Here's another of the new series this season.

I'd rather it be another group than Shinsen, but they're it for now.

It has potential to be a good series.

It reminded me a bit too much like Battle Angel Alita and minor elements of Chobits/DearS and unfortunately, Bakuretsu Tenshi. It seems very familar to stuff I've already seen. The same 'character has absurd power but doesn't remember or know why' premise that starting to get overused.

The bounty hunter is really cool though, and some of the peripheral characters seem interesting.

Hopefully there will be some interesting twist to turn it out of this somewhat formulaic plot. I'll give it a few more eps before I make a decision.

Im a fan of BAA so i will dl this. I dont care about the premise being overused since most animes have been done 100 times before.

I only hope its decent i need some good sci fi.

A couple clarifications because my first post sounds a bit too negative:

I enjoyed Alita a lot too, but Solty Rei is that reminescent of it. It's really too early to say anything negative or that positive about it, but I just included those others as a basis of comparison. I only dislike the elements that reminded me of DearS and BakuTen, because I hate those shows, even though I watched them the whole way through.

If you liked BAA, you'll probably like Solty Rei.

1st episode was alright. It kinda remains me the series Heat Guy J, but instead of a guy android, we got a chick. In all, I'll keep watching it.

I liked episode 1 really... and is this the same group (the anime group not the subbers) that did Speed Grapher? character models look similar and its Gonzo Digimation and the same network...

EDIT: I REALLY liked ep 2... and I DO think it is the same team as Speed Grapher... if it goes that same way, well we are in for an interesting story!

Other than both being produced by Gonzo, SG and Solty Rei don't have too much in common.

The art designer worked on things like Witch Hunter Robin and The Big O, giving it the retro 50's feel (the cars and the buildings).

The CG integration is what reminded me of Bakurestu Tenshi.

It's not the same animation team as SG, just same production company. There's some similar elements, but it resembles the staff's previous work more.

A decent eps. Kinda heartwarming in a way, even if Solty got the short end of the stick.

I just get this feeling now that Solty could be his long lost daughter (with memory loss though) in a complete Resemble body. It's overdone, and I'm hoping they don't take that route. I'd be a lot happier with the 'surrogate daughter' to help him forget about the one he lost plot.

Or I could just be thinking about this too hard.

maybe not... one thing I have to say... I'm glad that the girl putting on the suit is not like some Sailormoonesque magical transformation... really... and that was a decent ep...
also, if that's his daughter with a different and totally artificial body... how tha hell does that make her his daugther???

I figured on the cyberbrain idea. Transfer in the thoughts and memories into a synthetic brain, and then somehow she got memory loss, like all heroines are exceedingly prone to.

Just watched the first 4 episodes...

I would say it's fairly good... Action is good...

Not much plot going on at the moment, but I have a feeling that when the actual plot kicks in this show will get extremely good.

So far, I really like how they introduce each episode with a different character's point of view about that incident.
And, I like how it's focused on a father- daughter relationship (makes it feel like I'm watching something new).

I hope we get to see that blond chick with her gang again, soon.

I'm finally caught up also, the 3sibling theives were actually cool, not dumb and annoying like I thought they would be. I just can't knock the thought of bubblegum crisis when I see the secret agents in their suits. Their van also reimds me of Baku Tenshi(Blast Angel).

If you haven't already heard, FUNimation owns the license to Solty Rei, and asked Shinsen to stop, and they complied.

It was just starting to get good, so we'll probably have to wait until they release the dvd's, and by that time, I'll probably have forgotten about this series.

Funimation has been doing that for quite some time now... I've mainly noticed because most of what Funi has licensed Anime-Kraze has been doing, and for every series they've gotten a C&D letter...

Basilisk, Tenchi Muyo OVA 3, and Samurai 7 to name three..

They also did the same with Tsukiyomi to Mahou...


So that's two groups at least that have received these kinds of letters in the past from them...

From what I hear the translator for that group doesn't even know japanese, all he has is his experience from anime... I can't tell myself since I havent watched their version...

Well, that's proof enough. I didn't really expect that one at all.

Well, with the issue of Roy's daughter's identity resolved, the next remaining issues are still with Rose, Solty, and RUC.

