I wanted to create this thread so peeps can make use of the community and match up potential employees to employers. So how does this work?

If you are a employer or know of someone hiring, post here and ask for the info you would want from your applicants (ie. resume, cover letter etc.)

If you are looking for a job, drop a post here and see if anyone can help

The above is the main point of this thread because I just went through 2.5 months of living hell trying to find a job... and I know it can be so tough and unrelentless. So whether you're taking shit at work, having a hard time trying to find a job, having the time of your life at work, or want to tell us anything about your job experience.... let it out and share it with the rest of us Gotwootians.

EDIT: use this thread for any job related questions you might have including internships, resume formatting, or interview techniques etc.

I can relate, trust me. My only advice is that you never work at a factory, because upper management will never value any worker's opinion. I work at a factory that repairs cable boxes, which are almost full blown PCs because they have their own motherboards with embedded microprocessors, USB and secure card ports, custom operating systems, and a hard drive for personal video recording. So I suggested that we also contract with Sony and Microsoft to replace power supplies or chips on their PCBs whenever a PS2 or Xbox needs repairs done. You know, branch out. But they just told me that they'd think about it, and nothing ever happened. I still work on cable boxes. And then we spearheaded a new division to repair remote control devices, so when news of the Nintendo Revolution controller came about, I naturally alerted upper management to the possibly lucrative new opportunity. They just told me that they'd think about it, again. I'm not going to be surprised if nothing happens. The moral of the story is to stay in school and start your own company.

Anyway, I want to start a porn company and build it into a porn empire like Playboy. I'm going to be the next Hugh Hefner. All I need is a sexy woman who isn't shy to get naked in front of the camera to get me off (no pun intended) to a good start. Any sexy women on here who are interested? I'm an equal opportunity employer, and the health benefits of an active sex life have already been documented elsewhere. Plus, the pay is great.

If anyone wants to get into New Media.....LA's where it's at. I updated my resume on monster.com after i moved out here, and ever since then I've been getting e-mails and calls several times a week about contract and fulltime work.

BTW milfhunter, if you're a graphic designer or a programmer.....I might be able to hook you up with a job in the porn industry i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif

Yep, I'm a programmer, but so far as a hobbyist. I know C, PHP, and XML (and XHTML by default). I'm fairly limited in my experience with C++ and Java though, because I've never committed myself to doing anything complicated that would require object-oriented programming, but I can learn whatever I need to do something when the time comes.

I'm also a good writer (at least I'd like to think so), so I could do some good editorial work on a porn site or for a porn magazine.

I'm even moreso interested in being the main man behind the camera, so that I can build up some directorial work experience and garner some cred as a filmmaker so that I can go on to make independent films and eventually land the big contract jobs for the movie studios. I just want to do it all, even being the man in front of the camera.

I can also do fairly basic graphic design but I figure I can read one of Adobe's Photoshop in a Classroom books and the hordes of online tutorials over a weekend to catch myself up.

I would be happy with and grateful for whatever work you can get me in the porn industry. Maybe you and I can work on it together? Start our own media company as a partnership?

haha, well I work at a small subsidiary of sexsearch.com doing Flash scripting. I'm not really a porn guy...I'm sorta waiting for a good opportunity to move to a different industry...preferably towards movies or gaming. A friend of mine that also did flash scripting just quit a week or so ago, so they may or may not be looking for a replacement. They also just hired a PHP guy, so I'm not sure if there's any more openings for that. I do know that they're looking for some graphic designers, but they're real picky when it comes to that. However, if you can simulate 3D brushed/smooth metallic textures over a black surface among other common porn-esque styles, then I could direct it towards the guy in charge of that dept.

If you did get any flash scripting position though, then you'd probably be working at the same pod i'm at =]

BTW, it's not cheap to record your own porn. Whenever we stop by the studio, we pick up a small box of tapes that usually cost somewhere around $10k - $50k. The payoff's certainly good though. The owner of our company makes millions a month.

Don't know any Flash scripting, but I guess this means I'll just end up being one of your company's competitors, and then you can start writing Flash scripts for my company. Thanks for the heads up, though.

i'll personally be graduating from college in May '06 and I'm lucky to say I've secured myself a full-time offer with a consulting firm in New York. I'm also looking into a potential opportunity to work for one of the bulge bracket investment banks in Tokyo in their real estate private equity division but I am at this point unable to quantify both opportunities and compare them.

If you work in either industry or just feel like you know the topic well enough to give me some advice, pm me and I'll give you the details

Well now, I'm currently looking for a job in optics, photonics, or semiconductors. I like fabrication, although North America doesn't have many large scale clean room production facilities, so I would also be happy doing characterization, optimization, whatever. My preferred city is Ottawa, but if I can't find a job there, my backup plan is to jobsearch in California. So, if anyone has any connections or leads on job openings, let me know.

Hey KitKat, you should probably check out New York's Tech Valley (http://www.techvalley.org/). It's like a two to four hour drive from Ottawa too, so you'd be kind of close to home. I know that the universities and research facilities there are building all kinds of billion dollar fabrication and clean room production facilities. I know that RPI (http://www.rpi.edu/) is interested in committing large monetary funds into optics and photonics because they're always talking about how they could greatly benefit from nanotechnology research. There's even government support into turning New York's Tech Valley into the equivalent of what Silicon Valley is for the state of California. At the Tech Valley site, there's information on employment, housing, relocation assistance, education, and information on companies such as General Electric who'd obviously be interested in future technologies. I think you could also contact people at RPI and get a lot of help from them because RPI is actively recruiting people, and doing seminars on public access television all the time. Good luck.

Edit: BTW, you wouldn't be interested in doing porn, would you? 'Cuz I is got a whole presentation laid out in my mind on a feature that I like to call, "Hot College Science Girls". What do you think?

Thanks milfhunter! I'll definitely check that out. I didn't know New York was building their high-tech sector so much.

As for the porn offer, I think I'll have to decline. But thanks anyways. i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif

Job Diary:

1st Job- IGA grocery market
Position: Grocery Store clerk - aka "everyone treats you like shit"

One time this old woman came up to the register with a watermelon. She demands that I cut it in half, because she wants only half. I reply that I'm not trained in that, and that we only sell whole watermelons. She replies by saying produce is sold by weight, and that she only wants half. I tell her to take it to the deli. Ten minutes later the deli guy comes over, "You sent her to ME? I only cut meats and cheeses. A watermelon is going to make a mess. And how the hell are we going to sell the other half?"

My manager once chased a thief half a mile to apprehend him. The thief was stealing two 18 cases of beer. My manager weighed at least 200+ pounds. He caught the thief.

People use their baby's carriage to hide suff in and try to sneak it out without paying for it. Does that make the baby an accomplice?

This job is a great way to sell booze to your underage friends.

Cat food is from the devil. My manager would make me rack the cat food. There's 3 different brands and about 20 flavors in each brand. A shelf fits about 9 cans deep, 3 high. Cans must be pulled all the way to the front and their labels lined up, sorted by flavor and brand. This makes for hours and hours of menial work that one customer can destroy in 3 seconds.

Seeing-eye dogs will try to eat food from the store.

Always check the back of the register, under the actual money drawer, for loose dinero. Finders keepers!

Tabloids are your friends, even if they're constantly lying to you.

Strawberries are the most volatile produce in terms of price.

Old people can either be the nicest or biggest assholes to you. They also constitute the extreme ranges of tips for home deliveries.

Apparently keeping cleaning products next to cooking materials is a health violation.

STAY TUNED NEXT WEEK FOR:
Job #2 - Camp Counselor aka "I get paid to abuse children"
