I don't know what you guys think, but I think that it would be good if we can find some manga that is not currently being discussed here, and make like a pact that all of us manga readers will start reading it so that we can have some good discussions on it...

The way I see it, we can discuss for a couple of days some suggestions on which would be a good manga for all of us to read...

Then, after those couple of days have passed (maybe like a week), I can edit this first post and make a poll with all, if not most of the mangas that have been suggested. Then, the manga with the most votes (after maybe another week) is the one we as a community chose to read and will read from then on so we can all discuss it...

What do you guys think?

EDIT:

Round One Winner: Air Gear
Round Two Winners: Priest and Jiraishin
Round Three Winners: Ares and Tokko

Poll #4 Begins Now

Here are the manga choices:

Yeah, good idea, there isn't much discussion here with manga, which I'm really annoyed about.

Well, I goto go, but I will think of a series that should be considered.

GhostKaGe

as a manga reader id be up for this the lack of good manga discussion around here is a bit annoying

Munsu
Thu, 09-15-2005, 05:02 AM
That's good, how about some recomendations?

I was thinking about a manga that doesn't have an anime counter-part at the moment... and a manga that no one is really reading at the moment...

Some manga that you guys read the description, and decided it was worth a shot...

Hakeem_21
Thu, 09-15-2005, 06:28 AM
Nice idea bud.

I recommend Shamo,Parasyte,Dangu,Change Guy

Ryllharu
Thu, 09-15-2005, 06:31 AM
Yeah.

I've been reading Air Gear and Addicted to Curry, or at least those are the only ones that don't have an anime and haven't been discussed somewhere else.

Munsu
Thu, 09-15-2005, 09:21 AM
Air Gear, I just caught up today... been reading it all night...

As of late I've been reading 666 Satan (read it 3 nights ago, up to the recent chapter)

And I finished yesterday Togari, it was a pretty good manga... but the ending sucks.. it better have a sequel or something...

Honoko
Thu, 09-15-2005, 09:24 AM
the only non-anime manga i've been reading regularly is Team Medical Dragon scanslated by NexGear. it's pretty good so far.... if you happen to like reading about "real world" hospital politics and the various nuances to surgery =P

Munsu
Thu, 09-15-2005, 10:07 AM
This are some of which I have been thinking:

666 Satan
Gekkoh
Otogi Matsuri
Freesia
Leviathan
Jiraishin
Tokko
Onikiri Jyuzo
Air Gear
Togari

Also, I think we should do this poll, every two weeks or so, since one can usually read a manga series fairly fast...

Of the series I've mentioned, I've only read 666 Satan, Togari, and Air Gear... all others are new to me, but they've caught my atention...

Hakeem_21
Thu, 09-15-2005, 03:42 PM
I have Togari but havent read it yet.

I will look up the others that interest me.

I'm in on whatever you guys choose, you seem to have good taste in manga.

Air Gear is a good manga, all about skating if you guys wanted to know, dont forget about Deatnote, its still going and a very good manga (Highly Recommend). Also Chaosic Rune, its kinda like Yu-gioh (or whatever) But 10x better.

relevasius
Fri, 09-16-2005, 01:12 AM
Tokko is really good. I just downloaded Dangu the other day, but i haven't started to read it yet. Freesia and Leviathan are pretty cool too, although Leviathan get's pretty wierd. What about MPD Psycho?

Munsu
Fri, 09-16-2005, 04:32 AM
I think I'm gonna start the poll now, we've already gotten a couple of suggestions...

Lets see how the voting go... if the votes are too dispersed, then we'll get the top choices and do a secondary poll...

I hope this works out,

I started reading Freesia last night... I read all five volumes, but the manga is really messed up lol

Hakeem_21
Fri, 09-16-2005, 04:46 AM
Yeah let the poll start.

This is cool its just like a book club, buts its manga i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Also add Priest to the polls its very good. The best manhwa out there.

Munsu
Fri, 09-16-2005, 05:03 AM
OK, I added Priest, that's the last suggestion I'll add to this poll...

