completely caught off guard by the father though. I'd ruled him out as the criminal mastermind, but looks like he fooled me. I think Jack may end up killing him before the end of the season, if Jack gets any suspicion of what's really going on.

Munsu
Tue, 02-06-2007, 11:18 AM
I don't think the Morris thing was too predictable... the ploy you talk about I thought it was going to be of Chloe putting too much faith on his ability to work and then he making a huge ass mistake and Chloe feeling guilty about it because it was her decision to mention what has happened to his brother. But I guess we should've guessed that there was something fishy when Morris said that his brother shouldn't have been in the area.

The Adjective
Fri, 02-09-2007, 10:44 PM
I didn't predict that Morris was going to be the engineer, but when they finally revealed that it was him, I was a little disappointed. Sometimes it just seems like this show is trying too hard to create drama. I don't particularly find it any more exciting that Morris is the engineer than I would if it was some random character.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the show. I got into in the third season and I'm a proud owner of the first three seasons (too cheap to buy the latest 2). But, being such a huge fan makes it easier to pick apart the show's flaws, I suppose.

I also didn't really like how Graham gave up the info about Palmer's assassination. I kind of hoped Jack would find out some other way. It just seemed odd that he'd spit that information out for no good reason. Haha, Jack putting the plastic bag over his brother's head, however, was awesome.

Oh, and I'd like to add that I believe episode 4 of this season was the best this show has ever produced. From Curtis' death to the detonation of the nuke and Jack's breakdown... it was amazing. I was literally in awe for a few hours after that episode.

Munsu

So, anyone watched the 2 episodes of 24 last night?

About the episode:

I thought both episodes were very good. The power tool scenes were awesome and now there's a plot to kill the President by his own staff. Looks like both Palmers will have short-lived lifes. Now let's see if Milo can handle himself with a gun. We've already seen Chloe representing the tech staff, so Milo better not disappoint.

KitKat
Tue, 02-13-2007, 10:30 AM
Yeah, I thought both these episodes were better than last weeks episode (minus Jack torturing his brother of course, which was awesome). I'm disappointed in Morris for building a device that worked. He could have at least made a couple dummy ones before giving in. They couldn't exactly kill him because he was the only engineer they had. Oh well. Gave Jack a chance to be even more awesome by adding 'diffusing a nuclear bomb set to go off in 3 minutes' to his list of accomplishments. And what was up with him being able to type, and even go back to work within the hour? If I'd had my shoulder drilled, I don't think I'd be moving my arm at all.

Does anyone know what's so special about Jack's dad's company? It seems pretty extreme to kill your son, and potentially your grandson just for the sake of the company. Obviously, there's some self-preservation involved on his part, but there seems to be also this unwavering loyalty to the company that I can't understand.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Milo in action next episode. He seems pretty competent so far, and took charge of the situation quickly when things started to go wrong.

Yukimura
Tue, 02-13-2007, 11:16 AM
Milo definately handeled his buisness with that box of grenades, I was quite impressed. (Though he should have kept one or two just in case.) I'm a bit upset that Morris's device worked. Besides the fact that he wrote the code for it in less than an hour with no time to familiarize himself with the existing software or the random device Fyed had, it apparently had no bugs at all and worked on the first try. And the final check Fyed had was a display that said 'Device Armed' I think that could have been faked fairly easily.

Now I don't give the 24 technical advisors any credit at all so it's not like I expect even a hint of realism (machine coded matricies fotr the loss), but still, they could have made something up about a timeout period, or false positive or something that would have made the device not a perfect nuclear bomb garage door opener.

Morris is a pathetic piece of shit. I'd rather die than take part in such an act... And then he had to feel so sorry for himself... i'm glad chloe gave him a talking to! She rocks!

oh, does anyone else here get the feeling that Chloe and Jack are going to get together eventually? I don't know if her character is going to stay around that long (nobody's life but Kiefer's is considered sacred in this show, one reason it rocks), but I definetely was getting some vibes between them in their reunion at CTU. Thoughts?

Stupidest Bitch of the Show so far Award: This prestigious insult has it's origins in Season 2, when Kim Bauer seemed incapable of not getting her life endangered in the stupidest situations possible for like 10 straight episodes. So far I'm giving this award to that blonde bitch who blasted McCarthy.

7 million dollars? Yeah, that's quite a bit of money. But if you consider how many people you're going to be responsible for killing, that comes to almost $1 a head! I don't even think the evilest mercenary would agree to such a shitty deal. She could have tried to help CTU, where she would have undoubtedly been rewarded and also not have to live as a fugitive... All it took was knocking McCarthy out instead of killing him. But no...

Next, the dumb bitch goes to take Morris to Fayed herself. At this point, there was no doubt that she was going to die. Her blanching at Morris' torture certainly didn't help her get any credit with the terrorists, and the second she began begging for them to just let her go... I mean, if you're going to be dealing with nuclear bombs and hardcore terrorists, you better make sure you have brass balls. What a dumb hoe...

Assad came back, and his character continued to intrigue me. I'm a little worried, don't totally trust him yet... but he had some good points when he was talking to Wayne Palmer about how he'd conduct his speech. Obviously there needs to be some religious stuff in there...

