Now that is how an anime should start. Great opening, along with a great ending to go add to the greatness of the episode. Alestors flame haze(don't think name was given) seems like such a cool character. Her reaction to him asking for an ambulance was halarious.

Episode 3 was pretty good...

It seems that this mistes is capable of "regenerating" his Torch, so that means that Sakai will get to see how everything unfolds...

It would be cool if at some point Shana would just say fuck it, and get his treasure...


Edit: I also noticed that this release had quite a few missing translations, and also some wierd edited sentences... even more than before... I hope this group is not getting lazy on us... Granted they weren't spectacular before, but they were doing quite a decent job...

I'm digging this series so far. Great 1st episode; the narration was pretty awesome in that episode (something of my liking). Even though confusing, the entire torches-puppet-human-mistes thing was great.

As far 2nd and 3rd episodes go, they were alright. They explain me "enough" of the main theme to keep me on the screen: about themselves, the torches and world they live. I also liked that "torch regeneration" stuff. Keep watching.

Thoughts after ep 1...

JC Staff almost always stands for quality and this is no exception. The drawing style is almost too cute for my tastes though, and "badass female lead who complains about people being noisy" & "whiny stupid guy who gets in the way of said woman's attacks on their enemies" aren't my favorite types of characters. But the story feels pretty intriguating so I'll stick with it.

Also, the opening and ending are both freakin' amazing. Especially the ending. MP3S NOW!!

Man, what a fucking bitch Shana is. I want to kill her.
Great episode otherwise. I really like the whole "I'm already dead" theme, and it was so sad when Hirai disappeared, Ike couldn't hear her speak and so on. Great and touching.

But again, I hate Shana. I want her to suffer, stupid whore. With all her "you're just a torch" bullshit and inconsiderate nature.
And the way she says "shut up" pisses me off too, I mean for crying out loud he just got his damn world turned upside down, is it so strange that he has questions?

And about ep 3, it was hilarious when Shana made all those teachers run out and scream random sounds. So far there are no characters I really like in this show, so hopefully the ones that are coming along now will be more interesting.

Episode 4 was pretty good, favorite episode thus far... We learned alot about the Guze world and the nature of Flame Hazes...

Ep 4...

Man, this show really isn't very intriguating at all. I liked ep 2 and I still find the concept of dead people replaced by "living fires" to be pretty cool, but it really doesn't help when the series is so hopefully drowned in cliches otherwise. Pretty generic anime comedy, the obligatory girl-undresses-and-boy-can't-peep-even-though-he-doesn't-give-a-shit followed by boy-gets-clumsy-accidently-peeks-and-gets-hit-by-bitch. *Yawn*. And seriously, what crack are the japanese smoking when they come up with move names in series like this one? "Solomon Grundy"... wtf? lol

But the worst part is that the characters are so extremely bland. Shana is the most annoying bitch of a main character I've seen since Sakura, and that doesn't say little. Ungrateful, irritating, and downright killable. And then there's this new spoiled whore with enormous boobs who complains over a perfectly nice hotel room. Following this is a damn psycho who cuddles with a fucking doll. God.

I hope the series returns to the concept and becomes interesting again, before it's lost in the world of random cliches and weird expressions which you can't keep track of. i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

I really liked this episode... mainly because it really shows how this battle seems as a free for all... Hazes are fighting Hazes, Hazes are fighting Tomoragas, and Tomoragas are fighting each other...

I really liked how the episode ended, looking forward to episode 6...

Another great ep and it's nice to see another group is doing Shana, shows its popularity. Shana beng able to use her flame power surprised me since I thought it was said that she couldn't use it. Even the preview for next ep was great. Does anybody get the thought that Sakai's dad is a torch? Reason he's away and seems to never be mentioned. Maybe his mom is forgetting about him.

Marjorie vs. Shana, Round 2: Marjorie does have that psychotic craze, but I feel Yuji's going to fuel Shana to a victory.

I'm also beginning to wonder what exactly Eita and his buddies role (the two HS slackers, both seem to have a thing for Marjorie) is going to be in this show. I really think Eita is a pretty cool character and hope he's just not regulated to background side character... Hopefully he'll get powers of his own, even if he has to be possessed by some Tomogure or something like that...

Episode 7 when shes in the bath is quite funny. She looks so cute..... when she smiles and eats melon pan. Someone above mentioned the blond girl looks like winry in FMA. I dont see anything alike other than the hair.

Another great episode, this further proved why Shana>Black Cat>Blood+ and yet Shana didn't get her own forum. Anyways Shana getting wings was unexpected but very cool, Marjorie sticking around after this ep was awesome since I like her and didn't want her to die off. The silver tomogara seems interesting and powerful since the strongest wizard didn't even wanna say his name. The preview for next ep was funny with the serious voice for what looks like a comedy ep.