All others suggestions will have to wait till we do this again, but still make the suggestion, I'll make sure to use it later on

Remember to give a reason behind your pick

Ryllharu
Fri, 09-16-2005, 05:49 AM
Well, even though there really aren't that many chapters scanned, I voted for Air Gear without a second thought. I'm obessessed with that series. Same style as TenTen (Oh! Great does amazing work), but with humor better dispersed into the series so far (TenTen just got series too often and for too long, after they did put in funny parts again, it seemed so out of place).

I'm also convinced that Ringo is the hottest girl in all of mangadom.

I read Tokko too, and love that, but you can only vote once and Air Gear is just more enjoyable overall.

GhostKaGe
Fri, 09-16-2005, 06:16 AM
was going to vote for air gear but clicked the wrong button i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif and wound up voting for shamo

Munsu

What about Vagabond is a fictional story of legendary samurai Miyamoto Mushashi, what I like about it is that it doesnt have any of that supermove kind of stuff like other manga

I'm always up for great manga.
Air Gear

Munsu
Fri, 09-16-2005, 10:34 AM
Humm, it seems like most of you want Air Gear, I'm leaning there myself...

Right now I'm debating over Tokko, Air Gear, 666 Satan, Jiraishin, or Priest... But I'll think i'll end up voting for Air Gear...

As for Vagabond, I'll keep it in mind for next round... I read it myself (got to catch up though), and it's very good...

Shinda
Fri, 09-16-2005, 01:10 PM
I'm going with Air Gear

I was doubting between Air gear and 666 satan, but I have heard many negative reviews about 666 satan
so I went with AG, seems a more nicer manga anyway

XanBcoo
Sat, 09-17-2005, 12:35 AM
I voted for Air Gear b/c of what you guys said. Read the description, sounds enjoyable.

Also, because 666 Satan really sucks.

Munsu
Sat, 09-17-2005, 02:42 AM
I think it's pretty obvious that we want to read Air Gear, so I'm just gonna take the liberty of choosing Air Gear as our first winner... I'm gonna modify the poll, so we can start voting again for the second manga we'll read, though this second poll should last a bit longer than a day of voting, depending on how fast we as a community read Air Gear

Edit: Let me know if the people that already voted in the first poll have problems voting in this second poll

relevasius
Sat, 09-17-2005, 05:49 AM
Damn, I completely missed round 1 of voting, but I'm the first for round 2, hurray. I was stuck between Dangu and Priest, but I ended up going for priest. Some of the artwork on the covers is just amazing, and it seems like the mangaka can produce a solid story. Just looking at the preview pages I got a hellsing/gungrave type feel, both which I enjoyed so, yeah, that get's my vote. But for now I read Air Gear.

Bud - Haha, I should have mentioned how Freesia get's pretty wacky too. All those blurred out scenes (if you've read you know what i'm talking about) are just... well for me, they were hilarious, but some people might get offended by that stuff .

Hakeem_21
Sat, 09-17-2005, 05:58 AM
I voted Togari since i have read most of the other mangas.....

When do we start reading the manga that won the first poll? When the second round is over? Or now?

nest:

Thats why Vagabond is my fav samura manga with Lone Wolf and Cub cuase its very realistic fights and story. No super powers ala Kenshin etc.

Munsu
Sat, 09-17-2005, 06:13 AM
Start reading now... thread is already created i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif

I think I'm gonna vote for either Priest or Tokko, haven't decided yet...

Hakeem_21
Sat, 09-17-2005, 06:23 AM
Wouldnt be easier if we focused one manga then we are finished with it we read the next manga.

Just like a book club.

Now people will talk about two mangas at once and the thread will be alittle wild. Someone talking about Air Gear and the next talking about another manga.

Munsu
Sat, 09-17-2005, 06:31 AM
we are not discussing the mangas in this thread...

