I think that if Lee had been put up against opponets that don't have these "Ultimate Defense" moves, he'd demolish just about any Ninja (kages aside). You saw the look of startlement/fear in Neji's eyes after he had opened more than 3 gates. If Lee and Neji had fought, and Lee went all out, I think Neji would be hard pressed to pull a draw.

Rock Lee is the mother fucking man. He still remains one of my favorite naruto characters. I affectionately refer to him as the Learning Disabled Ninja. Think about it for second, just like student trapped in a self-contained learning disabled class room nothing comes easy to rock lee. The poor guy simply can't comprehend ninjustu or perform it just like an LD kid can't read, write, or do math really well. But did he give up and let those genius mainstream classroom ninjas screw him over, fuck no. He worked his ass off to achieve something greater. To equal if not surpass those who have been given the easy ticket in life. I find that so inspiring. Hell If can someone make me a rocklee signature where it calls him the LD Ninja. I would be indebted to you for life.

I was waiting for a thread like this to show up what with all the talk of Rock Lee lately. Kudos Jadugar.

Rock Lee is my favorite character. What else is there to say? He is inspiring. I don't know whether it's embarassing or not to say that I've actually come to apply some of the lessons "taught" by Lee to my everyday life (to some extent). His fights in the series have been the best, and he's great for comic releif.

Neji will always own Rock Lee.

While I'm not an enormous fan of Rock, I'll admit that watching him is always fun and his fights are definitely among the best (if not THE best) in the entire series.
So yeah, I'm very glad he's in it.

I'm the exact opposite, Terra.

Back when I originally enlisted into the GW membership, I claimed the spot for no. #1 Rock Lee fan. I'd still like to think I hold that. I adore the character, and I am an astronomically avid fan of the Taijutsu specialist.

His fights are the most entertaining to watch, due to the awesome animation and effort that's placed into perfectly showing off his hand-to-hand combat skills. Plus, his own personality and determination is admirable.

He can undeniably make us laugh, as his polite antics and whimsical nature with certain things can't help but make us giggle. His drunken display with Kimimaro is all I need to say in support of this. Hell, even his first appearance with his attempt to court our favorite useless kunoichi, Sakura, were comical.

Again, while some may not like the character or care too much for him, his fights hold the majority of the best battles throughout the series. And, as someone stated, considering how Rock Lee progressively unveiled his true skills, there would not have been any character capable of handling him, nor possess a relatively minute chance of defeating him. He is nothing short of impressive, at the very least.

One of his favorite lines of mine is, "The Lotus of Konoha blooms twice. I promise the next time we meet, I'll be a stronger man .." And, all of his interactions with Gai-sensei, as he's filled to capacity with eagerness and excitement, are fond moments of Rock Lee.

In regards to the question, I'm not sure which Gate you're referring to by "that," but .. I do not believe Initial Lotus [Omote Renge] would be enough to defeat Neji. As powerful as the technique is, and can be, with the sheer speed Rock Lee is moving at, I don't see it at a greater level than Neji's tolerance and endurance.

I feel the purpose of the Extreme Lotus [Ura Renge] was to ensure Neji's defeat. Gai-sensei states this, as does Rock Lee, prior to landing that final blow upon a battered, beaten and frightened Gaara.

I like Neji, but I love Rock Lee. So, I cannot be as resolute in saying Neji will always own Rock Lee. However, I think a portion of Neji's pride is in the fact that he can continuously beat down on Rock Lee. Something like, some people feel empowered by placing others below them and drilling such into their head, verbally or physically. In that case, as Lee improves, I see Neji dramatically doing the same to remain on top.

Here's to hoping Rock Lee surprises him soon, though ..

I like Rock, hes an cool character. His fights are among the best in the series since I have yet to dislike any of his fights so far. Sasuke earns the 2nd best fight scenes imho. Rock has a cool personality being a Mr. Nice-guy and I love his determination to win. He trains so much to reach perfection that even if he gets knocked out cold his unconsiousness manages to keep his pride in tack. This is noticeable in the end of Gaara Vs Rock Fight, almost made my shed a tear.

Rock is among my fave character list but he isn't my fave as Gaara and Neji succeed him in my views. I too think Nejo would still be able to beat Rock in a 1 on 1 fight. I think Neji was just shocked that Rock could unlock some of the gates. Would be a nice suprise if Neji could unlock some himself to make a stronger byakugan. Neji is very smart and I think he would out witt the masterful Rock Lee. Neji is also competant in taijutsu too with his familys famous fighting style. Neji gets the upper hand with defense and with the aid of his white eyes.

It's called Drunken Fist in English. It's a really hard fighting style to use without being drunk. If you try
it sober, you'll get your ass handed to you. The movements all have to do with drinking. The stance Lee
was using was when you are drinking small amounts of sake. There are a bunch of other stances, one of
which you pretend to hold a keg and fight with it.