We obviously have no idea how Solty ended up the way she is, so that's coming up at some point, but the bigger connection is between the RUC girls and Rose. In the eps where Rose was trapped with Solty underground, a red pattern appeared on Rose's face after the fire started. That same pattern appeared on one of the RUC girls when she was confronting Ho. I can only assume that Rose was subjected to the same experience that they were, also linking why the RUC director is so interested in her.

I can't even concieve of why the story would turn that way.

Why exactly did Roy look 20 years older? I suppose the animation in this eps was kind of different, but I didn't even think a slight quality drop could result in him looking that different.

I think this was a good idea. it basically shows that ANYTHING can happen and that no one is safe.
about the art for Roy, i think it was to show that he had softened considerably since he found his daughter. he looked older because he had expressions that he never had before. I guess he'll be back to normal next ep (or he'll breakdown. now he has no hope!)

I still can't help but wonder about the connection of Rose's markings, the same that Integra also had when she was after Ho, and the RUC leader when he was stalking Rose in the parks (there's no way he didn't have an alterior motive there).

I'm really not sure what could happen in this series anymore. That's a good thing.

I just watched 9-14 and I can't believe they killed off my favorite character. They even took out her face shot in the very beginning of the opening i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif. I'm somehow hoping RUC finds a way to bring her back, her and Salty should have a much bigger roll since the two of them are always on his computer screen.

I personally liked the episode... well, especially because of the punch in it. I think it was well played. But seriously, WHAT THE HELL is the RUC planning anyways?

Well, the Solty part of the eps basically just reiterates the same speech you hear from [random bit character] whenever the main character in a series gets discouraged. I would've liked it if I hadn't seen it 20+ times.

The part where Miranda starts beating Roy was the best part of the eps. He's been all drunk and worthless everytime he loses someone, but Miranda just dealt with her own grief. Watching him turn into that pathetic state had to have been really irritating to her. Most importantly, he adopted Solty (even if Miranda and Kasha basically forced him to). Her main point was, if he really didn't want the pain of losing another daughter, why did he drive off Solty in the first place? I was kinda hoping Miranda would beat him worse than that though.

ok... 1st and most important thing. THAT PLANE LANDED!!!! yea! for the first time in the series, that plane managed to land!
now really, seems that the RUC guy is older than we thought. so what's his secret? who is the girl in the photograph? and Rose leading the RUC girls! has she been brainwashed?? Ryllharu you were right about her joining them, but being their leader, somehow this hadn't entered my mind.

but the RUC guy is becoming a lunatic. and Sylvia is cool, I hope she doesn't die (Rose survived a building falling on her, a stab should be nothing!)
Oh and I bet Roy will kill Rose! (okay, i'm a sadist but that would be interesting to watch)

I have a feeling it would come down to more of Solty fighting Rose. We cannot forget that Solty is...well she's absurdly powerful. Roy would probably be killed instantly, not to mention there's no way he'd be able to kill what remains of his daughter.

There really isn't much to be said about Solty willingly fighting Rose either, but it will probably be one of those 'knock some sense into her' fights. Either that or Rose kills Roy, and Solty avenges him (without killing Rose).

Ahhh, there's still so much we don't know about Solty. The old man in the desert certainly seems to be connected to Solty in some manner.

Two last unanswered questions. Back on the anniversary of his wife's death, Roy left the cemetary as Serika was entering it. Was there any signifigance to that? I hope so. Also, is Solty completely sythetic, as in she was never even a real person to begin with? Or was she given that resemble body as a result of the Blast Fall? If the latter is the case, then I can't help but think that whoever she was is important to the other characters.

Maybe I'm the only one but I actually liked the RUC members, each of them had unique personalities that made them cool. I didn't wanna see them die i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif but atleast my favorite character Rose is back from the dead. Also I think Solty is the same as Rose, a human turned into a full resemble, I think the green hair is a result of the blast fall since it was said that some people hair changed color.

I liked all the RUC members, well, except for Axela, but Serika and Sylvia especially.

I think Rose is still mostly biological. All of the others seemed to be. I cannot explain how RUC brought her back, but I don't think much (if any) of Rose is resemble. That notion didn't seem to fit into the director's little plan.

Solty is completely resemble, her hair is green because whoever made that body made it green. It's the same reason she has those weird twitchy ear-things. (Which are the ears of Solty's body). They just made her that way.