Air Gear will be discussed here:

if we're voting for manga #2, i'd say it's a toss up between jiraishin and chaosic rune.....

btw, there seems to be some interest in the weird, psychological disturbing manga. i particularly didn't enjoy this one (b/c of its disturbing gory detail) but you guys may find interest: Homunculus. The storyline is REALLY interesting and the mindfucking that goes on in there is crazy =P

Munsu
Sun, 09-18-2005, 01:14 AM
lol, yeah i've heard about that and it's on my to read list...

And yeah it seems that most of the ones recommended are "disturbing" types of manga... I really thought there would be more of you that and enjoyed shounen types, hence why I recommended 666 Satan, but it seems that it is not of the interest of this forum...

relevasius
Sun, 09-18-2005, 05:15 AM
Well what is there to really "discuss" about shounen manga, not that I don't read it myself, but there's rarely anything really thought provoking. It just turns into the drivel you see in the naruto posts. I'd rather talk about something that has content and is open to interpretation, deeper than the weeks new ultimate move. And Homonculus, yikes...well it's fine till the endish of vol 5 and beginning of vol 6, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Other than that it's a great story.

GhostKaGe

Hakeem_21
Sun, 09-18-2005, 04:48 PM
Bud i like shonen alot but i dont know of many other than OP,Naruto,HXH,FMA. I tried 666 Satan but didnt like it,if you know of any good shonen recomened it so we can know about it.

Right now im into trying diffrent genres mode so im more into sick, diffrent, comdey, ecchi etc.

Im gonna definetly vote for Humancolous or Eden in round 3.

Munsu
Sun, 09-18-2005, 04:50 PM
I'm actually gonna change my vote to Priest... read the first 2 volumes of Jiraishin, even though I liked it, it had an episodic type of manga feel to it, and it's not the type of manga I want to read right now...

Hakeem_21
Sun, 09-18-2005, 05:01 PM
Ooo i love espisodic mangas thanks to Lone Wolf and Cub.

Hehe Priest is one of few mangas i collect so i dont have to read it to discouss it i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

I just read vol 6,7.

But i can assure you guys if you like demons, bibicle quotes, cool hero etc you will love it. Its as good as i wish Hellsing should be.

Munsu
Wed, 09-21-2005, 06:10 AM
Humm, Jiraishin just took the lead...

Anyways, I'm recommending a new manga (manhwa) for the next round which i just started reading: Ares

Hakeem_21
Wed, 09-21-2005, 06:59 PM
I have just finished read Priest vol 9 and i have to say you guys are missing out one of the best anti heroes and the coolast art i have seen in a manga or a manhwa.

Munsu
Wed, 09-21-2005, 07:09 PM
I'm thinking of simply choosing two winners this round, with Jiraishin and Priest, we have too many manga and few voters to really pick a one sided winner... for next round im thinking of dividing the the choices into 2 polls and simply choose two winners each round...

Hakeem_21
Wed, 09-21-2005, 09:24 PM
Hehe this way it will become tighter to be in top two for the mangas since there arent many who vote.

I think the third round should start now, this poll has been going on long,it wont get anymore votes.

Munsu
Thu, 09-22-2005, 10:21 AM
Alright, third poll is in effect... make sure you vote in the first poll before voting in the second poll, if you don't your vote will be fucked up, and it will stay that way...

Anyways, I voted for Ares and Tokko

Ares, I started reading it the other day and i'll say it's pretty good... art is not the best, but the sword fighting is awesome... character designs look like those from Samurai Champloo, and as the fighting goes... imagine 4 Mugens fighting around...

Tokko, this one is awesome also from the mangaka of GTO... great action and blood, plus hot girls... can't go wrong here...

Edit:

Jiraishing and Priest seem to be pretty long, and they are two mangas, so I was thinking of leaving this poll up a bit longer than the other two.

Hakeem_21
Thu, 09-22-2005, 11:09 AM

I voted Tokko since im a big fan of GTO even though i know nothing about whats its about.