I dont think its called Suiken. The real term used for it is Zuijiuquan. Which is commonly known as Drunken Boxing or Drunken Fist. Its also called Drunkard's Boxing.

Ita southern style of Wushu (Chinese martial art) that imitates a drunk and its movements through staggering and certain type of fludity in the movements. Its one of the hardest styles.

Back to Rock Lee. How is he in Narutimett Hero 2!? I was never able to download it and load it onto my PS2, so I never got a chance to play it. Is the game that much better than the original? Is Rock Lee presented well with his supers and such in it?

Personally I think he sucks. He's no different from many of the other characters. Actually, I don't like the game that much. It's really cool, but isn't very...I guess, "user friendly". It doesn't pass as a good fighting game imo. The game is awesome for just having the chance to use your favorite characters and tyring out all the specials and so on, but other than that, I don't think it's very good. You have to be really good at the game in order to appreciate the little depth it has. But thtat's beside the point.

About Rock's specials, yes they are presented very nicely. It even has the next Lotus technique (the game writers take a few liberties). They're cool to watch.

yeah, I do think that places him in the genius category. Knowing and doing 'suiken', drunk or not, is either talent or just extreme coincidence he got the moves right. I go for the first.
and alsol, I think more than just determination helped him get so far.

If Rock Lee were to be now categorized or from here on out classified as a Genius, do you think or feel it would take away from his character?

Me, personally, I am a bit hesitant to call him a Genius. Although, just knowing how to so accurately fight using the Drunken Fist style is too iffy and coincidental to not say that Rock Lee's gifted beyond measure, and more so than we initially believed.

Then again, with Sasuke and Neji, our previous genius shinobi .. if Rock Lee were to be placed in that category of being one, he'd definitely be the best one, since the title would not get to his head. There is no air of arrogance, or aristocracy (is this even a word? i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif) about Rock Lee, where he automatically assumes he's better due to his background and title given. He is all about hard work.

Gai said it best. Genius or not, he's definitely one of hard work.

I was about to say that Strider.

He is also "genious" in some sense because of his innate ablities. He can open 5 of the gates, something that not everyone can do. This gives him immeasurable power. And, as mentioned, he is a natural user of Suiken. But even with those, I still wouldn't call him a genious. By himself, his talents are sub-par, and he is easily surpassed by more capable Ninja (this doesn't mean he can't catch up to them though).

I'd have to ammend that statement, Assertn.

I'd say that genious = person who is inherently gifted with any sort of talent (thus giving them a leg-up on their peers).

Lee is inherently "gifted" with the drive to prove himself through back-breaking work. He understands better than anybody what it is to work hard for your dreams - and he pulls through with that.

Not everybody can pull off Suiken. You have to be born with it. Its like a natural talent but you have to wield it.

Even though he cant use any of the other jutsus but his commitment to taijutsu is unheard of. Thats why he can open those gates and not many of others can do that. He is not a genius but he is not far away from it.

Also sometimes it takes more than just brains to get ahead. You need determination and courage which he has plenty of.

His life long ambition is to surpass Neji. I hope to see Kishi elaborating a bit more on that in the near future.

I think he has improved in the last three years. I hope one of the Akatsuki member is taijutsu user so Lee can get an opportunity to fight him.

Ther are two choices either Lee improves his drunken fist or Kishi lets him open more gates.

I don't know how his Drunken Boxing could have improved, since that was more of a fighting talent based on instinct, and subconscious actions. However, I'm sure Lee's able to open up another gate or two. I'd like to think that Lee's trained with the Gates open, and is able to exert himself to a certain level before sustaining any level of discomfort. Similar to Gai, who opened up six gates on a whim, and after eliminating "Kisame," landed all calm and collected with only a single bead of sweat and kept on moving forward.

If Lee could be comfortable fighting with the Gates unlocked, he'd be even more astonishing.

And, Lee v. Neji sometime soon? Yeah .. wishful thinking. They're too busy with other enemies outside and worrying about Sharingan heirs and people with it, and those mysteriously acquiring it to ever do anything coo' like that.

Good point. I was just going off of Kakashi's comment when Lee opened the 4th gate: "Is he a genious after all?" - or whatever translation you prefer. I guess when I really think about it, genious does not = special ability.

Fuck no. You guys are taking the whole genius of hardwork thing to literally. It was something done by kishimoto to show that rock lee can compete against those who are naturally gifted. Through his determination he was able to achieve something greater which is what makes him so inspiring. Spring Time of Youth Forever. I hope we see Rock Lee perfect his drunken master style. In order for him to improve he needs to get more liqoured up. Lets see him down a few forties before he gets unleshed. I really do hope that in the next manga arc Kishimoto comes up with some excuse to bring back druken boxer lee. Hell I don't see why the fillers don't come up with some kind of excuse to use drunken boxer lee. Man that would kick so much ass to see him again plus the animators would have a ball bringing him to life. Damn you fillers give us more drunken boxer lee!

I was taught the definition of genius is to exceptionally excel the normal. In my opinion he did.
