Episode 2 has been out for a while now:
http://a.scarywater.net/triad/...Akagi_-_02.avi.torrent (http://a.scarywater.net/triad/%5BTriad%5D_Akagi_-_02.avi.torrent)

Anyways, I just watched this first two episodes, and I really liked it once I got used to the wierd character design... I like their approach to the game... A dark atmosphere...

Bumping this one last time with the release of episode 3...

http://a.scarywater.net/triad/...Akagi_-_03.avi.torrent (http://a.scarywater.net/triad/%5BTriad%5D_Akagi_-_03.avi.torrent)

Wondering if anyone here is watching this...

I'm watching this, though I coulda sworn there were more posts on this thread. Regardless, I picked it up cause I thought it might be like Hikaru no Go (game theme, young player with lots of talent, ect.). While it isn't like HnG, it definately holds my interest (though like you, I had to get used to the abnormal character design).

Nice... I missed that you posted in this thread, it really is an interesting series...

Downloading now, it kinda sucks though how long it is between each episode, but I guess Triad isn't a speed subbing group, and I do appreciate the quality of their work, so I guess I can't complain too much =P

Episode 4 was awesome...

Akagi now became one of my favorite anime characters, he's fucked up.

This anime has turned into a pretty badass one. I especially love how messed up Akagi is. I suggest everyone take a look at this, watch these 4 episodes and decide whether to drop it or not.

No doubt, I bet I could kick your ass if I wanted to.

But, seriously, episode 4 was awesome... Akagi kicks ass. He should've wasted the other kid though.

Episode 5 is out

Man, Akagi has to be the best sports/board game anime series character ever... I love how he always cheats to win, he's a thug.

Hmmm, took me while to watch these, busy lately.
Must admit, it is quite brillant.
The sly evil-bastardardness of it all is brillant, very well done.

I'm fairly curious as to how this anime will progress, could go lot of ways, have feeling may skip forward years? (Since seems to refer to how this is how it all started...).

This will be added to list of what I look forward to after long workin' day methinks.

It was kind of hard for me to understand all the different moves at first but after you get into it it's a really great anime. The style is very different from anything i've seen before and i think that's refreshing.

It seems like the show is finished already (Ep 26 Raw END is out) but it will probably take Triad some time to get them all done.

Awesome ending to an awesome match.

seanos
Fri, 05-12-2006, 07:16 PM
Just watched this episode - very nicely done, an excellent match, and conclusion - match could have gone either way. Interesting touch that they don't seem to draw out the episodes/matches/games, typically I'd expect (from watching an episode) that game/match would be drawn out over a few episodes, however seems to end/conclude very abruptly at times, reflects nicely on nature of the gamble.

Looks like next episodes will have skipped forward in time, thankfully - I'd say series will really start to bloom now (as if already wasn't vastly better than expected).

Shame triad don't seem to like this anime (or at least that was impression I got from their site).

Yeah, all the mahjong explanation must take some work. And yes it will have skipped 5 or 6 years in the next ep, will be fun to see Akagi as a 18/19 year old =P

Episodes 8 and 9 have been out for quite some time, I just watched them. I think these two episodes have been my favorite so far, just because it shows how kickass of a character Akagi is, he's awesome. I think he's my all-time favorite anime character.

Episode 12 was pretty good, Akagi kicking ass as always, awesome way to end a match.

Here's episode 13:
http://a.scarywater.net/triad/%5BTriad%5D_Akagi_-_13.avi.torrent

Didn't care much for the episode since it was merely an explanation episode for the most part, but the final scenes are awesome with Akagi staring at Urabe and the foreshadowing of a match Akagi will participate in one year which seems like it'll be awesome.

I liked this episode, it walked you through Akagi's process of decimating his opponent.
It was also a nice episode to finish up this match, did a nice job of it, and I think it's main purpose was to lead onto the next episode, and show how disatisfied Akagi was with the match he just had.
It shows how Urabe had lost from the get go, and Akagi was nearly in a state of boredom with the match.
Again, It sounds as if the next match should be something to anticipate.

it was kinda nice to finally reveal akagi's "secrets" or just superhuman thought processing... but it was a bit explainatory, kinda was like uhhhh i wish i knew more about mahjong so i could understand/appreciate the show more. what exactly happened to urabe's hands? or was it like they cut his wrists and the blood was then flowing on his hands?

seanos
Mon, 07-17-2006, 07:58 AM
I assume something along the lines of breaking all his fingers...

They wouldn't slit his wrists - since they want him to pay back the 32M (Think that was amount).

Shame, that episode really just did build up the next episode to come.
Although, it does look like the next match will be interesting - finally a decent opponent for Akagi.

Munsu
Fri, 08-25-2006, 08:42 PM
Indeed, this episode was a tease, but this opponent seems great. I can't wait for this match to start, though I'm still waiting for Akagi to say, "Don't make me laugh, you're a fucking coward, I want you to bet your blood also." This arc is going to be awesome.

Finally, time for the match to start:

Nice episode.
I especially liked the line where Washizu said,
'...the devil who favours the composed and sonorous ...'

Since this whole game to this point Akagi has been composed while Washizu has been laughing/grinning and prattling on in general...

Munsu
Tue, 09-05-2006, 04:24 PM
My favorite part was when Washizu went "Richi! gegeggege" and then Akagi went "No go" while Washizu shit his pants.

Another excellent 'deathmatch' episode.
Washizu is one of the better opponents Akagi has played (not only in skill, but enjoyable to watch play).

Indeed, Washizu is awesome. Got to love the smirk he always has on his face.

Spoilers?

Up to episode 26:

I thought that the ending was appropiate, he probably swept the floor with Washizu. Need to hunt down the manga and see if the story continues after it.

There are two translated chapters on the internet which shows a bit further than the anime did, they are chapters 123 and 124, but I can't seem to find them again.. I am very interested in finding these. All rapidshare links I have found are outdated and they are not at any manga sharing sites as far as I can see.
This anime is still one of my favorites. Also, the opening is awesome.

Here are two excellent amvs(they contain heavy spoilers obviously):