Finally - I love Phillip Bauer. That guy is fucking evil as hell, and i love heartless villains! Naturally I want him to lose, but I'm also glad that it looks like he'll give the good guys a run for their money.

I don't think there will ever be anything between Chloe and Jack. I've always seen their relationship as being completey platonic. They've been through a lot together and Jack knows that he can always trust Chloe when he's in a pinch and she'll likewise break any regulations to help him out. They're very good friends.

And as for Wayne Palmer, I'm still unsure if his administration intends to assassinate him or simply force him out of office. The conversations certianly seemed to imply an assassination, but they never used that word or any other word that directly pointed to his death. I just found that a little peculiar. As if they were leading us on to believe they were going attempt an assassination. We'll have to see, I suppose.

I found it pretty unbelievable that Milo was able to do so much after having a hole bored through his shoulder. I mean, come on. At least a sling or something.

Haha, and I'd like to know what each of you think Jack's greatest achievement is. I personally think it was the time he shot down a helicopter with a pistol. Only Jack Bauer.

adjective: it's clear as day to me that they plan on assassinating Wayne. everything Reed talked about pointed to it, and he even told Tom that he wasn't talking about any procedural stripping of power.

morris was the one who got drilled, not milo. but yeah, anytime a tech guy does anything cool i'm always pleasantly surprised. Chloe with that machine gun, for instance...

your avatar is fucking creepy...

Gredenko is fucked, he's got both Bauers after his Russian ass.

The disarming of the nuke was intense, even though the outcome was obvious. I also want to know why Philip Bauer would go so far to protect his company. There is more than meets the eye.

Graem's son should take up the art of badassness like his grandpa and uncle Jack.

Morris, yes. Didn't even realize I typed Milo.

Masa: Yeah, it's not like I'd go into any lenghty argument about the Palmer assassination. I'm pretty certain it's what they're pointing to. It's just that all their political jargon seemed intentionally excessive. As if the writer's were thinking "Let's say everything we can to make them think we're talking about an assassination, but not make us liars when Palmer doesn't end up with a bullet in his throat."

Like I said; just a bizarre feeling. I'm sure it'll be quashed in the next few episodes.

Darkmetal: Haha, yes! It would be a great plot twist seeing Graem's son kill Phil (har har) and continue his father's agenda or something like that.

Hmm, decent episode this week I suppose. Milo was extremely disappointing though. He doesn't manage to hit any of the three guys, gets shot, is about to die, Jack saves his ass, and they're going to give him a commendation? And now he's back to work like normal. These CTU people must be indestructible.

I was a bit amused by the whole, "One day, this whole legacy will belong to Josh....so don't make me kill him" part. Seems like if the whole family is dead, there wouldn't be any point to having a legacy.

Holy Crap! Charles Logan!

Never thought I'd be glad to see that character return!

I'm so glad that Tom didn't cooperate with the second Palmer assassination. I always thought he was a little weasle during the first few episodes of the show, but not a terrible human being. He has his idea of what's best for country and Palmer has his. Just because they have a difference of opinion, doesn't legitimate an assassination. Tom's a good guy. Too bad he got clubbed in the face, huh?

I happy to see that Phillip escaped. I expected that Merium(?) would shoot him at the last minute. I was almost certain of it. Haha, I like it when the show still surprises me.

I really hope that Morris picks up his socks soon. He was one of my favorite characters this season. This whole feeling sorry for himself bit is disappointing me. He seems like he's ready to get back in the game and fight though, so that was a positive turn.

I'm really looking forward to the Jack/Logan meeting in the next episode.

charles logan wtf? i had to explain to all the 24 newbies who he was...

I'm liking Philip Bauer more and more with every episode. His logic sure is off, and he's got some serious family counesling issues.... but the man is so terribly badass that I'm willing to forgive it all. When he just vanished and Jack had no clue he wasn't standing behind him about to kill him... I don't think there's ever been a scene quite like that one...

Morris is giving us whiskey heads a bad rep... i really hope Chloe dumps him.

I thought Milo did pretty well, especially for not being a trained field op. He did lay down the cover fire. It was Marilyn's fault for being such a dumb hoe... did anyone see how she was holding the gun Jack gave her?

Logan worked with the Russians last season right? Thats probably his connection to Gredenko.

well, if memory serves me correctly, Logan was the Vice President under David Palmer and tried to remove him from office. So, when you think about it, it's not odd that he'd be connected with Philip Bauer and Palmer's assassination. I was also pretty confident that Phil Bauer was somehow connected to the current plot to kill Wayne (with Reed and Lennox), but they haven't made that evident yet... I still suspect it though...

Logan was not David Palmer's Vice President.... The Vice President was the dude from Unhappily Ever After, the President that was shot down in the Air Force One jet.

I can't believe no one has commented on the newest ep...They actually got away with it? I wonder whats gonna happen next?? and it was a good episode, even though there was minimal Jack time. i can hardly wait to see what happens next.

They got away with it? What are you talking about, the episode ended with the blast, there's still time for them to get caught. Palmer and the muslim dude problably survived the blast, I wonder what will happen next.

