"Taira Kappeita, or Capeta, was a 4th grader boy. He had lost his mother when he had been very little. Although he pretended to be tough in front of his father, actually he felt lonely. One day, his father brought junk parts home from his workplace and made a racing cart. Soon, they went to a circuit to drive the cart. However, Capeta found that its frame was bent and it could hardly run straight. But, with his technique he managed the cart. Furthermore, he followed soon after the fast cart and he could nearly leave it behind. The driver in the cart was Minamoto Naomoi, the champion of the East Japan Junior Cart. Looking at their chase, Naomis mother, Minamoto Nanako, advised Capeta to take part in the official race. "

Not bad at all. The theme of racing go-cars is neat. Episodes 1 and 2 were fine; still pretty easy to follow and predict which is kinda obvious for this genre [sports], but in all good.

The only thing I didn't like was the kid's character designs. For me, this is that type of series were the designs for the grown ups are neat, but the ones for the kids are&y'know, not that appealing. I'm talking about the main 3 characters [Ca-chan, Nobu, Monami].

I haven't seen an episode yet... but I think that this series will span until the main character is grown up, so hopefully you wont have to see much of him as a kid

Wierd thing, i just caught up on initial d 4th stage, then watched new episode of bleach, blood+, then capeta episode 3.

I was all thinking to myself that capeta will be drifting those tracks like in initial D because my mind was still stuck on the races in initial d.
Then all of a sudden they showed a Trueno while his dad was workin , lol i was like whoa, cant tell if its a 85 or 86 though but it had fog lights and looked the same as in inital d, the name in the front had a Tr?no, was blurry, but yah now im wondering where the anime is taking place. that would be cool and wierd if the setting was the same, probably not but oh well.

Raw for 4 5 and 6 are out, wont post it here since i aint watching it until subbed. Interesting series, hope itll pick up soon.

I started watching it tonight, and I found this series to be pretty good...

The MILF in episode 4 made it that much better...

Episode 13 was pretty good. The highlight of the episode was when they announced car 3 had the fastest lap time. Capeta's closing the gap and in the preview for the next episode(spoilers if you don't watch the previews)...it looks like Capeta is going to squeeze in between 1st and 2nd place and make a dash for the finish. I'm still liking the music as it seems appropriate for a race car anime.

When the leader said that he was going to try and break the course record, I had a feeling that he would crash somewhere around the last lap leaving Capeta for the win. In the previews it seems that this happens indeed, but I didn't think that the team members would be the ones crashing each other.

I've been keeping up with this series, its a whole lot of fun. If you have ever seen kart racing in real life, those little buggers are really really fast. The technical side of racing in Capeta is exaggerated and oddly explaned, but at least its based on real world racing technique concepts. It makes sense though because the series is clearly aimed at kids, and using the kind of "racing" terminology I'm familiar with just wouldnt work with the 8-15 age bracket.

Overall I think this series has some great drama and action. It is like Initial D in many ways (a loner, who is at a technical disadvantage, overcoming the the big bad racing teams) except with a younger target audience and different race setting. There are many hierarchical tiers between beginner carts and F1 (Such as Formula Nippon, GP2, A1 GP, ect...), so this series could go on for a very very long time if the producers so choose and it remains popular.

didn't like the four year gap but it would have taken more eps if they didn't
carpeta looks less like a dog at the end of ep 14 (my opinion)

That's a given...

For sure many things happened along the years between him and Naomi, so those should be explained in some form. I wonder if Capeta's dad get it on with Naomi's mom.

I've caught up with this series as well. The last few were kinda frustrating and redundant. I get it: he's dirt poor and needs money in order to keep racing. Now that that's established, can we please move on? Hoping ep 23 gets better. Downloading now... (thanks, seanos, for the link)

They do play that card a lot alright -- but thinking about it, it would be a huge issue, and something which would constantly plague one's mind...
I did like the call he got telling him his father collapsed from being overworked...

just finished watching episode - very good episode.
It cleared up a lot, and got characters seeing each other's motives some more.
Looks like some racing in next two episodes at least ;)

Yeah, it was a fairly good episode... wonder if Monami blushing while talking to Naomi is foreshadowing something that might happen between them. Hopefully the next couple of episodes will be racing episodes. Also, it seems that the series will be 52 episodes long. I'm thinking that the first season will end with Capeta being champion of the current class his racing in, then we'll get a time jump of maybe 2 or 3 years when he's ready to enter the F1 circuit, where Naomi is racing, as the setting for the rest of the series.