I agree on the leaving the poll open for a (long) while,,
two pretty long mangas, it's gonna take some time

Munsu
Thu, 09-22-2005, 01:35 PM
yeah, and if start deciding quickly for winners, the whole purpose of what we are doing will be flushed down the toilet, so this poll should at least last a week

Hakeem_21
Thu, 09-22-2005, 06:22 PM
This project or manga club is great for me cause i had lost my urge of reading cuz i couldnt find any new good ones. But thanks to this im reading AirGear,Jiraishin.

Honoko
Thu, 09-22-2005, 06:53 PM
i like this idea alot but i have no self-control. once i start reading something, i feel obligated to plow thru all the scanslations available as fast as i can (as evidenced w/ the Project ARMS manga-- read all 7 volumes available). this leaves me very little room to do, say, HOMEWORK =P it's okay though. you guys are helping me find good stuff to read i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Hakeem_21
Thu, 09-22-2005, 07:28 PM
I feel the same way once i start a manga i read it all even if i dont like it anymore just like Naruto nowaday...

Ryllharu
Thu, 09-22-2005, 09:05 PM
I'll go for Tokko, even though its released somewhat slowly by animewaves (due largely to their shear number of projects, most of which I read anyway), but its a good thriller/action series. They did finish the "first part" so we'll have a decent amount to talk about. I can't wait to see what happens with the squad and how they will resolve the issue of the rest of the residents (only a spoiler if you've been reading it).

I'll toss in Addicted to Curry because its a great cooking manga with TONS of real recipies in it. Lots of ecchi at times and a good amount of humor. Not as over the top as Yakitake, but one of my favorites. Before Ringo took over as the hottest girl in manga, Yui was my favorite. (The panels where she wears a sari are great). She's got a natural looking attractiveness that you don't see too often in manga/anime anymore (tendency to draw women very with very "ample" assets). Not that I'm complaining or anything, but the difference makes Yui more attractive.

Yeah same here, I read all of Priest in a night, and Berserk was like a 3 day sleepless event, haha, but this time around i'm gonna vote for Tokko and MPD Psycho. I've read them both, but I think a lot of people would like them, and i'd like to kick some ideas around especially about MPD Psycho.

ah shit, those are both in the same poll haha, so I went with ares and tokko instead.

it seems like Tokko is a favorite this time

Hakeem_21
Thu, 09-22-2005, 09:49 PM
I votesd for Addicted to Curry just cause the name sounded like a comedy manga.

Now i see its similer to one of my fav anime Yakitate Japan, which is great.

Honoko
Thu, 09-22-2005, 10:13 PM
i read a few chapters of Addicted to Curry and it's just not the same as Yakitate.... plus for some reason, reading about how bread is made is a lot more interesting than learning how to combine dozens of ingredients to make curry. i don't know why i don't have a big an interest for it right now. maybe when yakitate's over i'll take a look at that again. perhaps i have a limit for cooking manga i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif

Munsu
Mon, 09-26-2005, 02:42 PM
I'm thinking of three scenarios right now....

1. After we've norrowed down the list enough, to allow mangas that already have been discussed or are being discussed into the voting (for example Death Note, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Blade of the Immortal) [This includes mangas that have an anime equivalent, for example MAR, GANTZ, Black Cat]

2. Or, after this round is over, simply add a 3rd poll in the voting to choose one of these mangas.

3. Or leave it as we've been doing now...

Please let me know what you think...

Ryllharu
Mon, 09-26-2005, 03:18 PM
I'd really like to see scenario 1. We've got a lot of good series going now, but as most of you know, manga chapters aren't necessarily bursting with material to talk about, nor do they come out on that regular a basis. I'd like to see more dicussion on some of the older series that sorta got forgotten about (namely, most of the ones you mentioned). They're longer (or at least older and more chapters of them are out) so we'd hopefully have more to talk about.

Munsu
Mon, 09-26-2005, 06:09 PM
Sorry let me clarify in case it wast clear.... scenario 2 is using the mangas from scenario 1...

Do ypu still feel the same way?

Hakeem_21