Wow, I started watching this series on a whim and it seems really cool. I'm glad as hell they dropped the Yuji, your going to vanish, and you suck angle. With the nifty ring and the infinite existance he's got great potential for growth as well as use as a plot device (there's no way he won't get kidnapped eventually). And the synergy with Shana is really refreshing, it's nice to see people fight better together for once.

Good comic relief from Marc and Marjorie, and to a lesser extent the loser kids who hang with MD. Next ep looks pretty funny, and I love how the preview had the ominous music while they talk about swimsuits and show footage of cutesy girls screwing asround in the pool. Good series, I think Aeon is right, this show deserves a forum of its own.

Yujis gonna make a nice couple with Shana. Saw the embracing in the opening? well, something like thats gonna happen. It all ready started. A fighting pair, looking forward to see the Yujis trainning. Nice preview, I agree. Though there doesnt seem to be any action going.

Has anyone heard about how many episodes are there in total? Hope its 26 or more. This really deserves to be looooong but I dont think it will be.

I really don't see what's so great about Black Cat, the characters aren't that interesting aside from Saya and the con artist girl and neither of them are around atm. Sven acts like an idiot and it isn't even a funny idiot way of acting. Oh well maybe it's just me since I find Bleach to be meh. Anyways to say something about Shana, even if the silver turns out to be the final enemy I hope Shana isn't the one that gets to kill him, that honor should go to Marjorie. Good anime so far i like the animation style and the plot line is interesting. As to Yuji being the silver i highly doubt it. I hope Marjorie is the one to kill him as well. If it put her through so much and caused her to hate not only it but others of its kind that much she definatly deserves to be the one.

Episode 8 was pretty damn cool. The battles in this show are interesting, not quite what I'm used to, but I enjoy. The wings were a little cheesy, but she wears them well. I am just wondering, can anyone use the Azur Spells that Yuji used, or is it just him?

I know you need to move within the Fuzetsu to be able to do all that, but how exactly does a thing like Yuji utilize the Ring of Azur? Is it just the Mistes? Or is it something about Yuji?... Either way, good episode, and I really want to see Marjorey's past fleshed out in a For Real flashback, none of this half-image, impressionist stuff....

Hey. It was pretty clear what that guy wanted to say. If you cant even guess that then you should be quitting this anime. He was gonna say that yuji was going to become really important to Shana and that they might even become a fighting team. That was damn clear and it has nothing to do with that silver guy. Yuji is just a torch, I think all this episodes made it very clear ( have you payed attention to the episodes at all?) and he had been killed. Well yeah... Dad had an extra one in the garage so I've replaced it now.. I also found out that the one I had was very bad(sucky) so that might be a reason.. In the translator's note, it says Yuji's mom mistook "Alastor" for "Arasu Toru" because Alastor is not a Japanese word. Apparently with the Japanese accent, Alastor sounds the same as Arasu Toru.

Damn, the two Tomogara twins (Tiriel is the girl's name, but what's the brother's name? She always just calls him 'Onii-sama') get FREAKY, in public, and, goddamn they're just so obviously related (that is, they look related)...

That gigantic Fuzetsu is bizarre. I really want an explanation. Seriously, it took the first Tomogara (the Doll guy), FOREVER to set up a city-wide Fuzetsu. These three just stroll into town and set-up a gigantic Fuzetsu that regenerates their powers and fuels them as well. Shana takes a shot at 'the core' of the Cradle Fuzetsu (although, i have to imagine that that giant flower thing wasn't really the core, as it got smacked by a huge attack and nothing happened).

The Aizen twins are insanely powerful, and creepy... I like how they're very different from one another. Where in god's name did Tiriel get that Cradle thing anyhow?

oh, and I'm glad they're setting Ike up with Yoshida. That just had to be the way it was settled.

Marjorie (or someone) had put up a barrier around them both, you see it @ 14:00-14:15 in the Eclipse sub. And I bet that sword is just left over from the rich kids parents buying shit.

As for the uber flower, I have no idea...though that was a smart (and cheap) move trapping the thing.

Friagne the Hunter (doll guy) looked pretty dead to me, last time he fought. Shana caught him pretty good, and I was pretty sure he was disintegrating and mumbling to his little doll while falling off a roof... Yuji got his ring, and it really felt like Friagne was dead.

Ah, I noticed the spell going around Eita and Chagusa, but they didn't say when or why Margery cast it on them, so it sorta caught me off guard. That, and Eita having a sword suggested he'd been getting some training from her. I hope so, as I like him the best out of the cast.

seriously. that was the biggest 'wtf?' moment I've ever seen in Shana.
How come a friggin skeleton holds the key to the concealment of a Tendou-kyu? I can imagine his reaction to the spaghetti sauce stirred (cooking pun intended) up bad memories (where is his brain? how does he have memories?), but his reaction was so ridiculously big. Hasn't he ever seen blood before from beating Shana?

And what the hell does adding ~de arimasu to the end of every sentence mean? Are they going for some kind of Kenshin knockoff thing here? 'oro' was fine. Then you get Naruto saying 'dattebayo' all the time, now this Willmeinia chick keeps saying 'de arimsu'. Adding random shit to the end of sentences DOES NOT make a character special!