The RUC girls are NOT dead. they are in a dire situation but are NOT dead (yet). I'm pretty sure Axela will survive and I hope all the others will not die.
anyone remember that computer that saved Solty in the early eps? i guess we'll see more of that soon (as to why Solty is there).

Damn! this show has really kicked into high gear. Since Rose came back, every episode was full of very important events. and next one will be. so... uhm SPOILERS for that ep if you haven't seen it. below

It pisses me off that Sylvia is really dead. I mean, I actually was as pissed off as Celica was. Speaking of her, she became my favourite RUC character alive... THEN they kill her!? I was nearly crying by the end of that ep. one thing though: it was nice seeing the contrast between Solty and Roy's situation (nearly pure happiness) with the deep mess that the RUC girls were in. Also... its been a while since Solty has used her super hearing stuff, and Rose is, disturbed? well, I say... BRING EPISODE 19 NOW!!!!!

EDIT: Just had a question. What did Rose shoot Celica with? I guess this might not be lethal (although i said the same thing for Sylvia)... one can hope!

Rose wasn't the one that took the shot, at the very end of the ep they show somebody smoking with what I'm guessing was a sniper shell landing. So it look's like the RUC faked Rose's death to brain wash her. Some how I didn't see that coming and Celica was my favorite member also, her voice and attitude were great. I hope she isn't dead.

I just didn't think there was that much to say about the last eps. I'm the thread starter after all. I'm very happily enjoying this series. I was actually on spring break all last week. I watched the last two eps when I got back.

Good to have you back and watching Solty Rei :D. Integra was pretty awesome this ep I wonder if the thing she had built for her was the power suit she was wearing. I was kinda hoping it was a bomb and that she planned on blowing up the RUC building.

I was kind of suprised that Integra never once considered attacking Ashley's little rocket or whatever it was. In that last burst she could have inflicted a lot of damage to all that sensitive machinery that all of his plans seem to be mysteriously founded around. Instead she foolishly went out for direct revenge on him. I hope Accela will take up that end of the task and put his plans back a while. Not only is she smarter than the others, she actually knew what he was up to most of this time.

So it appears Rose thinks she's just playing along, even though in the end it looks like she's playing into Ashely's hands.

They've also returned to the Solty was a rogue full cyborg made by RUC from eps 1. It seems that J (forgot more than his initials, too busy to take the time to look it up) had quite the hand in building her. The "luggage" also gives me reason for concern. I wonder what it is...

A decent 'conclusion' eps. I won't spoil for the 3 other people that still watch this series.

I do still want to know, what is the point of Solty's role? Who is she and who made her. There have been no explainations, but it seems like Ashley, Josef, and at least of number of other people know, and the story seems to be imply that we should already know. She had personal information from Lorelei- I mean, Illumina. If they don't give out some information in the next eps, I'm gonna be severely disappointed.

(Lorelei is from Saber Marionette J in case I'm the only who remembers that series.)

I havent watched 23 yet, was waiting for 24 to be released. I think Solty is one of the first humans from Earth or was either built by them to keep tabs on the planet. That's the only reason I can think of since she seems to be made of the same material that the spaceship is made out of.

Ah, Well Done! Apparantly no one cared much for the ending (No one has said anything for a while), great series imo, I'm glad I picked it up.

I think Solty was,as it was said, just another AI sent to help out, it's just that she was more of a human relations type than the other too. It's interesting that all these AI's were so good they managed to anthropomorphize (take on human qualities, look it up it's a real word!). Unfortunately only Solty was able to get past solipsism (the idea that nothing exists other than yourself and your ideas are the only possible correct actions to be taken). Helen and Eunomia maintained their solipsism to the end, as babies probobly would if they were left to their own devices and were somehow able to survive to adulthood.

It was likely the love Solty recieved from Roy and the rest that made her mature from essentially a baby into an adult in the same way that humans do, through experiance and guidance from parents, friends, and the world. I think the depth of Solty's charachter progression, especially near the end was a great touch to show that a 'person' is the sum of experiances, thoughts, and feelings, processed and reacted to by an appropriate medium, be it man or machine. Man, I haven't thought this much in a while, maybe I should go watch some Azumanga Daioh to calm my burning neurons. Someone please post if those DVD extra eps come out!