This was an OK episode, full of nostalgic moments for the characters and such. Seems like we'll get another Monami and Naomi moment in the next episode, lets see if it sparks some anger in either Nobu or Capeta.

all the races in capeta always take their sweet old time. It's really irritating, even when I was marathoning it. But anyways, I look forward to the next couple of eps as well. There better be a good payoff from all this suspense.

I keep thinking he's gonna somehow apply that trick he was always entertaining the kids with-- the thing someone said is completely useless-- how he turns on just two wheels. anyone remember that ep? As soon as someone said it was a useless technique my brain automatically stored it away as a future application in a race hahaah :p

The problem is not the races taking their sweet time, it's them taking their sweet time leading up to the race. Seriously, how many times do we need to see a scene on how good Shiba is on rainy days. That's the only thing I hate about most sports anime, they like to repeat the same shit over and over.

You're not. I'm just waiting for the next couple of eps to come out before watching this entire race in bulk =P I hate waiting in between and this anime is notorious for dragging out the suspense. But I do expect a damn good race, after all this buildup.

Yep, that was definitely a great race. I'm glad Capeta didn't really "win" in the end. That alone sets this series apart from most of your typical anime fare. Can't wait to see what happens next. I say that it's time Capeta got himself a $$$ponsor. Nobu, make it happen!

This was indeed a great episode, I liked how Capeta passed out after the race and everyone was chanting his name instead of Shiba's. After his performance he'll get a sponsor for sure.

I'm still watching... but there's not much to say in between races hehe :p I do look forward to the next couple of eps where Capeta learns how to drive a new machine. But sometimes I think the pacing of this series is incredibly slow.

This episode was fast paced, so it was good... I'm glad they didn't drag this stage too long. I wonder what they'll do for a tie-breaker.

Great episode, as always, though I think they really ruined the pace in the last 5mins by showing the Monami scene. It wouldn't have been bad if they did half-half (first half episode Monami's singing bit), or 25/75% kind of ratio, but throwing it in the middle destroys the pace of the episode I think.
Still, bitching about that is really clinging at straws to complain ;)

Well, finally decided to watch the final 4 episodes, and man what a great series. The final race was amazingly well done. Great fast pace, no bullshitting around 10 episodes on a race as previously done... and it was awesome. It had its cool share of suspense towards the end of it, especially when he lost his brake and his engine blew near the finish line.

I also thought it was a nice touch to have Minamoto and Taira racing on the go-karts at the end of the episode... good stuff, but there was an obvious cop-out; they never showed who won (though I assume it was Minamoto). Then we listen to the radio that they're finally both on the F1 with the two top positions battling it out, I wish the anime would've shown that race too.

Towards the end of the episode, there's a "see you again..." sign. You guys think that another series will be made, or have heard of anything? I also wish they would've been more Monami and Taira interaction, the second half of the series had little of it.

I wish someone would scanlate the manga while we're at it.

Started this series around the end of the week... and just finished it.
Somehow the main character gets to overcome great problems and faces strong adversity.
But many times in the story, particularly races, it's not too real, or his oponents really are bad.
In fact if you read the series correctly, Minamoto is the only worthy driver with his approach and his consistent results and more importantly his driving style.

The most painful to watch arc was from ep14 to when he finally get that audition.
First the time gap is very annoying and would have covered very positive events... then you get that depressing arc with that trash kart frame that makes him break his ribs.
It was too long, too far in the "I have the strongest spirit of all people on earth"

When he gets to the audition, the series gets better again. It's always hard to swallow that someone would have such an incredible learning curve, but you can always have surprises.

Then there's that last race. Do not ever believe it's possible to drift with one of those cars for 3 laps or more. You could try, but over a 1'42"+ lap, your tires would be quickly dead and your time laps would increase by many seconds...

The only refreshing technique is the straight lining in curves. It works well if you're good enough and the other drivers aren't that good. Won't work in F1 though.

Regarding the Initial D cameo in Ep3, there's a trueno branded as "Trend" for copyright sake, No Fujiwara Tofu marking... then there's a white van very similar to the one in initial D, no marking either. It was nice wink though