Thousand Martial Leader reminds me of Medieval Lego people, I remember taking out their heads and hands and they would look just like Thousand did.

And Vine, without those silly eyes, is very reminescent of Vile from the Mega Man X series, don't ya think?

I am glad they're finally fleshing out Shana's past. Too bad the "day you became a Flame Haze" hinges on a plot twist as ludicrous as a skeleton's overreaction to pasta condiment....

The song for the new ending is pretty good. It starts off great but after the part in English it starts sounding like all the other sappy J-pop songs... The new ending seems to show alot of Wilhelmina and that Orange cloaked, as of yet unidentified, kid with purple eyes (he/she also has a gigantic weapon wrapped in bandages, probably some kind of massive sword). After this flashback arc the Orange cloaked one will probably enter the scene.

Decent episode. I was wondering what that Ikko things deal was. Interesting, an enemy that is a Mistes, not a Tomogara or a Rinne. He looks strong, but gosh is he awfully slow.

I'll bet dollars to donuts that Wilhelmina bites the big one next episode. She'll probably beat Thousand Marshal Orgine, but I have a feeling she'll save Shana from Ikko and lose her life in the process. I'm glad Vino died. Took them long enough to kill off that little weakling.

I still am at a loss as to what the hell Shiro is, how he got that way and all of that. What exactly was Shana's secret that she told Alastor? Did I just miss it or did she not say it? If she did say it then it really wasn't anything special, as her whole dialogue with Alastor really only revealed stuff about him, not her...

actually... i really liked this episode. Also, I think that it wasn't the ketchup that made Shiro go crazy but the fact that he was hit (this was kind of the final Exam for shana). the Mistes is neat... so there are strong Mistes then, will it get destroyed? hope we see others like this, or maybe Yuji will become like that haha!

The new ending song is nice, not the same level of greatness of the origional but it makes up for it by using artwork of Marjorie. Despite Alastors special technique killing the his flame haze I kinda wanna see it just to see his true form but then again I don't want Shana to die. Wilhelmina's madusa mask was pretty cool. Also is Ikko's sword "Nietono no Shana"?

I don't know why they are including that in the translation... As far as I know, "desu" is a short form of "de arimasu" which is used when someone is being polite, just as "de gozaimasu" [Many ninjas and samurais use this] (which I think is even more polite")

As far as I know, "de aru" is the closest thing to a "to be" verb in Japanese, with "desu" just being a short form of all of these.

Just think of it as a portrayal of politeness, don't think of the actual meaning of the word.

What's this about the host dying to summon Alastor, what does 'summoning' him even mean? And what actually happened to the old Flame Haired Red Eyed Hunter, do we know? This flashback secquence was greatl, it answered good questions to answer and was cool, I'm so used to transitional episodes being recaps of old footage and this was a really great change... and also I think that there's a tie in with the upcoming arc, that weird lady that said "somone has died" as Shana was fighting the Tenmoku Ikko was the one sitting across from the glasses guy when he was talking about the Rejii Maigo in ep 14.

Last episode Alastor revealed that his Flame Haze's are given a special spell that summons him from the Guze world. When that spell is activated it breaks his container. The old flame haired hunter was killed after using the spell to stop Shiro. I'm also looking forward to the girl with 3 eyes finally showing herself.

I really liked this episode, a good way of wrapping up the flashback.

Tenmoku Ikko was one badass mofo. But, because he kept fighting Tomogara AND Flame Haze did that mean that he didn't care what side the eventual wielder of Nietono no Shana would be on? If a Tomogara had defeated him... A mercenary swagger indeed. I got the impression he was seeking a powerful wielder, no matter if they were good or evil.

Shiro's backstory was most enjoyable. A Tomogara falls in love with a Flame Haze, now that is an example of Fate being a bitch. Not eating humans for all those years must have been hell...

The woman who said "Oh, someone died." Seems to be the Queen Beryl figure of Masque Balle, the organization of Tomogara. I recall Vine-Eyes (motorcycle Tomogara) saying that she gave him that key some time ago. Looks like it was just an energy bomb that would go off when the host died, and also notify her of the death. And I'm sure when this person comes it'll be to get Yuji.

Next episode: Khamsin, a tuner, comes to town. That thing he/she carries is so damn big. Also, that girl who has a crush on Yuji finds out about Guze, or something along those lines. Should be interesting. Now we have 4 kids from Yuji's class who know about Guze. Wonder when Ike will get clued in...

EDIT again: Ok, ok. So I just watched "episode 1" of Shakugan no ShanaTAN. It's actually only about three minutes long, and it is pretty hilarious in parts. I love that they got the voice actors and animators to actually make fun of their own show. I always thought SHANA was a show that really played into all the anime stereotypes and vices, to the point of almost being campy. I won't spoil the premise of ShanaTAN for you though.