About Logan, I don't know what to make of it yet. I wonder what he's really after. Also, I wonder what are the effects of Palmer signing that temp release for Logan and now being incapacitated, does that make Logan's release somewhat permanent or something? Also, the bible passage that he was reciting is probably something important, probably some code he's been using to communicate with the outside world.

And I just looked up the actress who plays Nadia, and how could've I not noticed that this chick was the one from Vegas Vacation. I just became a fan of her character.

i believe that they pulled it off; that's what happens when you have a crazy zealot on the inside like Reed. but i thought the assassination was rather sloppy. The bomb nearly got discovered in time and how Assad reacted (if anyone remembers...) makes any attempts to put the blame on him look suspicious.

i'm willing to bet Wayne Palmer isn't dead just yet. But what will happen is the VP will make a grab for "temporary" office, saying it's a time of crisis and the nation needs a leader and that Palmer can't do it (no matter how good or bad his condition is).

Assad? I think he's gone...

Chloe and Nadia did OK in this episode. Morris is really starting to get on my nerves. He must be some kind of retard to bring the booze into CTU, especially after spitting it up and making a claim that he was clean.

Charles Logan is bad news. Anyone else find it weird that Jack didn't ask what the history between Logan and his dad is?

Munsu
Tue, 02-27-2007, 12:14 PM
Don't think he needs to ask... The attempt on his live and the killing of Palmer where done by Longan and the company, so that's the history right there. That there's more to it? Probably, but that should be enough to see the connection between them.

I honestly think that Logan is after what Jack believes he is; redemption. No matter what way you look at it, Charles Logan is a weak person. As a president he couldn't make any decisions on his own and when he did make a choice, he couldn't stick by for the life him. He was always very unsure of himself. Even when it was discovered that he was behind everything, and not the Vice President, we later discover that it was Jack's brother pulling the strings all along. Logan was a puppet.

Look at him now. He's under house arrest and completely alone. He's had time to think about everything he's done and he deeply regrets it. He wants to be forgiven. Even in the last season he wasn't an evil person. Just misguided. He honestly thought that what Graem was telling him to do was for the better of the country.

He's weak. He's got nothing left. I can't see him having some kind of sinister self agenda.

fuck, that VP Daniels guy has got to be in league with Reed and Carson (my friends try to convince me otherwise, but i just don't see it any other way. why else would he threaten Tom like that?)
fuck, that dumb bitch (buchannon's wife) took so damn long to get back in...
fuck, the VP's secretary is actually pretty cute.
fuck, Lennox does the right thing, but now he's going to puss out?
fuck, Jack got caught.
fuck, we get a decent Russkie and he gets killed...

i was very frustrated throughout this episode...

don't get me wrong, i was glad that Jack was back to being a badass. I loved when he went to the door and shouted "I've taken the consul hostage at gun point!", and of course the cigar cutter. But I just knew somewhere deep down that it wouldn't end well. And it frustrated me that the Ruskies got in there so fast... I was also frustrated because the second he got in that standoff there was no way he'd get out of the consulate without someone at CTU violating international law and springing him.

And so I was pleasantly surprised when Buchannon recommended just that, but I don't see the VP acting on it...

no fear though, Jack will be out before you know it... just in time to leave the bar minimum on the clock for stopping the drone launch

It's the Chinese problem all over again, except this time CTU will intervene. I have no idea how this plays out in real life. Is a nation, X, allowed the violate the sovereignty of another country, Y, under a national crisis if Y has information on how to stop the crisis but is located on X's soil?

Embassies are considered to have "extraterritorial status", exemption from local jurisdiction (essentially making them an extension of the visiting nation's soverign territory). However, the host country is still responsible for defending them, as best they can.

Extraterritorality can also be applied to diplomats and their families while on a dipomatic mission (also called diplomatic immunity)

There is no legal precedent, as far as I know, for a host country violating extraterritorality in order to arrest a person who had committed a crime in that host country. There are three cases I've studied (one I did a major paper on), but they're not really matches with how CTU would try to arrest the Russian consulate

The U.S. once sent a strike team to arrest Panamanian dictator Noriega while he was hiding at an Official Embassy of the Holy See (which also enjoys extraterritorality status along with some U.N. buildings. However, the strike team was called back by President Bush Sr. because his earlier move to use the military to invade Panama had created quite a bit of anger in the international community. Instead the U.S. laid siege to the Vatican Embassy with psychological warfare, blasting loud music at the building for days. Bush stopped this tactic when he recieved an official complaint from the Vatican. Noriega eventually turned himself in.

The Iranian seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran is often considered a violation of extraterritorality, since the fledgling government was seen to approve of the attack, and made no move to defend the embassy, and therefore have violated international law.

In 1997 the Peruvian armed forces moved to retake the residence of the Japanese ambassador that had been captured by rebels. The operation was a success and was regarded as legitimate by most media channels and people, but the behavior of the Peruvian army once they had re-taken the building has since been called into question and is under investigation.

There's also an incident with U.S. forces entering the home of a Nicuaragan ambassador in Panama, but I don't know much about that one.
